Enjoyed learning about the buildings and the area. Vicky was great—personable and knowledgeable. She had some great stories that added context to what we would have otherwise walked by.
Becca was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed her information and history and details about the homes and their owners.
We've been on many walking tours including many led by this operator and as usual the logistics were easy, the timing and coverage were as billed, and the price was definitely right. This review is to acknowledge that the Embassy Row tour was exceptional in terms of the guide's knowledge of the relevant history (and current events). Becca will throw a LOT of information at you so bring a notebook!
Meet at DuPont Circle and stroll through beautiful area of DC. Walk by large mansions along detached walks with a canopy of trees. Learn about some of the people who built the mansions and what happened to them. We heard about a famous diamond and two different car bombings. You learn about all the presidents that lived in the neighborhood before and after their terms. We got to see the Dupont Circle fountain running. We also got to walk down the DC Spanish Steps. A beautiful way to enjoy a nice day.
We loved it! Vicky was very fun and knowledgable. We learned stuff about the city we had never known, and she gave great recommendations for lunch after.
Vicky gave us a great overview of Dupont Circle and specifics on various embassies - fun stories with a terrific accent.
Today we took the Embassy Row tour with Vicky. I would highly recommend this tour. First, Vicky was an exceptional tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and provided a wealth of information about Embassy Row and the Mansions in the Dupont Circle area. It was clear she really enjoyed the opportunity of sharing this historical information with the group. Second, the time length of the tour was ideal and the amount of walking was not strenuous at all. Finally, the communication from the company and tour guide prior to the tour was excellent. There were clear and concise instructions regarding the meeting place. I have been coming to DC for years but this was the first time venturing north of the National Mall area to explore. It was time well spent. I look forward to future tours with this company.
I recently took the “Embassy Row: Architecture, Mansions, and International Intrigue” tour and came away thoroughly impressed. The guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and engaging, offering a wealth of interesting historical and architectural insights throughout the walk. It was clear the guide was a local, which added an extra layer of depth—along with great recommendations for things to do after the tour. The pace was relaxed and the route was easy to walk, making it enjoyable and accessible for all ages. The neighborhood itself is beautiful, filled with stunning mansions and fascinating stories tied to international diplomacy and Washington’s past. As a fun bonus, we even crossed paths with a DC mayoral candidate during the tour, which added a unique and memorable moment. Overall, this was a well-organized, informative, and enjoyable experience. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore one of Washington’s most elegant and intriguing areas.
This was a great tour filled with the type of details that go beyond the structures of the actual embassies. Viki, our tour guide, has an incredible knowledge base and you can tell she enjoys sharing her love of the content with her group. It was a small group which was perfect. We had a lot of opportunity for questions. Viki also has a friendly demeanor which made the tour that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend. There is so much more to Embassy Row beyond the bricks and mortar!
This tour and tour guide (Becca) were exceptional. Highly recommend if you are interested in beautiful mansions from the Gilded Age that have now been purchased by countries to house their diplomatic missions to the US. Lots of scandalous stories, too! Loved every minute of the tour.
He was excellent with a lot of knowledge about subjects that are not normally covered on tours. He was also helpful with transportation directions.
Tyler was a excellent tour guide who provided great stories and background information, while setting a nice pace for exploring Washington's Embassy Row. He very comfortably answered our questions. Great tour!
This tour is ok if you know nothing about history. But do not expect to learn accurately. The guide made many errors in "facts". Route was not unique. Do a walk on your own with Google as you go.
It was informative. And we learned some fun facts. Did not care for the tour ending in the middle of a neighborhood. To make it easier for the out of town people taking the tour, Would recommend circling around to end the tour back at the meeting place where it began.
Long but easy walk. Lots of embassies in homes with historical significance. Guide was very informative.
It was incredible. Mark is so knowledgeable and obviously has a passion for history and love of country and people in general. And he was very friendly. It was a top-notch experience !!
Easy walk, lots of shade. Informative guide. Mark was personable and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the history and tidbits he shared. We will definitely book again. Thank you so much.
Tour guide well informed and covered many of the embassies as well as providing the history of DuPont Circle.
I've been to DC too many times to count so it was nice to find an option to see a part of the city I don't normally go to. I knew there were embassies in DC but did not know any of the history or stories or how this international relationship really works. Eli was a great guide to wander around with on this tour.
Becca was the perfect tour guide: personable, prepared, interesting, informative. Embassy Row itself was full of beautiful gilded age mansions with interesting histories and architecture. Most of the buildings we saw on the tour are now embassies, which added another layer of interest to their stories. One of the best tours I’ve ever done! (Also liked the very small group size.)
Eli was an excellent tour guide. I would do more tours in the future. I love learning the history of the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour yesterday with Becca. She was full of knowledge and energy. And my husband who is hard of hearing heard her clearly. She was articulate and fun. We would definitely do another tour with her any day...
Dan was an amazing storyteller who kept us engaged the entire time. Highly recommend - more info than I thought there would be.
It was a great tour offers explored through Washington, D.C.'s historic district, With insightful commentary of John guide, it was an amazing experience.
Dan was a great tour guide. He gave us a thorough history of embassy/millionaires row that included little known facts and stories. And he presented the history and stories with a lot of enthusiasm.
Embassy Row Walking Tour offers a delightful stroll through Washington, D.C.'s historic district, showcasing the architectural grandeur and diplomatic charm of the city. With insightful commentary, it's an enriching experience that unveils the stories behind the impressive embassies lining this iconic avenue
We got to see the heart of Washington's dupont circle on this tour. Embassies are all old mansions which we enjoyed seeing snd learning about mainly from the outside. The stories are just amazing of all the wealthy families.
An amazing, thorough tour that brought the Embassy Row neighborhood to life! Our guide was engaging, knowledgeable, and we had such a great time. The walk was beautiful, and plan to take more DC By Foot tours soon!
Wonderful walk in the diplomatic neighbourhood full of stories that are so unique to Washington DC. Seeing the embaissies and their styles was amazing.
We had a wonderful time and learned an incredible amount about the history and impact of embassies in the US. Looking at the historic homes and residences was fascinating. Our tour guide was knowledgable, engaging and customized our two hour walk around our interests. 10/10 would highly recommend if your interests align with history, foreign governments and/or architecture.
I loved the tour with Eli! He added a great amount of local perspective to this historic area. It was very enjoyable to learn about the "original mean girls" when the houses were owned by wealthy families, but I mostly appreciated learning about the embassies today. I try to take tours wherever I go and enjoy finding out the truth behind many common assumptions. For example, Eli did a great job explaining the grey area about whether embassy is foreign soil or not. It was a small group of guests and the tour ended with restaurant recommends for dinner!
Eli was a great tour guide. Passionate about the subject and had many good stories to tell. We enjoyed the tour.
Eli, our guide, looked scruffy and disheveled, in shorts and flip flops and carrying a dirty back pack. He seemed bored and not engaged in the tour and offered little information other than the bare minimum about houses in the tour but nothing extra. No “scandals” or exciting embassy tales the tour brochure promised. Certainly not worth $90 plus tip for the two of us. We were very disappointed.
Terrific walking tour in a beautiful Washington DC neighborhood! Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and informative about all the interesting history and details. The small group format made it very easy to participate. Taking this tour really added a lot to our visit to Washington. Well worth it and highly recommended!
The tour was an excellent experience with a knowledgeable guide who shared insightful information about the history and culture of the destination. We were able to see iconic landmarks and gained a deeper understanding of the local area. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the location.
