The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, located by the Tidal Basin, features stunning neoclassical architecture inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. Inside, a towering statue of Jefferson stands amidst excerpts from his writings, encapsulating his impact on American democracy. The tranquil surroundings, especially during cherry blossom season, provide a perfect backdrop for contemplation of Jefferson's ideals of liberty and freedom.
The White House offers a unique opportunity for stunning exterior photographs of one of the world's most recognizable buildings. The grandeur of its neoclassical architecture, manicured lawns, and vibrant gardens makes it a perfect photo backdrop. Explore various angles from the Ellipse to capture the essence of this historic residence.
The World War II Memorial serves as a powerful tribute to the sacrifices of millions during the conflict. Its 56 pillars symbolize the U.S. states and territories involved in the war, set against the Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial. With cascading fountains and striking mosaics, the memorial invites reflection on the courage and resilience of those who served.
Ford's Theatre features a striking red brick façade and ornate columns that reflect 19th-century grandeur. The marquee and bustling street outside create a lively atmosphere for capturing memorable photos.
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, located on the Tidal Basin, unfolds in four sections, representing Roosevelt's four terms. The outdoor space features sculptures and inscriptions that capture his spirit and perseverance during challenging times. Serene waterfalls enhance the reflective atmosphere as visitors contemplate the enduring strength of democracy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial honors the legacy of the civil rights leader with a remarkable 30-foot statue emerging from granite. Surrounded by tranquil gardens, the memorial features quotes that resonate with his messages of love and equality, inviting reflection on the ongoing struggle for civil rights and justice.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial features a polished black granite wall inscribed with over 58,000 names of those lost in the war. Visitors can reflect on the sacrifices made as they connect with the displayed mementos and the adjoining Three Servicemen Statue and Vietnam Women's Memorial, honoring the complexities of the Vietnam experience.
The Lincoln Memorial welcomes visitors with a towering statue of Abraham Lincoln amidst classical architecture. With 36 columns representing the states at his death, this site invites reflection on unity and freedom. The steps, where Dr. King delivered his iconic speech, serve as a powerful reminder of civil rights and the values shaping democracy.
The Korean War Veterans Memorial includes 19 stainless steel statues of soldiers set against a black granite wall that mirrors their presence. Surrounded by juniper bushes, the memorial invites quiet reflection on the service and sacrifices of those who fought in the war, honoring over 36,000 lives lost in the conflict.
The exterior west side of the U.S. Capitol showcases stunning neoclassical architecture and the significant dome that symbolizes American democracy. Surrounded by gardens and the Reflecting Pool, this iconic site is perfect for reflection and photographs, especially at sunset when the structure radiates warmth and beauty.

We absolutely loved this tour with Ken! He was very good at explaining everything we saw and super knowledgeable with any questions asked. Very accommodating and the smaller group makes it more personal. I would definitely recommend booking this tour to maximize your time while there. 10 out of 10!
Dustin was wonderful. In fact he went out of his way to make sure we didn’t miss our tour. Traffic was terrible and the parking was a mess. We were running a few behind but he waited on us. He is very knowledgeable about Washington DC. We learned so much. Thanks Dustin! You rock!!!
Colin needs to slow his explanation down and up his projection so all can hear well. Did not know we could not enter all buildings.
This tour was excellent! The tour is done in a small air-conditioned van so it was not too crowded. The air conditioning was very welcome since we did the tour in July. The tour guide told us many things about the places we were passing as we went to each place that we stopped. For each memorial and site that he brought us, he gave us the story about it and told us how best to access the places that we would want to see. He dropped us as close as he could and gave us 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the site. He was very flexible. Since we were quicker with some sites, he gave us longer with others and even added in a site not originally listed. There was also a link that we could listen to on our phones to hear more about the things that we were seeing in case we forgot what he said. It was a very good experience and I would definitely use this business again!
Our tour with Heart of DC Tours was one of the absolute highlights of our visit to Washington, DC. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well organised, informative, and enjoyable. We visited all of the iconic landmarks and monuments, as well as some hidden gems that we probably would have missed on our own. Every stop was given just the right amount of time, allowing us to take photos, explore, and really appreciate the history and significance of each location. What really made the experience stand out was the incredible knowledge and passion of our guide. They shared fascinating stories, historical facts, and interesting insights that brought each landmark to life. It never felt like a scripted tour—it was engaging, interactive, and genuinely enjoyable from beginning to end. The pace was perfect, the transport was comfortable, and everything ran smoothly. We came away with a much deeper appreciation of Washington, DC, and felt like we had experienced the city in the best possible way. If you're visiting Washington, whether it's your first time or you've been before, I can't recommend Heart of DC Tours highly enough. It was excellent value for money, incredibly informative, and created memories that we'll always cherish. Thank you for giving us such a fantastic experience—we would happily do it again and will be recommending it to all our family and friends!
We had an excellent tour with Ken. He’s knowledgeable, accommodating and answered all of the questions our group had.
Great guide with good knowledge and willing to help older ladies. Fully recommending to others guests
The tour guide is exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the sites. He shared many stories in a fun way. He was very friendly and made the tour very enjoyable!! Also, he was a good driver and went above and beyond by taking us to a bonus site! I would highly recommend taking this tour of DC! Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Guide was so down to earth with a wealth of knowledge. I would recommend this to anyone coming to DC. Great for everyone!!!
We had a great time with Dustin our driver during our day tour, I went with my parents. He was very knowledgeable about all the monuments and memorials and was very accommodating as it was raining for majority of our tour. He is a veteran and has deep respect for the DC area. We had a great experience and admission price was reasonable given our tour being almost 4 hours long. It was a great atmosphere as we were small group with just one other family. I highly recommend using this company and would use them again whenever we come back to DC.
Tour was great, Ken was very attentive, great knowledge of the city.. an amazing way to see a large amount of things in a small amount of time..
Dustin did a great job. He had plenty of information for each stop. We had plenty of time to see the monuments.
We had such a great time on this night tour. Ken was so knowledgeable about all things DC. He did an excellent job navigating his van through all the construction, closures, tour busses, etc to get us close to each spot. He gave us very careful instructions on how to access each monument for the best pictures and then told us where to meet him and what time after each stop so the tour was very efficient!! The monuments are really beautiful at night so this tour was perfect. He even made extra stops at the end to drop us so we could get dinner after. HIGHLY recommend this amazing tour!
We had an amazing tour of the monuments at night with Ken. He did such a great job navigating safely around DC while keeping us informed and entertained with info about the different sites. He had a strategy for each stop and made sure we had enough time to see each one and get pictures. The monuments are truly beautiful lit up and night. We highly recommend Ken’s night tour!!
Perfect way to experience DC highlights with visiting family members! Dustin was the perfect tour guide, educating us on the history of infamous monuments, memorials, and landmarks before letting our group (including children!) venture on our own to explore each sight. Van was clean and comfortable and having Dustin as our very experienced driver to navigate around the city and conveniently drop us off and pick us up made the experience the ideal opportunity to see so much more than we could have without his guidance. It was the perfect tour!
I highly recommend this tour. Is comprehensive and gives you an idea of what you want to explore in more detail later on. Kent was very professional, knowledgeable and knows his way around the city. He answered our questions; did not rush the tour and gave us plenty of time to explore on our own.
Great day, saw 10 sites, Tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful, had enough time and not rushed
Awesome tour… Ken was very informative, gave good instructions to ensure we maximized our stops and was very personable in a professional way. He gave his all and genuinely wanted us to enjoy DC. I’ve been on other tours, Ken just took us from good to great.
Our tour guide and driver, Kenneth, picked us up on time. He was there early if we would have had any problems. His truck was incredibly clean with waters and trash cans to meet our needs. He took us to all the monuments and gave us a wealth of knowledge and history about each one on the drive. At each site we were able to enjoy at our leisure, take photos, and then would meet back up with him. He was above and beyond excellent. His customer service and approachability was 10/10! I can’t recommend this tour enough. We went with my 6 children (ages 2-14) and it was perfect!!! We were able to see all the monuments in the allocated time and felt like we had really been able to spend all the time we wanted at each. He was extremely knowledgeable about the city and helped us navigate to enjoy more experiences! He really spoiled us!!! We cannot thank him enough for personally making our family’s trip wonderful! It couldn’t have been better. I would tell every person I know coming to DC to book this tour.
Ken was a wonderful tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about every place we stopped and also about general things along the way. The four hours flew by and seemed the perfect amount of time to spend learning so many new facts. My husband and I would definitely use his tour again!
My husband and I had a wonderful tour with Ken, the owner, who was super knowledgeable about all the memorials and sites we visited! We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and highly recommend! It’s a no brainer!
We had the most enjoyable time touring the monuments with Ken. We learned more from his history as we moved along. Definitely a must.
Ken was the absolute best! The tour was so informative and relaxed, never rushed. Ken was professional and engaging, going above and beyond to make the tour experience outstanding! Highly recommend!!!
Professional and knowledgeable. We had extra time at the end so we saw some other monuments and statues not originally planned for the tour.
Ken was very knowledgeable in the history with each of the sites visited.Allowed plenty of time to peruse each site and take photos.
Ken is the owner/operator of this tour company. He is a perfect tour guide. Informative and patient. He did a great job describing the history and importance of every stop on the tour. 2 thumbs up.
We had a great tour, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We wanted a more personalized tour and this was it. We hit all the monuments plus one bonus stop. Would highly recommend this tour.
I really enjoyed this tour! I only had one day to explore, and this experience made it totally worth it. We visited several interesting places, and the guide was very kind and knowledgeable. He explained the history at each stop in a clear and engaging way, and always made sure we had time to walk around and take photos🤗 The van was comfortable and had air conditioning, which made a big difference because of the heat outside. He also provided water in the van and gave us a map where he showed the next places we would visit. There was even a QR code that let you listen to the history of each place during your walk (after he explained it in the van), which was amazing and super helpful for understanding everything🙆♀️. He kindly gave me a disposable rain poncho in case of rain, which I thought was very thoughtful. I also asked a lot of questions, and he answered all of them with patience and care😊 Honestly, I had such a great time. If you’re thinking about booking this tour do it! You won’t regret it.
Ken went above and beyond to make our experience great! His knowledge of the city and monuments/memorials brought added appreciation to all of them. Highly recommend Heart of DC Tours!
This tour is for groups no more than 12 which makes the tour faster with less waiting at each stop. We loved it!
Me and my friend drove to Washington yesterday, June 4, unplanned. When we were at the White House, we decided to look for a tour guide, bus or van. Thats how we met The Heart of DC Tours. We were a German couple. The tourguide/driver, who happens to be tge owner, was very knowledgeable, nice, clearly explained everything. Sad that we forgot to ask his name. Anyway, thank u very much Sir for a very wonderful, worhwhile and a memorable tour. This is Emilyn from New Jersey. I will surely recommend u to my friends and family.
Came in from NYC just for the tour. The views were amazing. Our tour guide Kenneth was really knowledgeable and professional. Was a amazing tour.
Our experience was amazing. We came in from NYC just for the tour. Please wear comfortable shoes. I really enjoyed the tour and the history. So emotional especially the fact we tour right after memorial day. Our tour guide was amazing. Thanks Kenneth!!
I grew up near DC and have seen all the monuments but I’ve never experienced this city like I did with Heart of DC tours. Mr. Ken was so fun to tour with. He knew so much history but also made the experience unique and personable. Not only did I learn so much but it was fun, comfortable, clean and safe. He seems very passionate about the history of the city and sharing that knowledge and experience with others. The kinda guy whose positive attitude just rubs off on everyone he meets. Growing up, when our large extended family got together for the holidays, we always picked a day to spend time doing an activity as a large group. Whether it was tours or excursions, we are well traveled in these type of services and Heart of DC Tours is a World-Class experience. I’d recommend them to anyone looking to sightsee, spend time with friends and family, and/or experience the history of the city for an affordable adventure.
Great tour guide. The smaller group is the way to go because you can ask more questions and have ample time at each site. Highly recommend!
I absolutely loved this tour! Ken, our guide, was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of great insights. I went with my family and had a wonderful day exploring D.C. Even though I’ve lived in Virginia my whole life, I discovered so many amazing sites I never knew existed. Ken shared fascinating stories and history about each monument before we arrived, which made seeing them even more meaningful. During our free time, we also had the option to listen to an audio guide, which added even more depth to the experience. I learned so much and had a great time—highly recommend this tour!
I had an amazing time. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable and had a great personality. He took the time to explain the history and shared interesting fun facts about each location. I would book again.
Our group had such a great time on our Monuments and Memorials Tour with Ken! The tour was both informative and enjoyable, providing great access to each of the top points of interest. The van was clean and comfortable and stocked with complimentary bottled water. When we got out of the van to explore each site, there was also a complimentary audio recording available for additional details about each memorial.
