I thought we were coming to a hotel for a nice relaxing weekend. I was wrong. Apparently they rent the restaurant and courtyard out for parties. The music is so loud I can't even hear the TV that is in my room, till 2am! We were told we could be moved to a smaller room or provided complimentary ear plugs. I didn't come to a hotel to wear ear plugs. They don't tell you it's booked either. I would not recommend this hotel unless you like loud thumping music with your bed vibrating. I have been an IHG customer for many years. IHG you really need to do better than this. Complaining to management here does not work, they don't care.

Great location, but the property desperately needs an update. The Good: Unbeatable for a leisure trip. You are within walking distance of the National Mall, museums, and major attractions. The Bad: The rooms feel old, with minimal storage space (very few drawers) and outdated lighting. There is zero natural ventilation (full fixed windows placed over the original ones), and the lobby lacks soul. Overall: An excellent base camp to explore DC, but don't expect a modern or vibrant hotel experience inside.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel! The hotel itself if completely beautiful and so interestingly decorated but it was the staff and the stay that made it even better! The front desk was amazing helpful, friendly, informative and welcoming. Also they allowed us to check our bags after checkout and stay vallet parked until 4pm so we didn't have to pay for further parking. The hotel itself is in close proximity to everything and within 30 minutes walk to just about all the sites. The art museum is across the street and that is really great! There are plenty of delicious places to eat around as well. Highly recommend staying here!
I want to express my gratitude to the staff at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC. I arrived after leaving a hotel I was not comfortable in, and they immediately accommodated me and welcomed me with kindness and professionalism. I was upgraded to a suite (I do have IHG platinum status), and I immediately felt more comfortable than I did in the hotel I left. This is an old building, so be aware that not every single thing will be modern and perfect in the room. There are no smart TVs, which is a bit odd. Furniture has some obvious wear, as do curtains. However, the historic nature of the rooms supersedes that and creates an environment that makes you feel like you are part of that history. I should add that it was extremely hot in Washington and the AC worked well, even in a room with 20 ft ceilings Location is excellent for any tourist. Quick walk to all Smithsonian museums, the national mall and monuments, along with restaurants and bars. Housekeeping was exceptional and serviced my room at off times daily by my request. I have not had this type of housekeeping service at much more expensive five star hotels. I arrived back to a refreshed room each evening. Room service menu is limited, however the food was delicious and quick. Small things like picking up deliveries from the desk downstairs was easy, and missing silverware from a DoorDash order was remedied by Mohammed bringing cutlery to my room late at night. I appreciate this staff for making my stay comfortable and accommodating me last minute.
If you want to feel like you’re staying in a strangers basement for $700 a night, this is the hotel for you! We booked a superior king room and were given a damp basement room with barely enough space to put our luggage down. We opened the curtains to reveal a giant yellow wall with a tiny window, about 8 feet high, right under the ceiling that you can’t see out of. The carpet was dirty/damp and the shower had mold. Just know if your room is on the “1st floor” you’re actually going to the basement below the lobby. Luckily we were able to switch to the room we booked but not until the second night. We weren’t given any sort of compensation for their mistake, (not even a drink to say sorry for their mix up) and when American Express called the manager was even rude to them! What an experience. I would have much rather spent my money elsewhere. To top it all off they tried to charge us twice :). I expect A LOT more from a Kimpton. I travel for business and fun often and used to stay in Kimptons, but I don’t think I ever will again.
