Enjoyed my stay at the AKA Whitehouse. The room was very spacious and located in an excellent location to all the sites. The coffee in the morning was a nice touch. The front desk attendant, Janae Alexander gave me cream for my coffee and was exceptionally nice and accommodating to my many questions. You won’t be disappointed with this place.

Possibly good for a long business stay but can’t recommend for a traveling couple. The high tub shower combination seems like a bad idea. The black mold on the caulk around the shower seems to solidify that thought. Getting in and out with no hand holds is dangerous. The room reminded me of a 70’s apartment. Most of the staff was very nice. All in all I can’t say I would return. Your luck might be better.
We booked AKA White House months in advance through Booking.com and secured a very good rate. Four days before we were due to arrive — while already in the US on holiday from Australia — we received an email saying AKA White House had cancelled our confirmed reservation due to “overbooking.” Four days. For a booking we had made months earlier. By then, comparable accommodation in Washington DC was costing over US$2,000 for the dates we needed. We had also specifically booked AKA White House because the apartment had a washer and dryer, something we had deliberately planned for after more than a week of travelling. This wasn’t simply an inconvenience or a matter of booking another hotel. The last-minute cancellation caused so much disruption and additional expense that we have had to cancel the Washington DC portion of our holiday completely. We have cancelled two flights, paid for additional accommodation in New York, and paid additional charges to change our onward journey so we can fly directly from New York to Atlanta. I cannot say why our particular reservation was selected for cancellation. I can only say that it was a confirmed third-party reservation, made months in advance at a very good rate, and four days before arrival we were the ones left without accommodation because the hotel was “overbooked.” When you book accommodation months in advance, particularly as part of an international trip, you need to be able to rely on that confirmed reservation actually existing when you arrive. We were genuinely looking forward to staying at AKA White House and visiting Washington DC. Instead, we won’t be seeing Washington at all. That is the lasting impression AKA White House has left us with.
We are a family of four who stayed at AKA White House for two weeks during our visit to Washington, DC, and overall had a very positive experience. The apartment was exceptionally spacious, with two bedrooms and plenty of room for our family. The location was excellent, within easy walking distance of the White House and both Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. The kitchen and laundry facilities were incredibly useful during our stay. The apartment was comfortable throughout. Some areas were showing signs of wear and could benefit from some minor DIY. However, this did not detract from our overall enjoyment. The front desk staff were friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. Housekeeping visited once a week, which was exactly as described at the time of booking. We also enjoyed using the in-house cinema, which was a great added bonus. Although we did not make use of the gym or terrace, it was nice to have those facilities available. Overall, we found AKA White House to offer excellent value for money and would happily stay there again.
Extremely disappointed with AKA Hotels. I canceled with plenty of time, yet they kept over $1,000 of my money. A reasonable cancellation fee might be $100–$200, but taking this much feels unfair and excessive. The cancellation policy was not handled in a customer-friendly way, and I felt completely taken advantage of. I would strongly caution others before booking here — make sure you understand exactly what you could lose if your plans change. Based on my experience, I do not recommend this hotel. Answer to the “owner “ I acknowledge that I selected a non-refundable rate and understand what that generally means. However, in my past experience with other hotels, even when booking similar non-refundable options, cancellations have typically resulted in a reasonable penalty or partial charge — not the loss of more than $1,000. My concern is not that there was a cancellation policy, but that AKA’s policy is extremely harsh and inflexible, especially given the circumstances. I explained that my cancellation was due to illness, yet there was no willingness to consider any accommodation, exception, or goodwill gesture. This response from the “owner “ reinforces my view that AKA’s policies are not customer-friendly and appear designed to maximize revenue regardless of circumstance, even when a guest cancels with substantial notice and for a legitimate reason. I believe a more reasonable and compassionate approach would have been appropriate.
