Tom spoke excellent English and coordinated with a kind driver to personalize the tour based on my husband‘s use of a wheelchair. He gave us lots of information about World War II, answered all of our questions & took pictures of us in front of requested sites. I would highly recommend this guide.

Itinerary
Following hotel pickup, meet your guide and begin with a brief introduction to Warsaw and Poland. This short historical overview provides essential context and helps explain how past events shaped the city you see today.
The first major stop is Muranów, a district built on the former site of the Jewish Ghetto established by Nazi Germany in 1940. Although it may look like an ordinary postwar housing area, the ground beneath tells a far more dramatic story. With your guide, you’ll uncover the traces of the ghetto and learn how the district was destroyed and later reconstructed.
At the intersection of Chłodna and Żelazna Streets, you’ll visit the location of the iconic wooden ghetto bridge, known from the film The Pianist. Once suspended high above the street, the bridge allowed traffic to pass underneath while connecting two sealed parts of the ghetto. Using historical photographs, your guide will help you visualize how this place once looked and functioned.
You’ll then learn about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, when Jewish resistance fighters launched a final stand against deportation. After several weeks of fighting, the ghetto was completely razed. Your guide will explain how these tragic events are commemorated and how history is layered into the modern cityscape.
The story continues with the broader context of World War II and Poland’s political future. Agreements between the Western Allies and Stalin placed Poland under Soviet control. The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 was the city’s last effort to change that outcome. After its collapse, Nazi forces systematically destroyed approximately 85% of Warsaw. The Red Army entered the deserted ruins in January 1945.
Next, cross the Vistula River to reach Praga, one of Warsaw’s most distinctive districts. Enjoy views of the riverbank before exploring an area that survived the war largely intact. Praga preserves the atmosphere of prewar Warsaw, with Belle Époque buildings, traditional courtyards, and a strong local identity. Once overlooked, it is now one of the city’s most creative neighborhoods, still largely untouched by mass tourism.
Back in central Warsaw, stop near the former Polish Communist Party headquarters. Learn how the communist authorities faced the challenge of rebuilding a destroyed capital after 1945. Architects hoped to create a modern and functional city, but their visions had to fit Soviet-inspired ideological demands. As you explore the area, you’ll see the results of these compromises firsthand.
The tour concludes with the events of 1989, when the Solidarity movement and Pope John Paul II played key roles in ending communist rule in Poland. Entering a new era of democracy and capitalism, Warsaw underwent yet another dramatic transformation. By the end of the tour, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how the city’s past and present connect—and how its complex history continues to shape modern Warsaw.

Wonderful tour with Martin! He gave excellent explanations and history of the city. Thank you for this great experience!!
Just spent 3 quick hours with Tom - a gifted educator - getting the dots connected with Warsaw/Polish history. His use of before and after photos was so helpful in understanding this area’s past. Appreciated Tom’s deep knowledge, humor and concern for our well being. He laid the groundwork for our deeper understanding of what we were seeing as well as alerted us to what deserved our closer attention.
Tom was my guide, he was very thorough, entertained all questions and all round an amazing guide! It lasted 3 hours and visited various sites. 10/10 would recommend if you’re coming to Warsaw.
If you're visiting Warsaw, book a tour with Conrad! His enthusiasm for his home city and his knowledge of both Polish history and modern local affairs is incredible. Conrad is engaging, and genuinely funny. Highly recommended!"
We had a great tour through Warsaw in the lovely retro car. Good info about the city and go to places. Thanks Marcin for the lovely day. We have enjoyed it very much.
A fantastic historical tour experience. It was the equivalent of a Cambridge University Semester course compressed into a seamless three hour journey. Warsaw is a big city with big blocks not susceptible to walking if you want to see all you need to see. In this tour you are treated to a mid century Volkswagen-type bus which glides you from one historical site to another. In our case, we had the good fortune to have a young lad named Conrad as our tour guide. He was exactly as we hope for: knowledgeable, engaged and engaging, passionate, has thought deeply about the issues presented by said monuments, willing to take and debate questions that arise— and most importantly not reading from a script and sleepwalking through the tour as many others do nowadays! We primarily speak English and his English was very good. Loved the tour as presented by Conrad. Five plus stars out of 5 star.
very informative.most enjoyable . would highly recommend. thank you very much Tom
Marcin was our guide. Great tour!
Tom’s knowledge of the history and sites of the city were excellent. His notebook of historical photographs provided an additional dimension to viewing the sites themselves. His driving skills of that Zuk, the minibus from the Communist era, was masterful.
Tom, our guide was amazing! Very knowledgeable and informative during the entire day trip around Warsaw. Never rushed on our busy schedule, even recommended some great places to try traditional Polish cuisine.
My husband and I recently returned from an amazing 10-day trip to Poland, and one of the highlights was a fascinating tour of Warsaw with our guide, Konrad. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Warsaw and Polish history and shared his insights in a way that was engaging and easy to follow. During the tour, we explored Warsaw’s Old Town, the Praga district, the former Jewish district, and many other notable sights. Konrad brought the city’s history and culture to life with interesting stories, context, and recommendations that made the experience truly memorable. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about Warsaw’s rich culture, history, and heritage in an enjoyable and informative way. It was a wonderful experience and one we will remember fondly.
The Warsaw Behind the Scenes Tour was excellent and incredibly informative. It provided fascinating insights into the city's history, culture, and hidden corners that I would never have discovered on my own. The guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the stories of Warsaw to life. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a deeper understanding of this remarkable city.
Unique tour around the city, very knowledgeable tour guide. Best way to go around the city and get to know its history
Tour guide Conrad went very in depth and gave a great perspective of a Polish citizen. Taught us lots we didn’t know and gave many details.
Conroy was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable of Warsaw sites and history. He was very engaging, professional and witty. My sister and I had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this tour!
Our guide Konrad was very accommodating and flexible as we were his only passengers. He frequently asked us if there was something specific we would like to see and offered to detour to see things. We got an excellent survey of Warsaw pre- and post-war, and stopped at the remaining Ghetto sites. Konrad had a book of photos to supplement the sites, most of which are barely recognizable. He was very friendly and honest and we had a lovely time!
Really interesting and engaging tour and we learned a lot about Warsaw and Poland and its history, architecture and people. Our guide was engaging, knowledgeable, interesting and humorous. It was also great to travel in the lovely old vehicle!
Exploring Warsaw in a post-war Żuk van was truly a unique experience. Tom drove us around the city, sharing fascinating insights and historical details that brought Warsaw’s past and present vividly to life. The tour offered a comprehensive and engaging overview of this resilient and intriguing city. Highly recommended for anyone looking to discover Warsaw from a different and memorable perspective.
The tour was very pleasant with so many background stories, very interesting and informative. Our guide adapted the tour to what we already visited and with what we wanted to see. Thank you very much Martin!
Conrad was great. Knowledgeable and accommodating. Six hour tour of Jewish and secular Warsaw exceeded our expectations.
Super interesting tour. A lot of historical insight with a personal touch. The guide was able to show us Warsaw history through the eyes of an insider. He was incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. Highly recommend!
Tom was great!!! Loved the whole trip!! Tons of knowledge!! A must trip if you love history and exploring the city in a cool van!!!
Conrad was very kind and patient. He spent time answering our questions about the history and timeline of the Jewish ghetto. I also appreciate his perspective about the advatages and disadvantages of developing versus restoring historic sites. Of all my many tours over the past ten days, Conrad’s was the most thorough and thought provoking.
Amazing 3 hours with guide Tom. He was so well verse with what really happen surfing WWII. If your an history buff, got for TOM 😊👌
It was a very entertaining tour. Driving through Warsaw in the Zuk (old car) was a real experience; enjoyed it very much. Our guide, Konrad, showed us some great parts of Warsaw that we wouldn't have found ourselves. He gave us so much information about the city and even catered to our individual needs. I highly recommend this tour.
Warsaw Behind the Scenes is a very apt title for this tour. Our guide Marcin used the architecture of old town Warsaw and even the rubble of the ghetto as a timeline for the historical events of the city. Instead of just a recitation of names and dates, Marcin explained WHY these events occurred, a story more pragmatic and realistic than romanticized accounts. He also used an album of archival photographs from recent times that helped make history more immediate for us today. Marcin obviously loves his city and wants to tell its story to others so that it can continue to endure in peace.
Great way to get a local perspective of Warsaw history you may not see otherwise. Our guide Tom was engaging and a wealth of knowledge. The time flew by!
Marcin was very personable and knowledgeable with passion for his city. Made tour flexible to meet our interests and questions. Excellent visual aids when explaining historical points
Tom gave us a very thorough and informative history of the city. His enthusiasm was infectious. He truly loves his job and enjoys making people happy.
Conrad gave a great tour all over the city that could not be had in a single walking tour, in a uniquevehicle. From the Ghetto, to the Warsaw uprising, to Praga, seeing the sites connected stories I had only read about previously.
We had such a great time with Marcin. He’s super passionate about Poland’s history and it really shows! It’s not just about seeing the sights — he takes you through the whole story, from before the war to after, with lots of interesting facts and personal touches. He’s happy to take his time, answer questions, and doesn’t rush at all — we even went over the scheduled time without noticing. And the retro minibus was such a cool way to see the city! Totally recommend this tour.
Tomasz was our family’s private tour guide this morning. He was great! He told us a lot about the history of Poland, bringing us to historical places and then giving us context on them with relevant images. It was really fun to see the images of events and then see how much the location has improved today. All in all, the tour was very fun! :)
You must do this tour to understand how Warsaw came to be the city it is today. Marcin is passionate about his subject, knowledgable and entertaining. The 3 hour tour flew by and we packed loads in providing great value for money. We were the only guests so had the privilege of a private tour and got to places that we wouldn’t have reached on our own. The vehicle adds a quirky touch and we would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Warsaw.
Tom is a fantastic historical tour guide. The detailed information along with interest in our input and questions is a great example of a quality experience. Safe and attentive to our needs. His zuk vehicle is delightful and adds to the history era. Highly recommend.
Great guide; took us to lots of not well known spots that’s we would have missed on our own. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing time we had. We learned so much from our knowledgeable guide. The classic van made the trip. We learned so much about Poland’s rich history in a fun and accessible way.
My husband and I booked this tour a week before we travelled. Martin collected us at the specified time from our hotel. As luck would have it, we were the only people booked on the tour and so Martin could tailor the tour to us. He took some time to find out why were in Warsaw, what our interests were and what we had already seen. We then set off in our “Zuk” on our tour of the city. We took in all the key sites and stopped at a local bakery for a traditional donut style snack. Martin was excellent throughout. His knowledge of and passion for his country’s history shone through. We learned lots of things we wouldn’t have got from guide books and wandering ourselves. Highly recommend. Thanks Martin, from Claire & Alan 18/1.
Marcin’s tailored tour for 4 adults in their 50’s and 3 sons in their 20’s was a perfect introduction to Warsaw. We’d arrived late the previous evening so we arranged an 1100 start and the next few hours were spent understanding more about old and modern history, culture etc. Before we arrived, he also gave us helpful tips via email about where to spend NYE which was helpful! Can’t recommend Marcin and his Tuk highly enough!
Wow, what an amazing experience. From Marcins prompt arrival collecting us from our Hotel then sharing his wealth of knowledge about this beautiful city, Marcin explained everything so eloquently. It was very insightful. We also loved Marcins sense of humour.!! Would highly recommend. Most definitely a 5 star tour!!
Karol was our guide and he was passionate and well informed - a joy to be with. We learned so much from him. Would highly recommend

Kurt was fantastic! His English is perfect and he is very knowledgeable. He gave us lots of information and knew the answers to our questions. He definitely tailored our tour to our requests and needs. We were delighted to have him all to ourselves.
The tour was a fascinating look behind the scenes of Warsaw. It was a great way to spend our first day in town. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed our guide, Marcin. He offered great insights and commentaries. He was very knowledgeable and pleasant and we enjoyed his humor.
Zuk experience was very enjoyable, the host is an excellent story teller with lots of knowledge about the country history and culture. Highly reccomended tour.
Marcin was an outstanding tour guide. His extensive knowledge of Warsaw’s history made the tour incredibly engaging. He immersed us in the city’s rich past, guiding us through both popular and lesser-known areas, each with its own unique story. Marcin’s passion for Warsaw is evident in his ability to recount the history behind every brick and corner. The Żuk-s added a nostalgic touch to the experience, making it even more memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Warsaw!
Martyn was a wonderful guide who had an amazing knowledge of history .. I was fortunate to share this experience with a great small group of people . I would highly recommend this tour . Cuk was in great condition and well maintained and added to the memorable experience.
This is a great tour! Karol was our guide and we couldn't have asked for anyone better! He is very knowledgeable and personable. He not only took us behind the scene but made a stop that was on our must see list but we couldn't find. I highly recommend this tour, it was the highlight of our trip.
The tour was fantastic! Karol is the best tour guide we have had on our trip. From pick up to drop off he was fully engaged and knowledgeable. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He invited questions and we had many great conversations. Anything we wanted to see was no problem. I highly recommend this tour and especially our guide Karol.
