It is an approximate four hour drive from Warsaw but you see the polish countryside which was nice in It’s own way - Jack is a native of Warsaw who lived in the communist days also so was a wealth of intelligent information about that time period

Itinerary
The journey to Gierłoż takes approximately 4.5 hours and leads through the scenic landscapes of northern Poland. Along the way, your guide provides historical context, explaining the rise of Nazi Germany, the outbreak of World War II, and Poland’s experience under occupation. This time also allows for questions and discussion, helping you better understand the events connected to Wolf’s Lair before arriving at the site.
Upon arrival, explore Zone I, the central and most fortified part of Hitler’s headquarters. Here you’ll see the remains of the Führer’s bunker and key command buildings. Learn how the complex was secured, how daily life and military planning functioned at the headquarters, and how the famous Operation Valkyrie assassination attempt by Claus von Stauffenberg unfolded in July 1944.
Enjoy an optional lunch break at a local restaurant housed in a former guard garage. Traditional Polish dishes are available. Lunch is not included in the tour price.
Continue to Zone II, an area once used by officers of the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Organization Todt. Unlike the museum area, this zone remains largely unrestored, offering a raw and atmospheric impression of the scale and secrecy of the complex.
After the visit, begin the return journey to Warsaw, taking approximately 4 hours, arriving back in the evening.

This tour was awesome. The tour was very well organized; we were able to see more than the object of our tour. The guide was really knowledgeable and helped me understand the subject matter. He made the tour enjoyable. Overall, the tour was well worth the money we paid for it.
Jacob was excellent. Very knowledgeable. Worth every penny to have a guide with so much knowledge to explain everything and bring it all into perspective. I would highly recommend this tour.
Jack shared his incredible wealth of knowledge about WW2, Polish and Soviet Union relations, as well as cultural and social issues. We enjoyed our field trip with Jack, our history instructor!
This was an excellent tour, with a door-to-door service and prompt pick up. Although it is a long drive from Warsaw to the Wolf's Lair (and back), time flew by for us because Marcin, our driver, discussed with us World War 2 and its effect on Poland and indeed, the resultant effects it had on post-war Poland. He took all of our questions and gave full answers to them. Both Marcin and the guide we had for the Wolf's Lair tour itself were extremely knowledgeable, personable and they spoke fluent English. The Wolf's Lair site itself is, quite simply, awesome in its scale and a true testament to the megalomania of the Nazi regime. The museum has historical artefacts (archeologists are still finding items at the site) and there is a restaurant too. This tour makes for a long day, but it is a day very well spent, and one you will not forget!
It was a long ride, but so worth it ! Jack met us on time and was a great driver and host. His knowledge and love of history kept us engaged. He is also a native of Warsaw, which was wonderful as so many guides are from different countries than the tours they lead. We could ask to stop any time we wished. At the Wolf Lair, we were handed over to a local guide, she was fabulous! We spent approximately 2 hours walking and exploring. Afterwards, I felt a little odd having walked in the same places as such men in history. We had a nice late lunch at the restaurant and then headed to a surprise visit to Lindedorf (not correct spelling) manor house on the lake. It is in the process of restoration, but the stories and connections to Wolf Lair were interesting. The little marina area was cute. Overall, definitely worth the time and expense! Thanks again to Jack for a great day.
We had a wonderful day with our guide Jaceyk. It was a lot of driving from Warsaw to Hitler’s Wolflair, but we learned so much about Polish history and culture, and saw so much beautiful Polish countryside. It was well worth it. At the wolfs lair we had a local guide who was both friendly and very informative. highly recommend this tour.
Marcin picked us up from the hotel, and we chatted with him the entire way to the Wolf’s Lair — a great opportunity to make the most of the trip and learn about local history and politics. The site is very well preserved, and it’s clear they keep making improvements to enhance the visitor experience, which makes it highly recommended. The restaurant on-site is also excellent, with delicious traditional food and a wide selection of local beers. Definitely a highly recommended experience. Thanks for everything Marcin, you nailed it!
It was an amazing experience. The guide was super friendly, very passionate about history, and the tour was unbelievable. Highly recommended.
Excellent experience. We were lucky to have Konrad as our guide. He picked us up on time and was very helpful. We had great conversation on our 2 hour drive to Wolf's Lair. Our guide in Wolf's Lair (can't remeber her name) but she was amazing. She spent so much time with us explaining in great detail.
Tom was punctual on pick up and immediately had a history & background for our hotel as it was also the anniversary of the WW 2 invasion of Poland. The drive thru the Polish countryside was beautiful as well as filled with historical information. He always took our comfort into consideration. The guide at Wolf’s Lair was just as knowledgeable & completed a perfect visit. Followed by a delicious Polish lunch, as we requested, we returned to Warsaw happy after a perfect day!
The tour was amazing. Martin was very knowledgeable and so generous with his time to answer all our questions. He was punctual and made sure the day was very enjoyable. The vehicle was so comfortable, and we were pleased with how safe we felt when sometimes I could be a nervous passenger. We learnt so much more than anticipated and got to see extra bits of history of Poland beyond Wolfs Lair. This is a must do tour for anyone interested in WW2 or wants to better appreciate what life in Poland has been like for generations. Many thanks, Martin, for your attention to our needs and for making a long day pass so quickly
We were super lucky as we had our driver and guide, Martin and trainee guide Tom with us for the day. It was a 4 hour drive but it passed very quickly enjoying the countryside we travelled through and learning a lot about the Polish history. At Wolf’s Lair we had a local guide who showed us through Hitler’s complex and was super knowledgeable about this. It was such a great day, learning so much and we were really looked after. So happy we took this tour. Highly recommend it.
What an amazing day of History with the knowledgable Martin and Thomas as our tour guides. Thankyou for a great experience and knowledge we learnt today, My daughter and I would highly recommended this tour as the must experience. The drive to Wolfs Lair is around 4 hours in a very comfortable air conditioned mini bus that was a smooth journey there and back. Thankyou for a great day :)
Honestly the most informative tour we have ever been on. Marcin is so knowledgeable on Polish History,We learnt so much . We saw Storks nesting ( something I have never seen before). Marcin pulled up so I could take photos. The Lakes District is a must see as is the tour of Wolf Lair. Our tour guide at wolfs lair was also so knowledgeable again we were blown away with her knowledge. If you want a professional, personalised ,informative tour ( with a bit of fun included) book with Marcin at Warsar behind the Scenes. You won't be disappointed.
This was an absolutely amazing day so much to see and learn. Our guide Marcin was incredible, our day is one we won’t forget.
Marcin is a truly brilliant guide for this extremely interesting expedition to the Wolf’s Lair- he takes you to many places that the usual tourist doesn’t get to see He is entertaining and absolutely knows everything about his topics. A must do if you’re interested in WW2 and enjoy a day driving in the countryside
If you are interested in WWII, you have to take this tour. Marcin is the ideal guide - an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny companion. He took us to parts of Wolf's Lair (the outer zones) and Warsaw that we would never have otherwise seen. Travelling with Marcin is a great way to understand the architecture, history and culture of this fascinating country.
Marcin is the best guide in Poland! His knowledge is the best and his warm friendly approach is an example to the Polish people! His enthusiasm for all of the Polish cuisine was inspiring and showed an epic constitution. Highly recommend for private tours across Poland as well as half a day across Warsaw. Cheers Marcin!
A fabulous day and hard tobelieve what the war brought to poland. Our guide was so knowledge able and he had so much to inform us about
My friend and I went to the Wolf's Lair on a tour with Marcin. If you are interested in the eastern front of WWII, you have to take this tour. Although the building were destroyed when the Nazis retreated, everything else, including the remains of the buildings, is still here. The isolated forest, the paths through the woods, and the old railroad lines remain. You can trace Stauffenberg movements from where he armed the bombs in Keitel's bunker to where it exploded at the conference bunker. You can see the road that Stauffenberg drove out on and the train platform where Hitler met with Mussolini later that day. For those interested in this dark chapter of history, you will be overwhelmed. Marcin drives you to Wolf's Lair from Warsaw and gives you the background on that part of East Prussia, which is now part of Poland. He'll help you understand the history of the massive migration of Poles and Germans from the east to the west following the war. But the great thing about having Marcin as a guide is his total passion for what he does. In addition to the Wolf's Lair, he'll take you a little off the grid and show you the bunkers of some Nazi bigwigs, such as Albert Speer, which are not in the current Wolf's Lair site. And then he'll take you a lot off the grid, to the intact bunkers of the German Army headquarter in East Prussia. You can follow the footpaths between the these bunkers (some of which belonged to the plotters) and through the forests to the railroad tracks, and you'll end up on one of the Mazurian lakes. For those who are interested in this obscure subject, I couldn't recommend this trip more highly.
Marcin was great! He was my guide and driver for a private Wolf's Lair tour from Warsaw and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. The conversation was great, he was so knowledgeable, and it was such a relaxing day. Next time I'm back in Warsaw, I definitely plan to take another tour with Marcin!
Marcin was an amazing guide for our full day to the Wolf’s Lair. He gave us a detailed explanation all about the history of Poland and the Nazi occupation in World War 2. He stopped several times during the long ride so that we could use the bathroom and get something to eat and drink. The car was comfortable for the long journey and he was an excellent safe driver. If you have any interest in World War 2 history I highly recommend this outstanding tour.
This was a fantastic tour - a truly wonderful day. Both Martin and Jadwiga were fantastic tour guides. We saw so much and our tour guides were very personable and very knowledgeable. Martin exceeded our expectations even more by taking us to a small town to see German bunkers that were not destroyed at the end of the war and took us to a waterside town for a lively dinner.
A bucket list adventure. We had seen many films about the wolfs lair and Hitlers Bunker system, and were interested to see it for ourselves. It exceeded our expectations. We were picked up exactly on time by Marcin, in a very comfortable mini van. The journey up takes you through countryside. Interesting to see the style of architecture change as we went through polish then into the Marsaurin lake area which has German house styles. The trip takes 11 hours. Four hours to drive up and 3 hours to walk around the bunkers and woodlands around the bunker complex. Before coming back as the sunsets over the fields. The guide was knowledgeable and took us into areas where only guides can go. After we had a great authentic polish lunch and talked with our guide about what we had seen and swapped ideas. A totally immersive day discussing WW2 and the impact on Polands history from a Polish perspective.
Excellent tour! The driver Mark was very interesting and gave us a lot of information about Poland that really made you stop and think. Our tour guide at the Wolf’sLair, Judwega was not only very knowledge but also very passionate. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend.
Our guides knowledge of the history behind what we were to see today on our tour. And his English skills were excellent. We would highly recommend Marcin to everyone.
An excellent trip. The diver and the tour guide were excellent. The driver ( mark) was so knowledgeable he could talk indifferent subjects.
One of the greatest tours I've ever been on was to the Wolf's Lair with Warsaw Behind the Scenes. The bunker complex was amazing, and so was our guide, Artur Sent. Not only did Art give a great tour, but he was a great companion (and driver) during our 4 hour ride each way between Warsaw and the Wolf's Lair. Art gave us an education on Poland, its history, and its people. He was very well versed in all things related to Poland and we found his conversation fascinating. When you book, definitely ask for Art!
And this could be the review: Congratulations on a top-class your to the Wolf's Lair on Tuesday. Thank you for arranging for Marek to drive us, and for Jagoda to be our guide. We really appreciated learning so much about Polish history leading up to & during WW ll. Up until Tues, we thought of the enormous suffering endured by the Jews, which, though true, hadn't included all the countless Polish people who suffered as well. Marek's excellent English and knowledge and passion for Polish history was infectious and as a result have returned home to continue reading & learning about your history. We highly recommend the Extended tour because we got to see and learn so much more through Marek's enthusiasm and willingness to share his knowledge. Jagoda, our English tour guide at the Wolf's Lair, was a passionate & dynamic guide filled with endless information. and we appreciated her thoughtfulness and care as we dodged sudden downpours. It was a very special day, a highlight at the top of our list of our 4 days in Warsaw. Behind the Scenes (Marcin Grabowski) is to be congratulated on an outstanding tour with. Many thanks. Joy & Bruce Crabtree (NZ)
Mark picked us up on time and drove us 3 hours each way to the Wolfs Lair. Whilst driving he happily answered all our questions regarding Polish history and culture. Very informative and we enjoyed it immensely. Our guide at Wolfs Lair was Judwega (I think that's how you spell her name). Judwega was very passionate about the subject and keen for us to learn about all the events that happened there. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough! Well worth the visit!
We took the tour with an English language guide. She explained the different structures and who was using them during the war.
We booked two tours on tripadvisor before going to Poland. My husband is interested in WWII sites and the Wolf's Lair is where Hitler was almost killed in operation Valkyrie. This was our first tour of the two. It's a long day, and you read about a long ride, approx 4 hours, but our tour guide could not have taught us more and given us a more memorable experience. We did the extended tour so we visited three sites. At the Wolf's Lair we had a local guide expert and she was also excellent. Without a guide you will see demolished concrete bunkers and a room at the end with photo installations that are not offered in English. The guide arranged by Warsaw Behind the Scenes explained the buildings, offered personal accounts, could answer questions. Marek joins you again at the end and you continue the tour. We got such a full history of Poland, including the history of the Jews after the war. It was such a great tour and Marek was excellent. He really spoiled us for our tour the next day to Auschwitz. If you can get Marek for any tour while in Poland, don't miss this opportunity! The only tip I would offer is BRING BUG SPRAY and keep it with you while you are on the tour through the Wolf's Lair. Other than that it's all pretty much taken care of.

Could not have been better. The Guides and Driver were absolutely amazing. Very happy. One of the best tours we have taken.

Excelent tour, fully recommended! Incredibly nice and helpful guide, great food, great sights, and a lot of Polish history learned. We loved it!

Very nice bunker just a bit stuffy and without air. Unfortunately it was not comfortable but at least I met my best friend Adolf critler there.
German megalomania and madness still comprehensible. Impressive and terrifying how this inhuman and destructive machinery worked.
We were in the Wolfsschanze in the former East Prussia in June 2021. A very informative visit that was worth the journey. Some comments: Arrive in time as the parking is not very large. Bring at least two hours to visit restricted zone 1. When we were there, it was 32° warm! So bring enough water and don't forget the protection against the mosquitoes!
Discover on foot this sinister place from which Hitler commanded the assault of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front (avoid the bad taste of the tour in armored vehicles, souvenir shops where gas masks and fake grenades are sold!)
