Marcin was an excellent guide and really made me feel comfortable during my full day trip. He has a wealth of information to share and his tour is well thought out and enjoyable from start to finish. Itinerary
Majdanek Nazi German Concentration and Extermination Camp is located just outside of the city. In Nazi plans it was supposed to be bigger than infamous Auschwitz and become slave labour source for creating new empire on the east. Exceedingly strict conditions in prison are symbolized right at the camp's entrance by impressive monument located in a place of the former front gate. A walk among remains of camp barracks with exhibitions inside, well preserved crematory building or gas chamber and gigantic Mausoleum with ashes of Majdanek victims – all of this fills visitors with sorrow and reflection.
During its golden ages Lublin was a very wealthy city, full with aristocracy impressive palaces, amazing sacral architecture and tenement houses. It was called “Vienna of the North”. Stroll through narrow, cobbled streets of Old Town, picturesquely located on the hill. It allows to almost breath in the history. Majestic buildings from many different ages spread around the area create an unique atmosphere. Without a doubt Lublin is the most beautiful city in east part of Poland and very much worth visiting.

I was so very impressed with this tour from start to finish. My driver/guide, Marcin, was punctual and provided a wealth of information as we drove to and from Treblinka. He is very knowledgeable about history and also present day Poland. I asked quite a few questions and we had lively discussions, which made the long driving time go by effortlessly. The visit to Majdanek itself was exceptional. The preservation, memorialization and commemorative aspects of the site allowed for much learning and deep reflection. It was just the right amount of Marcin’s direction and also self-paced moments. Majdanek is incredibly well preserved and organized effectively for visitors. Thanks to Marcin’s tour, I was able to really walk through the site and learn details directly from him about key aspects of the memorial. I asked him many questions and conversed about what I was seeing and feeling. I especially appreciated how he drove me around the site which was large and could be difficult to walk for certain people. I never felt rushed and he really took the time to make sure that I was getting the exact experience I wanted on this tour. Our return trip was even more impactful as I was able to talk with him about what I observed and asked even more questions, which he fully addressed. The final part of the tour involved seeing parts of Lublin (including old town) and eating perhaps the most delicious fried pierogi I have ever had! I highly recommend this as a private tour to get the full benefits of being guided through a very important and difficult historic space. It’s not just the drive; it’s the personal attention and insider knowledge a tour like this provides every step of the way. A+
Marcin gave us an excellent tour. Not only did he explain the concentration camps but answered all our questions about Poland and WWII. I thought visiting the camps might be overwhelming, but he guided us through this heavy topic in a way that was manageable. The visit to the older part of Lublin afterwards was nice to see and also put the concentration camp into perspective of the Jewish ghetto that was there during WWII. Great overall tour. Thank you!
Martin was terrific. He is very knowledgeable and did a great giving perspective and details concerning Majdanek. Rounding out the day with pierogis in Lublin was an excellent addition.
Marcin was great. So knowledgeable. Great balance of educating and giving us space. shared important perspectives I would not have thought to even ask about. 5 stars!
incredible guidance Martin was amazing and thoughtful showed us and tell story of the place and it was such a strong experience.
We were lucky enough to have Marcin again for our private guide following our trip to Treblinka the day before. We were picked up on time from our hotel in a large SUV and again Marcin answered all our questions on the way. Majdanek is a much busier camp to visit as much of it has remained intact. Marcin escorted us around the camp explaining each part and answering all our questions. He also gave us some time to ourselves for reflection. He then drove us to Lublin and gave us a walking tour of the old city including the castle and the Jewish ghetto before sharing a meal with us at a restaurant in the old town. It was an interesting day and we would like to thank Marcin for providing so much information and making the day run so smoothly. We would not have been able to have done this on our own.
A great tour. Marcin was a very friendly and informative guide, he answered all my questions amd we had great discussions with him. Also the lunch was delicious. Highly recommended.
Fantastic tour our guide/driver was Marcin and all the reviews are correct, he was wonderful! Very informative tour and Marin was fabulous company as well as a guide. Lunch in Lubin was also great and we were able to cater for the fact that I needed a gluten free meal. Would definitely book with this provider and Marcin again if returning to Poland.
Our guide, Martin, had vast knowledge and ability to transmit information in a very interesting and clear way. His ability to maintain solemnity and balance in a hard site to visit, Majdanek Concentration Camp, was impressive and much appreciated. We enjoyed learning history about Poland and Europe, past and present. Truly an extraordinary tour.
I had the privilege of taking a private tour with Marcin Hilgier to Majdanek Concentration Camp and the Old City of Lublin, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Marcin is incredibly knowledgeable and brought deep historical insight, compassion, and sensitivity to a subject that is as painful as it is important. His thoughtful narration made the horrors of the Holocaust feel more real and immediate—tied to the very ground we were walking on. Throughout the tour, Marcin struck the perfect balance between historical detail and personal reflection. I came away with a much deeper understanding and appreciation for the history of this region and the magnitude of what happened there. I would highly recommend this experience—and Marcin in particular—to anyone looking for a meaningful, respectful, and enlightening visit.
Marcin was beyond incredible. He made the whole experience worth every cent. We were heavily influenced by previous reviews and can’t understand exactly why they were given. Marcin gave us so much information including first hand insight into the impacts of WWII on his family. Although visiting Majdanek was quite heavy and emotional, Marcin was able to lighten the day by taking us to visit Old Town Lublin, enjoy Perogis with us and engage in conversation.
Our tour guide Marcin was incredible! Friendly and very knowledgeable about Majdanek and the history of Lublin. He also ensured we were comfortable the whole time even though it was cold and raining the day we visited. The lunch was the cherry on top. Would highly recommend!
Marcin was a phenomenal guide! Very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. He ensured that we were comfortable the entire time, even with the cold. He answered our questions and gave great explanations of the camp and Lublin. Definitely recommend booking this experience with Marcin!
Martin was a phenomenal guide! He was kind, took his time and explained everything to us completely. The camp was very well preserved and the exhibits were in English, so everything was simple to understand. The day we went was very cold, but he took that into account to ensure our comfort throughout the trip. The lunch was delicious and filling! We wholeheartedly recommend booking with Martin!
The tour was fantastic, only made better by Marcin and his passion and knowledge. Highly recommend this experience. Topping it off with touring old Town Lublin and having lunch was excellent.
Was amazing! Guide explained everything friendly and showed us as planned. We left very satisfied from the tour
Our tour guide yesterday was excellent. Very knowledgeable about Madjanek and the surrounding areas. Safe driver and explained everything. 10/10
An excellent way to experience a very confronting historical site. I am so glad we were guided by Marcin who gave us a personalized tour as a private group. Very comfortable vehicle, seamless pick up/drop off. Great relaxed pace for the day. Delicious food in Lublin Old Town. Would recommend to anyone.
Martin is as good a tour guide as you can get. Honestly, if I was going back I’d call ahead and request him. I was already in Lublin instead of Warsaw, which is the normal starting point. He had no problem meeting me in Lublin and picking me up. As far as the tour itself, there probably isn’t a question you’ll think of that he won’t be able to answer. People tell me I’m good with history, but I’m not close to Martin’s level. I also learned about the impact that WW2 and the Holocaust had (and continues to have) on the relationship between Germany and Poland. We finished with a very pleasant lunch at an excellent restaurant. Again, it’s worth calling the company and requesting Martin, even if you have to shift your plans or pay extra.
We had a wonderful and somber time visiting Majdanek. Our tour guide, Marcin, was fantastic. He was prompt in picking us up at our meeting point, and from there he provided a day of great conversations and a wealth of knowledge on both the history of the camps and Poland in general. I felt that we had a much better and more in-depth experience at Majdanek than if we had visited it by ourselves. We also had a very nice visit to Lublin, where Marcin did a great job highlighting some of the city's features. We got to enjoy some very tasty pierogis and ice-cold Perla beers. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone!
I did a day tour with tour guide, Marcin Hilgier. He was wonderful!!!!!! I had a great time spending the day going on the, " Majdanek Concentration Camp & Lublin Full Day Private Tour from Warsaw." He got me to the places and back safely and it was enjoyable having lunch with him. Thank you for making my trip so memorable. I really love Poland!!! - Alice Dallas, Texas, United States
Great day trip with a lot of history. Our guide Marcin was very knowledgeable and provided a great overview of Majdanek and the town of Lublin. He answered all of our questions and gave us some great insight into a variety of topics.
We recently had the opportunity to go on a private tour of Majdanek and Lublin with Marcin Hilgier. We found Marcin to be extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He was compassionate and understanding while touring Majdanek and presented the history of the camp and what happened there in a special and touching manner. Going to Lublin and learning about the city was an ideal way to end the tour. It was all a memorable experience!
Majdanek Concentration Camp & Lublin Full Day Private Tour from Warsaw was a very special tour. Our guide Marcin, who accompanied us on the tour, is really very good in this regard. One of the most important criteria for me about the guide is that its English is understandable. Marcin was the perfect guide for me in this respect. I understood everything he said word for word. We also benefited greatly from his knowledge. We learned and shared a lot about the camps, Poland and daily matters. He is a very good communicator. I highly recommend both the tour and Marcin.
Our tour guide was excellent. Marcin's knowledge and dedication to the difficult history of Poland, Majdanek and neighboring Lublin was extensive. We gained a new understanding of Poland as a country and all that they have been through with the information Marcin provided. Visiting a Concentration Camp is difficult, but we felt paying respect for the millions of lives lost was something we wanted to do in our lifetime. We are so impressed and how far and fast Poland has come. Such a friendly group of people with a well-developed infrastructure, we recommend understanding Poland, it's history, politics and development with the assistance of Marcin. Without a doubt, this was the highlight of our trip to the EU this September.
It was a really interesting experience. MARCIN was a very nice and helpful guide. He picked us up at the door of our hotel and he has a really extensive knowledge about history, WWII above all. Most people were in a tour group but I definitely recommend it to be private. 10/10!
An incredibly worthwhile experience for my family. Marcin was a phenomenal guide. From the moment he greeted us, he was open to discussing not only his vast knowledge of the places we visited, but also, to discussing life in general growing up in Poland. It was a wonderful opportunity to really learn from a local. He dealt with the difficult subject matter of this particular tour to Majdanek and Lublin with tremendous insight and sensitivity. We could not have hoped for a better guide.
Marcin was our guide for this tour. His driving was excellent and his company was even better. We talked about so many things on our way to Lublin. He answered all our questions about life in Poland and we talked about so many different things. The tour of the concentration camp was well done and he gave us time at the end to explore on our own. It was very informative and he was very respectful of the atrocities committed at this camp and others like it. The tour of Lublin was lovely. It's a nice small town and we learned a lot. Marcin took us to a very quaint local restaurant for a delicious lunch. We sat and chatted like old friends. We were dropped off at our hotel at the end of the day and we said goodbye to Marcin. It was an amazing experience and my husband and I would highly recommend this tour!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Marcin. He provided historical as well as present day context for our visit to Madjanek. The information provided throughout our time in Lublin enhanced the walk through the city and made the visit more meaningful. We enjoyed the dumplings for lunch and conversation about life in Poland. Overall an engaging day that felt like it went by quickly.
Marcin/Martin was an excellent tour guide. Very professional, respectful and informative. Safe driver and great conversationalist. Would highly recommend a tour with this guide.
Martin provided an amazing tour of Lublin with a visit to the sobering Majdanek concentration camp. Martin is a historian with a great deal of information to share about the city, Poland and the tragedy of the holocaust. This was my second tour with Martin and I really appreciate his explanations. I did a half day modification of the full day tour since I was already in Lublin and I also appreciate the flexibility to accommodate my logistics.
Marcin is a brilliant guide. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel to our return 10 hours later he was great company. His knowledge of Polish history is immense and added greatly to our understanding of how the Jewish population in Warsaw was so large and its almost entire eradication by the Nazis. it is approximately 2.5 hours by car to Majdanek but Marcin filled the time with many facts and answered all our questions about a whole range of issues up to the present day. We have visited other concentration camps and Majdanek is very well preserved. When reflecting on the things that took place in the camp the silence which now prevails is deafening. Marcin has all the facts to hand about the camp, its inhabitants and daily life. He also gave us some time to ourselves and our personal thoughts as we moved towards the end of our time there. The memorial to all those that died in the camp contains a visible mound of ashes of an estimated 20000 souls and it is very moving. Upon leaving the camp we took the short journey to the nearby town of Lublin. We had a very interesting walk around the Old Town which has some amazing historical buildings. We came across a large beer delivery lorry which did its best to squeeze under a 15th century arch which resulted in chunks being taken out of it whilst a local policeman looked on! We had lunch of Polish dumplings which were excellent but such was the amount we skipped dinner that night. This tour is expensive but Marcin makes it so worthwhile and is good value for a very full day. Thanks Marcin for your knowledge and friendliness plus our introduction to fig flavoured Vodka! Well you are in Poland after all.!!
Me and my husband had a great trip to Majdanek. It was moving to see and experience these horrible historical remains. Our private guide Marcin was friendly and talkative throughout the trip. He had a lot of knowledge, which definitely helped to make the trip better. It was also good that we also had time to go and experience a bit for ourselves. The trip ended with a trip to Lublin, a very nice town, where we also had a good meal in a local restaurant.
I have seen several former concentration camps, but this one was the best preserved. Marcian was the perfect tour guide, as he had in-depth knowledge of the camp as well as the political history surrounding it. I was surprised to learn that the camp was preserved, in part, because the Soviets used it as a prison after repelling the Germans. The Polish people have a long and proud history of defending themselves against aggressors. This was a powerful reminder of how humanity needs to stand together. Excellent tour; great conversation; tasty, local food; and highly recommended.
Visited Majdanek & Lublin on 4/02/23 Excellent trip which I would highly recommend the guide was Professional and Excellent informative and friendly the vehicle was modern clean and in good condition the tour was excellently conducted from start to finished there was plenty to see and do & I learned quite a bit 10 out of 10
Marcin was an incredible guide and knowledgeable historian. He made this important tour memorable with heartfelt accounts. Also, his choice of venue for lunch was perfect with authentic Polish cuisine. This private tour was the best experience I have had. Thank you!
I had the opportunity to book this tour to Majdanek Concentration Camp & Lublin with Marcin from the moment he pick me up at my accommodations he was friendly and engaging. He educated me on the history of Poland 🇵🇱 the Polish and Jewish people. I had a better understanding of what occurred. We talked about Ukraine🇺🇦 how he viewed the refugees were coping in Poland. Marcin is quiet knowledge of the history of what occurred in Poland and in other countries; therefore, a historian in my opinion. As a result it was an enlightened experience for me. Words cannot convey my experience at Majdanek camp only to say I was fortunate to have Marcin at my side explaining the horrible destruction that occurred during that period. I learned so much from him. The holocaust occurred and we have to remember polish people also suffered. Having lunch after and a walk of Lublin was a nice break from the horror and emotional toll the tour took. If you have the opportunity to take this tour. Marcin is your tour guy. His delivery of the information was incredible. His knowledge of the history is phenomenal. Thank you Marcin I enjoy my day spent with you.
The tour was very smoothly laid out and highly educational. The ease with which our guide, Marcin, could answer historical questions about any point in Polish history allowed for many informative conversations. The Majdanek part of the tour gives a grim and surreal feeling immediately upon arriving to the site. But these events did occur, and Marcin provided a number of interesting minute details and context to enhance the tour. The tour of Lublin should not be overlooked as part of the package, either. It was a nice change up from 1940s history to learn about Polish history I have never heard about before and to walk the streets of a city where you will not find many other tourists. Additionally, the restaurant we stopped at have the best pierogi (plural) that I have ever tasted.
Marcin is very knowledgeable and made our tour of Majdanek most informative. He is pleasant to travel with and made sure that we did not miss anything. His attention to detail is outstanding and made it possible to fully understand the horror and cruelty that was everyday life in the camp. We highly recommend Marcin. The Majdenak tour was so informative. The lunch and tour of Lublin, very informative. Really interesting tour
Marcin is a phenomenal tour guide. I was extremely impressed with his vast knowledge of the Holocaust, Polish history and his understanding of the world. There were no questions he couldn't answer for me and he allowed me the necessary time to have for myself without feeling rushed. If you're planning a trip to Majdanek/Lublin or any other place that he offers tours, don't hesitate to book it. It will be worth it.
Majdanek made the conditions real to us.Retaining the idea of what a camp felt like. Lublin was a lovely stop, lots of history and memorials to its history. Marcin was a brilliant guide.
Marcin is an extraordinary guide. I know a great deal about the subject matter but he blew me away. His knowledge, insight and presentation are beyond compare. He interacted with each person on the tour to make sure that our questions were being answered and our different perspectives were addressed. If you are fortunate enough to be on one of his tours you will be treated to mix of sensitivity(as the subject matter is emotional), knowledge and humility. I went to Madjanek expecting to feel what I do when I see any Holocaust museum but because of Marcin I felt like I had gotten educated historically, culturally, socially and sympathetically.
Marcine was an exceptional guide. He has a lovely and warm personality and has a fount of historical information. Despite the difficult nature of the tour, Marcine balanced sensitivity and knowledge in an ideal way. He went above and beyond at all times, and we so enjoyed spending the day with him. He was truly the highlight of our trip to Poland.
This was an invaluable opportunity to learn about and reflect on this very difficult part of the European history. Our guide, Marcin, was very helpful and knowledgeable. He shared with us many facts and stories about the camp and the Holocaust in Poland, while also giving us time for personal reflection. The visit to the beautiful town of Lublin was a great way to end the day.
Martin was a knowledge, informative, and friendly guide for our tour of Majdanek and Lublin. A difficult place to visit, obviously, but he made it all the more meaningful with his insight. And a great driver, too.
Interesting and moving trip to Majdanek and Lublin. Martin, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, a good driver, and made the day worthwhile. Highly recommended
My wife and I wanted to go to a concentration camp but many were so far away. friend told us about this tour and we decided to try it. We are so glad we did. Our tour guide Marcin picked the 3 of us up at out hotel on time. We drove to the camp and then to a small old town where we had a wonderful included lunch. Marcin told us so many things about life during the soviet control times up to current day. He was very kind and did not rush us and did whatever he could to make us feel comfortable. I cannot recommend this trip enough. Also we had wanted to go to one of the large well know concentration camps but this one did not disappoint at all.
This is an outstanding way to spend a free day when visiting Warsaw. Martin is outstanding. He is knowledgeable, insightful, great company and the trip is a tremendous value for all you see, do and experience. I highly recommend this tour and guide!
