My wife and I booked the " Auckland to Waitomo Glowworms, Kiwi House & Blue Springs Day Tour" at the last minute and couldn't have been more happy with it. Jaime, our guide, was unbelievable. It was a small group and he was an excellent guide. These are are breathtaking and we didn't want to leave. If I could give more than five stars, I would.

Dean was really good. Dean was very knowledgeable when we went to the Kiwi house. There was no guide around so he showed us all around. He knew all about the different birds showed us where to look. It was fantastic, showed us all around. He took us to a most amazing Bakery. It was lovely, love the trip love the caves. It was very beautiful. Would definitely book another trip with him.
I did a cave tour here way back in 1997 but this time we opted for.something a little tamer. Boat tour is the way to go if you don't have the whole day and we were on a cruise ship. We arrived a few days early and they picked us up from the hotel at Princess Wharf. Great guide who gave us history and comedy along the way. It was a fantastic tour! As a retired professional firefighter/driver for a fire department, I can say most people don't notice a driver's habits unless it's a bad habit. At all times, Steve's priority was our safety. He always parked in safe areas and checked to make sure everything was clear before anyone got out. Smooth braking, acceleration and lane changes. A little technical glitch with his microphone but he overcame that and just used his voice. Cooler full of water, some snacks, local history throughout the drive and genuinely, a very personable guy. We enjoyed every minute. Steve is a gem and you are lucky to have someone like him representing your company. Whatever you're doing, keep it up. Wholeheartedly recommend this tour and the driver Steve. Thank you
Hands down, the best part of this tour was our fabulous guide Dean. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable about each area he took us, he was also incredibly friendly. He truly made this tour even better. The Waitomo Caves were interesting - there was the on foot cave portion, and then the boat ride through the caves. The glow worms looked like we were seeing a night sky filled with constellations. The Blue Springs were stunning, and fascinating. The setting was so peaceful, and serene. Highly recommend any tour Dean heads up. Bonus - we saw a beautiful rainbow while on the road!
I had a fantastic time on this tour! Our tour guide, Steve, was absolutely wonderful and so kind. He made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day, providing us with water and snacks along the way. He also shared interesting background information about the scenery and places we visited, while giving us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. There were also enough breaks to use the restroom, have lunch, or grab a snack, which was really nice. All the locations we visited were absolutely worth it, and I’m so happy I decided to do this tour! I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting New Zealand. 😊
Amazing experience! I recommend a 100% as an international student!!
We booked this day trip as we had limited time on north island and this offered a unique experience. Dave our driver, fountain of knowledge was fantastic, keeping the group informed and explaining many things to us all… early pickup and quick stop for pie and coffee before the glow worm caves .., what an experience, next it was kiwi bird sanctuary which was great to see … afterwards it was lunch then blue springs which was magnificent the whole day was great and if ur lucky Dave might be ur driver and guide … you wont be disappointed
Dean was an amazing driver and tour guide. We hit all the spots on the tour plus some extras. The lunch place he took us to had fabulous food. The Glo worms and caves although interesting and cool were a bit underwhelming. A 1 time thing!
Deane is the most amazing tour guide- and made my experience so much fun. I was able to see so much of New Zealand's best in such a short amount of time. I saw the Kiwi Birds, The GlowWorm Caves, and the beautiful Blue Springs. Deane truly made the tour group feel bonded, and gave us recommendations of where to eat/ ways to make the most out of our trip. Would recommend this tour for anyone who wants a memorable trip!
Blue Springs are a must see! The glow worm cave was super cool! The kiwi house was a little less impressive.
Jaime made the trip so enjoyable, and the sights were breathtaking—especially the Blue Springs. Everything was perfectly organized. Thanks, Jaime, for an incredible day!
An amazing trip made even more enjoyable by the highly professional and informative guides. Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and attention to detail made the experience truly memorable. Highly recommended—this is definitely a must-see experience!
The whole day was amazing! We had Deane as our guide and he was absolutely brilliant. Told us fun stories, was very helpfull and was very informative about so many things. We got plenty of time at each place to look and take photos. I would 100% recommend
Each part of this excursion was incredible! We were able to see kiwis in their enclosure, Blue Springs was utterly beautiful, Waitomo glow worm caves is possibly the most incredible thing I have ever seen
Great Expirence and great Tour Guide , David ! This tour guide know all the pleases very well and he can give e a good guide of everything .
It’s a long day but well worth it. Deane was a fantastic host and made the day pass smoothly and not feel as long as the tour turned out to be.
It was so good. The experience to see the glowworms was not as long as expected, but still impressive.
It will be a full day. Dress accordingly. You will also be doing a good amount of walking. So choice of footwear is important.
This tour is well worth it!! Deane was an amazing guide, he was friendly from start to finish, he had water for us, umbrellas for the rain. And was an absolute legends to chat to, so friendly, up for a chat about anything and everything and seemed genuinely interested in the group he had. Travelling solo sometimes tours are a bit dull, but I had a great time and felt safe that I would not be left behind at any point. Deane was diligent that all members of our tour were accounted for!! thanks Deane! The country side is beautiful, the glow worm caves were awesome, lunch at the Fat Kiwi was leasurely and not rushed (plenty of gluten free options at this cafe). Followed by a quick visit to kiwi house which was nice (even though it was raining), and then onto the GORGEOUS Blue springs which were as stunning as I had hoped. The tour was fantastic 10/10
Wonderful tour and highly recommended! Jaime was our guide and he shared lost of insightful information and fun facts. It was a great experience and an ideal way to see the Kiwis, the Waitomo Caves and the amazing Blue Springs in one day!
The trip was amazing, we thought it was the perfect day and would definitely recommend visiting each place. Our guide David was lovely and so informative about each stop but also taught us all so much about the surrounding country and regions we passed through!
The Glowworms Cave experience is one of beauty and reverence. Our guide was informative, respectful and spiritual. This is an experience not to be missed. The Kiwi Hose was quant, and enjoyable. Our Driver came along with us and gave some interesting facts bout the birds we saw. Finally the Blue Springs was a lovely experience of pure nature which capped the day nicely. Now, a word of caution - be sure to check with your tour company about pick up times. Know that you will have only 20 minutes for a breakfast take away after 2 hours of driving. The same can be said for the Lunch time - which came at 3:30pm on our excursion. The entire day was 11+ hours as advertised.
Waiting Glowworm cave tour is a must. We had a great time and got a chance to see the beautiful countryside
Smooth and comfortable ride all round. Plenty of rest and refuel spots and ample time at each stop to soak in the sights. Our guide Aaron was knowledgeable and friendly, and the extra scenic stop was a pleasant surprise!
This was a great experience and our great guide Cori made it informative and extremely entertaining. Would highly recommend.
The host, Aaron, was absolutely fantastic. This was my first trip with Expedigo and it went so well that I booked another one with them shortly afterwards! Aaron's inflection on Maori history throughout the drive was something that I particularly appreciated. The trip went smoothly, the beautiful spots are everything that you hope them to be, and we were brought back in time for dinner, with a fun additional stop that I won't spoil for the reader. Oh, and I would recommend that you be on time throughout the tour, unless you're okay with being (gently) told to be more punctual. 🫠 Overall, it was a great trip; highly recommended!
My family and I had a great time. Really put my hats off to our guide/driver David for driving us around, explaining to us all areas in the bus and when we were outside at the attraction. He is really nice and polite. A big thank you to David from expedigo tour transfer 👍
The glow worm cave was super great - perfect length of time, very interesting, facilities very clean. The Kiwi House was good - very interesting session on efforts to save the kiwi species. The site is showing its age and could use finding to upgrade some of the exhibits.
Day started off a little rough as the tour guide forgot to pick me up. I contacted Expedigo and was repeatedly told that the driver was running late and was on the way. When the van arrived the driver admitted that he had forgotten to pick me up and had to double back. Remainder of the day passed smoothly. The glow worm caves exceeded my expectations. The tour was really cool. I would recommend the tour, and I recognize that my experience is probably not the usual. I had no other issues being picked up on time for my booked tours.
The day was fabulous. Our driver Deane was informative and lots of fun. The Glow Worm Caves are magical.
David was a wonderful guide for our day to see the Glow Worm Caves and Kiwi House. We had a small group of 10 people. We made a “comfort stop” to get a coffee and a danish on the way to Waitomo. The caves and glow worms were really fascinating. We weren’t allowed able to feed the small parakeets at the Kiwi house. Also we weren’t allowed able lucky enough to se Ros, the elusive Kiwi in her environment. It was a great day and would recommend it.
We were scheduled to go on the Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Tour by Expedigo Tours and Travels. Two days before the tour Expedigo Tours contacted us and we were told that the Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Tour did not have the required 6 person minimum for the tour. Our options were to reschedule to another day or downgrade to just the Waitomo Cave Tour and receive a $50.00 NZD fare difference refund. We chose the downgrade to just the Waitomo Cave Tour, as we had no other days available in our Itinerary. Upon pick up on the day of our downgraded tour, we were crammed into the small passenger van to its maximum capacity of twelve. Deane our driver from Expedigo senseless seating assignments in van left the larger passengers cramped and uncomfortable for the 2.5 hour journey. When confronted with the seat assignment, Deane became insulting and borderline belligerent. During the trip, Deane provided minimum information on the journey to Waitomo Caves. The actual Waitomo Cave tour itself was amazing , this tour was conducted by Spellbound Tours not Expedigo Tours. Upon return from the tour , I spoke to Fatema from Expedigo Tours regarding our fare difference refund of $50 NZD , she assured me that I should see the refund within 5 to 7 days from the tour change on the 11th of February 2026. The date of this review is the 23rd of February 2026 and I have not yet seen and credit to my credit card.
Wonderful once in a lifetime kind of experience! Really enjoyed the knowledge of our tour guide and Expedigo’s staff were very friendly! The caves really did leave us spellbound!
It's not to be missed. It's fantastic. It's one of the best memories we have for our trip. The driver was great and pointed out a lot of things on the way. Our tour guide at the caves was phenomenal very knowledgeable and very nice.
Excellent tour; Tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Caves were awesome. The glow worms, too!
Highly recommended. Long trip with car from Auckland but absolutely worth it. Specially the Cave tour is amazing. Our tour guide Gary was on time, very professional and telling us a lot of useful information. Everything went smoothly and perfectly.
Very well planned tour and our driver Dean was an excellent host. Two thumbs up! Defintely a not-to-miss experience!
We really enjoyed the tour with Mr. Matt. He was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Ruakuri Cave was a fascinating place. The kiwi was a very cute and it was fun to see the other animals too. Thank you.
We enjoyed emersing into the Moari Village, learning about their culture. Waitomo Cave, the blue luminescence is a unique thind to see and experience. Memorable and educational tour, highly recommend. Our tour guide, Paul, was very patient and accommodating. Thank you😊
We had great time visiting Waitomo caves and Otorohanga kiwi house on this tour. Our tour guide Mr. Ali was very helpful and told us interesting facts about the area.
This was a wonderful day of caves and then the aviary. The caves were the highlight! The lunch stop was good as well.
Excellent guide and interesting tour. Aaaaaaassa. Very entertaining and acting visit to the caves. Wwwwwwwwwww
The driver was very friendly, the kiwis are very cute animals. And the Waitomo Cave is a must see thing. When you are here you just go ;)
What a great Guide Hozefa! Super trip! Thanks! We saw Kiwi park and Waitomo! Very friendly group! I can recomend to my friends:)
Fabulous day out. Huzefa was knowledgeable and informative on many New Zealand topics and kept us entertained for the whole journey. The caves were spectacular with the added bonus of the glow worms, and the guide was very good. We saw the kiwis, which were very quick moving, and several other birds and creatures at the kiwi house guided by Huzefa. Thoroughly recommend. G & D
Our guide was knowledgeable, considerate, friendly and professional. Even went out of the way to show us additional sites. Excellent experience
I normally don't write reviews, but this company went above and beyond. If you're yearning for an adventure that melds the natural wonders of New Zealand with its unique wildlife, look no further than the Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Small Group Tour! This mesmerizing excursion promises a day of awe and excitement, perfect for nature lovers and thrill-seekers like me. Our group was small, so we all got to know each other while driving down to the cave. Huzefa was full of knowledge and made sure we had a great time. The moment with stepped into the Waitomo Caves, you're transported to a world of enchantment. These limestone caves, carved over millions of years, are adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites that create an otherworldly landscape. My highlight was the Kiwi Bird House. Here, you get to encounter New Zealand’s beloved national bird, the kiwi, in its natural habitat. Watching these nocturnal creatures forage and play is a rare treat, as they are typically elusive in the wild. The Kiwi House is dedicated to the conservation and breeding of these endangered birds, and your visit directly supports these vital efforts. I'm not going to ruin the surprise, but got to see the kiwi bird. It was a delight! Many Thanks, Huzefa!
Tour gùie was really friendly and helpful. The new proposed offer for tour that visited 2 caves was fantastic. We enjoyed it much. Thanks!
We really enjoyed the tour with Husefa. He was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about New Zealand. His dedication ensured that we had the best possible experience during our visit.
Amazing trip, our guide was excellent. We were lucky, because the rest of the group has cancelled the tour so we had a private tour finally. Highly recommended
