The travel guide that the National Park Service puts out is really very good and it gets you through the park very easily. Viator did not work for us in this situation. We have always found.Viator tourist to be excellent, but this is the first audio one we had done. Our first problem came when we could not download to our second phone. We had bought two tours so that my husband could listen through his hearing aids. Coming up with the Apple access code was impossible being on the road so he was unable to use this tour. We will never use another audio tour.

Cornwallis and Washington send representatives to the Moore House. The British are offering total surrender to the French and American coalition.
This ground is still an important part of American history. It’s here where plans were drawn for the final battle of the American Revolution.
Just as the French Navy made a large contribution to the success of the American Revolution, so did the French artillery.
Grand French Battery, the location of the largest concentration of French Artillery during the Battle of Yorktown.
You might be surprised to find that this isn’t actually a Revolutionary War cemetery. Instead, this is a Civil War burial ground!
We end our journey at a fitting place, the Yorktown Victory Monument. This monument was conceived soon after Cornwallis’s surrender.

Reviews
We really enjoyed having our own travel guide at our fingertips. We started the tour one day and ended up finishing it another day. This flexibility was so great and we really enjoyed the experience. All the information was relevant and gave us a great insight into how Yorktown was in the colonial period. Definitely recommend this audio tour! Five stars. Thank you!
This tour might’ve been one of my favorite experiences in Virginia. The app was a little hard to get used to it first with the map and the direction portions. But once you got used to it, it was very user-friendly. The narrator was very good and easy to understand. And just touring all the battlefields was so awesome. Definitely got to see some places that I never thought I would. Loved the option of leaving the car or staying in if you wanted to. Highly recommend.
Loved the audio for our driving tour. So easy to navigate. Informative. Brought history to life!
Do not go during government shutdown! All the roads were closed for this tour. Very disappointed! They should have said something when I purchased.
It was very informative. However due to Yorktown not posting on its app or website that the visitor center was closed that meant the tour roads were closed.
Interesting narration and really helped bring the battlefield to life. Only issue was there was an event going on and that made navigating thru the app very difficult. Lots of closed streets. Had to abandon the map all together
Excellent driving tour through history with a few (optional but highly recommended) short guided walks.
This was very informative. There are opportunities to get out of your vehicle to explore or just stay inside and drive through. I liked all of the information but most of all, I liked the drive through the forest.
Great tour with lots of interesting information and stories not told in the buildings themselves or history books. It was a very hot day and the guide made sure we were shaded as much as possible. We'd highly recommend the tour.Williamsburg Walking Tour
The tour kept telling us to go one way and it would be the wrong way. As soon as it gave directions the map would be gone from the screen. It took us from stop number 4 to the last stop. We later went back as we had taken so much time that we had to move on to something else & the majority of the stops were behind closed sections that we could not access. The app randomly would start or would start at the beginning over & over. This could have been a simple app & experience, instead it was just a big headache and money thrown away.
The map was laggy, so we had to turn around a bit, but it was the perfect way to enjoy and learn about the area on a 100 degree day.
There was a long circuitous route through the area but road blocks and sreet closures with no detour signs or updated directions caused us to backtrack over the same areas and hearing the same narrative several times on several occasions which was frustrating. The Moore house was locked and closed. The drive app narration did provide very useful informaion. It just needs more work.
You are in your own vehicle so you can go at a slower pace. It was raining out so we didn't get out of the car. It exceeded my expectations. I am glad we did this tour.
The views were somewhat dismal. The audio was good tho. The drive was nice. Places to pull Off and check out the (lack) of sites.
Overall it was a great experience! There were a few areas that we lost the signal and missed so information. And sometimes it seemed the timing was not def a bit. It was describing a place we had not actually gotten to yet
The App was often behind and skipped words in directions. The beginning was completely worthless because they have most of historic Jamestown blocked off. Also, it says that it begins at the visitor center when it actually begins at the victory monument. Overall, I would not purchase this again. The history part was good. That was the only part of this we enjoyed.
Fun tour and easy to follow instructions. One recommendation, try to provide more content for those long stretches between stops. Additional stories about the battle, anecdotes about the participants would be a welcome addition.
There was great information that would have been missed otherwise. Easy to follow and it auto plays at each point. This brought more history and information to a historical trip.
My friend and I agreed that there was a fairly big disconnect between what you hear and get to see. A lot required your own imagination past the redoubts and Moore House. Some good info but a fair amount of quiet time. Wish the map was continuously shown along with the tour clips as we had to turn around a couple times because we missed a turn. Not terrible for the price, kills time. You do get out of vehicle a few times so watch weather forecast. I will say the customer service was helpful. Not thinking ahead, I booked a bit late in the day before a different tour that took longer than expected. I called the customer service people and they gave me a code for the next day very easy which I appreciated.
There was a great deal of “dead space” while driving. It would have been nice to use that driving time to tell more history. The advertised time of the tour is 1-2 hours which accounts for driving time, and the information provided is about 20 minutes. Use that time to tell more history or provide options to listen to learn more. The positives are the concept of the tour is fantastic and allows for great flexibility. The directions were very good and easy to follow.
I highly recommend this self guided driving tour!!!! My husband and I were still wanting to experience the history that Yorktown is when our plans changed due to the pouring rain! This was PERFECT!! The emailed instructions weee simple to follow and get it all setup for when we arrived! I would suggest you NOT starting at the visitor center that it says on the email because it’s closed mostly. I would suggest starting where the map shows on the app instead at the monument! We also did the alternate 2 & 3 at the beach and I must say that was spectacular! Gorgeous views with added interesting facts that you won’t find in a history book! This tour was the highlight of our trip so far and the petite cafe on the street at the coffee shop in the 1790 historic home was the icing on the cake!!! It’s a MUST!!! We have told so many about the tour already!
First time visiting this site. Narrative and directions were well done. Took some unexpected detours into consideration.
We loved seeing where our American history took place. The narration is very educational and well done.
The app was very informative and easy to use. It guided us around the locations, and we went at our own pace. Highly recommended!
Information was informative. Maps were right on. MORE information would be even better. Yorktown Days was on the day I selected. There was No indication & thought I wouldn't be able to do the tour, after spending the money. So an update of holidays conflict & notification that the tour can be done on subsequent day(s). Otherwise, for a novice tourist of Yorktown battlefield tour it was great!
The tour was great, however, getting it to work smoothly was a big struggle. The map and directions were initially confusing to follow.
We had a fantastic guided audio tour to the battlefields. The narrator was interesting, easy to understand and informative Highly recommend
The Hospital Areas The Surrender Area I loved the efficiency of the tour. And there was just enough walking, so we didn't getoverly exhausted after walking williamsburg all day.
A greatly enhanced experience with the narration, we still read the signs and plaques, but the context brought things to life.
My ticket was not recognized nor accepted at the museum. I believe this was a scam! I am very dissatisfied that I trusted this site. I thought TripAdvisor was replicable.
The narrator is wonderful. He provided interesting information in an exciting way. The directions worked perfectly! We look forward to doing more tours!
Really enjoyed this tour! Loved that it talked while we drove from stop to stop. Very interactive! Easy to follow the directions!
It was a really hot day, so having a self guided tour that could gps locate us, which meant we didn’t have to figure out which track on a CD to play, and where we could decide when we wanted to get in and out and for how long, was really great.
Overall a good experience with helpful information. The geolocation narration worked perfect. Wish the tour map started at the park service building since people need to get tickets anyways.
Seeing the actual sites of this historic location brought history to light. We were glad to have this opportunity.
The tour to get to see all the sites in the area was very good. The audio accompaniment needs a little tweaking with better directions.
We found the driving directions very confusing. Tried to find the starting point three times and since it was close to the endpoint, it took us to the end of the tour after just a few stops. Finally ended up just listening to the narration instead of following the route.
The audio tour was great. The app needs a bit of work as sometimes it was easy to miss turns as the navigation updated a bit slowly.
The audio tour was most interesting and complete with narration depicting the various locations of significant events. It was concise and easy to follow. Just a caution: be sure to check the prelude emails thoroughly to download the program with the given password. Once the download is complete, the process was great and easy to follow.
Everything was amazing. Very thorough information about the location and history of Yorktown. I plan to return with the family so that the can experience it too.
The app didn’t start speaking but started 5-10 seconds into a segment, if we continued to drive it stopped so we had to park each time the section started to speak. The app didn’t provide directions so we had to turn around a few times when we took a wrong turn.
The self- guided tour was very informative and easy to follow. We learned a lot. Even though it was pouring rain, it was still a great tour.
The driving tour was a great activity for a rainy day. Thanks for salvaging our day out as a family. We enjoyed the dialogue and sights.
The stories and information provided in the audio tour made the sites more meaningful. It definitely worth the $12 price
I recently took the Yorktown Battlefield Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour and it was an amazing experience! The audio guide was informative and engaging, providing a wealth of historical information about the battlefield and its significance. The self-guided nature of the tour allowed me to explore at my own pace and take in all the sights and sounds. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history or looking for a unique and memorable experience.
