Husband & I enjoyed learning the history and seeing the ships. Wish we would have had more time to explore the local area's. Maybe next time.

Take the time to read the information about the exhibits. Watch the short videos as you go in. Both museums can be a little confusing on the flow, based on design, if you are trying to exit, so keep that in mind. Especially if you have others in your party who might wander off. Although I bought the 7 day ticket, I did both museums in the same day since I’m in town for 2 days and the second day is raining all day. Otherwise I would’ve done them on separate days.
exhibits, ships, museum, settlement and interactions with staff were outstanding. Parking was convenient
The Jamestown Settlement national park is a very beautiful building and property. If you are either a history buff or just interested in how the USA was first governed then this is one of the places to visit. The building contains a couple rooms of information of how the English people lived and cohabitated with the Indigenous people. The property has a full size version of what the fort looked like. Also there are 3 models of the ships that were used at the time 2 that sailed over from England. There was also employees that you can talk to about how things were done back then. Little children might not be interested in this unless you have a guide show you around.
Tis was a wonderful expierence we did it along ith the Yorktown American Revolution Museum. My son (17) is sa huge History Buff and he really enjoyed the fort and native settlement. The museum was very interactive and beautiful. We followed a tour guide who was informative and entertaining. I learned a lot.
We did a week-long historical trip and Jamestown Museum was the surprising highlight of the trip. The short movies and exhibits were outstanding. The staff was very cordial and helpful. We highly recommend this facility.
I keep getting a request to review this tour that I never registered for. The tour I was actually registered for, We Shall Overcome: A Williamsburg Black History Experience, was cancelled at the very last minute. I was not offered a refund, but just registered for this tour without my permission. I had to contact Viator to get a refund. Vendor is unscrupulous.
These two historic places are a “must see” tourist destination. The multi-day pass allows visitors enough time to get the whole experience. Both museums are authentic and well maintained. The only recommendation I have is for Viator to state in its ticket pickup instructions that the voucher can be exchanged at either location to start your experience.
We visited Jamestown Settlement on our first day of our trip to the Historic Triangle Area. I found the museum to be interesting, especially the exhibits about Pocahontas. I really enjoyed the ships and the Settlement itself. I was a little disappointed when trying to board and tour the sailing ships as there were throngs of school children and it made a more through tour difficult. This can be expected when visiting here. Otherwise the Jamestown Settlement is a very good place to visit.
Wonderful experience in Williamsburg/Jamestown. So much history at all our tours and stops!
Easy drive from Williamsburg. We traveled to the island and enjoyed the scenery and stopped at the visitor center for booklets and maps of historic jamestowne. We returned to the settlement and bought tickets. Watched the 20 minute film about Jamestown to start and then ventured outside to see the replica buildings and settlements. There are costumed actors that are knowledgeable and want to share the history. We loved the Powhatan village and being able to compare to the settlers homes. The museum and dioramas in the building were informational and informative
The park was very clean and full of friendly interpreters to explain the exhibits and how life was back then. All of the interpreters were in period costume so it made the experience much more meaningful. We really did enjoy our time there. I would recommend this to anyone.
Enjoyed the Jamestown Settlement Museum, musket demonstration and going aboard the ships. An employee at Historic Jamestown suggested the cafeteria when we got to the Settlement Museum as an alternative to eating a picnic lunch on the grounds due to rain. They offered many choices and was good food at a reasonable price. We were only in the area for 2 days and 1 was dedicated to Colonial Williamsburg so we didn't get to see the American Revolution Museum
We learned so much at Jamestown Settlement. It was cool to step on the ship replicas. The museum was full of information! The food was good ANS it wasn’t expensive. If you haven’t been, it is worth the trip!
The museum provides visitors with a real experience in a time travel. Very well done and full of interesting information. The outdoors are even more interesting and beautiful.
Excellent adventure for the cost
Really loved the museum! So much information. The grounds I found hit or miss.
Alot to take in at the museums. Both indoor and outdoor things to see. Alot of walking though so bring your walking shoes.
We spent all of the morning, and a fair amount of the afternoon at the Jamestown Settlement. The interactive museum was fun as well as informative. The outdoor exhibits were a hands on glimpse of the life of the first settlers. What an uncomfortable life that must have been! The experience was worth every penny.
This attraction is done in the same style as the museum of the American Revolution and run by the same organization. Large museum with a couple of films and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Then, an outdoor reconstruction of the Jamestown fort, a Native American village, and three ships that takes maybe an hour. Our family enjoyed this museum more than the American Revolution museum. This museum is focused on Jamestown from the founding in 1607 and its growth until 1690 and not so broad a topic like the entire American Revolution. 25 minute film in the main theater is a great way to learn about the settling of Jamestown of Jamestown and there is also a very good 15 minute film on Bacon’s rebellion. Overall, found this museum to do a much better job presenting and explaining Jamestown than the National Historic site. Would definitely recommend going here first before the National Historic Jamestown Settlement Park. Combo ticket that combines these two parks in Jamestown and the two parks in Yorktown is a good deal if planning to see it all (check website for details). Otherwise, $20/$10 is the admission charged. Food options are much better here than at the museum of American Revolution. This museum has a cafeteria instead of just a small cafe.
I would have given it 5 stars but when entering the museum side I saw protesting and discrimination of law enforcement in some photos and artwork. I work in law enforcement and we work very hard to protect. I understand protesting is part of our history but again not Jamestown settlement history. However, the dragon exhibition about porcelain and the Chinese migration was very informative and nicely presented.
As history enthusiasts, my husband and I are always looking for ways to immerse ourselves in it. So, of course we had a very enjoyable visit to this museum. It is chalked full of information, replicas and even features some great outdoor living history exhibits. The indoor part of the museum has tons of educational exhibits and films. And then there's the interactive outdoor area featuring re-enactments, a fort, and people dressed in period clothing who are happy to answer questions. There are also replicas of ships from the 17th century -- some of which you can get on and explore! You can also walk through some of the buildings in the fort and watch demonstrations. There is a lot to do at this museum so you will need at least an entire day to properly explore it.
The weather was bitter cold the day of my visit, so I didn't spend as long as I would have liked. I probably could have spent the whole day though. I loved Jamestown Settlement. Even though there's less restored than Williamsburg, I actually found it more interesting because it portrays a time about 150 years earlier, when the settlement was still new and people were just trying to figure out how to survive. I started at Paspahegh Town. I loved entering the dwellings and seeing how they would have looked when people were living in them. The docents were also very good. One gave me a demonstration on how to scrape the fur off a hide and then let me try it myself, which was cool. I spoke to another docent for awhile, who answered a bunch of my questions. I went down to the ships next. It's really incredible how they crossed the ocean in such small vessels. The docents again were very knowledgeable. I finished the outdoor exhibits at the fort. It was so interesting. Having just been at Williamsburg, it was like being in a completely different world. There were several costumed interpreters there. The one in the guard house was so funny. Another was a musician who gave demonstrations on period instruments. He even made his fiddle himself. I was there in time for the Christmas Lord of Misrule performance, which was interactive, informative, and entertaining. I was very cold at that point, so I went to their indoor museum. It was truly fantastic. It's a wonderful exhibit, and much bigger than I expected. I was there for about an hour and a half and didn't get to finish. I probably needed another hour. It covers the pre-settlement period up through the 1690s. There are artifacts, dioramas, documents, reproductions, and pieces of art. The signs were informative but engaging for lay people. If you like history, don't miss it - it's fascinating.
Nice opportunity to see history while enjoying beautiful weather. Jamestown character gave period complete activities like printing, sewing and shoe making. Looking forward to our next trip.
Amazing seeing all the history! The settlement had wonderful characters representing that period. Looking forward to our next trip! So much more to explore and so much more to learn.
Yorktown Museum was excellent! Admission is very good and not costly as one would expect. Great atmosphere within building. You will need at least 5 hours plus to view this entire museum.
Amazing tour despite the rain had a blast and got to touch the lucky toe . The guide was very knowledgeable and had personal stories about her years with the company and tours.
It was great to have the unlimited opportunities to revisit the sites because when one is traveling with kids, smaller chunks of time can be much more effective than a longer chunk of time. The living history portions were great for kids and adults alike, and I highly recommend the experience.
Very informative & historical! Museums were fabulous & educational. Outdoor experiences were very good also!
What a great facility. Attractive, clean & well planned. Really brings history to life. Great artifacts & displays. Staff was exceptional.
This was our family‘s favorite activity. The Jamestown settlement was really awesome. You have the ability to tour through Native American lodges and similar dwellings for the settlers. The kids especially enjoyed the demonstrations by period costumed guides.
It was a great experience, very worthwhile. It is well maintained and very interesting. Well worth the money to go see.
Museum has a lot of information, takes a while. Outdoor portion has a lot of walking. They have ships to look at, villages, etc. Will take a while to do it all. Very nice gift shop.
One of the best museums by far, in these United States. Modern interactive presentations. Innovative exhibits to give you a totally immersive presentation.
A lot of outside exhibits so bring water for the heat/humidity but they’ve done a great job knowing the history and doing a good job explaining it.
Very informative about our history. Museum is very upscale and offers a free guided tour every 30 minutes. Highly recommend
Enjoyed both Jamestown Settlement and American Revolution Museum- I really liked the Jamestown Settlement. The buildings and display spaces for both museums are architecturally very interesting and allow a lot of room for some big displays. Both must also have a lot of research facilities since the spaces are so expansive. The film in the Jamestown museum was especially interesting and provided important historical perspectives, and the detailed exhibits were well curated, reflected a lot of research, and helped us learn so much about Native American culture before Europeans arrived, how things changed, and English settlement and plantation. Understanding the history and circumstances in England and Europe that contributed to the colonization was also interesting. I liked how the museum used the theme of the three cultures (Native America, African, and English) and how all contributed to and were affected by one another- and the outdoor recreations of settlements for all three added to the experience. Also enjoyed seeing the recreation of one of the original English ships. Gives quite a perspective of what the travel across the ocean must have been like.
We really enjoyed our visit to Jamestown Settlement—it was a great way to experience early American history in a much more interactive and family-friendly setting compared to Historic Jamestowne. The recreated settlement and Powhatan village were highlights. The buildings and structures give a great visual of what life looked like for both the English settlers and the Indigenous people of the region. The costumed interpreters were knowledgeable and engaging, and they did a great job answering questions and explaining life in the 1600s. The replica ships docked in the harbor were especially fun to explore and helped us appreciate just how small those ocean-crossing vessels really were. It gave the whole group a better sense of the challenges the early settlers faced. This site is definitely geared toward families and school-age kids, with lots of hands-on elements and room to explore. It worked well as a follow-up to Historic Jamestowne, offering a more visual and interactive perspective on what we learned there. Highly recommend Jamestown Settlement for anyone visiting Williamsburg with kids or looking for a more engaging way to experience early American history!
I have been to Historic Jamestown before, but never to the settlement. I was blown away. It is truly a living history museum. There's so much to see and do. You need a whole day to do it right
We found Jamestown Settlement to be just average. It seemed geared to a school field trip and less than we’d hoped it would be.
Jamestown ticket is only good for 1/2 of Jamestown. Original half is with another company. American musuem was better than expected
The museum covers a great time line of history. Give a great overview of how it all came to be the start of America. The reenactors give much depth to the lifestyle of the settlers.
Jamestown is a very interesting historic place. It gives an idea of how the first settlers lived in the USA. There’s an indoor gallery with a comprehensive exhibition about the history. Outdoors, there’s a prototype of an indigenous settlement which stood quite near to the fort. The fort is another very informative visit, with demonstrations and narrators telling stories describing life at the time. Down at the river, are two of the three ships moored at the piers, and they can be visited as well. They are copies of the original and give us a pretty good idea of how those men lived during their 144 days crossing. Despite the not so good weather the visit was definitely worth it.
Excellent look at the settlement, the rebuilt, fort, and Native American village! The interpreters were very knowledgeable, especially the gentleman who told us about tobacco growing. Museum was very cool. Also, especially the movie about Nathaniel Bacon.
This was an easy and convenient way to pay for this and the American war museum in Yorktown. I didn't realize that it included both and we didn't go to the AWM because I didn't want to pay $40 for it.
Clean, informative, layout is progressive and many staff/volunteers to help. I like being able to go back to read more.
This is a great location to stay if you are visiting Williamsburg, Yorktown, Gloucester and James town attractions.. The house is clean. The property is perfect for a dog that needs to play fetch or just likes to walk around. Because of the curves in the street, I recommend you watch the video the owner sends ..
Fabulous living museums. Kids loved the Native American village and playing Shinny. The front desk staff and those in costume are 5 stars!
We visited and it’s a great place at Jamestown to see what it would have looked like. It’s not the real location as that’s at historic Jamestown a little further down. However, it gives you a realistic walk through. Also, the Revolutionary Museum is great. Do both. Fantastic history lessons.
AMAZING museum and settlement grounds that I highly recommend. The entry fees are a bargain for what you get out of the visit. All the staff are very friendly and engaging - lady in the front guided us to make the Christmas show that was to begin in the settlement grounds in a couple minutes, after which we spoke to multiple people playing native American characters who walked us through their way of life. There are a couple recreated ships that you can fully walk through and multiple huts that you can go through. The museum space is larger than the outside settlement grounds and VERY informative. I recommend that you watch the ~20 minute video in the theatre also, which pretty much summarizes the history. To cap our visit, we spotted 2 bald eagles perched atop a tree branch and spotted multiple cardinals in the woods.
