Discover where George Washington went to church in Alexandria. You can even sit in his pew.
We will pass by the Athenaeum as we walk down Prince Street and head toward Captain's Row. There is an abundance of fascinating sites along the 200 block of Prince Street. Beautiful homes that have stories dating back to the 18th century.

Excellent tour on a beautiful day in what was Alexandria D.C. Tim was very knowledgeable and interesting, providing information on key points of interest, architecture, and hidden gems. He had great historical background on the founding fathers and mothers and their experiences in Alexandria.
We had Eileen.. she provided a wonderful walking tour of Alexandria! She did a fabulous job bringing the history to life with her knowledge, interesting stories, and enthusiasm. We learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. She made our visit truly special!
A great tour with an awesome tour guide. Jeff is both knowledgeable and personable. I learned a few fun facts along the way.
I knew nothing about Alexandria when we arrived. Tim took us on a great adventure back in time on our tour. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this city - you can tell he truly loved living there. The walk was easy and went at a comfortable pace. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting this charming city.
Tim Rose was an excellent guide. Not only did we see the important sites but he had an excellent collection of photos, maps and documents to add to the visual. He was extremely knowledgeable about the connection to Alexandria but to the wider places as well.
Even though it was a misty cool day, we didn’t notice the weather because of the wealth of knowledge and fun our guide provided. We learned so much about George Washington and his love of Alexandria plus the beautiful architecture and streets and taverns and churches - I could go on. Don’t debate. Book thus tour!
Tim was very knowledgeable and well researched. Very interesting!
Tim was an excellent guide who was definitely into the history of Alexandria. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about Alexandria history as well as historical connections to DC, former presidents, and US History.
Friendly, knowledgeable guides…..a very good walking tour with a small group of interesting people. Plus a great suggestion for an early dinner!
Eileen was very knowledgeable personable and made sure that when she had a story to telll she made sure there was shade so that we wouldn’t get too warm and just made the tour a great experience
Jeff was our guide and he was great. We were a little late and he was very understanding about that. He was also very knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor, gave interesting facts, allowed questions, and took us to very interesting, historic places. We thoroughly enjoyed it and we would definitely book again!
takes you to the streets and places you wont find just wandering on your own. Friendly and informative!!
Evelyn guided through 3 museums masterfully hitting highlights and nuggets. I would have been oblivious to many key facts and objects. Do yourself and family a favor! (And you can go back on your own and dive deeper!)
Very interesting and informative tour. Possibly could have covered more sites and with a bit less talk
Definitely worth taking this tour. Our guide was very informative & pointed out many facts that we didn’t know about.
Enjoyable and informative. Tim was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable and personable.
Tim Rose, owner of Alexandria History Tours, took us on a great tour. He is very knowledgeable and patient and his tour was fun and educational. Highly recommended!

Wayne is both fun and interesting. We learned so many new things about the city history, George Washington, and others. Highly recommended.
Very interesting tour with a lot of history. Our tour guide was Jeff was so knowledgeable and showed us so many early pictures of buildings. The church had to be my favorite place. Just loved it!!
Very knowledgeable guide Considerate of the heat and always found shade
Our tour of Alexandria was charming, fun, and fascinating. Jeff was an excellent tour guide, keeping us in the shade, taking us through nearly-tangible historic events as we walked the same streets as Revolutionary patriots, the Founding Fathers, and Civil War soldiers. Old Town contains layers and layers of human experience; Jeff brought it to life with historic photos, fun trivia, terrific stories, and a stroll along the lovely streets of the city.
Tim Rose led us on a wonderfully informative tour of Alexandria. I have done a number of Alexandria tours before, and this was the best. Tim’s knowledge of the people and times that shaped the city is unmatched. His tour hits exactly the right pace and content. Highly recommend!
How lovely & knowledgeable our tour guide was❣️Being a Virginian, I thought I knew the historical facts about the area. Nevertheless, this local guide brought history to life with her accounts. Showing us visuals along the route added to our understanding of what a significant part the splendid Old Town Alexandria area played in history.
We started at a location that was easy to find - the visitor center - and the walking was pretty easy, so good for all ability levels! Our tour guide was wonderful - she really knew her US and Old Town history - from before the first European settlers arrive through Revolutionary and Civil Wars and to current day!
Highly recommend this walking tour of Old Town Alexandria! Tim was very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history of Alexandria. He was engaging, provided great stories, and we all learned so much from him. He also was extremely responsive to my emails and helpful with restaurant recommendations in the area. He is a great guy! Definitely one of the highlights of our DC trip!
Showed up late for this walking tour on a blustery morning in Alexandria. Our guide Tim caught us up and never missed a beat. He's full of historical anecdotes and brought the past alive. He added some time at the tour's end to show us additional sights. We ended in a perfect location for lunch in Alexandria's historical center.
Keith was very knowledgeable about the history of Alexandria and the civil war.
These folks are the reason you find the local tour companies. John was absolutely wonderful, navigating a group with mobility concerns and our chatty infant without a hitch, in the heat. Beyond his knowledge of the town and local background, he made sure everyone was comfortable, finding shade, and even rerouting the tour a block to make sure a group could make their bus and to toss in an extra story. We learned so much about the history of the town and the people who helped define it. A well rounded tour and spectacular guide. I would absolutely take another tour with this group. Hope to see you in Colorado one of these days, John!
I'm a local and enjoyed this tour as much as my friend from out of town. So informative. The pace was perfect for a hot virginia day. Tim showed us lots of quirky little things as well as the more well known sights. The tour was a great value. I loved Tim's knowledge and enthusiasm.
Tim was so informative & really knew the history of the buildings & the history of Alexandria. He made the tour interesting & engaged with all of us.
Tim was amazing! So knowledgeable and presented lots of interesting historical information in an non-intimidating fashion. Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time with our guide and in town. Our guide was Tim who was very informative and enthusiastic about the history here. I appreciate all the photos he shared from past centuries, which gave a better idea of life during that time.
John was our tour guide and he did a great job. He was very personable. He provided a lot of historical information that made the tour informative and enjoyable. He even took the extra step to show us to the restaurant we were planning to eat all m. Overall a great experience
Good pace. Intersecting sites.
Wayne was a brilliant guide .. if you can book on his tour you are guaranteed a wonderful trip
Wayne was a fabulous tour guide. The tour was well paced, very informative and also entertaining.
Great Tour and great guide! Would do again.
Our tour guide was great - he knew so many details about Alexandria and its history and shared just the right amount with us so we learned about the city without being drowned in too much info. He was very open to questions and shared also personal stories which made it much more lively than just hearing ‚on day xx this happened here‘. Most of the tour took place in the rain and in spite of it we all had a great time - I think that says a lot.
Our tour guide was AMAZING.. very knowledgeable & engaging, passionate about history and his beloved town of Alexandria!
Really enjoyed the tour. I learned a lot about Alexandria's history. It was not a lot of walking, in fact, we had a woman in a wheelchair and she did fine. I could have spent more time.
Totally worth the time! Lived here 25 years and this was a thorough and entertaining experience. So many facts and facets that I did not know, well woven together in great story telling. Eileen was excellent tour guide. We will look for more tours. :)
Great perspective on the founding of Alexandria and the key role played by George Washington in Alexandria's early beginnings. Also, important role Alexandria played as Civil War hospital center for the North.
It was informative and interesting. Our tour guide Jeff was very well prepared and easy to follow. He gave great details on the people, the history and the architecture. Low key and easy to walk.
Jeff was great, gave us so much interesting information about Alexandria in its younger days 😀 don’t hesitate, just book the tour!!
I am a repeat customer and from my experience Alexandria History Tours is the best way for visitors to familiarize themselves with historic Alexandria. The guides are personable and encourage questions. I loved that they pointed out interesting details about the major sites that are not covered in the guidebooks. This attention to historic detail extended to small and unusual things. Want to know the historic age of some of the houses’ rainwater gutter downspouts? How about the origin of some of the sidewalk bricks you’re walking on? Take the tour to find out!
Fantastic experience, would definitely recommend to out-of-towners and locals alike. Tim does a great job of pacing the stories with the locations and is clearly passionate about his craft.
Tour was outstanding. Tim is a wonderful host and great to work with . His guides provided our conference attendees an amazing experience and insight into the local history. Highly recommend for individuals or great for a local group activity for conference participants!!!
Our tour guide was very passionate and knowledgeable, as well as being a great storyteller.
