Thorsmork Super Jeep

It was fantastic tour. Our guide/driver was excellent. The team at base camp were wonderful. We would highly recommend this tour.

Our guide Carlos made the 6h trip verry funny and interesting. He gvae a lot of explanations abpout Iceland in general and of cource also about the Thorsmork area: vulcanos, nature, rivers, history, tales about trolls, etc. Thorsmork is a must to visit, it was definitely the highlight of our 2 week trip to Iceland. We always felt safe in the vehicle. I would not recomend to go by your own car. Ask for Carlos to be your guide when you book the trip at Midgard Adventure

The Super Jeep tour was great. We enjoyed the trip, the only bad part was the constant rain and wind. Midgard did a great job of setting us up for an active tour with great sites to see and experience.

My family of 4 recently booked a Þórsmörk Super Jeep Day Tour, paying about 140,000 ISK (roughly $1,200 USD at the time of purchase). Unfortunately for us, it was raining all night/day, causing rivers to rise, and thus we didn't make it past the second water crossing; our driver was not comfortable going any further. As a result, we turned around 45min into our 6 hour tour and instead of an f-road wilderness adventure, the remainder of our time was spent driving on basic roads, seeing sights we could have easily reached in our rental 4x4. I thought I was paying for the experience and access of a Super Jeep to places and sites I couldn't normally go to on my own, unfortunately that's not what I got. I understand weather in Iceland is unpredictable, but the complete lack of contingency planning is unacceptable. I'm glad they had safety as a priority, but this is Iceland, tour operators monitor river levels and road status constantly; we should have been warned in advance and given the option to reschedule, receive a partial refund, or pivot to a genuine alternative f-road adventure/route. Charging full price for a glorified road trip is completely unreasonable. We wasted our money and time that would have been better spent elsewhere (e.g. nearby hot springs or community pools). Warning to future travelers: If rain is anywhere in the forecast, cancel your booking immediately. Do not risk paying for a tour that will not deliver on its core promise.

Phenomenal and unforgettable. A must do. Sven was awesome. Wise, informative, and funny. The highlands are breathtaking.

Wow wow wow! Highlight of our trip to Iceland. With scenic stops every 20 minutes. All the men on our bus did the hike and the ladies went berry picking and walked along the river. It was a fantastic day. Highly recommend Midgard who met every need and Lilly our guide was just lovely and perfectly knowledgeable. I highly recommend this operator and tour. A +++++++++++++

The valley of Þórsmörk is a world hidden behind glacial rivers, where the earth feels raw, ancient, and entirely alive. Leaving the ring road behind, the journey begins the moment the tires of the super jeep hit the first rushing river. There is a tense thrill in crossing these rivers, watching the milky, silt-heavy water rise against the jeep, knowing that this river shifts its treacherous bed every single day. Once inside the valley, the harsh Icelandic winds suddenly drop, replaced by an unexpected oasis. Sheltered by three towering glaciers—Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull, and Tindfjallajökull—Þórsmörk holds its own microclimate. Here, low-slung downy birch forests carpet the valley floor, their emerald leaves contrasting sharply with the pitch-black volcanic soil. Hiking up for a higher perch, the perspective shifts entirely. Every step reveals the scars of the land: jagged moss-covered gorges, sharp ridges carved by ancient eruptions, and the massive, sprawling network of braided rivers winding through the black desert below. Up here, the air is so clean and I breathe more deeply, as if it’s the best air my lungs have experienced. The silence is immense, broken only by the distant, low rumble of melting ice and the crunch of volcanic gravel beneath your boots. As the afternoon light deepens, casting long, dramatic shadows across the peaks, a profound sense of isolation takes over. It is a place that makes you feel entirely insignificant, yet deeply connected to the pulse of the planet. To post this was my favorite day of the entire visit would be an understatement. Our small group of 12 was guided by @sveinn_valtyr , who shared the science behind the volcanoes and glaciers, some Sagas, Icelandic history while he sprinkled it with a little of his humor too. @midgardadventure is the tour operator, they are a family-run, Icelandic-owned business, utilizing local Icelandic guides. Their “jeeps” are comfortable and sturdy, a necessity for that terrain. I cannot recommend this company enough! Absolutely perfect day for me. The jeep tour was very interesting. We rode through many rivers in the back country, and our driver Liliya was friendly and competent. The lunch was tasty, and the view from the lunch spot was gorgeous.

Thorsmork is a wonderful place, and our guide Carlos was fantastic! He was interesting and fun, took us on great hikes (pretty easy ones) to beautiful places, while being very helpful and careful to make the hikes safe and doable. He shared his views on Iceland and told us about himself, making the drives fun.

Unique experience in a spectacular setting. I am so glad we went on this trip. The vehicle and driver took us to places we could not otherwise reach. Driver provided a lot of information about this location and others in Iceland. Perfect thing to do! Entire staff was helpful. The vehicles were in excellent shape. The office/departure lounge was comfortable and welcoming.

No way we would have been able to get to this park & the places we went due to all the river crossings. Midmark did the driving and the our guide was amazing! We stopped several times throughout the day, so it wasn't all sitting, thank goodness. This adventure was a highlight of our trip, and I'm really, really glad we were able to get back into Thorsmork due to the tour. Would totally book with this company again!

What a fantastic trip! The team at Midgard is thoroughly professional and the SuperJeep was Super Cool! My wife thought she would be afraid, but it was like riding on a cloud. Dory was a great guide/driver. Very experienced and knew exactly what stories to tell.

This was a highlight of our two week trip to Iceland. The scenery is simply stunning, and our guide, being a local Hvolsvollur-ian, was able to communicate so much of the local history and culture, it really elevated the experience. There were 2 planned hiking stops, but he threw in a third impromptu one related to the Game of Thrones TV series, as several of us on the tour were fans of the show. Consider this a 'must-do'.

It was an interesting tour, but the guide could have talked more about the region or Iceland. The stop at Seljalandsfoss should have been at the end of the tour and more time allotted to walk behind the falls. We got back to Midgard 45 minutes early so he could have shared more information or allotted more time for the moderately challenging hike. Thorsmork is a fascinating area to explore and the secret cave was especially interesting.

Our family of 4 (children - 14 and 11) had an amazing time on the super jeep tour. The tour takes you to such a beautiful part of Iceland with incredible views, scenery and some great hiking spots. Our guide (Simion) was outstanding. He told great stories, had a deep knowledge of the area and made the trip a ton of fun. We were lucky to have him as our guide. The trip exceeded our expectations.

I have never written a review, then again I have never had a guide like Alessandro from migrad adventure. What an amazing experience truly the highlight of our trip, he went out of his way to cater to our wishes and surpassed our expectations. We asked him to take the lead and we were not disappointed. Such passion and dedication to his work! Could not recomend him more! Amazing experience!!!

We enjoyed a scenic tour of the highlands with our tour guide Lillia. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. The scenery was incredible and it was so relaxing not to have to stress about crossing glacial rivers or navigating unfamiliar territory. Would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the southern highlands!

A great experience in the Icelandic highlands. Since we were traveling as a family I didn’t want to venture into the highlands on our own, this tour gave a great blend to experience the Super Jeep experience which is truly fun while also giving some time to explore the nature in the thorsmork park. The guide we had (Johan) was excellent and gave us great insights into the different aspects of the park

The most amazing experience on our 1st trip to Iceland. We had a truly unforgettable time & will recommend everyone who plans to visit! So thankful for your Team & dinner was excellent! Watching the Iceland Horses was the highlight of our trip.

We recently came back from a Super Jeep Tour through Thorsmork. It was great not having to navigate the area and to sit back and enjoy the scenery. Simeon was our guide. He had a great personality and did an excellent job making us feel welcome, informing us about iceland, its geology, and the areas we were seeing as well as navigating through the rivers and rough terrain. He answered all kinds of questions and provided tips for making the most of our stay in Iceland. Midguard has a nice basecamp where we were seamlessly checked in and treated to warm beverages before the tour. They also have a nice bar and restaurant area on premises. My only warning is that for seniors or those who might have some difficulty hiking up mountains or steading themselves on rocks, this tour may be a little tricky (i.e., more "moderate" than "easy") but if you're in average shape, you shouldn't have a problem.

Unforgettable memories made from with experienced staff and guides. My partner and I did the 4 day 3 night package and it was worth every penny! The group was just the right size and made the experience feel very personal. Midgard was everything and more than I hoped to experience. The lodging was so clean and staff that was the most kindest. The menu was very thought out and everything was delicious. The special cocktails felt very Icelandic, gin and roses… The guides loved their jobs and it showed with the tours. Each of the 3 guides went above and beyond, were very knowledgeable about each destination through the day. Great spots attract great people and the atmosphere at base camp was so welcoming. From a smooth pick up at KEV to the drop off at the Hotel in downtown Reykjavik.

We had a great tour with Midgard Thorsmork Super Jeep. The vehicle and driver were terrific at negotiating the very challenging terrain. Disco, the driver/guide did a wonderful job in explaining things and leading us on interesting hikes. All in all a great adventure and experience.

Ragnar was a great tour guide. He grew up in the area and knows it well. He was fun to be around. He planned awesome places to see. He has great communication and made our day extra special.

We had a Fantastic private super jeep tour on our first day in iceland. The trip was beautiful and our guide Markus was great. The scenery is constantly changing as the river changes course depending on the amount of water melting and coming down from the glaciers. The jeep was comfy despite the rocky terrain and the many river crossings. This is an area seldom seen by most tourists. We had a blast and would highly recommend this tour.

Hands down the highlight of our 15 day Iceland itinerary. Breathtaking views and amazing guide. I would have done all of Midgard’s tours if I had more time. I’d come back just to spend more time in the Highlands. Truly a remarkable place. Our guide, Simeon, was so knowledgeable and personable. Getting to base camp and checking in was a breeze. If you have time after the tour, I highly recommend eating at the restaurant as well. Had a tasty burger and fries!

We had an epic trip in Iceland and this excursion may have been the highlight among highlights. The local guide was excellent. He made some interesting stops on the way to break up the bumpy drive (F-roads are no joke). Each stop was unique, interesting and just the right amount of time. And the main event….an amazing short (but epic) hike up about 1k feet to a 360 view of the valley. The trail was well marked stairs almost straight up but it was worth the burn as the view from the top was truly out of this world. Pacing overall was great. And having a local handle the driving and stops was well worth the money for me and my teenage son. If you have serious mobility issues this may not be worth it but as long as you can make the climb….slow and steady for me with many many stops to catch breath and take in views…it’s truly an unforgettable experience

Thor's Valley is a rugged beautiful place - surreal. We did a private super jeep tour, making three stops for pictures / hikes, plus lunch at a backcountry base camp. Crossing rivers in a super jeep is an experience in and of itself. Our guide, Carlos, was excellent - informative, friendly, a self-described "open book", we learned a ton about not just Thor's Valley, but Iceland in general. We spent 2 1/2 weeks in Iceland and this was our favorite day. Highly recommend.

This was an excellent tour, with a professional guide. We had several stops, the last with an option to hike uphill (~400 m) for amazing views of the valley. Seven hours seem a lot, but time went really fast.

I am so glad I happened upon Midgard because our Super Jeep Tour with Carlos was a highlight of our entire trip! The weather wasn't exactly cooperating but Carlos took that under consideration and tweaked our adventure as the day unfolded. He was engaging, knowledgeable and just a ton of fun. We had a great day exploring the Thorsmork landscape and learning more about the geology and Iceland as a whole. It was a truly perfect adventure for our family capped off by a delicious dinner at the Midgard Restaurant. Highly recommend!

Great experience. Rivercrossings by jeep are fun. Beautiful caves, gorges and falls. Some hikes are challenging due to the river crossings by foot. We had rain which did not help. Our guide Carlos is very good. Knowledgeable, funny, and always in control. Highly recommended. The visit to the former glacier lake is unique.

We had a one-day Super Jeep tour into Thorsmork. The weather wasn't ideal (but not terrible), but it was beautiful nonetheless. Along the way, we also found a bunch of great spots to explore. Our guide had great information and lots of entertaining stories. Great company, check in was easy and the location was excellent.

Our family of five booked a private Super Jeep tour to explore Þórsmörk, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our Iceland adventure. Our guide, Valdi, was both entertaining and professional, keeping us engaged while ensuring everyone stayed safe throughout the day. Of the 14 days we spent in Iceland, the hike to the peak overlooking the valley was probably my favorite moment of the entire trip. It’s definitely a challenging climb—steep and fairly long—but the breathtaking views at the top make every step worthwhile. After the hike, Valdi had a fantastic BBQ waiting for us, complete with plenty of Appelsín for our three kids. Along the way, we stopped at several incredible canyons and other unique locations, including the famous “Elfin Church” rock. Icelandic folklore is fascinating and added an extra layer of magic to the experience. When we returned to base camp, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Since we were celebrating our son’s 16th birthday, the staff surprised us with a complimentary cake and birthday candle so we could sing Happy Birthday together. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. We were so impressed that we even tried to book another Super Jeep tour for the following day, though unfortunately it didn’t work out. Highly recommend this experience!

This tour was incredible! We had amazing weather as well which just added to the experience. Our guide, Simion, was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and made sure everyone was comfortable as well as providing an experience for the more adventurous ones. Don’t think, just book these to access some amazing areas!

We spent the day Simion and had an incredible tour. He was a great driver and very informative about the area and all of the sites . He was helpful and kept everyone safe when making crossings to see the waterfall . We would highly recommend. We would also recommend bringing all the gear including waterproof shoes .

We joined the Þórsmörk Hiking Day Tour with our guide, Valdi. Besides our family, only two other guests were on the tour, making it feel very personal. Valdi shared fascinating stories about Iceland as he expertly drove through rivers and rugged terrain. The hike itself was incredible, taking us to stunning viewpoints and a hidden canyon that felt like a secret corner of Iceland. This was our favorite days of the trip.

This was absolutely fabulous! Our guide, Jon Gisli, was wonderful. We took our college grad son and the super jeep tour was the highlight.

This was an absolutely amazing tour. Odie drove us through rivers to places we would never have seen otherwise. We hiked to breathtaking viewpoints and stunning scenery, as well as fascinating caves. Along the way, he also provided interesting geological information and anecdotes. I highly recommend this tour. Definitely 5 stars!

This was a fantastic trip with our guide Carlos. Not only did he choose excellent hikes but also he explained all the geological features around us , including all the rocks we found on the trail and to top it off he taught us some Icelandic. Highy recommended!
