We had a wonderful Þórsmörk Super Jeep tour with Tomas. The entire experience was fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable, with spectacular scenery and beautiful stops along the way. Tomas was highly professional, knowledgeable and very warm and friendly. He shared interesting information throughout the tour and was also a genuinely engaging conversationalist. It was a memorable day and one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. We would highly recommend both the tour and Tomas as a guide!

Our guide was a local and exceptional growing up in that area!!! We expected an open jeep and it was like a van that could cross streams. If you have any difficulty walking on uneven surfaces or going up and down paths, ask questions before you book. There are 4 hikes each about 45 minutes. Due to my age and surgery hasn’t been needed due to my activities, I only did 2 of 4 hikes.
We booked this tour through Arctic Adventures and had to meet near Hella as we were staying close to there. Siggi and his wife Linda were exceptional guides and very friendly and helpful. They took us to places you could only dream about. Our first stop was a pretty canyon and waterfall. You had to be a bit agile to make it to the hidden cave area but with a little help from Siggi my wife was able to make it. Our next stop was a short walk to the base of a huge glacier where the overflow reaches the valley floor. The 2010 eruption actually occurred under that glacier. A big part of the plume was steam from the melting ice. The flow of water from that event also flooded a small lagoon that existed at the base of the glacier and destroyed the one wall. That lagoon fully drained and doesn’t exist today. While we were there the ice cracked somewhere up the ice flow and made a loud booming sound like thunder. Our next stop was the volcano huts. This is a remote base camp for hikers and anyone exploring the Icelandic highlands. We took a trail that took us from the Langidalur campsite to the next camp, Thorsmork. We enjoyed a hot meal there as part of the tour. We got back in the bus and headed to the Stakkkholtsgja canyon. This hidden canyon is a 2km round trip. The footing is treacherous as it’s a layer of rocks between fist and head size and there are several stream crossings. At the end is a waterfall deep in the rocks which is truly spectacular. We highly recommend booking this tour.
We packed in 5 days of adventures and sights and this was our favorite experience, hands down. Our driver was friendly and informative while managing the rough terrain well. He encouraged us to sit up front and enjoy the gorgeous natural beauty. We were dropped off at the base in Langeidalur and hiked to the top (strenuous/steep but manageable for my husband and I - both 62). It is well worth it when you are treated to the vast breathtaking views. We hiked down and enjoyed a coffee in the Volcano huts while waiting for the bus to take us back. There is also light food available and the vibe is relaxed and accommodating.
Porsmork super jeep adventure was an awesome experience. Very comfortable 4x4 super jeep, incredible scenery, short walk to glacier where we witnessed two rock slides, easy optional uphill hike to amazing views, walk to canyons and caves, explore black beach with small boat wreck, delicious lunch of soup options and dessert. Best of all was our guide Baddi who was very knowledgeable, funny, friendly, open hearted and entertaining. Thank you for an amazing day.
Knowledgeable tour guide. Learned so much about Iceland. Gorgeous weather. Great lunch. Definitely worth the trip....adventure of a lifetime
These super jeep trips are amazing! These guys brought us to the vulcano huts (we were the only two guest at that moment, low season) and the jeep tour was great. Beautiful landscape and very friendly en flexibel drivers! Thank you so much for this adventurous experience.
Excellent tour in a Super Jeep, amazing scenery, wonderful hike with breath taking views, great food and fantastic guide!
This was one of our MOST memorable experiences for our family of 5 adults while in Iceland. Our guide, Hendrik, was so knowledgeable and maintained an excellent pace. He shared a number of stories about Iceland and its folklore. Our overall group size was about 12 or so, and we never felt rushed. We saw so many beautiful things! The ride across the many river crossings was so much fun. Walked up to a glacier - about 50 yards away or so - and then looked down on that same glacier after a phenomenal hike up to the top of Fimvorouhals trail with stunning 360degree views - including the valleys below and of Eyjafjallajokull as well. We hiked back down the other side to the Volcano Huts where we had a delicious lunch (included) of soups and other items. We reconnected with another part of our group that had opted for the shorter, less strenuous valley hike, and then back to the super jeep for more explorations, including one of the many Game of Thrones filming sites scattered across Iceland. This was an amazing day!!!
Fantastic tour! The hike was amazing! We saw a lot of the area. Lunch was great. Highly recommend it.
Thòrsmörk is absolutely amazing! You have access to parts of Iceland you would never see otherwise. Our guide was great, she led our group at our own pace. The lunch at Lava hut was also very good. Lamb or lentil soup with rice, bread, hummus, red curry or pesto. Forging the glacial rivers in the super jeep is a memory I will treasure.
I can’t say enough about this whole day adventure in the valley of the gods! Our guide, Sigi, is an enthusiastic and passionate advocate for Iceland and its natural wonders. He lead us to multiple short hikes to staggeringly beautiful spots. A great storyteller & host. The tour was largely away from tourist filled areas so we could really soak in the scenery.
What a fantastic trip. My husband, son (20) and I all thought this was our best day in Iceland in a week of great days. Hendrik, our guide, was brilliant with many interesting facts and stories to keep us entertained. The scenery was stunning and the hikes were rewarding with beautiful views and hidden waterfalls. Lunch was delicious too. I strongly recommend this company.
We had a fantastic time on this tour. Our guide and driver, Helgi, was funny, knowledgeable, great storyteller and clearly very experienced. He shared a lot of interesting facts and stories. Not just about Iceland’s nature, but also everyday life here, which gave the trip a personal touch. He even went out of his way (and got his feet wet!) to help my girlfriend cross the rivers safely. We saw truly beautiful places that we wouldn't have found on our own. Overall, it was a great experience and worth the money. Highly recommend!
My husband and I were so excited for this tour and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. Our driver/guide extraordinaire Jakob was so skilled and informative, he made the day so enjoyable. The drive in our super jeep across the highlands was an experience we will never forget, and we felt so safe with Jakob! We lucked out and had beautiful weather, enjoyed our hike and breathtaking views from the top. Our hike was around 45 min because of the time of year, but we loved every minute. Jakob also made lots of stops at waterfalls, caverns, etc. our photos don't do the scenery justice. Thank you for an unforgettable day Jakob!
My partner and I picked this trip out of the blue and had a fantastic time. Our guide Piggi was great, very knowledgable about the area but more importantly was passionate about the land and the special areas that he took us to. We felt honoured to have a local guide share what was so special to him, and as a result it felt really special for us. A short hike up the mountain to see the glacier and glacial lake was beautiful. We even saw an arctic fox near the cabins where we stopped for lunch! Piggi’s expertise with the 4WD was invaluable especially on some of the trickier river crossings.
We recently used Southcoast Adventures for two tours, booked through our hotel (Hotel Ranga). The tours were the Landmannalaugur super jeep tour, and the Thorsmork super jeep tour. The weather for both tours was quite challenging - for Landmannalaugur, an overnight snow followed by rain produced extremely challenging slushy conditions - the first route our guide (Ingemar) tried was inaccessible - even with super jeep, but he switched to a slightly longer route and got us there safely. Ingemar was very knowledgeable and focused on making our trip memorable. It turned out we were the only ones to make it to Landmannalaugur that day, and we enjoyed a private experience at the springs. The rhyolite scenery was amazing! The second tour was to Thorsmork on a super jeep. Once again we had challenging weather (heavy rain) but our guide (Elias) got us through safely, with lots of interesting knowledge about Iceland (we really loved the thirteen “Santa’s”!). Once again we were the only ones to get out to Thorsmork that morning, and it was an exciting trip. We were very fortunate that both tours ended up being private tours essentially since we were the only clients booked those days. Southcoast is very professional, and we highly recommend both them, and their guides Ingemar and Elias.
Most excellent adventure for a group/family with a range of hiking abilities!! The five hour Super-jeep tour dives past deep canyons, rugged washes, beautiful waterfalls and impressive glaciers with multiple stops to get out and explore. Hefty large-wheeled vehicles tackle imposing Thorsmork Valley road with a minimum of jarring vibration. At the end of the valley the rustic Lava Hut "cafe" served delicious soup-bread-cake lunch after a pleasant optional two(?)mile hike. Our guide (Elvar), personable and knowledgeable, patiently answered all my questions during the drive. Well worth every penny!!
This was without a doubt the best tour experience we had in Iceland. Biggi was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The other group cancelled so it wound up being a “private tour” with Biggi and by the end it felt like he was a family friend. He told us all about þorsmork and how it’s his favorite spot in Iceland and how his family travels out there each year. He showed us where he proposed to his wife and where they got married out there. The views were something I cannot put into words, truly stunning and unlike anything else. I will be not only recommending this tour to any friends/family who travel to Iceland but I will be insisting that it is a must do experience. Truly memorable and breathtaking. Thank you again to Biggi for being so amazing
Enjoyable day despite low cloud ceiling. Our family of 6 (teens aged 15-19) enjoyed our foray into Thorsmork on the 16 passenger super jeep. The entire day lasted about 7 hours. We enjoyed a relatively smooth ride on the lava gravel roads (or lack of road), crossing rivers as we went. We had a few brief hikes/walks along the way into Thorsmork--exploring a canyon, listening to stories about Icelandic Trolls and spotting them in the rocks as we went. After a few stops we arrived at huts/base camp managed by Icelandic Hiking group and had three options: a short 20-30 minute flat hike through a valley, a 1+ hour hike up the peak and down, or staying in the jeep and driving around...all meeting at a comfy hut and restaurant on the other side for our delicious lunch of soup, bread, hummus, pesto, desserts. Our family split up on the 2 hikes. It was a cloudy day with light drizzle at times so we had no view at the top of the peak, but I'm sure it was beautiful since it was clearly a nice vantage point for the valley. It was a moderately strenuous hike up, but we did it in less than 30 minutes, and then had a nice hike down the other side. 3 of our kids took the flat trip through the valley and reached lunch in about 25 minutes. After lunch we were back in the jeep and had one more stop--hiking into a canyon along the river bed and then crossing the stream (on foot) and ducking into this narrow side canyon with a beautiful hidden waterfall. Total hiking for the day was about 4.5 miles, spread across the various stops. Overall it was a nice adventure. Our guide was friendly and informative.
What a fun adventure in Thorsmork with our guide Khari (hope I am spelling correctly). Although originally from Norway she clearly loves nature and Iceland. We were in a small group and we had a great time immersing ourselves in the beauty of Thorsmork as a guest. So much fun crossing the glacier rivers and streams in the jeep on our way to four magnificent stops - one short walk to a tongue glacier, another hike to the top of a 360 degree peak overlooking the valley, a canyon hike to a secret waterfall ( the highlight) and another smaller canyon hike to a waterfall. What we appreciated about the guide is that she customized to our groups interests and abilities making sure we had a great experience. This was a very memorable day in large part to the guides approach and love for this area.
We took this tour expecting great adventure and that totally meet our expectations. Iceland is beautiful no doubt in that. But to see real beauty you have to go inland. Our guide Robert was really something. Driving through that rigid diverse landscape and crossing the river was for him like nothing, and half of the fun was getting there. Thorsmork , simply beyond beautiful , highly recommend. No such a place anywhere else. Thank you Robert for sharing all that with us, and all the stories and information, we will be forever grateful. He is obviously very very fit guy who’s got outdoor and these mountains in his blood. Selma and Zdenko
This tour was the high point of my trip to Iceland. Not only was the super jeep ride to Thorsmork filled with spectacular views of canyons and glaciers, but it offered two hikes that were both exhilarating and challenging in places. Siggi, our guide, was not just funny but inspiring.
Our tour to Thorsmork was amazing!!! Our guide Atli was fantastic. He took us to so many unique places we would have never been able to see by ourselves. He was super knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, while showing us more than we could have ever hoped for. The weather was rainy and foggy and it didn't even matter- it was easily the best day of our trip so far. Would 100% recommend to anyone.
We had a wonderful day exploring Thorsmork by Super Jeep with our guide, Siggi! We completed a beautiful hike, explored a canyon, saw a glacier up close, and even hiked a cave. Each view was more stunning than the last, the super Jeep was so fun to ride in, and Siggi was an outstanding guide. We learned so much about Iceland and had the most fun day!!! Our only regret is that we only had enough time for one excursion. We will for sure be back and can’t wait to try another of their adventures!!!
This was, without a doubt, the best part of our trip! My husband and I had so much fun on this tour and cannot recommend it enough! Loved taking the super jeep through the rough terrain and water. That alone was an experience, but the jeep got us to some absolutely incredible views that we would never have gotten to see otherwise. Our driver, our tour guide, the MVP of the day- ERIK- was amazing! Truly, he was so friendly and patient and he spent so much time with us. Of course he knew a lot about the area, but he was able to show us pictures of how much the terrain had changed over the past few months/years from earthquakes and weather and such (very cool). He was super knowledgeable and we really enjoyed spending the day with him! As for the hikes- Erik knows all the cool spots! We had a small, fit group and were able to hike to the top of a mountain and the views were breath taking. He also took us through a valley/gorge area and across some streams where our waterproof shoes/boots were put to the test. We only needed to use the (provided) crampons once… I’m pretty clumsy so I was a little nervous but he guided us effortlessly through the whole thing! It was totally worth it. Don’t miss out, book your super jeep now. I don’t know if you can request guides, but Erik’s your man :)
We had a fantastic tour with Robert. We went on a snowy day, bit still had an opportunity to hike and see some amazing sites. Thorsmork is absolutely amazing.
The trip was amazing! A full day experience with a professional and very knowledgeable guide. Spectacular views and scenery! The tour includes some great hikes. We enjoyed a nice lunch.
Our guide Siggy was knowledgeable and inspirational. His love for Iceland and appreciation of nature was clear throughout our journey with him. When we come back, we will definitely book this trip again! Porsmork is an astonishingly beautiful place. This day was one of the highlights of our week.
A great experience being driven along glacial moraine with river crossings in a multipassenger super jeep. Spectacular scenery at each of several stops, with a wonderful hike and lunch included. Truly special. Our guide Margaret was a tour guide exceptionale!
We had such an incredible day touring the magnificent Thorsmork area with Southcoast Adventures! Our guide Stefan was so warm, friendly, and fun! He expertly navigated us over rough terrain and through many river crossings in our Super Jeep into one of the most beautiful areas in all of Iceland. I loved the small group size - besides our family of 3 there were only 7 other people. Stefan made sure everyone in our group was comfortable and had options based on their level of fitness. We made four different stops, including a short walk to a glacier overlook, a longer stop for a choice of easy or more difficult (the one we chose) hike up Valahnuker (absolutely incredible views), another stop at a mountain hut for a delicious lunch of pizza, pasta and soup, and then finally a short hike in the beautiful Stakkholtsgjá Canyon. The scenery throughout the journey was breathtaking, and Stefan shared so much great information and kept us entertained with many Icelandic stories. This tour was definitely a highlight of our 9 day trip around the Ring Road - we are so thankful we were able to do this tour with Stefan! I’d also like to say the office was very responsive and helpful when I had trouble with booking on the website - Ana got right back with me and went ahead and set everything up for us. Southcoast Adventures is a top notch operation - will definitely use them for future adventures in Iceland!
A great day in Thorsmork with our guide Ingvar. We saw glaciers, waterfalls and climbed a mountain for fantastic 360 degree views. Enjoyed a relaxed lunch in a cosy hut where we had a chance to get to know our guide and travelling companions a little more. A real highlight of our trip and a taste of Icelandic wilderness and great hospitality.
Our guide is knowledgeable and fun! Really passionate and patient. My mom and I had so much fun that day, thanks for the team!
Perfect day in Thorsmork, thanks to Petra our guide for the great experience! Impressive river crossing, impressive views and wonderful lunch after hiking!
We loved the tour, this was one of our favorite experiences in Iceland! Our guide G was so friendly and knowledgeable and taught us so much about Thorsmork and Iceland. Thorsmork itself is beautiful and shouldn’t be missed, I do not recommend trying to go with a car, so this tour is ideal.
Margaret picked us up in a huge Jeep. Absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Hiking was wonderful. We were fortunate for good weather. She is an incredible guide with a wealth of experience, confidence, humor and information. Class act. Would totally do it again!
We had initially booked a trip on the volcano which didn't go through due to stormy conditions and a grim forecast. We were offered the Thorsmork tour instead which was amazing. We were picked up by our guide for the day, which was Skúli. Skúli was an amazing driver and guide, extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area and Iceland in general. He tailored the tour to the poor weather conditions and showed us around the area and the incredible sights it offers. Highly recommend this one and big thanks to Skúli to make it an amazing day !
We had a superb day with Siggi who really was a fantastic guide. Great driver, funny, lots of useful information and made the whole thing such fun. Scenery was fantastic and we did some great hiking. Memorable trip - highly recommended,
Skuli was a great tour guide around the beautiful landscape. With so much knowledge he’s sure to have an answer. The tour shows you some of the most amazing sites and views in Þórsmörk.
Siggi was the man! He tailored the hiking options and stops to our interests and ability level, so we got a maximal experience. He was passionate and knowledgeable (studied geology) and enthusiastic. If we even make it back to Iceland we will definitely do another tour with him and this company! The hikes themselves were beautiful. Really cool waterfalls, canyons, rock formations, etc. And the super jeep was very comfortable and fun.
We went on two tours with Southcoast Adventures. The first, a SuperJeep tour to Thorsmork with Margret, the second a private South Coast tour and Ice Cave tour with Ingvar. The tours were the highlight of our trip. Margret and Ingvar were both fantastic guides - knowledgable, engaging, and skilled at navigating across the rivers and up the steep hills. The November weather cooperated both days allowing for amazing vistas from atop Valahnukur in Thorsmork and along the south coast. South Coast Adventures exceeded our expectations with their outstanding service and guides. We will use them again when we return to Iceland.
This was definitely one of the highlights, if not our favorite part, of our week long trip through Iceland. Skúli was out guide and driver. He was very knowledgeable of the area having grown up hiking and exploring all over Iceland. We felt well guided the whole time and he keeps you informed and laughing. He was very easy going and you could participate in the hiking and more treacherous parts as much or as little as you wanted. The group we went with was a good size, no more than 7 other people, and everyone was very nice. Dress for the weather and you'll have a great time with great sights and views you probably wouldn't be able to get to or find without Skúli and a super jeep!
Our guide, Stefan, was an excellent driver. It had been raining like crazy that day, and the road was so flooded that you couldn't even see it at times. He navigated us through it really well! It was quite the adventure just getting to Thorsmork. The lunch was also very good. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do the main hike because of the weather - I wish we could have known about this before so we could reschedule or cancel, but I know these judgment calls can be hard to make. All in all, weather aside, it was a good experience!
I had a great time on this tour. The guide was knowledgable and very skilled in driving across rivers. We got to see a lot and to hike. The lunch stop was very delicious. They picked me up from Skogar with no extra fee.
Skuli was our guide, who took us to the what he called “the real iceland”. He took us with the superjeep to pórsmörk and offered facts and stories about the highland of iceland. Since he grew up hiking and motorbiking in the area since he was a kid he knew the area by heart. we felt well guided and has a lot of fun :) First we visitted one of the glaciers. after hiking up Valahnúkur we had lunch at one of the huts in Húsadalur. Then we countinues visiting Skakkholtsgjá and hiked all the way up to the waterfall at the end of the canyon. Last but not least we were able to enjoy adventerous hike in the canyon of Nauthúsagil. A perfect mix out of hiking, breathtaking scenery and well guiding skills. Thank you Skuli!!
Our day in Thorsmork with guide, Alberto Marini, was one of the best days we’ve ever experienced on any vacation! He was extraordinary on every level. Alberto enthusiastically led us over rivers, up to a glacier, through canyons and valleys, up close with waterfalls, and on mountain hikes to incredible views. With his expertise and talent, we learned about Icelandic landscapes, history, traditions and more. Typically, we plan such excursions ourselves but to this expansive and rugged area, we knew we could never fully put all of the pieces together for a day trip. Over 8 hours together, our magical day to this mindboggling beautiful area will long be remembered.
I really enjoyed this tour. It includes 3 short hikes. 1 to a viewpoint, 1 to the next valley where we stop for lunch and 1 in thorsmork valley. (Good lamb soup and bread!) I felt the thorsmork valley part was a little short. I would have liked to have spent more time in thorsmork valley. I think it was cut short because we has some people in the group who had a hard time walking on the unstable rocky ground. :( The river crossings were cool. I wish the rivers were deeper but the driver explained there hadnt been much rain recently so the levels were a little low. But it was still pretty cool! Our driver was really good at explaining things and was very helpful. Excellent tour. I took off 1 star because i wish we spent more time in the actual thorsmork valley. It was very beautiful.
Our car broke down so that was a slight issue and our guide didn’t do much talking/guiding. The hike and views were great though and we couldn’t have gotten to those locations with our rental car.
We didn’t really know what to expect about this trip but it really was the most exciting and enjoyable day. Our guide Magnus was fantastic. So knowledgeable and happy to be flexible about letting us spend more or less time at our stops. First stop was through the sand dunes off road to a spectacular black beach. Absolutely beautiful. Then onto see the edge of a glacier and to see what happened in the volcanic explosion in 2010. So interesting and amazing to walk around on the bank of a now disappeared glacial lake. I already felt like this was a trip worth doing - but there was more. We continued off road through rivers and snow to a beautiful slot canyon and then went to the volcano huts for lunch (I definitely want to go back in the summer!). And then a wonderful hike through the snow and ice to a secluded waterfall - just fantastic. We came back stopping at the large waterfall - Seljalandsfoss- spectacular. And here we had as much time as we wanted to explore - unlike other superjeep tours where we felt very rushed. This was an amazing day - I really felt close to nature and we weren’t rushed at all. I am looking forward to our next trip to Iceland to explore it more and would definitely recommend this company
We originally were planning to go horseback riding 10/15, but the weather was overcast so we booked this tour last minute to see this beautiful area by Jeep. There were some awesome short hikes with great views. Lunch was perfect with lamb stew after a windy hike. Our tour guide, Magnus, was a lot of fun and it was just us and another couple. I would highly recommend this tour. Also we left our camera in the jeep after and Magnus was kind enough to call to our hotel that we mentioned we were staying at next to let us know AND then he dropped it off for us that night (an hour away!). It was really above and beyond. Such a nice guy! Thank you again!
