Itinerary
Begin your adventure at Sólheimajökull Base Camp, where your certified glacier guide will outfit you with crampons, helmet, harness, and an ice axe. After a full safety briefing, you’ll take a short walk to the glacier and step onto this spectacular frozen world. During the guided hike, you’ll explore dramatic ice formations, deep crevasses, and vibrant shades of glacier ice — from crystal clear to deep blue. Your guide will share fascinating stories about how glaciers form, move, and interact with Iceland’s volcanic landscape, as well as the effects of climate change on these icy giants. This moderate glacier walk is designed for beginners — no technical skills needed. With plenty of photo stops and a relaxed pace, it’s the perfect way to safely experience one of Iceland’s most beautiful and accessible glaciers up close.

The trek was physically challenging at times, but beautiful views & the knowledge learned made it well worth the effort. Would highly recommend!
Excellent tour of the glacier today, including expert and clear explanation of the geologic and environmental conditions and a short rappel into one of the crevasses. Moderate level hike but the guide was fantastic and the experience one of a kind.
We had a great time on the hike and thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed genuine concern for our safety and well-being throughout the hike. She was passionate about teaching us about the glacier and its history. We highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Iceland who is looking for a unique and breathtaking way to experience one of Iceland’s wonders.
Loved the experience. Our guide Denis Rosa did a fantastic job of making it fun, unforgettable and kept everyone safe. He went above and beyond to make the experience special for our group.
Igla was our guide. She is perfect for this role: friendly, thoughtful, careful, curious, interesting. She made sure we all could handle the trek. Gave us tips to make the crampons work on the glacier, showed us many moulons and took pictures of all of us when we asked. I would recommend Igla and this company for the glacier hike. The highlight of our trip, and an outing we’ll talk about for a long time!
This was an amazing hike! We learned so much about glaciers from our tour guide, Dennis. The scenery was breathtaking! You have to do this tour if you come to Iceland.
That was an unforgettable hike with our excellent guide Christophe.
An incredible group, unforgettable trip, and a knowledgable and friendly guide, Gunnar! Could not recommend it enough... if you're reading this, book the trip.
I couldn't have asked for a better experience hiking the Laugavegur Trail with Gunnar Hall leading our pack. Gunni the Guide led with humor, safety, and superior knowledge. We were laughing the whole way through! Gunnar had clear expertise in the terrain and so much great knowledge on Iceland, the trial and history that he shared throughout. It was a truly magical experience that I would recommend to anyone!
Excellent, must do experience! Hiking on the glacier was like being on another planet! Very unique, amazing views, and great info provided by our expert guide.
We did this hike with an excellent guide. Denis Rosa led the way up the glacier and we saw some pretty incredible things. The glacier was uncrowded and we had a small group which was really special. Highly recommend recommended.
The Solheimajokull Glacier Hike was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. We were lucky enough to have phenomenal weather, and our tour guide Franco truly went out of his way to make our experience unique and memorable! My friends and I all agreed the four hour trip was the perfect amount of time to experience the glacier, ask lots of questions, enjoy the hike, and take photos without feeling rushed. Our group was 13 people, which was a fantastic size to still get one-on-one time and ask plenty of questions without feeling lost in the crowd. The hike itself still felt like a good workout, so make sure you are ready for a steep incline/descent. I absolutely would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland as it was truly unique and one of the highlights of our trip! Shoutout Franco for being such an incredible guide and making our trip so memorable!
Thank you Elisa for a fantastic tour! I really appreciated being able to learn so much about the glaciers and take the hike at our pace.
We booked the Glacier Discovery. Tour was great. Very well organized. I felt safe and taken care of. Views were incredible. It was a unique experience I will always remember. Geert M was our guide and he was wonderful- knowledgeable, kind, and made me feel safe. I will be recommending the tour to my friends who visit Iceland! It was 4 hours long, started and ended on time.
An unforgettable glacier hike and an experience unlike anything I’ve ever done before! The views were absolutely amazing, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, strong, and supportive throughout the hike. The hike was slightly challenging, especially with the rain, but that made the experience even more memorable. If you’re going, definitely bring good waterproof rain gear—and make sure to cover your backpack! Despite the rain, we absolutely loved our hike and would highly recommend this unique experience
My fiance and I had a great time! Our tour guide Leo was fun and knowledgeable about the glacier and its history. He explained how to use the equipment so we felt confident navigating the rough terrain. He even gave us some recommendations for food, hikes, and camping and took excellent pictures of us. The company prioritizes safety and frequently reroutes for the changing conditions and keeps groups small to make it safe for visitors. This was a highlight of our visit and we'd highly recommend this experience. When and if we visit again we'll be sure to go back on this hike.
I went on an early 0900 hike. It was the only time slot open but honestly it worked out so well. The tour guide takes you in a beautiful hike to the glacier. The hike is beautiful where you get to experience valleys full of moss and berries, creeks and waterfalls. After we made it to the glacier and our tour guide named Ekla was such a great leader, adventurer, full of enthusiasm and just overall made the experience so amazing. From tips on how to walk with crampons, to taking us far into the glacier hike, to giving us information about Iceland and its history, it was just so good!! Highly recommend early hike because when our group was heading back there were a lot of people in the trail and glacier
What an amazing experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable and took good care of everyone in our group.
This one already has great enthusiasm. I’d just polish it while keeping it sounding like you: Amazing, amazing experience! Our guide was absolutely fantastic. She was high-energy, knowledgeable, and paid great attention to safety throughout the entire tour. I especially appreciated that she gave everyone an opportunity to assess whether they felt comfortable continuing before we got too far into the experience. She made it clear that there was absolutely no pressure to continue if anyone felt they were in over their head, and even assured us that anyone who decided not to continue would receive a refund. I thought that was incredibly professional and showed that safety genuinely came first. The tour was also very educational, and our guide made the whole experience fun from beginning to end. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Best tour I’ve done in Iceland so far!
Our guide Michal shared a lot of fascinating information about the history and geology of the terrain. He also did a great job pacing the hikes to accommodate everyone in the group.
We had an amazing time on the glacier with our guide Leo Rossignol! I don't know that one gets the opportunity to walk on the face of a glacier all that often, so we wanted to seize the opportunity - and our experience was wonderful. With the increased rate of glacial melting, the previous route has melted away and become unstable, so we took a new hike up to the glacier that they've only just begun toward the end of July 2026 - the route is somewhat of a hike but more than worth it (my wife and I are relatively active and in our low 30s so it wasn't difficult, but for context we walked about 3.5 miles total and had about 1100 feet of elevation change over the course of ~3hrs, from start to finish). They definitely are explicit about the new changes before you get started, but we always felt very safe and I think if you're up for a bit of a hike then you will find the views worth your while. Leo was great, because we were in a small, able-bodied group, he took us a little higher up on the glacier so that we could get better views of the ice cap and lake at the bottom of the glacier tongue. We were his second group of the day and he was still energetic and excited to both show and explain everything he could about the glacier! Side notes: there were other groups that navigated the glacier just fine with capable and responsible children. Icelandia also gave us proper hiking boots as our boots did not provide adequate ankle support. There are also restrooms on site at the base camp that you can access for free once you check in (they were maybe 300 Kr if you didn't get the bathroom ticket from the check-in office prior).
Leo Rossignol was a great tour guide! Thank you, Leo!
This was an amazing experience and we got to see things we never could have otherwise. Our guide was an experienced mountaineer and we appreciated her safety standards, experience and vast knowledge of the glacier. Everyone in the family said it was the best outing we did!!
We went on a Guide Tour with Elisa Inger Jonsdóttir and it was amazing. The glacier itself is breathtaking and the guided tour with Elisa braucht it to another level. He guided us around the mountain and we walked around the glacier while he was telling us insightful facts about this very special piece of nature. I would 100% recommend this tour, especially with Elisa.
I had the best ever trip my the guide Elísa Inger Jónsdóttir. Very interesting and explained everything in the tour. Would recommend 100%
Fantastic experience The tour was changed to a more demanding hike due to glacier changes and the company did a good job communicating the changed This was a solid 4 hours of hiking with steep hills but so worth the effort. The guide was fantastic charming, funny ,careful and knowledgeable Highly recommended
This was an amazing experience! Our guide was really great at keeping everyone safe and walking us through the steps of using our gear. Being on the glacier was a really special experience we’ll always remember.
We had a beautiful experience with Leo Rossignol on the glacier hike! He was informative and fun and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and even drank water out of the glacier!
The Glacier Hike was a great experience. This was my 16 year old son's favorite thing we did on our trip. Leo was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot and showed us some really neat things. I would say you want to be in somewhat decent shape to do this activity. It's not hard but you are walking quite a bit. I'm really glad I booked this tour, especially the small group tour, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Many of the tours I saw on the glacier had a lot more people than our group. It was nice having a smaller group.
Fantastic experience. They made sure we were safe. Our guide OSKAR was awesome. We got to see a valley in the ice, he guided us expertly. There was a lot of education as well, so we learned about glaciers.
We did the 4 hour glacier exploration tour at Solheimajökull. Our guide Geert was really great. He explained everything very well and with his great sense of humor he made us feel comfortable all the time. We can just highly recommend to go with Geert as he did a great job.
Incredible experience...despite the rain, wind, and cold, our guide, Bart. Made it an amazing trip. I would considerate a moderate level, but doable as the pace ensures everyone is comfortable. Its about a 15-20 minute walk to the glacier and then you climb, but not difficult. From the time you check in, get your equipment, and start the trek. Bart made it easy for all. We had a fantastic time and never felt rushed as we climbed so many groups were coming down. We were the last group of the day and had the entire glacier to ourselves the last 30 minutes. This is a must do!!!
We had an awesome tour with Dennis! Really enjoyed hiking on the glacier, really the coolest experience. The meeting point was easy to find, parking was close by, and they had restrooms at the meeting point. Definitely recommend!
Hiked the melting glacier with Swedish guide Eric Sovie. His directions were slow and clear. He took the extra time necessary to help my wife across the glacier. I felt very safe and protected under his guidance. We really enjoyed the experience. Come see it before it's gone. This finger glacier is half is size from 15 years ago. There is now a lagoon where the frozen exit one stood.
That Dennis was an awesome guide. He knew so much about the glacier and made it very interesting and not just walking around.
Wonderful experience. We wanted to spend some time on the glacier and I feel like this trip helped us see many different parts. We learned a lot. The guide was great and patient with anyone who needed more help on the ice. All the staff were welcoming
We had a BLAST. Couldn’t have had better weather and our guide was phenomenal. Elisa was incredibly informed and knowledgeable, answering questions and sharing facts about the area and glaciers in general. The trek was easy enough for beginners I would say. They allowed us to leave a bag at the desk since we brought layers of clothes to make sure we were comfortable; luckily we ended up not needing them. The temperatures do fluctuate a lot (we went in July) so keep that in mind for comfortability. Hopefully the glacier will still be here for more people to experience for a long time.
What an amazing experience. Eric was a great tour guide and ensured the group had a great time and learned about the glaciers of Iceland. One of the highlights of our trip to Iceland.
This glacier hike was the highlight of our 10-day trip! (We took many beautiful waterfall, glacier, ocean and mountain View hikes - everyone agreed this one was our favorite. Two adults, two teens.) Eric was our tour guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Walking with the krampons was easier than we thought. We were in a small group. Eric paused and gave us information at several spots along the way, which also gave everyone in the group time to take a quick rest and take in all the sights, and take photos. We felt safe and in good hands with Eric. So much fun! Thank you for creating wonderful family glacier hiking memories for us. Tips: Make sure you wear tall hiking boots that cover your ankles or you will have to rent a pair. Make sure to bring gloves even if it’s not very cold to protect your hands in case you fall. (We did not fall, but were warned that the ice with lava rock imbedded can scrap like sandpaper, thus strongly advised to wear gloves). Wear layers. We hiked on a nice partly sunny day in the 50s (F) in late June wearing fleece-lined water-resistant hiking pants and a lightweight long-sleeve base layer sunscreen top, lightweight merino wool jacket, lightweight puffer vest, and ear headband covers. We were plenty warm. I shed the puffer vest and ear band layers by the end. Our day back packs included wind/rain coats and pants in case we needed it. My waterproof hiking boots are not ankle covering so I had to rent theirs- theirs were very comfortable. They gave each of us 1 coupon to use their bathrooms, otherwise they are expensive pay bathrooms.
I did have double luck, my guide was very good and tiks me a lot not only about glacier and National park but life un Iceland general. And sunny weather let find wonderfool fresh ice caves
This is a must do if you are in Iceland! Dennis, our guide, was so knowledgeable and made our experience feel very personal. We hiked at an easy pace and I never felt rushed. We saw a lot of the Glacier, we were able to explore an ice cave and do some easy repelling. It was one of my favorite things we experienced in Iceland.
Great hiking experience tour on the glacier. Eric, our tour guide, was great at keeping a good pace for the whole group. We were kept very safe while also going down into an ice cavern. We highly recommend as you will have amazing photographs and never forget this experience.
An unforgettable experience! Our guide Michele was incredibly knowledgeable, shared fascinating stories, and made the glacier come alive with his passion and expertise. The whole tour was both educational and exciting. One of the highlights of our trip to Iceland – highly recommended!
The experience was amazing and Michele was the best Tourguide !!!! I totally recommend it !!!
Denis was our guide for the afternoon. He was an amazing guide and was so knowledgeable about the glacier and its history. We had a partially planned path to get on the glacier, but then had some time to have some guided exploration, seeing different features. We got some experience with the crampons and pickaxes. The entire tour and experience was so incredible. I highly recommend this experience!
The instructor was very dedicated to guiding us. I'm so sorry my wife lost her phone during the trip, which caused delays, but thankfully we were able to find it in the end.
Such a cool and unique experience. Our guide Denis was so kind and knowledgeable, and provided a lot of information about glaciers. We felt very safe. Definitely would do this again!
Such a fun hike and Denis was a great guide!
The weather was miserable but we still had a great time! Our guide, Jordy, was so cool and made the experience fun with plenty of facts, anecdotes, and stories. 10/10!
