We were ten minutes late and they left without us. No refunds and they would not reschedule us. Lame.

My friend and I decided to do an excursion last minute and the glacier tour was a perfect choice in terms of value and time. We were heading to Vik and met them at the base of the glacier. I was a bit nervous because I had not packed to do an excursion like this, but I was able to rent hiking boots and waterproof pants, which was great. They provide a helmet, crampons, and an ice pick. They also have you in a harness in case of any emergencies. Our tour guides, Mika and Beda, were great. We had a lot of fun on the tour with Beda, and it was fascinating to be on the glacier. I had heard how dangerous glaciers could be if you go unguided. I never felt unsafe on the tour, but it was fascinating to see the potential for danger in the crevasses and unexpectedly deep water pits. The hike to the glacier was beautiful, but unfortunate, because it highlighted how much it had receded. Highly recommend this experience.
Svenbjorn was a very good guide. Enjoyed it a lot
Wow!! Amazing experience. The guide, Pedro, was really kind and friendly. Highly recommended!
Amazing experience!! The landscape’s breathtaking and our guide Pedro was very nice and professional! Would recommend to anyone
Mika is an awesome guide and we thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience! We felt safe the entire time and learned so much. Highly recommend Troll Expeditions and especially Mika!
Such an amazing adventure!!! Not going to lie when I was given crampons, an ice axe, helmet, and harness, I was like woah…. WHAT have I signed up for….😁….. but I DID IT!!!! Nate our guide was phenomenal. He led a group of 12 to the top like a true pro. Due to some weather changes the original route was altered and we had to hike around the back of the mountain. Nate was a very knowledgeable guide and talked to us the entire way there and back. I stayed close behind him because it was my/our first glacier hike. At the top it was breathtaking. Totally worth it!!! Highly recommend this hike.
We joined the glacier hike tour on 18 July and found the experience extremely fantastic! Our Guide Georgie was super nice, patient, attentive and helpful. He was very knowledgeable and took good care of the whole group. He was very caring to encourage us to stay calm and keep on when we felt nervous in the beginning. Huge thanks to Georgie for being such a professional and helpful guide, we can’t wait to meet him again soon!
The entire experience was amazing. The two guides, Bea and Georgie were incredible and extremely knowledgeable. They were very patient with one person in our group that did not speak any English, and helped them along the way without disrupting the experience for anyone. Drinking fresh, running glacier water was out of this world. Great tour and highly recommended.
So much fun! Anna and Nate were great guides and very informative. Scenery was amazing. Highly recommend!
This is an amazing adventure in a beautiful location. We received fascinating information about the glacier and the experience was super fun and felt really safe.
Really cool experience and definitely made for great photos! Our guide Lorenzo was very knowledgeable and insightful. Highly recommend!
My expierence was more that great. Our leader Elena was super nice and very helpfull, yet she provides all care and folkowed safety protocols. If we got a chance, we will be back.
Brilliant experience, so glad we did it. Per, our guide was funny and knowledgable and read the group so well, to ensure everyone enjoyed it. Reasonable level of fitness / mobility needed, but nothing too strenuous. The three hours went so quickly!
We went on a 3 hour glacier hike with Annie. She was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We would highly recommend this tour. The views were spectacular and it was accessible and interestingly for all the family (our kids are 10 and 12).
Absolutely fantastic. Such a unique experience. The guide was great, informative and really added to the experience. The glacier itself was such an incredible experience. The group was small and while there were others in the glacier we were alone and just able to enjoy the experience without it feeling touristy.
You nees to be a little bit in shape to do this. Really fun experience. The guide was friendly and answered every question
Incredible day - perfect sunset on the glacier - great guides - second time on this glacier was even better. Awesome for teens
This was first time in doing hiking on glacier it was just out of this world a big shout out to the guide Sylvia she was very knowledgeable guide and amazing person as well 😁
Anna was an excellent guide. She was patient and kind, and I felt safe while having an amazing time!!
The hike was led by experienced guides who have been doing this for many years. They were supportive in donning and doffing the equipment. Skill level easy to me and I’m an active senior. A must do when the weather is good 👍
Amazing trek across and around the glacier! So glad we included this experience in our Iceland trip!!
We were disappointed as experienced UK hikers to have to do the “easy” hike but this was only due to booking availability. Even though this was deemed an easy hike it is still shocking to see the idiocy of some tourists who think glacier hiking is a suitable place to show off their newest Nike Air Maxs. Unfortunately as with many spots this impacted our experience by delaying the group getting started and then the overall ground covered and experiences that could be had. The guide was very professional with the group but because of the above had to limit the walk to the “weakest member”. Some members were rude enough to take phone calls during talks about safety and about the glacier. The experience was set to be amazing and maybe with a more knowledgable / appropriate group this would have got 5* but I’m afraid the advertisement of an “easy hike” meant the other members ruined our experience. Our guide Raisa - she was very knowledgeable and her passion for not just the glacier but the outdoors in general shone through in her fact and discussions about the area. Unfortunately it seems the minimum standards should be upped to allow the guides to maximise their role and potential to customers
It was organized. the guides were helpful. It was a bit strenuous but doable if you’re in shape. Interesting
Did this as part of an eight day tour - it’s a must do in Iceland. We got lucky with the weather and it was absolutely beautiful. troll provide all the kit so you have crampons, pick axe and a helmet and you can borrow hiking boots, too. Our guide Beda was great (even his cheesy jokes), felt so safe going up there with him. Will be back some day!!
This was the highlight of my trip to Iceland. When can you say you hiked a glacier? My partner and I went to iceland in October when there was record snowfall- 18inches! We still managed to make the trek from Reykyavik to the meet up location (about 2.5 hour drive) and it was well worth it. The weather on the glacier itself was perfect, hardly windy and SUNNY. It look a little bit to get the trek started with donning the safety equipment, but once we got going, wit was amazing. Edgar and Natalia were amazing hosts- very patient with some of our less attentive compatriots but also very informative. And a pleasure to be around and talk with. I just hope they'll adopt a QR code / venmo for digital payments (still, it's obviously wholly, my fault I did not prepare cash for tips!). Best of luck to you Edgar and Natalia, I hope to see you again next year, maybe in the spring or fall!
Amazing once in a lifetime experience. The glacier was beautiful and are guide Edgar made sure we were safe and had a great experience. I would highly recommend and I would do it again when I return to Iceland.
My husband and I did this tour on 10/12/25 during our anniversary trip to Iceland. First off, our tour guide Miguel and our hiking experience were great! Miguel was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were given all the equipment we needed and Miguel made sure everything was put on properly. However, my experience when reaching out to the company regarding an issue was terrible! I booked this tour with Viator and received a confirmation email from Viator. No where in the tour information on the Viator website nor in my confirmation email did it state that we would have to pay a parking fee when we arrive at the meeting point. Also, at the meeting point there are ZERO signs stating that you have to pay for parking and the tour guides did not mention it. Upon returning my rental car, I was notified that I had not paid a parking fee during my glacier hike therefore I have to pay almost three times as much to the rental company because of this. When I reached out to Troll Expeditions I was initially told there is no parking fee at the meeting point, as parking is free for visitors joining the tour. When I shared that I received a parking ticket and can share the photo of the ticket with them, I then got a response from a different customer service representative from Troll Expeditions stating that they apologize for the confusion but parking is not included and if I had booked directly through their website instead of Viator then the information would have been given to me. When I explained the unreasonableness of not having this information because of who I booked with, I was then answered by a completely different customer representative that suggested I reach out to Viator for a refund on the parking ticket. I again replied to the representative and shared that the idea was absurd to ask Viator for a refund and that Trolls Expedition should instead be the one refunding me for the parking ticket and fee I had to pay to the car rental company because their posting on Viator failed to mention a parking fee at the meeting point and they have zero signs up to make customers aware. A fourth customer service representative replied to me and stated that they regret to inform me that they are unable to refund me because the parking area is managed by an external company named Parka and fees apply to all vehicles parked there regardless of whether the information was included in my booking or not. Now let me say that every popular tourist destination I visited in Iceland (like Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Skógafoss waterfalls) there were very BIG signs notifying visitors that they have to pay a parking fee. They even had a QR code on the sign to help visitors easily pay the parking fee. However, at the meeting point for this expedition there were zero signs! I walked around the entire grounds and never saw a sign. Needless to say, Trolls Expedition should have done the right thing and refunded me. I didn't try to skip out on paying a parking fee, instead I was blindsided and charged triple the amount because the Trolls Epedition company failed to disclose the information to it's custormers from Viator. Four different customer service representatives followed up with my issue and it was not resolved. Therefore, I do not recommend using this company. But, if you do book this glacier hike, keep in mind that you have to pay for parking! Maybe by downloading the Parka app, I really don't know how you would know that with zero signs to help guide you!
I did the 3-hour Solheimajokull glacier hike with guide Anna. She was knowledgeable, gave clear instruction, was patient as we stopped for photos, and made the trip extremely enjoyable. What a thrill to be on an actual glacier. Troll was organized and efficient. Great experience.
We took this glacier hike with Edgar on 30 September 2025. Fantastic experience! It’s my second time visiting Iceland in 9 years, and it struck me the glacier is so much further from the parking lot right now - the glacier used to be a 10 minutes walk from the parking lot but it took 20 minutes of walk on lava ashes before reaching the glacier. Simply demonstrated the effects of climate change and how much the glacier has retreated. Our guide Edgar is really enthusiastic and you can tell he loves his job. He shows us many geological formation on the glacier with tremendous excitement and looks out for our safety.
This company was awesome and would definitely do another tour with them. Our guide, Edger was amazing. I would ask for him. He made the hike fun and was very knowable about the glacier.
Solheimajokull 3 hour glacier hike. This was an amazing hike. Our guide Eli was fantastic and made the trip safe and exciting. We hiked pretty far up on the glacier and saw how they measure the change in size of the glacier over the season. It was a bit harder to walk on the glacier than I thought even with the cramp-ons provided, but I would 100% recommend everyone take this tour.
Our guide, Lilly was AMAZING! She was energetic, fun and caring. She made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. She was great with the adults (my wife and I) as well as our children (8&11). In fact I think my 8 year old is now wanting to be an ice-climber. As far as the experience itself, it is a must do in Iceland. If you don't have it on your itinerary, don't leave Iceland without experiencing it!
Our fabulous guide, Tomasso, led us on a fun and beautiful hike! There were 8 of us and we had our own guide, which was quite nice. The hike time was just right and located quite close to the check in spot.
This glacier hike was an amazing adventure. Our guide was great; he was engaging, informative, and made sure that everyone on the hike was having a good time.
Unique 3 hour hike of a glacier. Medium difficulty. Knowledgeable tour guides. Quality gear. As advertised. Would highly recommend.
Tom was awesome! Very patient and informative!! Beautiful hike and great experience overall for our family.
We had an amazing time. Maria our tour guide was so informative and helpful. My 12 year old was able to do everything! Saw so much, great pictures, and memories of a lifetime. Highly recommend!
Lovey trip. Our guide Edgar was informative, friendly and gave us opportunities to get great pictures. See the glaciers now before they melt :-(
We did the three-hour Solheimajokull glacier tour with Troll and had a great time. Let me start by saying we were 10 minutes late for our tour. We were stressed about that and felt terrible, and sure enough our tour had left when we arrived. That was bad for us but in general I like tours that leave on time! Anyway, the remaining staffer called the tour guide and they arranged for the first staffer to outfit us quickly and then take us to a spot where we could meet our guide. We want to thank Troll for the understanding and accommodation. We felt badly being late, and would have felt awful if we had missed out on this experience. We were grateful that this worked out. The glacier tour is super fun. If you think this is just a sheet of ice, it's not. There are all kinds of interesting features, blue ice, fissures, little waterfalls on the side, and lots of history to learn about. We would highly recommend this experience, in particular with Troll.
The Glacier Hike was amazing - so much natural beauty! Tomas was a terrific guide assisting the group and ensuring everyone was safe. Tomas was informative, caring, friendly, and Fun! My brother lost his wallet when he was taking off his jacket, and Tomas contacted him and ensured a safe return of his wallet intact! Service above and beyond! The hike was somewhat challenging for us (we are seniors), but I highly recommend the tour and Troll Expeditions!
Had a fantastic hike with Edgar! He was so kind and shared his deep knowledge with us about the glacier with his great humor and our whole group ended the hike with chocolate in hand and high spirits! 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Hike difficulty was moderate for someone who doesn’t hike much, but was definitely worth it. Edgar was sure to keep our group together and kept us at a comfortable pace for everyone. Be sure to bring warm clothes and comfortable hiking shoes with ankle support (or rent them at the tour).
Really enjoyed the hike, was pretty amazing being able to walk on the glacier and learning about the things we encountered along the way. In my opinion, the first hike of the day is also the best one, there are a few people around and non noise, except your feet walking with crampons. Lastly, I wanted to thank our guide, Edgard. He has been amazing, really available, very well prepared on the history of the glacier. My group of friends and I really enjoyed the hike because of Edgard, too!!
Our guide was very professional and informative. He made sure that all of us were geared up properly and knew safety protocols. I felt safe and excited. A once in a lifetime experience. Our guide was very much an environmentalist, and stressed that the future of glaciers was in our hands. The evident glacial shrinking was both depressing and motivating.
Absolutely phenomenal! This was our first time to ever even see a glacier let alone hike on one! It was surreal. The dusting of volcanic ash made it come alive even more. We loved our tour guide Wojtec! He was crystal clear about safety precautions , patient and helpful with the equipment, fun with the photo ops and very knowledgeable about the geologic processes. The day will be our most memorable experience from this trip .
Had a great 3 hr glacier hike and climb with Troll and Kevin as our guide, the place is amazing with great views. After safety briefing and explaining how to walk with cramp ons. Our guide was funny, knowledgable amd made the experience great for me and my partner, definitely recommend
Went on the 3 hour guided tour. Our guide was great. He was knowledgeable about the glacier and it felt very safe at all times. At one point he attached a rope to our harnesses and let us stand on the edge of a giant hole in the ice. It was super cool and one of the highlights of our entire trip.
We had a fantastic tour. The glacier was incredibly beautiful and the tour guide EDGARS was amazing. He was very informative, safe, and kept pace with the slowest of the group - definitely made the tour better! The hike was moderate and despite the rainy weather, we all had a good time.
What an amazing experience!! Our guide Paulina was helpful, insightful and fun. Drank 700yr old water as it cascaded down and just the sheer awesomeness of being on a glacier is indescribable! Highly highly recommend doing this if you can!! (Also go to the bathroom before you set out!)
We had a fantastic time with Kamilla! She was so helpful and knowledgeable about the terrain. It was super interactive and she showed us a bunch of great photo spots. Overall such an amazing experience!
