A great experience but beware the price. We paid for two adults and got one sled. Our friends on the same trip paid the same and got two sleds. No explanation, no partial refund, I did request. They need to be clear on the policy at booking.

Incredible experience. Amazing views. The guides were great and very friendly. The ride to the sleds was as exciting as the snowmobiling.
Overall, we had an incredible experience. Due to weather, they had to change the itinerary from snowmobiling to driving buggies along the tundra by the glacier. This turned out to be an amazing trip full of adventure and so many beautiful sights. I probably took 50 pictures and the sunset lasted forever.. The guides were excellent, and we felt very taken care of and safe.
We ended up not being able to snowmobile due to lack of snow in Iceland! The Southcoast adventure tour team lead was awesome and got us in another tour right away! So helpful and accommodating, we ended up doing a 2.5 hour buggy tour and couldn’t recommend it more! Our tour guide was a ranger as well as search and rescue, so felt very safe but also was able to see the coolest terrain! The buggy’s were absolutely phenomenal as well as the landscape. Would recommend to anyone coming to Iceland
If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure in Iceland, snowmobiling on Eyjafjallajökull is a must-do experience! We were fortunate enough to have clear skies and minimal wind, making for the perfect day in one of the most breathtaking locations on Earth. The entire experience was seamless and exhilarating from start to finish. My husband and I were equipped with ski pants, jackets, snow boots, and heated gloves, which kept us nice and toasty. They provided us with balaclavas, helmets, and goggles, which were super comfy and did a great job of keeping the cold at bay. We were also given the option to wear an extra suit over our ski wear, but the guides assured us it wasn’t necessary—and we were perfectly fine without it. If the wind had picked up, though, I would’ve opted for the extra layer. The journey started with a thrilling ride in a super jeep up to the mountain, offering us amazing views along the way. We ventured into a remote area with fresh, untouched snow, which made the experience feel even more special. It was just us and a couple of other guests, with four amazing guides who ensured our safety and comfort while making sure we had the time of our lives. The snowmobiles were easy to handle after a quick lesson, and before we knew it, we were off. Riding through the pristine snow with stunning views of the ocean and surrounding mountains was surreal. At first, we drove in a line to get the hang of the snowmobiles, but then we split up, allowing for a more personal and immersive experience. The entire tour felt very private, and it was great to have so much freedom to enjoy the surroundings. The guides were incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable, sharing interesting facts about the area while also ensuring everyone had fun. We had the best time, and I can’t recommend this experience enough. If you're looking for a truly magical way to explore Iceland, snowmobiling on Eyjafjallajökull is an absolute must!
What a fun outing on the snowmobiles. The team had the process down perfectly from outfitting us with needed snow suits, the education on the use of the snowmobiles and the fun ride up to the ride spot. We had a good day to use the snowmobiles and the guide gave us chances to go over various hills, turns and slopes. We had double rider mobiles for our family and the guide gave chances to take pictures and switch drivers along the way. The truck taking us up to the ride location was just as cool, an added bonus.
This glacier was not very remarkable Having done this before with another tour company I know the difference… they did not supply boots for gloves, and that was a surprise. We went in our own footwear with just regular gloves. The last company I did this with gave us head to tow gear and that was a great comfort.
We had a great experience with snowmobiling. While it was raining in Vik, we had IDEAL weather for our excursion. We had a full tour of ~11 people. After about a 30 min ride into the mountains and onto the Glacier, we were led further into the mountains on the snowmobiles. We had several stops along the journey to take pictures, ride around on the snowmobiles freely, and walk around on the fresh powder. Many people in my family said it was one of their favorite excursions they have ever done. Being given free time to play on these awesome and powerful machines was something we had not experienced before. Highly recommend!
Not only did we enjoy an exceptional snowmobile tour, we also got a great history lesson on the ride up and down the mountain.
Absolutely amazing experience and an absolute must do tour whilst visiting Iceland. The drive up to the snowmobile’s was an experience in itself and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland. Definitely worth the money and you get a good amount of time on the snowmobiles too. One piece of advice I would give when doing this tour is if you do want to go a little faster on the snowmobiles then I would recommend getting to the front of the convoy behind the tour guide as that’s what we did and we were able to pick the pace. Absolute 10/10 experience, thank you Southcoast.is
Amazing experience! Due to very good weather we were able to reach the very top of the glacier. Thank you Robert and the team!
My parents, husband and I did a morning's snowmobiling on the glacier with the team in Southcoast Adventure which was a real highlight of an amazing week in Iceland. Going up and down in the modified vehicle was nearly as cool as the snowmobiling itself. Our 2 guides were super informative and helpful and did all they could to make sure that we had a great time. Couldn't recommend them more highly
My husband enjoyed the experience of snowmobiling, while I enjoyed the journey to and from the base camp more. Both of the guides Ingvar and Alex, were helpful and gave us insight into the local area and the process of snowmobiling. We were given warm protective suits, helmet, goggles and gloves, to keep out the cold. At the time of our visit most of the lower snow had melted and it was misty on the glacier summit, so the view towards the south coast was good but limited. Overall the atmosphere and scenery was great and it was well worth the trip. We feel this activity is probably more suited to a younger age group that ourselves (60+), who have strong shoulders and arms, to ease the driving of the snowmobile, but it was still fun.
If this was just on our tour guide Robert I'd give this a 5/5, he was great and I really enjoyed him. And the view was gorgeous. But overall, I wouldn't recommend this company again, because 1. When signing up, I bought 2 tickets for me and my partner and there's nothing that says we have to share a snowmobile but after arriving all 3 couples had to share their designated snowmobile. I let my partner drive because he loves "toys" but tbh I was really looking forward to that and I would have paid more or gotten a different putting if I had known we had to share. 2. And this REALLY irks me. I had picked the 2 PM slot for us and we were both really looking forward to it because we had been traveling from reykavik to vik and had done the northern lights the night before we were tired and looking forward to having an easy morning. The night before I check my email and see something from the company that says they "had to cancel the 2pm slot because of a storm could we come to the 10pm slot instead", we obviously didn't want to miss this experience so we said yes. But LO AND BEHOLD, at the very end of our tour, Robert mentioned he had another group coming in for the 2pm slot, so this company straight up LIED TO ME to get us to switch spots. Which is so unacceptable. Just be honest. If you overbooked, you overbooked, but why lie to me? Also, I prepared for that slot and planned my vacation and picked that day MONTHS in advance. Yeah not cool. It was gorgeous, it was a fun time, Robert was great, but I dont recommend this company.
Absolute highlight of Iceland trip. Cannot recommend more highly. Easy meeting point off Road 1 by Seljalanfoss waterfall..it was freezing at base camp but we were well kitted out and had the best experience up on the glacier with stunning views and away from the crowds. Windless and mild in comparison to base camp & unexpected sunshine. Perfect length of trip and although expensive (everything is in Iceland) still consider it money well spent. Interesting between volcanoes with explanations by guide.
DO NOT BOOK THIS TRIP ! For starters they are almost double the cost. Our friends went on an identical snowmobiling trip for 4 and paid $550. We paid close to $900 for 3 people. Second, the address is NOT CORRECT. We missed our reservation and they would not credit us or refund. YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD GOOGLE MAPS and enter “Southcoast Adventure” none of which is explained in the details. We drove 30 minutes past the location. DO NOT BOOK THEM. SEARCH FOR SNOWMOBILING THROUGH PRIVATE SITES. DONT USE VIATOR OR SOUTHCOAST. WE REGRET IT COMPLETELY. WORST PART OF ICELAND WAS THIS COMPANY.
Highly recommend Southcoast Adventure's snowmobiling tour! Our guide was fantastic, making sure we all felt confident operating the snowmobiles before we set off. The views were incredible! All the equipment was very well-maintained and seemed like-new. And, we got to try some local smoked lamb (I'll spare you details of what it is smoked in, but definitely have a taste if offered to you). Our tour was organized through Midgard Adventures (another local tour operator) and it's clear that everyone knows and supports each others' businesses.
We had a private tour with 2 couples to do snowmobiling on a glacier. Magnus was a very skilled ATV driver taking us on an adventurous 1hour drive to get to the glacier to meet snowmobiles. We enjoyed the vantage point even on a cloudy windy day to ride around to see the surrounding volcanoes. Quite a fun 3 hour tour.
Crazy trip up mountain! Ingy drove - incredible confidence for a challenging drive up - with Magnus in back. Comfortable but definitely a bit out of my normal comfort zone - truly amazing! Made us truly appreciate the beauty and unpredictable part of nature and the strength of those who live there, snowmobiling was a blast with experienced guides who were confident and professional. Despite Mother Nature we felt safe. Very professional company with very experienced guides.
We had a great experience snowmobiling with B - even though it was white out conditions for most of our trip. You meet at Suncoast Adventures on the right about 5 minutes down the road from Gljufrabui waterfall. You get suited up and then they drive you up to the glacier where the snowmobiles are parked. It was a great time!
Magnus and Ziggy ensured we had a brilliant time and we were SO lucky because it was such a beautiful day we had the best sunsets and views (around 3.30/4.00pm - went on the 2.00pm slot). We have 2 boys aged 11 and 13 and they were blown away. For scenery, views and sense of adventure would highly recommend. They helpfully provide suits to go over your warm gear. They are needed! Magnus and Ziggy were full of interesting facts and insights in the drive up and down.
We had a fantastic time snowmobiling to the top of the glacier. It was just me and my husband and our guide, Almar. They gave us protective suits to wear to keep us warm as well as helmets . Words can't describe the beauty and the solitude of the location. Almar was also very knowledgeable of the area and made sure we were safe, always looking over his shoulder every minute or so to make sure we were right behind him.
First sunny day in over a month or two. Fresh snow in the hills. It just happened that we were the only two people that booked for that time, 14 pm. We had the whole mountain for ourselves and of course, the very champ of the champs Einar H, our wide. We had so much fun. He told us lots of interesting things about the snowmobile, the volcanos, Iceland...he even recommend a wonder bar called Micro Bar in Reykjavik. Two thumbs up for Southland Adventures and Einar H.
Just got back from our trip - 3 days with Southcoast Adventures and couldn't be happier. They picked us up from the airport and we were off and running. Did everything you'd want to do. Had a different tour guide each day and one was better than the other. Shout out to Stephan and our Northern Lights trip! If you are going to Iceland do yourself a favor and book your trip with them. You won't be disappointed!
Due to our trip in late July/early August, there was not as much snow on the front side, so the SuperJeep ride to the glacier took quite a while, and there is no great path to speak of - take your motion sickness pills if you are prone to car sickness. Once you are geared up and on the snowmobiles, it was a blast! Our family of three had a private guide and raced around the glacier. What an experience to be on top of a volcano that erupted in 2010! At times, we were over by an area of volcanic rocks, and it felt like we were on another planet. It would have been nice to be there a little longer actually riding, but it was nice that we pretty much had the whole area to ourselves. Our guide was informative and did a good job. Highly recommend this experience!
I've been all over the world and can honestly say that this was one of the top-five greatest things I've ever done. For starters, we got lucky and there was an awkward number of people on the trip so my family was able to break out and go privately with Stefan. He was the best. Funny, friendly, helpful. Everything. He helped push this excursion to a great place. The views are incredible. The vastness of everything up at the top is amazing. Photos do not do it justice. I knew I'd love this trip, but it exceeded every expectation that I had. We also booked this at the last moment when another excursion cancelled on us. So it made it better that we feel like we got lucky and everything worked out for the best. Do it. You won't regret it.
Had the most amazing time, doing something I’d not considered before. Staff are friendly and helpful, so relaxed with their customers. So glad that clothing was provided, stayed nice and warm. Wish we had time to experience more tours. We’ll be back.
We did a one-hour snowmobile tour with Southcoast Adventures in January. We had some great views despite it being a bit cloudy. It cleared up a bit in the afternoon so I would have preferred to do the tour a bit later in the day but that would not have fitted into our itinerary. The guides were great and the super jeep transfers up to the glacier were fun with a few challenges.
To be honest, I tried many things here in Iceland, but this Snowmobiling tour on Eyjafjallajokull glacier was something new and ground-breaking! Total length of trip was 3 hours (including reaching glacier with SuperJeep) - but this was more than enough. It was quite cold day, -9C in base camp, but using provided clothing it was pretty warm even on top of glacier. Views were magnificent, whole Thórsmörk valley was visible, and much more. I would recommend this trip to anyone!
I wanted to do a longer snowmobile tour during my visit in early December. There was not enough snow in the Highlands yet for a multi-day tour, so I booked a private day tour for December 5. Sigga was quick to respond and very helpful during the research stage and even called me the day before to make sure everything would go ahead as planned. When I arrived at their Gljúfrabúi office on the morning of the tour Stefán outfitted me with the right gear and drove me up to their mountain base, where we met with Rúnar. I got a powerful snowmobile with heated handlebars. Conditions were interesting with strong winds, limited visibility and partly very deep snow. We made it up to the top of Eyjafjallajökull and then tried to find a way to Fimmvörðuskáli, but the snow conditions wouldn't allow that, so we watched the sunset over the coast instead during a late lunch. On the way back we had some technical problems with one snowmobile and the truck, but that just added to the adventure. Both Stefán and Rúnar are great guides with a wonderful sense of humor and impressive technical and driving skills. They took excellent care of me and ensured the day was equally fun and challenging. Maybe next time I'll be back for a multi-day Highland tour and/or to learn more about Highland driving. Highly recommended!
Great experience to get out on a glacier and/or drive a snowmobile if never done it. Cloudy day so much of the run visibility was significantly diminished. "Really, there is a really great vista right there 100' in front of us, really!" Stay on the low land and do the ATV tour is my recommendation.
I tried to do all things active and adventurous on my trip in Iceland and this was definitely the highlight!! Not because the other things weren’t fun, I just had no iDEa that snowmobiling is so fun! I love how they just put you on one and trust you (you follow your guide though don’t worry!). We got plenty of chance to go fast, make turns, uphill, downhill, even a fun little steep drop. I was solo but my advice to ladies is don’t be a passenger, get in the driver seat! The ride there was awesome too, off-roading in the crazy van and our guide Rünar was fun and knowledgeable- told us about the region and Iceland!
We had booked a snowmobile tour. We were alone on the glacier with our guide Runar Steinn. I can only recommend it. Thanks Runar Steinn Many thanks to Runar Steinn
