The ice caves are amazing. The tour guide did an excellent job of educating us on the caves, the glacier and the dangers surrounding the ice caves due to the natural changes that occur. I would highly recommend this tour.
Increíble experience, a must in Iceland. Our guide, Ari, made It very funny and interesting.
Outstanding staff, guide and tour. Very nicely organised and extremely well taken care of. Loved our trek and it was kind of the highlight of our entire Iceland trip.
We had an awesome time with our guide Gudjon, who took us on an amazing Icelandic journey. We experienced the local music while driving to the site and little bits of popular culture trivia (like the site for filming a portion of Rogue One Star Wars movie). He showed us how the caves and glaciers are formed (and melt), took our photos and answered all of our questions. His warm personality and the incredible natural scenes we experienced will make this a memorable tour.
We did the KatlaTrack ice cave and black beach drone tour. It was an exceptional adventure - one I would recommend to anyone who wants to see volcanic glaciers, beautiful landscapes, ice caves, and black sand beaches. We absolutely loved it. Ask for George as your guide. He was great!
Excelent experience. The guide, GoodJohn ( I write this by how it sounds) was excelent. Knowable and informative. Everything was exactly as advertised.
We had a fabulous experience with Katlatrack Fast Track Ice Cave tour. Our guide George was excellent- experienced, friendly, and informative. Katlatrack seem to run a very well organised and efficient operation. The landscape with the ice cave that we visited is spectacular and even though I could happily have spent longer there , the area was filling up as we were finishing. We were very glad with our decision to book the first tour of the day. I can highly recommend this tour and the experience, and definitely book the earliest start possible to have some time to enjoy the area before it fills up!
This was an incredible experience - more than I could have expected. The guide (Simeon??) was extremely knowledgeable about the geography and science of the glaciers and ice caves. He was both good at moving us along but still patient with the group as a whole. I really appreciate the beauty of the caves and glacier. I could go on and on about the entire trip but simply, it is an event that I am glad that I did. Note that I am into my 70s and I walk a lot of hills at a good pace. I was able to keep up with the group but it does require a bit of effort. It advertises that it requires intermediate level of fitness - that is accurate
Our family of three - parents and a 19-year-old - had a fabulous experience on the ice cave tour with Katlatrack, guided by the fabulous Gudjon. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations based on some reviews of the ice cave experience (regardless of the operator), but we all considered it a highlight of our trip to Iceland. The ice caves are constantly changing, so you never know what it's going to look like. We went into two different ice caves. My husband thought the area around the caves was even more interesting and beautiful. Our guide, Gudjon, was fabulous. He was very knowledgeable and shared interesting information about the formation of the caves, how the area has changed over the years, etc. All of the staff members we interacted with at Katlatrack were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend both the experience and Katlatrack to take you!
We had an Amazing time, Pawel was our guide and he was more than extraordinary. Thank you Pawel for this experience.
Great trip. I wish i could remember names, but our guide was originally from Poland, in his fifties, looked like he was in his twenties, and very knowledgeable. The ice caves were beautiful, so sometimes glowing blue, sometimes translucent like glass. The crampons were easy to slip on and walk with. If I come back, I would do it again.
Our guide, Pawel was amzing! Introducing the ice cave, road before ring road, and where a few location was used for filming movies, explaining how glacier and ice cave is formed and how it is always changing. Felt like we were lucky, no waiting time to enter the ice cave and all. Saw so many groups coming as we made our way down!
It was wonderful! The guide Pavel was funny and told us lots of interesting facts. He was also happy to answer any additional questions we had. The whole experience was excellent – the ride in the special vehicle, the hike to the cave, and the glacier itself. I highly recommend it!
Fantastic time with our guide George and our tour mates! Katlatrack was wonderful and made our time on the glacier and in the caves amazing! Highly recommend Katlatrack and this must do activity!
The trip from Vik was interesting in the big super jeep monster truck! You are greeted by a large glacier where there used to be tunnels. The guide showed me a pic from Sept 2023 where the tunnel was basically where we parked. This is an ever changing landscape and the tunnel isn’t really there anymore. There are some nice spots with picture opportunities but you can’t really go in more than 50-75 feet max and you can’t only stand up for a bit of that. It would have been a great experience 3yrs ago but now unfortunately it’s just a walk up a glacier with some short distance tunnels
Both experiences Ice cave and buggy! Unforgettable, the guides both top! Julian amazing, we really enjoyed everything I will recommend to every one
The best tour guide I ever had!! Thomas really did all his best! Stunning ice cave with a fun tour. Definitely recommend this!
Wonderful experience not to be missed. Our tour guide was Powel who was very knowledgeable and fantastic tour guide. It was an amazing experience
I expected more from the trip. U could only go in the cafés vor like 50 meter or so. The Guido did a great job telling thing.i found the trip to the ice cave more fun then the ice cave itself. In my honest opinion its to expensive.
Jorge from Greece made the experience even better!! Very well organised. Everything was on time and the experience last 3 hours as expected.
Our flight to Iceland was cancelled due to an airport strike, entirely outside our control. We contacted the company 46 hours before the tour to request rebooking, but they refused to make an exception to their 48-hour policy—despite being only two hours short and facing an extraordinary circumstance. Other companies were understanding and flexible, but this company showed no compassion or customer care. We strongly advise against booking with them and will not return.
AMAZING! We did a private tour and so glad we did. With the private tour I feel like we had such a unique experience. We were able to go all the way in the caves and were educated on the changing environment. If you are thinking of doing a private tour I highly recommend it vs a group tour. Davis was our guide and he was fantastic.
⭐ 1/5 – Katlatrack Adventure Tours Very disappointing customer service regarding gift certificates. We have five gift certificates for Katlatrack that were purchased as a gift. Unfortunately, with a family of five, it proved difficult to find suitable weather and a time when everyone could participate. We therefore contacted Katlatrack to ask whether there was any possibility of using the certificates in October, or alternatively next year. The certificates had an expiry date in 2025, which we had unfortunately overlooked. What really disappointed me was the complete lack of flexibility or goodwill from Katlatrack. Their response was simply: “Unfortunately, it is far overdue.” That was it. I understand that businesses have expiry dates and terms, but when a customer has five unused gift certificates and is genuinely trying to arrange a tour, I would expect at least some attempt to find a reasonable solution—especially when the alternative is that the company keeps the full value of five certificates while providing nothing in return. We were not asking for a refund. We were simply asking if the certificates could be honoured towards a future booking. After this experience, I would think twice before purchasing Katlatrack gift certificates for anyone. A gift certificate should be a gift, not a ticking expiration clock. The tours themselves may be excellent—I cannot comment on that from this experience. But customer service is also part of the experience, and unfortunately this interaction left a very bad impression. 1/5 for customer service.
The Tour was definitely worth it. Wonderful views. Our Guide Jindra gave a lot of information about glaciers. He was funny, took our „couple“ pictures and was very helpful and supportive. Thanks for everything, Jindra !
Lovely experience with lots details. Unforgettable memories.
We had a great time driving through and exploring an amazing, other-worldly landscape. Honestly, the cave was cool, but it’s small and you are done with it quickly. The real draw was walking to the cave and just experiencing it all.
Our tour guide was the best! I couldn’t remember his name but originally from Czech. He gave historical info about glaciers and Katla Ice Cave. He also gave specific northern asked. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see inside an ice cave.
Our second trip to the caves. We were here in the winter and it was crazy cold! September gave us windy and rainy. Family loved it! I was a bit terrified but did it anyway. Not for the faint of heart.
We had a wonderful experience with Katla Track! Inês is an extremely kind and communicative guide. She’s also very knowledgeable about the glacier and volcanic environments.
Great tour. Fun and informative. Good music on the trip also.
Amazing Glacier experience. Thomas our guide was very fun and witty. Don't be fooled by there clothing, bring extra pair of everything including socks. The glaciers are melting and invariably you will become wet and cold. It is an amazing thing to walk on a glacier and they taste nice too (tongue doesn't get stuck).
When we planned our Katla Ice Cave tour, we were reading reviews and checking the pictures. What we didn’t realized - that the scenery is changing extremely fast. They say just few days before our tour there were 3 caves, and at the time of our visit - just one. Also keep in mind that the weather is changing very fast in Iceland. At the beginning of our tour it was still raining and foggy, but as we arrived at the glacier we were rewarded with sunshine and no rain, so we got absolutely breathtaking scenery! Our tour guide Inis was fun and entertaining, helped with helmets and harnesses, told us lots of stories. Hike is not difficult, just pay attention where to step and always follow the lead of the guide. Because of rain we rented KatlaTrack raincoats, as our own were soaking wet. They also offer boots for rent if you don’t have hiking shoes. We took a tour at 2:30pm because it fitted well with our day, but it turned out to be the best weather possible! We’ve seen many other groups by other tour operators, cannot compare them:) KatlaTrack is well organized, easy to find, professional team. Highly recommend this tour and company!
This was a really fun and educational experience but is quite pricey. It's so worth it at the moment but when you see your credit card statement and reminisce, you'd wish it was a tad cheaper. I would say I had realistic expectations going in as someone visiting an ice cave in the summer. I knew we can't stay too long and that the nature of the destination means I won't have the same experience as everyone else before and after me. The off road ride to the glacier was bumpy but fun and we saw cool views. The tour guide also provided educational info and took great photos.
After a scenic ride to the site, the hike up to the caves is a thrill in itself. You'll cross over many powerful little streams on portable wooden bridges as you make the ascent and take in striking views at every turn. My son and I were able to visit more than one ice cave. We were unrushed at the locations and had time to properly enjoy all of it. Our guide, Stefán, really pushed the experience to the top by, for example, spontaneously taking measurements of stream depths using a pickaxe and rope, pointing out details about ice density, and letting my boy help shovel out some ice to re-route a melt stream. The group was rightly sized, only about ten of us, so you can easily move around (and easily ask questions as well). It felt almost like a private tour! It's a challenge to compare parts of an action-packed trip, but this event easily stood out.
It was an amazing experience. It is family friendly, even for our parents, who are 70+. It is a great alternative if you could not walk 3 hours on a glacier tour.
This was the highlight of our day. The natural ice cave was great. The walk on the glacier was a bonus.
Our top experience by far. We had a 40 minute drive from the base to the glacier in a large vehicle. We then put spikes on our shoes and hiked up the glacier into Ice caves. It was the most breath taking experience. Marcel was an excellent tour guide. He gave us history on the area. Our entire family loved this. Book the 9am tour. I liked this vendor because they kept our group small and we got there early so it wasn’t packed. As we were coming back down other tour vendors were showing up With 20-30 people in a group and it was so crowded. It looked miserable. Katlatrak was awesome and easy to work with!
Incredible experience. Our guide (i forget her name but blonde and Portuguese) was friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. A must do adventure for your trip to iceland. Also they had Incredible coffee and the pizza was our favourite meal in Iceland.
My family and I did the Porsmork Super Jeep Tour. Simion was great as a tour guide. The weather was rainy, so he accommodated us by going to see canyons. We saw Merkurker that had a fast moving stream in a cave. Simion then took us to see Eyjafjallajokull Glacier where we learned that this is the only glacier growing in Iceland. My highlight of the tour was seeing Stakkholtsgja Canyon with it tall walls. My daughter's favorite was Nauthusagil. Simion was very helpful with our family crossing streams and climbing rocks. He also shared with us Icelandic folklore during the jeep ride. My son enjoyed the water splashing over the jeep. Two days later, we did Katla Fast Track Ice Cave. Angelika was our tour guide. My kids loved seeing the ice caves. The ice caves were one of my kids' highlights of the trip. Angelika did a great job assisting the group of people up and down the glacier. She took pictures of each families in the ice caves. I recommend Katlatrack. I just recommended them to a coworker today who is going to Iceland soon.
Dream come thru and the the guide, she was amazing
This was a very fun tour. We did this in constant rain so the combination of the rain, ice, cleats, temporary boards for crossing fast moving streams made the trip all the more adventurous. For some, it was too adventurous. The guys were very good and were offering support to cross the more challenging areas. The ice formations and caves inside made the trip worthwhile. It would have been better if the excursion provided complementary rain, jackets and pants as we were soaked at the end of the experience.
We loved the experience and especially the guide who was very funny and told a lot of stories.
Absolutely incredible experience! We did an ice cave tour near Vík and it exceeded every expectation. Climbing through the ice cave itself was surreal, our guide gave us a great breakdown of the glacier and how these caves actually form, which made the whole thing even more fascinating. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and went out of his way to grab photos of all of us so we didn't have to worry about it ourselves. The meeting point was easy to find, and the van ride out to the glacier was a nice chance to relax and take in the scenery before the adventure started. The group size was perfect with 10 people, it still felt intimate and personalized. Well worth every penny. If you're visiting Vík, this is a must-do. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience, very unique, easy to do, and our guide was friendly and quite funny. The views were spectacular. Highly recommend it!
The experience was disappointing to say the least. The drive in a very old van was hot and humid. There was no AC, warm air blasted from the vents, and the driver refused to let us put any windows down. There was very little exploration of the ice caves. Our experience involved long waits for groups to pass, incessant chatter from the guide attempting jokes, and a cumulative time of approximately 10 minutes in the ice cave itself. Meanwhile, we were forced to take pictures every several hundred yards it felt like we were on a cruise ship, Disney walk, and overall we’re quite disappointed with the hike itself. Inauthentic and contrived. Upgrade the van.
Fantastic expérience! On Time, perfect description of activity. Reminder of items required very usefull. Expérienced and so friendly guide Who made our way up to the Ice cave Great with Icelandic music and stories. Recommand x 1000%
Meeting spot was well appointed and nice facilities while you wait. Short ride to the cave. Nicholas was very friendly and told us facts the entire way there. The cave was easy little climb, there’s a rope to assist you from falling or just need that extra hand. The caves were beautiful in color. My kids and I thought this was a highlight of the trip for sure. Black sand beach is right beside it so be sure to check it out before or after tour.
We booked a last minute ice cave tour. So glad they had space! The superjeep drive was only ok, but the otherworldly hike up the Katla glacier was amazing and the ice tunnel and caves were really unique. Our guide was quite a character and made the trip memorable.
We did this tour as a family of eight, ranging in age from 8 to 65, and every one of us absolutely loved it. Our guide, Gudjon, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience both fun and informative. We had the opportunity to climb the glacier and explore stunning ice caves—both were absolutely breathtaking. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we’ll never forget. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland!
