Great view over Vienna, even a great experience for people with mild vertico.

It crawls round slower than a Sunday bus through Hawkinge, but swaying in a creaky old wooden cabin over the whole of Vienna made me feel like I'd climbed inside a black and white film.
We really enjoyed this experience and were able to purchase the photos that were taken to remember the day.
We visited the Prater Park in Vienna on a Sunday morning during the summer, and it was an excellent experience. Going early was the perfect choice because we completely avoided the crowds and the hot midday weather. The park itself is beautiful and very well preserved. The ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel offered wonderful, panoramic views of Vienna. It was a great, relaxing time with the family, and I highly recommend a morning visit!
Easy enough to use the Viator voucher. You do have to wait in line to get your ticket but it was very easy. Cute experience- similar to the London eye!
Is a nice experience learn about the history of the ferris wheel and beautiful views. Short queue when we went. Option to get a photo as well on entry.
This is the oldest Ferris wheel in the world so not to be missed. We had around 15-20 mins on it and it moves very slowly. Wouldn’t rush to do it again - but you have to do it whilst in Vienna! We really had a fun day at this fair, reasonably priced rides ( compared to the UK) and the little train that runs around the fairground is amazing value - think it was €2. and it takes you out to the wider park area and through woodland - so on it for around 30-45 mins
This is a very smooth riding Ferris wheel. The cars hold a dozen people. The ride is just one revolution, but slow enough to enjoy the view.
It was so hot and the ride was floating in the hot sun So we ended up not going on this ride which was very disappointing 😞
I was worried that the ride might be jerky and a bit rough but it was very smooth. You almost could not feel it going around. You could stand and move around the car with no concern. Even you are intimidated by heights this ride will not be scary to you!
Visited whilst on our hop-on-hop-off bus tour. Located in Prater Park, the ferris wheel is impossible to miss (can be seen across much of the city). We purchased the Ferris Wheel tickets on arrival, very little queue and no saving had we of purchased them on-line. The attraction is very well run and courteous staff throughout. The ride itself lasts around 15 minutes and gives the visitors outstanding views across Vienna. Plenty of room to move around the carriage and see the views from all angles. Added bonus for us was that it was a very clear day. Possibly a little pricey especially if travelling with a family but for the two of us it was well worth it and a memorable experience.
The giant Ferris wheel is based at the Prater Park and for us was reached by a 30 minute tram ride from our hotel. The Ferris wheel featured in both the 3rd Man and the Living Daylights films. We hadn’t pre booked tickets so it took us about 40 minutes to queue and get on the ride. Ahead of getting on the ride, you can opt to have your picture taken which is available when you have completed your ride, there is also a number of the old carriages on display. The ride lasts about 15 minutes dependant upon how many times the wheel stops to let people on the carriages. There are about 15 to 20 people in each carriage and moving around is possible, the views from the top across Vienna are good.
Giant Ferris wheel was a lovely addition to our trip. You can have your photo taken and there are several carriages as you walk to get on the ferris wheel each carriage has models and scenery
Decent experience. Lasts about 15 mins. Great views from the wheel. Nearly 50€ for 3.
Visited on Friday, 13th March 2026, located in Prater Park, and we arrived at the nearby underground station of Praterstern. The park is just over the road, and the Wiener Riesenrad 1897 Ferris Wheel is one of the first attractions within it. This Ferris wheel was featured in the UK C4 show Travelman and the film The Third Man (though only exterior shots). We purchased ride tickets direct but it wasn't straightforward, and tbh we might as well have purchased them on site as there wasn't an online discount and there was no queue when we arrived for our ride at about 10.30. There is an interesting area in advance of the ride itself, which uses small replicas of the carriages to display some models of the history of the city and the ride. Then there is an area where your photo is taken, and you can choose to purchase and then pick up upon completion of the ride. The ride itself provides a lovely view of the city and the park itself. There is space to walk around inside the carriages/cars, and maps to detail what it is you are viewing when looking outside the carriage windows. The ride is only approx. 10-15 mins in length, and there is a bench in each car if you want to sit. Quite expensive for what it is, but as a visitor to the city, it is in line with what you would expect to pay, but I can't see the attraction for a local tbh.
Receptionist at ticket desk rude and poorly trained
Not a pleasant experience. There were not many people in line for the giant wheel so we entered alone in one cabin. We were always stopping during the spin for long periods of time but we thought it would spin more than one time: wrong! You pay 14,50€ per person for 1 spin and maximum of a couple minutes, completely not worthy
Really a must experience in Vienna! Although in all fairness purchasing tickets in advance did not enable us to skip the ticket line
It says on voucher we can use the scan code to get in but the scan did not work I had to stay on a 45 min long line to show the voucher . It still did not work so the counter person to avoid the long line delay , he just printed the tickets ( SIX) for us. So what’s the point to buy these tickets online with Viator in advanced if I have to stay on a regular ticket line to purchase ?? Very disappointed and waste of time Please refund my money back
Good view over Vienna. Carriages are different. Had to exchange my Tripadvisor ticket at the kiosk. Luckily there wasn’t a queue
Interesting to visit a park and to see whole city panorama from the height. Nice and cosy. But it’s nothing special for us
I suppose this is a must go tick in the box type of place. The renowned Ferris wheel in Viena. Went off season and pre-booked online. There weren't any queues on arrival. The pre ride walk round the models was interesting. The view from the top is good, you can see all over Vienna. Nice slow ride round with each cabin stopping to pick up / let off passengers, very sedate.
This attraction is well worth visiting despite being a little out of the main touristy areas in Vienna. It had excellent views, was very safe and didn't go round too fast.
Last time we went on this wheel was 1999. It was a great experience. Fast forward 26 years. Still a good experience and the views are still amazing The surrounding area has certainly changed. Back then it was just the Ferris wheel. Now it is a funfair/amusement park. Very busy and very noisy. Would definitely recommend going on the wheel although not cheap
Quick and easy no line at 8 PM on a Sunday night. We may go back and try platform nine during the day. Very safe. Staff very helpful.
This was the second time I had ridden the Riesenrad - the first was way back in 2005. The 20 year gap is nothing when you think the wheel was first built in 1897. It was largely destroyed by fire in 1944 but was rebuilt the following year using the original structure. We had a guided tour by one of the park's ride owners as part of our visit (which was organised as a special deal for our roller coaster enthusiast club). The Riesenrad offers wonderful views of the Prater and the city landscape. In the station area there are loads of historical displays etc...we didn't peruse them this time but I know we did on the 2005 visit. It definitely feels like you are riding a piece of history when you ride the Wiener Riesenrad. There are extras you can book such as dining and the thrill-seeking Platform 9 option (introduced in 2022 and featuring a steel structure with a glass floor that you stand on instead of being inside a gondola). It looks amazing but we didn't have the time to do that too.
Having often seen it in films and media down the years it was a brilliant experience to finally enjoy a languid turn on it. On the way to boarding it was fabulous to see many retired carriages, each with imaginative vignettes and scenarios within. It was a perfect blue sky day for the excursion. In the historic carriage continually changing magnificent vistas of the city and surrounds are to be savoured.
Tremendous view over the city. The wheel is about 8l0 years old and the experience is well organised. I think we qued for about 8 minutes
Anytime ticket. No real queues and great to travel on an iconic landmark. Prior to embarking their is a mini museum type affair with animated characters and scenes contained in carriages.
We’ve been on many similar wheels around the world.. always a neat ride to see the views.. these aren’t thrill seeking rides, not sure why people get all bent up saying it’s a rip off??? What is it that some expect?? This one is oldest one in existence, a fun circle around, good pics and views.. that’s it yes, total experience took us 45 minutes.. We thought it was fun, loved the views, cool transport pods!
We enjoyed the experience of riding in such an old ferris wheel. We’d booked in advance so skipped the queues (which weren’t long). The ride was very leisurely, offered great daytime views of Vienna. The ferris wheel is in the middle of a fairground, lots of rides available, but we didn’t investigate prices. It’s clearly a place for all ages where you can spend a whole day.
It's a big, old, ferris wheel. A comfortable, obviously not scary ride with a fairly average view, but if you're at Prater and don't fancy one of the scary rides this is a very genteel alternative.
Don’t waste your money and time. A true ripoff. The worst big wheel in the world and ruins the image of Vienna. We went there at around 9pm. Nothing to see. No view at all to compare with other cities like london and Budapest. And they charge way too expensive. It doesn’t worth a penny. What a shame! Don’t go. We were so disappointed and this ruined our holiday as well.
A famous landmark in Vienna, and a great way to take in all the views. Buy you tickets online and you wont have to wait in line. The amusepark is also lovely, all though jam packed when we visited. One annoying thing, as you enter the office, they take a picture of you. They make it look like something mandatory, but it's just a way to make money. I saw some parents struggling to have their kids sit still for the photo, maybe thinking it was something important.
The Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel is a classic experience and offers a beautiful panoramic view over the city. The ride lasts about 10–15 minutes and costs €14.50. If you buy your ticket in advance, you can use the fast track line and skip the regular queue – definitely a time-saver during busy hours. Some cabins even have seating, which makes the ride more comfortable. A must-do when visiting the Prater, especially around sunset!
A great experience which is inclusive for all! A beautiful view from above looking all over Vienna! You won’t be disappointed!
A great thing to do even in bad weather as you are inside in the carriages. You get amazing views of Vienna from the top. We booked our tickets online to avoid queueing to get on. It has a nice little gift shop too.
View is great, emotions just enough for adenture people and not too much for those who are afraid of heighs (like me). Price low
Respecting its historical value & significance of course but we didn't think it was that good value for money. Our experience was slightly jaded with having to share the carriage with a family who had a big push chair which blocked one side of the view along with the baby who was sadly unsettled and crying a lot. So bare in mind you will share with up to 10 other people. Additionally you only do one rotation (most wheels will do one pick up rotation & then one full uninterrupted one) and the wheel itself obstructs some of the views. Still it was a clear view today & it goes give you a different perspective of the city. The Danube Tower offers the best views of Vienna for a fee and the views from the hill at the Schönbrunn Palace offer the best views for free! Book tickets online for direct entry rather than having to queue for the ticket booth which was around a 45min wait this morning.
Even though I'm from Vienna, I have never been to the ferry wheel yet. It was about time to pay a visit, and I rather enjoyed this adventure. However, the waiting time was over an hour and it was quite cold. However, their bathroom was clean and tidy.
We ride the giant wheel every time we come to Vienna. It never gets old. So beautiful from the top. We will do it again next time we are here
Great and unique experience as this is the oldest and largest ferris wheel in Europe We did this at night when the park was lit up and had Xmas stalls Highly recommend
We went all the way to this place as we had heard so much about this but it was one disappointing experience. We went in be evening time as many people said that you can see Vienna by the evening. This costs 14€ per person. It was so slow as people keep climbing and getting on and it gives exactly one round. You are right on top for hardly any time and you discover nothing extraordinary. Waste. There will be many more places in Vienna where you can see everything from the top and looks beautiful. This did nothing for us.
Wonderful! Reasonable price, fast entry and they don’t fill the carriages to the brim allowing lots of space and room to move around carriage. Choice to have pictures was a nice touch and views priceless
We were there on a stormy day, so it was less fun than it could have been. If you're in the Prater also for other attractions then this is a nice addition, but I wouldn't come to the Prater just for the wheel
A must trip when in Vienna. The views of Vienna are amazing and this is great photo opportunity. We went to the Prater Amusement park to ride the Ferris wheel and were shocked by the size of the site and the amount of amusements. Nice coffee too.
A great experience. Only 14 euro. Takes 10 to 15 minutes. Views of Vienna are superb. The ride is gentle. Situated in the Prater .
On discovering the Prater amusement park on our long walking tour around Vienna we went in search of the famous Big Wheel. We were surprised by how big the whole park was and it took us quite some time to eventually find it. It is as impressive as we had been lead to believe when looking at all the tourist brochures of Vienna etc. Regrettably my wife is scared of heights so we didn't take a ride on this even though we understand that you get some great views of the city from the top.
It’s the one place almost everyone knows before they go to Vienna, and you can see it from miles around. Its fame does not diminish its worth and we all loved the trip up and down. Despite being at the height of summer and on a warm day, we hardly had to queue and had a carriage for our own group of eight - loads of space and far better than other similar rides where you can feel packed in like sardines. It takes about 15-20 minutes for a full go round and you get good views over the rest of the city. There is no commentary and no boards explaining what you can see, but it doesn’t take away from the experience in the slightest. The windows also open so you can take better pictures!
You can't go to Vienna and not do the Riesenrad. It's iconic, featured memorably in The Third Man and gives you panoramic views over the City. Part of the Prater Park funfair.
