Vienna First Day Tour: Coffeehouse, Street Food & Local Tips

Great way to start your vacation in Vienna. Christoph was excellent He took us away from the beaten path and to where the locals go.

This is a perfect tour to take if this is your first visit to Vienna (which it was for me). The introduction to the subway and tram system was extremely helpful and set me up for success during the rest of my trip, and the coffee helped a bit with jet lag. I particularly enjoyed the visit to the Wurstelstand, which was a wonderful introduction to the Viennese way of eating sausage and other meats. I thought this tour was a great value – there’s a lot of food and I was completely stuffed by the end. I want to particularly recommend Wolfi, who was amazing despite the fact he had recently hurt his knee. Aside from apologizing that he would have to walk more slowly, he gave a great tour. Highly, highly recommend!

So many different things to try and every one (maybe not the schnapps) was delicious and a surprise. I don’t think I have had better pork belly in my life. The time flew and we were sad when it was over so soon. We could have listened to Christoph’s fount of information all day.

Christoph led an excellent food tour of Vienna. We road the tram to several districts in Vienna while discussing the history and culture. Our favorite part of the tour was the street food. We had sausages with horseradish, roast pork and even tried pine schnapps. Christoph was knowledgeable and shared about life in Vienna.

Great introduction to Viennese culture and food with Christophe!

A private tour via bus/tram/underground, and walking. The food ranged from delicious pastries in the morning to Viennese goulash and wurst in mid-afternoon. Magdalena was an excellent guide with an encyclopedic knowledge of the city, both in the culinary and historical sense. We visited a diversity of neighborhoods and ate at restaurants/bars that we never would have known existed without her. It's a terrific way to become familiar with all that Vienna offers.

We really enjoyed this food tour and it was a great way to explore Vienna on day 1 and beat the jet lag! Magdalena was an excellent guide and we loved all her tips and recommendations for Vienna. We did the 3:30 tour which was perfect. We had a light lunch after arriving and didn’t need to eat dinner after the tour. I’d recommend this for your first day.

Great tour. Meeting location was central but out of the busy foot traffic so easy to find our guide Magdalena. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and adapted to the group and travel needs. She showed us how to use the subway system with types and orientation on how it works which has been invaluable for our stay. Food locations were authentic and delicious with generous portions - we didn’t need to eat dinner after. Overall highly recommended.

Excellent! An orientation tour is such a good idea, and this one is very well done. It got us primed and ready for the rest of our Vienna visit. Christoph is very good guide.

Our first full day in Vienna, our first visit to a Vienna cafe, and our first subway ride, all made better with Maria’s expert guidance. She shared much knowledge of Vienna and helped us get out of the “touristy” area and discover more of the authentic Vienna. The food was delicious and more than we could eat ( took a take away bag that we enjoyed later). Our small group of 4 allowed us to ask questions and move around easily as we traveled to different locations via the subway. In fact, our fear of being confused on the subway diminished greatly and allowed us the confidence to take two separate subway rides after the tour. Highly recommend.

Maria was a wonderful guide. Showing us around Vienna, how to use the public transport system and giving us ideas on what to do during our stay. Come hungry, the food was delicious.

Our first few days in Vienna have been an absolute delight. Verena was the most brilliant hostess, guiding us effortlessly through the underground trains and trams, recommending wonderful places to eat, and sharing all the insider tips that make exploring this amazing city feel so special. We tasted fantastic food in cosy cafés, enjoyed a memorable lunch with Thomas (I never imagined I’d end up loving horseradish), and spent hours wandering both the grand boulevards and the quiet back streets. Every moment felt relaxed, welcoming, and full of charm. I would wholeheartedly recommend this trip to anyone. We’ll definitely be booking another tour with Verena on our next visit.

A must if you’re a first time visitor in Vienna! I had gotten all the intro information on being a tourist I needed while tasting some essential Austrians food and drinks, and learning about the different districts, even got to visit a few of them and the off the beaten path gems! This tour is so well organized, definitely maximized our time while having fun!!

Book this experience and you will not be disappointed. Wonderful afternoon visiting authentic local eateries in Vienna! The host, Wolfgang, is a native of the city and knows where locals like to eat. He was very knowledgeable and explained many things about the city and culture. The food was all delicious! It was especially interesting to get out of the tourist areas by taking a tram to different neighborhoods.

Wonderful experience, great food and excellent orientation to public transportation in the city. Christoph was kind and incredibly knowledgeable. To top it off, the company worked with us to reschedule last minute after we had unexpected flight delays. We really enjoyed this experience!

Coming back to Vienna, we had a wonderful experience. The trip included everything we needed (food, tickets, admission fee, and so on) and made it really easy to focus on the trip itself. We went with another few people but our guide made us feel included at all time, making the crowd size perfect and the whole tour more lively. With just under 3h, you really get a good feel of the city and some of it's lesser known hidden gems, without the entire thing feeling too lenghty or hard on the legs. Would definitely reccomend to anyone looking for more than just tourist traps.

Our tour with Christoph was quite fabulous. He spoke perfect English. He was very informative regarding the foods of Vienna. We were treated to a Viennese Coffee House with a fresh pastry. One in our group showed interest in the speciality torte of Vienna…..next thing we knew 2 pieces appeared on our plate. Stop two was Austrian street food, a bit scarey at first, but was delicious and plentiful. We were served two types of sausages, pork belly, horse meat and a very intriguing dessert. The best vanilla ice cream topped with pumpkin seed oil. Sounded nasty but, we were very impressed with this delicacy enough that we plan on purchasing some of the oil to take back to The States. Last stop off to a location where we had a nice canapés with a glass of wine. I would recommend Christoph and his company very highly. A+

Lovely tour where I felt I really got a feel for the city. There were only 5 of us, so it felt really personalised. There were only actually 2 stops - coffee house and street food, but lots to try and well worth it.

The First Day Tour was a perfect introduction to Vienna and its food culture! They keep groups small (ours had just six people), and we were led by the wonderful Patrick. He showed us how to navigate all of the city's public transportation options before bringing us to a charming, very local coffee house where we sampled half a dozen homemade cakes. The poppyseed one is absolutely to die for! We then headed to another part of the city to visit a local sausage vendor, where we had amazing goulash, sausage, and other delisheous dishes. Patrick was a fantastic guide who made the effort to get to know each of us personally, which I really appreciated. He also shared plenty of tips about where to visit around Vienna, which will make the rest of my stay even richer. Highly recommend this tour!

An outstanding experience!! I can think of no better way to begin one’s time in Vienna than this tour. Wolfi is the perfect guide — personable, charming, and accommodating. This was honestly the perfect kickoff to our time in Vienna. Just about three hours, but it felt full in the best way — packed with stories, little details you’d never catch on your own, and a really nice flow through the city. We ate and drank in places that felt properly local… not staged, not touristy. A classic Würstelstand, hands down the best goulash I’ve ever had, and a really charming traditional coffee house where you just want to sit a bit longer. Wolfi, our guide, made it all come together. Super natural, easy to listen to, knows his stuff without overdoing it. And on top of that, the 24-hour public transport ticket was included, which honestly made the whole thing even better value. Couldn’t have asked for a better start. Thank you so much — it was amazing.

This time I was visiting with my spouse and son and we wanted to catch an afternoon museum, so I booked this shorter version. It was SOOOO delicious and we were well-fed for the rest of the day. I didn’t have much time and thought that this tour in 3 hours might be able to show some things I haven’t seen in my previous trips to Vienna. I was positively surprised. The tour was not only informative, but the food was really phenomenal for the price. Great atmosphere, a nice guide, good food and lots of interesting insights. Clear recommendation!
