We were in town for a wedding and only had 1 day to sightsee and were a group of 7, ranging in age from 10-69. We took the metro from our AirBB to Prata so the kids could experience the amusement park. The hop-on-hop-off person stationed there was named Stella and she was extremely helpful, spending about 20 minutes helping us plan our day….There was not time to see everything, but we were very happy with our experience.

Good choice for solo tourism or group, we didi it during a business activity
Scam be very careful when spending a lot of money on this scam, you will receive a QR code then the bus driver will advise you to print off paper tickets at the cruise office, when you get to the cruise office the people will tell you you need a special ticket from the bus driver for the cruise portion of the trip, we were so angry as we had our 10 year old daughter with us, I tried to contact Viator and they refused to help or offer any sort of compensation as the bus tour company wouldn’t approve it. Be very careful or you will lose a lot of money, the tour cost us £175 for 3 people and we weren’t able to use the main part of the tour very very disappointing and very angry with Viators response.
Good to do at start of holiday to get an idea of the city and some basic information. The walking tour was very good as well.
We did the hop on hop off five in one combo which included two palaces, a river, cruise, and a ride on the Vienna wheel. I thought overall it was worth it.
Nikola was so helpful is recommending options that suited us and we really enjoyed both over the 2 days we had in Vienna. The hop on: hop off tour is an excellent way to see Vienna, especially in 38° heat! Nikola also recommended the longer boat tour, which had so many options for times, and we avoided the queues! The boat tour contained something that was a unique experience for us. We really enjoyed it.
We did the hop on hop off the trolley Ferris wheel and the Danube river cruise. The bus drivers were professional, helpful, and outstanding with navigating the the city. My only suggestion on that would be to know when you get off at a stop if the attraction that you’re going to see is open or not other than that you need to wait for the next bus to come. The Danube cruise they drop you at top 10, but you need to walk down to pair six and go in the building to get your ticket to avoid the cruise. It was nice to say that you went on the Danube but you spent a lot of time waiting for the canal to be water levels to be lowered so that you could enter the canal. The staff on the cruise are friendly. They offered food and beverage, but the cruise is really not long enough for that type of service. The Ferris wheel was very good. You were in a trolley car and you got up to see some amazing sites and views of the city of Vienna. They do take your picture before you get on the trolley like when you go to any other attraction. It’s a suggestible offering and most people end up getting it before you get on the trolley you walk to similar to an amusement park with different rides. They even have a gelato shop. My husband and brother got their gelato and it was very very good. The hop on off off Bus tour with the Danube river, cruise, and the Ferris wheel in a trolley car is worth the money. .
The buses were late. We were not able to take the river cruse even though we had paid $ 95 .00. We could have taken the yellow hop-on hop off for only $ 25.00. The waiting time for yellow ones was much less.
I liked the headphone commentary on the bus & Federico Ariosto was very helpful & informative about timings to do other things so this was a big plus. However we thought the tour was overly long with not particularly interesting content for some of it. This was the red route.
The hop on hop off was okay and a good way to see the sights, but the buses are not as frequent as they said and they don't always show up. I also missed the walking tour as I was told the wrong time and the app/brochure/website have different times. They refused to refund or offer an alternative to the missed walking tour.
Information about Vienna - buildings and history No information about river cruise- so we missed it!!!! Drivers not very helpful
The river boat ride was very boring went 2-3 miles up river and turned around. No guide to point out buildings or architecture
We took the walking tour with Sigi and really enjoyed it! He took his time to explain everything. Easy to understand in English.
The tour itself was excellent. So was the River Cruise on which we had an enjoyable lunch at reasonable price. We did not go on walking tour due to heat and knee problems. The staff were good. The reason I have only given it 3 stars is that of the 5 journeys we took only two of the buses had air conditioning. The temperature was in the 90s which made the whole experience very un comfortable.
Big scam, i chose this line because of the walk tour and the cruise. They are both a big trap and a scam. The walk tour the guide was mainly talking about coffee shops and tips and prices. The cruise was my worst ever, i chose the river one line B. My first day cruise was canceled without any warning so i went the following day. We spent 5 min in the river then 15 min stopping then he went into the canal. We saw nothing Except ugly graffiti and trees. Then crew said we need to leave the ship. It was so difficult to find the hoho stop. No one adviced that cruise start at stop 11 and should end at stop 8. So upset lost 2 hours ugly experience, if you choose this bus for tour and cruise, my advice they are both so bad.
River cruise all industrial - very boring. Walking tour totally focused on coffee and food not the city at all. Tour guide could also not walk! Commentary on the bus was far from the normal big bus standard, it was very limited. Very disappointing.
None really. It was a very long slow trip. The river trip was disappointing. We did not go very far. We spent a lot of time waiting in a channel.
The fact that prior to the tickets being issued I discovered that even though I had searched for Paris I was given Vienna I contacted Viator and was told that they couldn’t change the booking even though the tickets still didn’t come through for over an hour after I made contact I then tried to change the booking through the bus company which they also couldn’t do as the booking was made via Viator My advise is DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
Extremely disappointed. The bus was waiting a long time in each stop. Not good description of places. No air condition in the bus in the temp of 33 degrees. The walking tour (11:30) today was the worst tour we have ever gone to. The tour guide only talked about places to eat and food. In one hour he only showed us two places - so we left after 1 terrible hour. We will never recommend this to any of our friends. Total waste of money.
The hop on hop off bus was great!! However the nature river cruise was awful. The outside speakers weren’t working and the bench seat was very uncomfortable for an almost 2 hour boring boat trip.
This little smart boy David was very helpful and kind to everyone he told us some kinds of informations that we didn’t know he told us how exiting is the bus tour and we hopped on it was very beautiful it was really good
Really worthwhile doing at the beginning of your stay in Vienna as it may inspire your choice of activities thereafter. I highly recommend the WALKING TOUR aspect. 90 minutes or so in length and the best part of the entire experience. We had a wonderful guide called BRIGITTE. She was fantastic 👏
Great way to see what is worth visiting and to orientate yourself. Two routes available. Blue and Red. Also had the Danube canal cruise and the English speaking "Walking tour" with Max, which was not offered when purchasing a bus ticket on the day.
We went on the boat ride first. We followed the instructions of how to get to the ticket office, but the person working had no idea what to do and sent us to the dock. We were very lucky to find a kind member of staff who called their admin team agreed we could have a ticket based on the booking details we had. The boat ride consists of looking at mainly residential buildings, lots of detailed graffiti to look at, if you like that! The ride is smooth but not really my thing. The next day we went on both bus routes and learned a lot. Make sure you download the Big Bus App so you can track the buses, locate the bus stops and see what they look like. It also gives you detail of each stop and what is there! Really good App! The second bus we went on had a perspex roof that you couldn't see through, so that hampered what we could see!
Interesting historical facts to learn on 2 wide-ranging routes across the city. Many hop-on, hop-off stops. Great view on climate-controlled buses.
Being able to get around to all the main sites in one easy way instead of having to check out local public transport and work out the best way to get around
Bought a 48 hr package because I wanted the Danube cruise. Nobody explained there was no cruise on the Danube in winter although this is how they present their package! Left me on Pier 3 with no information! It was wet, windy and cold (6degrees C) and it was getting dark! I will never forget that experience! I had to find my way back to the city, on my own expense. I would not recommend this company . They don't know what they are doing, the communication is zero (getting any kind of information from their drivers is like pulling teeth). I discussed with their sales staff twice and they couldn't be bothered to explain that their Danube River cruise was not actually a river cruise in winter but a small graffitti canal cruise ( who wants that?); also they could not explain how & where exactly you are required to exchange your tickets for their cruise.
Good way to get a look around Vienna. Although hard to get your bearings as it seems to have to take so many twists and turns to get around the. Can wait while 20-30 minutes between buses bit frustrating in one just drove off.
Always enjoy the hop on/off yours. Only reason for 4 not 5 stars was that person that gave us tickets didn't say there were 2 totally different buses! Found out when on wrong bus it wouldn't take us to where we had tickets. Needed to find closest stop to other bus, walk a few blocks, then get on correct bus.
Excellent tour, Paul was extremely helpful and offered the right tour for my visit. One of the best city tours I've done.
Excellent value! Highlight was definitely the walking tour with a local guide. Claudia was fabulous. A nearly two hour tour of city center buildings, museums, sites that included excellent insight about Austria’s history. The Danube River cruise was nice, but nothing special. Although the boat had plenty of seating with very reasonable prices for food and beverages. The narration on the buses was quite good. The roof on the second level is very low. Need to duck if you are six foot tall. Biggest frustration was late afternoon on day 2. Lots of traffic which means long periods between stops.
Very good experience Staff were not Grumpy as our previous experience has been in other countries. One suggestion. When people are getting off to go to a certain park or a palace as advertised on the big bus map, it is a good idea they are given directions on the bus. Not knowing the language we found great difficulty in locating the places after we got down from the bus.
We take hop on hop off tours in most cities we visit. In Vienna, the bus is required to have a roof, so if it’s hot outside it’s like sitting in a greenhouse. One bus we were in had an open back instead of windows and it was more comfortable. At one point on the first bus we moved to the bottom level for air conditioning. That was ok until the driver changed and there was no more air conditioning and it was sweltering. Walking tour was worthwhile, didn’t do the boat tour after reading reviews. Audio was the best we’ve had on hop on hop off tours.
Big bus was great, walking tour of palaces with Max was fabulous. Sadly, the River tour was cancelled, but we’d already paid through TripAdvisor. Best to buy your tickets at the stops. The people are all friendly and knowledgeable. Great overview of city to get ready to dig into it.
Convenient way of getting an introduction to the city. Many stops to get access to the important places. Top deck and ability to open the windows give you access to take photos. 2 routes ( palace route and city route) each approximately 2 hours. I booked for a combined ticket with boat cruise as well but many cruises were cancelled for that day and that was not informed properly . So I had to do the circle to get back to the places I wanted to see in the city area. There were no buses in the reverse direction! Even the other route (palace route)bus didn’t connect to the cruise area.
The Guided walking tour is a great orientation to the history and culture of the city . Highly recommend
I spend two days in Vienna with my friend. We purchased the 48 hours ticket with guided walking tour. Best way to discover this beautiful city! Easy to hop -on hop -off follow by map. Nice and clean, bus, enjoyable, memorable trip. Walking guided tour 1-1.5 hour, must go. She was excellent!
If you really want to get to know Vienna and its outskirts this is an excellent overview. You quickly get a map in your head of not only where the main tourist spots are but also the uniqueness of Vienna. This prompted us on our final day to visit the Bundesbad Alte Donau and swim outside in the lake - truly wonderful
Expensive. You wait ages at every stop for a rep to sell tickets. Service finishes too early. You’re far better off using public transport. Very cheap and very efficient. No waiting endlessly at every stop. I would say the guided audio was pretty good but didn’t sway me from the poor review. Don’t waste your money.
Dale was a kind and helpful as is possible. He was fantastic. Got us set up with a great plan to compliment our time in Vinnea. Furthermore, he was very kind and personable and his English was perfect which was a big help for us. Highly recommend.
With so much to see in Vienna, a 48-hour Hop-On Hop Off Big Bus ticket was the perfect way to find your way around and learn about such a lovely city. Sales staff Paul & Richard were extremely helpful in explaining what we could do on our City break and a big thank you goes to Rafiki, their sales team leader for his time helping us to resolve a lost property incident. We always use the Big Buses when we visit cities, they are always good and Vienna was our best experience.
Quite informative, bus is not open top but had a clear roof & open sides, good if rains but very hot in sun. I definitely wouldn't bother with the river cruise, we spent about 25 in a lock, 15 on river and rest on canal. The bus driver must give separate ticket for cruise, which didn't happen and the ticket must be exchanged at the office near the pier stop. This is fine if you go from the city stop 8 but difficult to find office at stop 11 and they don't all come and go from same stop. At stop 11 it clearly states leaves from Pier 8 where the bus stops, it actually goes from Pier 6!! Be useful to know difference between cruise A B & C. Overall one big hassle and not much to see for price. 10% cheaper if booked online. Big Bus needs to sort this out.
The two bus tours cover all the main sections and attractions in the Vienna area. You can get off and on at all the main items of interest. The buses were fuller in the mornings, with more seats available in the afternoon. We found it was better to do the full tours first and then stop off at the interesting areas the next day, so a two day ticket is best. If you want to day a cruise it is better value to add to the bus ticket. The full price of the cruise is much dearer and to be honest the views on the river are poor and certainly not worth the full cost if bought separately.
The whole experience and friendly staff loved the 2 days we used the hop on hop off bus and the river cruise was lovely relaxing enjoyable experience with great food
We bought a 48 hour Hop-On-Hop-Off with guided walking tour. Claudia, our guide, was an excellent storyteller and we really enjoyed!
Excellent service provided by Rafiki in Vienna. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Professional and helped us plan our trip. The buses were very clean and a very informative guide
The bus tour was ok but as for the cruise section, it was a disgrace. We are in our early eighties but there was a crush on the boat and nowhere to sit as it was so crowded. We had no option but to leave as we were not prepared to stand for the 90 minutes the boat cruise lasted. Nor could we wait for the bus to return, so had to get an Uber back to our hotel. Will never book anything like this on line again.
Bus is reliable but the audio tour is sparse so not really worth it (compared to public transport). Definitely don’t buy the cruise package - it’s just on the canal so you’re basically cruising past highways the whole time. If you want a cruise do one that actually goes on the Danube.
