Katarina was very well versed in her knowledge, friendly, and funny! We loved our tour and would go again anytime to Vienna.

Itinerary
We begin our encounter with the astonishing High Baroque Schönbrunn Palace (built to rival Versailles) with a stroll through the magnificent formal gardens, exploring the Baroque landscaping principle of interlaced nature and architecture that is illustrated everywhere in the layout of the grounds. Approaching the Gloriette, a huge triumphal arch situated on a hilltop with panoramic views of Vienna’s woods, we recall the military victories that made Empress Maria Theresa’s reign (1740-1780) a highpoint of the Habsburg dynasty’s political and cultural dominance in Europe. The park was opened not only to the court but to the general public from 1779, a populist gesture that reveals Maria Theresa’s canny charm offensive towards her subjects. Indeed, it was under Maria Theresa’s direction that Schönbrunn Palace became the focal point of Austria’s imperial policy and the centre of court life, in addition to functioning as the summer residence of a reigning family counting not less than 16 children! Several of this teaming brood of young royals did not survive to adulthood but the palace preserves the memory of their infancy, childhood summer activities, illnesses and early loss.
Generations of Habsburg rulers put their stamp on Schönbrunn. The Franz-Joseph & Elisabeth Apartments tell the story of a couple torn apart by the burdens of state. In 1854, Emperor Franz Joseph married the Bavarian princess Elizabeth (known better under the affectionate nickname Sisi) who despised the rituals of court life and the ornate environment of the summer palace. Visiting one lavish room after another gives us an ample sense of the opulence which country-reared Sisi fled: The dining room with precious tableware and “imperial napkins” in the form of a “fleur de lys” witnessed countless state dinners; the Hall of Ceremonies records the pompous Baroque celebrations it hosted, such as the wedding of Crown Prince Joseph, depicted in a series of scenes by court painter Martin van Meytens; the so-called “Porcelain Room” (office of Maria Theresa), completely done in imitation of precious china with orientalist drawings drafted by the imperial children. The unique “Millions Room” owes its name to a fabulous price in gold ducats paid for it: antiquated Indo-Persian miniatures with rococo-frames, wall hangings manufactured of carved rosewood from the Antilles make the “Millions chamber” one of the most accomplished combinations of Oriental and European decorative art from the Rococo era.

Johanna was an excellent guide who navigated crowds with finesse to optimize our experience. Her knowledge sharing was thoughtful and helped us put the history in proper perspective. It is worth the climb to the Gloriette.
Stephan was very friendly and easy to ask questions to. He had good information on every question. He helped ensure we got the most out of the tour. Highly recommended.
Meeting our guide was easy as was getting our tickets, and bypassing the lines to get into the palace. Stefan our guide was knowledgeable, pleasant, fun and focused. We were able to see a great deal of the palace rather quickly, learning more than those around us as his commentary was directed exactly to us and where we were in the palaces, as well as very deep if we asked to dive into any topic. It made the most of our time without any feeling of being rushed, highly recommend.
Loved the tour. Kristina was great. We were lucky in that it was just the two of us so it was kind of like a private tour. Kristina was very informative and gave us tons of helpful information and history
We took a small group tour with Kristina. As it happened, we were the only two this time so it was more like a private tour. Score! She was wonderful. Friendly and informative. She explained about each of the rooms usage and the history of the Hapsburg family. Not just dates, but who they were personally and their stories which I find more interesting. Not only was it an interesting tour, but she gave us some great recommendations on restaurants, dishes, we should try and some places we should consider visiting. All in all an excellent experience.
Excellent guide inside the castle, a lot of history knowledge, but she live us in the garden without the tour or advise what to see.
Great tour. Highly recommend Elisabeth. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and provided a lot of great information. Can highly recommend without reservations.
Our tour guide, Alexander, really knew his history when it came to this tour. If you are into details and stories of what life was like back in the time that the palace was most active, he is your guide. The rooms are stunning and the information that you come out of it with will stay with you for a long time. You can tell that Alex has a true passion for history and this particular gem.
Wolfgang was a very knowlegeable guide after being a career attorney. He met us ontime and got us into an Uber following the tour.
This is a stunning palace, steeped in history. Catarina was an excellent guide. We knew a little of the history and learned much more. Thank you!
This turned out to be a private tour. Stefan was fabulous! He shared so much information and the palace and gardens were amazing. A must see!
This is one of the must see places in Vienna and you need to do it with a knowledgeable guide. Katarina was great, she blended the history with the stories and "gossips" of the imperial court, making the tour very informative and fun. Highly recommend her.
We thought our guide Biljana was just excellent. Schönbrunn is also very much worth seeing, more so than the Hofburg as it has more styles of room design than the latter. Biljana was very knowledgeable and sensitive to the pace that we were able to go, being seniors. We recommend this tour highly.
The tour guide was superb. The tour itself was enlightening and informative, and she was very good on detail and we lucked out with perfect weather so a tour of the Gardens turned out to be better than we expected all in all a perfect day.
Our guide was excellent! She was very knowledgeable about all things to do with the palace. She also knew all of the ins and outs pertaining to our palace tour. I highly recommend Katarina for your guided palace trip!
My wife and I took a small group tour of the Schonbrunn Palace on a rainy day last week that was led by the fabulous Biljana. Despite the steady rain, she was very cheerful and her attitude spread to us - we were the only couple, so it was basically a private tour. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a very digestible history of the long Hapsburg Dynasty as we walked through the palace. Lots of explanations of why certain events happened rather than concentrating on just the dates. We are an older couple and she was very accommodating to our needs, and she swooped in and grabbed chairs for my wife to sit every now and then in the different rooms. She was good about quizzing you, but with no pressure, to make sure we understood her explanations. Given the weather outside, she kept our tour to the inside of the palace, but explained the set up of the gardens and invited us to walk on our own after the tour. We declined, so she took us to the cafe for a light lunch and before leaving, marked up our city map what some private spots we might want to visit. Finally, she followed up with a WhatsApp text with reminder information and links. All and all, a very professional and experienced tour guide who we would highly recommend.
Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The tour was a great way to learn about and experience the Schonbrunn Palace!
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of very useful and fun information. She was also very accommodating to our wishes. Very highly recommended!!
We saw so much of the palace. And even in Fall the gardens were beautiful. Our tour guide Catarina was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant.
The personal tour with tour guide, Selin, was excellent. The palace rooms and grounds were breathtaking and we learned a great deal about the royal family, the history and culture from our knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly guide. We would highly recommend this tour.
Our personal guide, Stephan, was amazing. Give this guy a big raise! This is a “can’t miss” for any visit to Vienna.
Thank you Wolfgang for a wonderfully informative tour. We really appreciated the additional photos and material you brought along to show some extra history. Topped of with a trip to a 'locals' cafe away from the crowds for some welcomed refreshments. E rigging recommend this tour.
Excellent guide and so willing to explain the timelines of the Habsburg and their reign. All her exhibits showed the power they exhibited for 600 years. Her side tales of the conspiracy room, the use of monkeys, mini Mozart in paintings and explaining their daily lives really added to the story. Highly recommend! She was delightful and well informed. One of the best Viator tours we have experienced. Really love the small group of 4 people.
Annelie was an EXCELLENT tour guide. She checked in with our interests at the beginning so she could curate the tour better. Her extra maps, drawings and photos that she brought helped to add some depth and extra history to everything. Very knowledgeable and overall a joy to work with!!! Highly recommend!!
Our tour guide Katrina was wonderful. We learned a lot about Austria’s history and the royal families that ruled the region during the tour. The palace is awesome but the grounds and gardens are very impressive also. Be sure to follow the guide’s directions and don’t get tickets in advance; that includes the Vienna Card. We almost ended up having to miss the first hour of the tour by having the Vienna card because Katrina needed to buy all the tickets on her reservation, but with the Vienna card, our tickets had to be purchased separately, and they gave us a later entry time.
Thorough & detailed exploration of Schonbrunn Palace inside & out. Enjoyed the enthusiasm of the guide with her background as historian.
Katarina was fantastic! Great communicator and extensive historical knowledge- highly recommend! The Schönbrunn Palace and gardens are deserving of a full day. Bring a picnic and enjoy strolling the grounds after the tour. There’s a cafe and an excellent restaurant if you need sustenance. It gets very busy so go early- enjoy! Mary Ann
This is a remarkable summer palace and well worth the trip to see it. A must see for Vienna. The guide, however, made it even more special since she was very knowledgeable and give us a much deeper understanding of the history of the site that an audio tour simply cannot do. She was really excellent and we were lucky to have her.
Even for the non-historian, we found this the right amount of history to absorb. Our guide was excellent and took us through the 40 rooms. Skip the line was excellent. The gardens were amazing and worth walking up to the top of the hill. Only comment was tour could give exact address for pick-up point.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative and made the visit to Schonbrunn exciting and interesting. Would definitely recommend
Biljana was wonderful! Knowledge of historical facts and fictions & folklore kept all of us engaged. Patience to listen and focus to keep us moving forward was greatly appreciated.
Biljana was an excellent guide. Full of energy, extremely knowledgeable and interesting. Traveling with my 21 year old son who was fully captured by the visit. Highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour of the Schönbrunn palace. Katarina was very knowledgeable and provided fun and engaging insights throughout the entire tour.
Katrina was our guide and she was great and very knowledgeable. It was a wonderful tour that we would highly recommend.
Biljana was one of the top guides we’ve experienced in over 40 years of international travel. Thorough knowledge of palace history and players with some royal gossip along the way. Schönbrunn’s interiors are both breathtaking and memorable—as are the vast and manicured grounds. A stop at the cafe in the way out was the perfect end to a great half-day tour.
We had an excellent guide who was so knowledgeable and a great way of explaining things to us. The tour was so informative and entertaining. Highly recommended!!
This is a highly-recommended tour. Our guide was thoroughly knowledgeable in the history of the Habsburg dynasty, particularly in the context of the Schonbrunn Palace. We completed our tour with a good understanding of the Palace's purpose and construction, and the purpose and usage of each of its important rooms. The Gardens tour was equally satisfying.
Katarina gave us an excellent in-depth tour of Schōnbrunn palace. She teally made the tour interesting and informative . Highly recommend!!
Loved the tour. Biljana was a very knowledgeable, personable tour guide. Thought it was much more engaging and helped things come alive more to hear the stories of each room from her rather than from an audio commentary -- she clearly made an effort to put the information together in an engaging and yet informative way (side note -- I found her recommendation of where to go for good apfel strudel to be spot on :) ). The price was a bit high (and even higher with the entry fee not being included in the tour fee), but in my view well worth it as it helped us make the most of our limited time here and gave us an opportunity to spend time in rooms with someone clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the history behind them.
We have had many experiences with tour guides over the years, but this was not my favorite. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable, but I felt like we missed out on much of the information that would have been available on the audio tour. We did get to go almost straight in, but I wish we heard many of the details about the items in each room.
Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. She picked up on things we were interested in, and pointed out applicable things.
Our guide, Biljana, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We greatly enjoyed our tour. There’s so much to see after the tour in the gardens and zoo that you’ll want to spend the whole day there.
Wonderful, knowledgeable guide, with a real interest in the history of Austria. We loved all the history of the Hapsburg empire.
Our guide Edward Mueller did a great job with the history of the palace. He’s a definite gentleman and always went one step beyond. Great tour! Would suggest labeling the brown building meeting point. We felt we needed to go inside the gates and of course seen the ticket office. The brown building doesn’t show signage from across the street. Perhaps paint the building another color.
Great tour! Our tour guide, Biljana was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to share with us many interesting facts and stories about the palace and empire with her wit and charm. Would highly recommend this tour
We had a brilliant guided tour, tailored to our interest in history especially Sisi and the architecture of Schloss Schönbrunn. Our guide Annelie was a veritable fountain of knowledge which she shared in a lovely and engaging manner with lots of little snippets and anecdotes which made the whole morning very memorable. Her audio sets were also genius because it meant we could follow her historical explanations despite the June crowds. Would warmly recommend if you want a bit more out of your tour of this fantastic palace.
Well organized tour and learned so much in 2 1/2 hours. Much better than being herded around with a large group. Guide was so friendly and knowledgeable.
We LOVED this tour!!! Katrina was incredibly knowledgeable and answered our questions with astonishing expertise. The Palace was incredible and my family said later we never would have wanted to see it without the guided tour to help us understand all the incredible history we were seeing and really bring it to life. I fully recommend this tour!
The tour guide was very nice and tried to answer all the questions. I personally feel I could have gotten more from an audio tour.c
