The entire trip was great. Our guide, Josef, was wonderful. The driver, I believe his name was Marten, was also fantastic. We had a large group of family (14) and they took great care of all of us. The stops were also lovely along the way as our tour was from Vienna to Salzburg. This tour has sound of music stops and cultural stops. This tour does not include the gazebo. So if you want a full sound of music tour then you may wish to book a different tour. The only issue we had was the speaker in the tour van was not great. It was completely muffled for those in the back.

In Salzburg you will be joined by a local expert guide who will take you on an extensive walking tour: hear intriguing stories about the history and the city’s famous inhabitants while you see the most important sights. Among other things you see Mozart's birthplace, the colorful gardens of the Mirabell Palace (the 'DoReMi' song was filmed here), the cemetery of the abbey of St. Peter (the Trapp-family hid there), the festival area, the Archbishop’s Palace and the cathedral.
After the walking tour spend a couple of hours in Salzburg for lunch, do some shopping or explore the city further on your

Reviews
The drive through Vienna woods and lake region. But the highlight was Salzburg drive and walking tour! Uley did an excellent job!!
Our guide Josef was OUTSTANDING--kind, patient, professional, & knowledgeable. We loved every aspect of the tour.
Ulrich, our guide was wonderful - very knowledgeable and helpful. He made this tour special. I reccomend the tour as it gives you flexibility to spend as much or as little time you want in each location.
Julio was just great, i appreciated his kindness, explanations and amability. The tour in salzburg with naomi was so quick, i think could be more than this. Generally, the tour agency could inform customers of the closing stores bcoz of the christmas night. All stores were closed on 15h00. Or may be delete completely this tour, it would be fair.
Absolutely loved this tour. Our tour guide, Flemming, was an encyclopedia of history and Austria. He narrated our tour to Salzburg pointing out interesting places along the way. We stopped at several places along the way to allow us to see some sites. Salzburg was amazing and so was our local guide. Well worth spending a little extra to go with Vienna a la Carte.
Spent an entire day from Vienna to Salzburg with small group in a comfortable minivan. Both Markus and Noami were friendly, knowledgeable and fun! The tour was perfectly scheduled with 3 stops in lake towns on the way to Salzburg. Very interesting and relaxing. Would highly recommend! Thanks!
This was a great day trip to Vienna with added bonus of visiting the Austria Lake Area and St. Gilgen. St. Gilgen is a great bonus to the visit to Salzburg.
This is a wonderful trip worth every penny. very beautiful Lake District, Salzburg and sounds of music sights scene. big thanks for Markus our driver and guide, he is very informative, helpful, funny making the trip joyful. and in our way back to vienna, there is an I pad for each passenger where its play sounds of music,, and that was just WOW!
Right from the first interaction with Flemming to the drive to Salzburg & back, it has been one of my favorite parts of the trip. Flemming was not only kind & courteous, he was exceptionally knowledgable & patiently walked us through the entire history of Austria and the war. It was indeed a pleasure to drive with him. Salzburg is a quaint tiny town with some fantastic views and the Mozart house. Please do not miss that incase you head there. I fell in love with the Gilget town where we stopped on the way to Salzburg. Another star was the red Bull HQ pointed out to us by Flemming on our way to salzburg. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the day!
The van driver/tour guide Ton was so incredible. He’s very knowledgeable and gave really interesting information on the drive. You can’t find a better tour guide. Maria, the local on the ground guide in Salzburg, was also terrific. I’m not sure how they managed to provide two wonderful guides. A perfect and very memorable day!
Juan was very knowledgeable about the history of the country and pointed out interesting area during the drive Excellent driver our safety was his priority
Loved it, week made by this tour, despite the price it was made worth it by the comfort of the mini van, free water provided, multiple stops to our hearts content and enough free time in Salzburg although could have done with half an hour more
We had a wonderful time on our day trip to Salzburg. We met our guide Alex who offered us historical background of Austria as well as the cultural significance of Vienna, the lake region, and Salzburg. The stops along the way in the lake region offered stunning views of rural Austra. Upon arriving in Salzburg, our local guide offered an amazing walking tour pointing out recognizable sights from the Sound of Music and the life of Mozart. The free afternoon allowed us time to explore the hidden streets, visit shops, and enjoy lunch & an afternoon beer. The ride to and from Salzburg was very comfortable.
We were met at our hotel by our driver Flemming. He was punctual, friendly and extremely knowledgable. We had a very comfortable van that was supplied with bottled water for the three hour drive to Salzburg. Our driver told us so much about Austrian history and kept us spell-bound the whole way to Salzburg. He drove us through the beautiful lake district and we stopped to take breath-taking pictures. We stopped for a short ice-cream break in St. Gilgen a pretty little village that just happened to be the hometown of Mozarts mother. It was a gorgeous town by the water. Once in Salzburg we were met by our guide who took us by foot and showed us all the highlights of Salzburg. She was very interesting and knowledgable. We saw many places that were central in "The Sound of Music" movie. We also saw Mozarts childhood home which is now a museum. We walked around the town and went up to the Salzburg Fortress. The views were awesome! We stopped at a local restaurant and ate lunch. After a great day in Salzburg we met back up with our driver Flemming for the ride back to our hotel in Vienna. He had many more things to tells us about the history of Austria. We were very pleased with our trip and highly recommend it to everyone!
We had a great time on our day trip to Salzburg. Travel there and back was very convenient and comfortable. It was nice seeing the lakes on the way, and our tour through Salzburg was nice and informative. We had plenty of free time to get lunch on our own and check out the attractions that interested us the most. I would highly recommend it.
I am one of the biggest “Sound of Music” fans on this planet, and I was very happy with our Salzburg local guide who provided us with a beautiful and informative walking tour of Salzburg. The trip to and from, including the Lakes Region, were also very nice!
There aren’t enough adjectives to express how wonderful the Salzburg day trip is from Vienna so I will simply advise those who are debating taking it to please do so without hesitation. The initial pick up point could not be easier to find (although that didn’t stop one member of our group from being able to locate it - more about that later). Our driver Ben was already parked in place earlier than we were instructed to meet him and kindly introduced himself, refunded our taxi fare on the spot, and recommended a perfect spot to grab some coffee before we left on our way. Since one group member was strangely unable to locate the meeting point Ben gave her an ample grace period before kindly phoning her to let her know that the rest of the group needed to hit the road and couldn’t be further delayed. Once we got going, Ben quickly made up for lost time and had informative narrative to provide as we traveled. The two pre-Salzburg stops seemed to arrive in no time and provided us with adequate opportunity to roam around the respective areas and take in the delightful tableaux. Once we made it to Salzburg, Ben left us in the capable hands of our guide Gaby who was utterly charming and delightful as she walked us all through Salzburg’s wonderful landmarks and made recommendations for our free time that was to follow (she was truly such a memorable pleasure). After spending another few hours enjoying all that Salzburg has to offer, we easily found Ben for our smooth return back to Vienna where we passed the time with The Sound of Music viewing in the sprinter van to tie it all together (because how could you not). NB, the van has free WiFi and is soon to be outfitted with USB ports so you needn’t worry about being adequately juiced for your day. TL;DR don’t think twice about booking your day trip to Salzburg with Vienna à la carte - this is one that you don’t want to miss.
Well informed, safe, and friendly driver to and from Salzburg. So many wonderful things to see in Salzburg - and the local guide was excellent with suggestions of what to do and where to go. Finally, excellent response by staff with helping us locate a misplaced bag.
Vienna a la Carte was the only tour company that was willing to pick us up in Vienna, deliver us to Krems for a Danube cruise, pick us up at the other end of the cruise in Melk, arrange a Melk Abbey guided tour and then drive us to Salzburg at the end of the day. We really appreciated their flexibility in putting something together that wasn't pre-packaged and we had a great day.
Our driver, Ton, had loads of interesting information on absolutely everything! Enough stops on route and watched The Sound of Music on our way back. A delightful day.
Very good tour and nice van for our small tour group. Free Wifi and Ipad for each seat in the van, like you taking the plane though. As a small group, we can decided some of our stop too. Must do!
Was a great trip and our guide did a good job even though he is new at this. His speech delivery could be better but that comes with experience. The long drive going was broken up with rest and picture stops so that wasn't too bad. Coming home we watched the Sound of Music movie most of the way. Was almost 3 hrs long. Rained on us so that wasn't too enjoyable but such is life. Only saw a couple of places where some of the movie was shot so don't think you will see a lot relating to the movie. Still I enjoyed seeing Salzburg and the scenery on the way.
We were spending only a few nights in Vienna but we REALLY wanted to go see Salzburg (Sound of Music, anyone?!) Though we were apprehensive about joining a tour group at first, we decided it would be great to join this one so we could be more efficient with time, as we could only spend one day in Salzburg. We really enjoyed doing this tour with Ben, our driver and guide, and we were super comfortable in an awesome van with cushy seats and iPads (so we could re-watch the Sound of Music again, of course!) Ben was very knowledgable and engaging, answered all our questions throughout the drive. He also didn't mind our corny Sound of Music jokes - which I am sure they get a lot of! I particularly enjoyed the view of the hills and lakes we passed by, and we were able to stop at a couple of them for some photos on the way to Salzburg. Our walking tour guide in Salzburg was a lovely lady named Lisa who told us a great bit about the city's history and gave us recommendations on where to eat or other places we could explore in the couple hours we had free to walk around. I really thought I would be too exhausted by the end of it, because the tour itinerary looked really extensive. But thanks to great time management, a suuuper comfy ride, and really fun and engaging tour guides, it was a breeze! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone off to Salzburg!
Very nice experience in a beautiful small city. But the local Salzburg tour was too short, only 1.5 hours, and we didn't get a chance to see the Schloss Leopoldskorn. The Lake area is very beautiful, but we were unfortunate as it was raining.
Travel escort was very knowledgeable, as was the local expert. The drive to Salzburg was beautiful and the time spent in Salzburg, especially viewing the Sound of Music locations, was great.
The day trip was great. Loved the sights on the drive there and in Salzburg. It was a great day! Ben, our driver and guide to Salzburg and our walking tour guide, David, were both great, they made the trip informative and fun!
The tour was extremely well organized and timed to maximize our enjoyment of the full day trip to Salzburg. Our driver-guide, Sylvia, is personable, professional, and very pleasant. She is an excellent driver and her commentary contributed to our understanding and appreciation of the history and the culture of the region.
We booked the private day trip to Salzburg from Vienna which consisted of 6 people total on the tour which really made the trip even better by having that flexibility with the timing of the day. Our tour guide/driver was Ben and he was great and full of information. He made everyone feel very comfortable and offered to make any additional stops if necessary. We made many stops along the way and were able to see many smaller towns along the lakes. The day trip also included a walking tour in Salzburg which was very informational as well. Overall it was a great day!
This is what touring should be all about. Excellent tour guide/driver (Ton) spacious vehicle with WiFi, prompt, on board iPad and power for your phone, great spots selected for those unique photo opportunities, knowledgeable guide when in Salzburg, plenty of time allocated to do some sightseeing and a drop off at your hotel. This is worth a 5/5 rating. Highly recommend this one if you are after a full days activities.
Ben, out driver was really helpful and experience driver. He is helpful and offered plenty of advice and input abt Salzburg and the Lake areas. We truly enjoyed our trip and Ben and Naomi made it worth the while to come back to Austria again
Pick up at Tourist information office in central Veinna (Opera House) Excellent guide, excellent van. The mountains lakes and little villages were stunning. Salzburg old town and our lovely guide was fun. Then in my free time I walked up to and around castle. Very impressed. Excellent service.
What a wonderful day! Ben was the driver for our party of 7 and we were promptly picked up in a Mercedes van with i-pads and wifi for everyone. We saw beautiful sights and stopped for photos enroute to Salzburg. We met Naomi for our tour of Salzburg which was fabulous. We opted to have a horse drawn carriage tour (which they booked ahead of time for us) instead of a walking tour due to some mobility issues in our party. It was so much fun! Naomi was just fabulous and a wealth of information. I would highly recommend this day trip and ask for Ben as your driver. Not only is he adorable, but so much fun and shared so many stories with us.
