This was too expensive. You basically pay for a private car trip to the city of Salzburg with no tour guide. Our driver was very nice and we appreciated the drive but the car ride was all we got and it was incredibly over priced. We had to buy a separate tour when we got to Salzburg. We would have been better off getting the train to Salzburg and the Sound of Music tour. And it would have cost significantly less.

Itinerary
Your private tour will start with a pick-up from your hotel/accommodation in Vienna at the pre-arranged time. Sit back in your private transportation and admire the scenery of the West of Austria.
Your first stop will be the Benedictine abbey, above the town of Melk. The Benedictine abbey is on a rocky outcrop and overlooking the Danube river. The abbey contains remains of several members of the House of Babenberg, Austria's first ruling dynasty and the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau. We will take you to the top of Abbey, from where you will have a breathtaking view of town Melk.
After the Benedictine abbey, your tour continues into the Lake of District and passes through the picturesque towns like Bad Ischl. You will stop at the beautiful Hallstatt village, Austria’s oldest and possibly most photographed village, famous for its salt production. Discover a subterranean salt lake and the mummy of a prehistoric miner - preserved in salt. Hallstatt is such a unique place that there is even a copy of the village in China.
Your final stop will be Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and the town of music. Feel the atmosphere of Mozart's hometown while visiting Salzburg’s top sights such as UNESCO protected Old Town, Fortress as well as “The Sound of Music” filming locations. In the afternoon drive back to your hotel/accommodation in Vienna.

1. Nice tour guide but not very knowledgeable in explaining the full history 2. Recommended not to visit a lot of things given the timeline 3. 1 day tour to 3 places is not recommended to enjoy it all 4. Did not provide any water for the long haul trip
Horrible tour. Our tour guide was sick so didn’t want to explain anything to us. As soon as he would talk he would cough like a dog. If we asked him anything he would get upset. It felt like we paid for the car and driver service. Train would have been much better. Total waste of money. I highly recommended my friends about Viator as they use get your guide and were totally disappointed.
This tour was very disappointing. We paid for the private tour, which was costly. We were told we would have 1 hour in Melk, 1 1/2 hours in Halstatt, and 3 hours in Salzburg. Our driver offered us an extra stop, which was very scenic and we enjoyed it. The extra stop was approximately 1 hour. Melk was a waste of time for 1 hour. There was NO way you could enter the Monastery and walk around in an hours time, so that could have been skipped altogether. Of course we did not know that. Halstatt was beautiful, but again so busy that all we had time to do was eat lunch. When we got to Salzburg we were told we would only have 1 hour. What? We drive all this way for 1 hour! Ridiculous. Driver said if we gave him 30 euro more we could stay in Salzburg for 2 hours. Very disappointing. I understand making Salzburg 2 hours because we added the extra stop for 1 hour, but why only hour in Salzburg. Driver did not speak very good English, was a horrible, horrible driver, and never said 1 thing about The Sound of Music, so not sure how they can say it has anything to do with this tour. Save Your money and take the train. Not only is it safer, you'll have more time.
I’m not one to leave a bad review, but truly the worst tour experience. The drivers were rude and drove irresponsibly. Then in Salzburg, the drivers dropped one of our vans off in the wrong location with no direction where the rest of our group was. Two of the guests that were left lost were over 70 years old and another guest was severely disabled with brain cancer. We were also told we would have a tour guide meet us at 11:30 and no one was there until 1:00. Please don’t book this vendor. Super unprofessional. We ended up booking other transportation back to Vienna.
It was a great way to see places that we could not have found on our own. The car was nice with huge windows so we could view the scenery on the way. Victor was extremely prompt and gave great directions on where to go and what time to meet up
We joined the Private Day Tour of Salzburg, Hallstat & Melk from Vienna on 26 Dec 2023. Our driver Ivan had done a great job to drive us to the destinations and back to Vienna safely. Many thanks to Ivan! We enjoyed most the sceneries at Hallstat & Salzburg. However, we were a bit disappointed as there were no local guides in view of the expensive package price. Hope the operator/ TripAdvisor can look into this for future improvement. Best regards, KH
Excellent trip. Luka was very knowledgeable and professional. Recommend this tour to snyonr visiting Vienna.
First of all, I want to say actually this was a very good tour to visit but: 8 of us started with the tour in a very happy mood because will visit 3 places in a day, but end up with some disappointed emotion due to a happening after visited Hallstatt for a police inspection between driver, there caused we reached Salzburg in very late evening and couldn’t visit sightseeing in very dark condition. Driver is patience & pleasant but the happenings caused us been wasted time just waiting inside van for about 2 1/2 hours and we didn’t know what’s the incident caused.
The scenery in the Alps were beautiful. Hallstatt was beautiful as well. Unfortunately our tour guide had very little knowledge of the locations that we visited. We were looking forward to. Learning about and seeing were some of the scenes from Sound of Music were filmed. Our tour guide had zero knowledge of the locations
This tour was great, I just wish we had had more time in Salzburg because we got there too late. Otherwise all three locations were beautiful
WARNING THIS IS A CAR SERVICE NOT A TOUR. YOU WILL BE SO DISAPPOINTED. These guys are criminal. Paid over 600 Euro. Driver was from Slovakia with limited English. No idea where he was going. Relied on GPS and still made wrong turns. Smoked so the car reeked. We had to stop for him to smoke. Dropped us off in closed town TWICE. Thankfully I had demanded only 30 minutes. He was trying to make us stay 2 hours. We had 1 pm lunch reservations. Which I advised from the start. Arrived in Salzburg at 1:45 NO LUNCH FOR US BUT CHARGED A CANCELATION FEE. Dropped us off in a Closed park. That was just the best way to end... No information about Austria. Not one bit of information. ZERO. Still trying to wrap my head around this nightmare rip off. You have been warned.
We never went Viator cancelled our trip that was s heduled for over a month at the last minute We were very disappointed as this was a celebration of 38 wedding anniversary
Deyan was an excellent driver on this private trip. He was very nice, and gave us a great drive around these beautiful cities. Now I must say this is not a guided tour, it is simply a tour where you get dropped off in the cities. Deyan did give us a map in Salzburg where you can see the different Sound Of Music sites.
Our request for 2 hotel pick-up and drop-off points were well-accommodated. The three locations were impressive and worth visiting. Our driver was able to provide options for drop-off and pick-up for the 3 locations when we shared our concern about our senior citizen companions. How we wished that our driver shared more about what is special with the locations. It was a disappointment that he only answered whenever we asked. We soon found out that our driver was not from the area and was only 2-3 months in Vienna. How we wished we were provided more interesting facts about the locations. In Salzburg, we were just dropped off in one area and we were provided a map for us to explore. We expected that we will be dropped off in filming locations, but we were left to roam around on our own. It would have been better off to join a Sound of Music tour but we had less time to join one. Generally, it was a worthwhile experience, but how we wished we were toured well.
Beautiful scenery. Great driver Andrew skillfully drove us and entertained us on this long day tour from Vienna and back.

This is a private car driving a group to the 3 towns. The description says tour, the price implies tour, but it was just a car and driver. Had I known that, we would have been better prepared to know what and where to plan to see. Our driver Mateo was a very nice guy. But I could have arranged a driver and a car for half the price. This was very disappointing.
Our guide, Andrew, was very friendly and informative. Our objective of taking up the tour was basically to take in the sights and take tons of pictures which we really did. All three location had their own beauty, especqially Hallstatt. The drive was long but our guide kept us entertained, hence it wasnt boring. Overall the tour was well paced for us. Do note that we werent into shopping. If you intent to do so, an alternative tour that allows you to spend more time on location would be better.
We had a great time with our tour. Melk,Hallstatt and Salzburg are equally beautiful and amazing. Our driver Andrew kept us entertained while we were on the road for over 6 hours.excellent tour and awesome driver
This was a great trip to visit 3 famous places in a short period of time. Friendly, thoughtful and careful driver, Mr Luka making this trip an absolute pleasure. He fetched us from hotel at 7:30am so that we wouldn’t be caught in heavy traffic and wasted time. Destinations were amazing, especially Hallstatt. I would recommend this trip to anyone who has restriction of time but don’t want to miss out these amazing places.
Excellent driver, but not a tour guide. He drove us to our destinations and was very personable, however when we read “private tour”, we had expected that it was going to be guided at each destination with information as we followed our guide- maybe just a mistake on our part for what we read on the site.
Great tour of Melk Abby, Hallstatt and Salzburg! The driver was friendly and knowledgeable. The sites were fantastic. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Ivan was a great driver for a 12 hour trip. He was very accommodating when we wanted to spend more time at a location.
Our Driver Christian gave us superlative service, giving us plenty of time to enjoy our stops and ensuring we saw everything we wanted, as well as everything we needed to see. Chris provided numerous good detailed recommendations that made the most of our time and itenerary. His driving and manners were exemplary. We also enjoyed conversing about Austria, and he shared many anecdotes about things to see in Vienna, as well as his broad knowledge about Austria and its people and history. The personal service of the private tour is highly recommendable and greatly enhanced the overall experience. Thanks again Chris! HIGHLY Recommended.
6 of us took this trip - family and friends- all adults. The car was very comfortable with good leg room. Lucaour driver was friendly and helpful But, I have serious concerns about the safety of this trip. It covers 720 km so most of the day is spent driving. A lot of the driving was 150-160km p hr. these trips are run day after day back to back by the same people. That makes me nervous. The trip is not 12 hours as advertised. It is at least 14. Personallly, the Benedictine Monastery at Melk wasn’t really my thing. We didn’t stop there long enough to explore fully and the driver drops you off so there is no guide to take you round and explain things. And you have to pay to go in. Even though we arrived very early we had to circumvent large coachloads of people. It was a pretty spot though and a world UNESCO heritage site. Saltzberg is small - pretty centre and nice to walk round but by the time you’ve had lunch there isn’t time to go up the cable car or go to the museums and the lack of a guide makes it difficult to really maximise your time there. If I was to go again I would plan that part in advance myself very carefully. Hallstatt was gorgeous. A real gem. It was pouring down when we visited which was a shame. Still worth visiting though. We had very little time there. No time to visit the salt mines or take a boat trip. For my money we’re u to be in Bienna and looking for a day trip I would take the trip to Hallstatt only and visit the mines. It is a 3 hour drive there from Vienna.
Peter was our driver for our day trip from Vienna to Melk, Salzburg and Hallstatt and a few side stops for pictures. Great scenery. We had plenty of time at each stop to walk around. Great driver. Enjoyed the entire day. Thanks!
We got a private car and our driver/guide Kris was excellent. He was knowledgable and courtues. My recommendation is to take this tour if you want to get an overview of what to do at these locations. Melk abby is on the way to Salzburg we stopped for 45 mins, if you are a real history buff I would recommend coming back on your own and spending half a day, as there is the museum and gardens to see, which cost additional. For Salzburg, I know for my self I would need a whole day as there is so much to do and see. But since we were in Vienna for a short time, this was great. Hallstatt also depends on how much you want to stay and what you want to do. Next time I am in town I would go to Salzburg spend a day there and the next day go to Hallstatt as I would like to see the salt mines and spend more time in the town. The thing is the driver on the way to Hallstatt took us through the alpine route which is very beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get a good overall view of these towns.
Nice tour. Very effective tour, we can visit three destination and can see alot. Very beautiful destination. Also very nice driver.
Skip Salzburg, it was a disappointment. It is unclean and the buildings are not as well kept as Vienna. The Monastery in Melk was okay, however take the path into the little village which is way more interesting and you can view the monastery from the outside. Spend more time in Hallstatt, it is stunning, one of the most beautiful spots on earth. More time there would have allowed us to do more in this most beautiful area. Our driver was great, prompt, safe and courteous. Skip Salzburg, a waste of time,
I had booked a private tour from Vienna to Melk Abbey, Hallstatt & Salzburg months ago for my daughter's college graduation present. I have sent 4 messages to confirm pick up time for my tour tomorrow with no confirmation or even "Let me check and get back with you" ... Just silence. I then contacted Viator who would only respond that I needed to get with the tour operator, no other help offered. Today I get an email (@ 4:00 pm) from SBG Mietwagen und Reiseorganisation GmbH stating they are now cancelling my tour for tomorrow. It's now even late to book anything else. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH VIATOR OR THIS TOUR OPERATOR!!!
Luka was very informative Great knowledge of the places we visited . We did not feel rushed at all . He allowed us plenty of time in each place and was very accommodating to our requests . We were a family of 8 and all had a great time .Hallstatt was our favorite place to visit definitely spend at least 2 hours there , Salzburg also worth spending 2-3 hours there .start early , we started at 8 , it’s a long day for these tour guides , the earlier you start the better . Happy birthday next week Luka Nela,Jorge and the crew
We have a full day 12 hours tour with Luka who was fantastic. He was very professional and knowledgeable with all the relevant histories. . He gave us plenty of time to visit all the sights. Show us the best points for phototaking. We had over 3 hours in Salzburg, a lovely City . We even sat down for a relaxed lunch after all the walking and sightseeing. Thank you Luka. Philip H
What an amazing day! We left our hotel in Vienna at 8:30 am and went west to Melk, Salzburg and Hallstatt. Our guide not only drove us in comfort, but pointed out interesting things along the way and gave us tips on how best to see the sites when we arrived. In Melk we arrived during the mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi and were able to see the children and adults dressed in traditional Austrian costumes. In Salzburg, he showed us around the town and then left us to explore for about three hours. Finally, we drove through the hills and past mountain lakes towards Hallstatt where we enjoyed a brief walkabout before deciding to leave prior to a huge thunderstorm arriving. I was so glad not to have to drive back along the mountain roads and on the highway during the hail! In planning our vacation we weren't sure we'd have the time to see this part of Austria. Booking this tour allowed us to see this beautiful part of the world without the stress of driving, parking, and figuring out where to go and what to see. We got it all in one day - without having to drive ourselves around - and we were back in Vienna in time for dinner at a nearby beer joint! Well worth the cost - which wasn't much more than a group tour in the same area. Way to go Viator!
Enjoyed this tour very much. Luca was an excellent guide. Good driver and very knowledgable. Very comfortable vehicle. Tour was worth the extra money, would of liked more time in Hallstatt
Excellent service with Chris. He is very talented, kind and punctual. It was rainy at Hallstatt. However, highly recommended. Salzburg was a jewel. We were vey pleased to take this beautiful tour. Chris made things easy for us. H.Mete TANIR, Turkey
Thank you Petar for a safe and enjoyable trip in the comfort of your vehicle. We appreciated your flexibility that allowed us to choose some variations of the itinerary. It was a most fascinating trip that we will remember and recall with pleasure for a long time to come.
great scenery especially halstatt , Salzburg also very nice and tranquillity all around despite many visitors, melk in march just a 30 min stop enough. punctual and well informed driver. recommended

highlight of our trip! Vladimir was very knowledgable, respectful, and timed the itinerary perfectly. breathtaking views and worth the long ride back.

Peter was an excellent driver. Not only was he attentive and careful with his driving but he was able to give a lot of information about each place we visited. The majority of the drive was very picturesque... it was truly an unbelievable and unforgettable day!

wonderful experience, our driver was very professional and considerate

The trip to Salzburg was nice but it was the scenery around Hallstatt that was my favorite part of the tour. The views were spectacular. Car was comfortable and driver was great. Thanks, Petar!
