The guide needs better training on the area. He made jokes that you would expect from a high school student. Instead, talk about the current area and it's people (during the 3 hour drive to the destination). So many missed opportunities to talk about how people live outside the city, what they do for work, schools, entertainment, etc.

Itinerary
We set out from Vienna in the morning, trading boulevards for open fields and foothills on a roughly 4-hour westbound drive. In the final hour, the road drifts into the Salzkammergut: clear lakes flash between trees, the slopes gather height, and small villages press close to the shoreline—an easy preview of what’s ahead. Hallstatt appears suddenly, tucked between water and rock. The tempo drops. You follow the lakeside promenade toward the slender church spire, step into the Market Square, and wander lanes that climb toward the forest.
Explore Hallstatt’s essentials with a storyteller-guide: how salt shaped the town, why the Iron Age bears its name, where to frame the perfect lake reflection, and what quiet corners to visit afterward.
Enjoy free time in Hallstatt: wander the lakeside promenade for classic spire-and-water views, browse small craft shops and salt-themed souvenirs, and pause in Market Square for coffee or pastries. Follow the Mühlbach stream to quiet photo spots, or climb a lane for rooftops-and-lake panoramas. Then simply sit by the water and take it all in.

This was a fantastic tour the town of Hallstatt is so beautiful it's like a fairytale. We enjoyed a coffee and cake the pastry with meringue delicious. We walked up to the church for a different aspect. There were plenty of toilet stops and refreshments if needed. Toilets on the bus long day but throughly enjoyed. Eric the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with different options for all. Thanks
If you have not visited Switzerland than I must say..Halstat is aa good and beautiful like it.. Very rushed in natural beauty and lakes mesmerizing indeed
Convenient and affordable. Nice view. Great tour, great experience. Nice people and smooth travel experience
Long day of travel, but well worth it! Hallstatt is a beautiful town and although you only have 3 hours to explore, it really is more than enough time. Priscilla was our tour guide and she was excellent. Worth it!
Hallstatt was a very scenic place to visit. However, the second stop to the castle was a bit of disappointment.
Beautiful town! People were very hospitable. The operator, Matt, was very personable and knowledgeable.
i will start by that they didn’t not show up to pick up as planned, they claim the pick up taxi was on the location at the pickup time, however, i was not waiting outside for more than 40 minutes and no one showed up, then when i communicated that to them the ghosted me and stopped replying, i submitted a refund request the didn’t authorize it!!! unfortunately they were unprofessional and rude, they were comfortable charging me for a service they did NOT provide, had very unprofessional communication
It was a bit of a trip to get there but seeing this area was breath taking. So very pretty! Our guide was very good and explained to us the history of this area. It was so beautiful to walk around the town and see how it had been bulit.
Longer day than advertised. Got a late start from Vienna. Boarding was confusing as there were many other buses at same place and time. Guide and driver were very good. Hallstatt is a gem. Worth the time.
Be prepared for long bus ride, bus seats were comfortable and windows were clean so the views for the last hour of the drive were nice. You get 2 break stops one on the way there and one on the way back - beware high costs of grab and go buffet at first stop. Plenty of time to explore at destination and Alex is a wonderful guide with a wealth of historical information that he shares as you arrive and pass certain landmarks. Was super tired by the time we got back to Vienna but worth it if you want to get a glimpse of the Alps and small mountain town. Bring cash! Most vendors in small towns only take cash and ATMs have high transfer fee if you don’t have Euros.
Fun Vienna side trip. Bus ride was long but the driver was excellent.
The sights were beautiful but I was disappointed that we did not learn much historical information as I have experienced on other tours.
Richard was very helpful, provided valuable information. The bus was clean had bathroom and the tour included well timed stops.
Went to Hallstat as it was a spot on my buck list and was beyond my expectations. Beautiful, had spare time to wonder through the town, shop, gaze, feed swans. It was a absolute dream.
Excellent trip and impeccable service by Matt and the driver. Highly recommend this company.
This was a day filled with fun. The full day was not an exaggeration. Each stop was appropriately timed, filled with great historical previews from our tour leader and of course beautiful scenic views.
Very well planned and organised trip. There were a couple of stops on the way for using toilets and having food with plenty of time. Smooth journey to the beautiful Halstatt. Our guide, Mark, was very organised and attentive. We had plenty of time in Halstatt and went to see a castle by the lake as well. Brilliant experience.
Be very careful booking this. This was to be the highlight of our Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip. We arrived to the meeting place at 7:15 am as stated on emails and tickets received. The tour was to leave at 7:30 am. When we arrived we would not find our guide. I received a missed call from the guide at 7:07 am. When I saw the missed call I messaged and learned the tour left! We were exactly where we were supposed to be at 7:15 am. I have been trying to get a refund but I am receiving no response to my messages. Unless this is made right, I won’t use Viator again.
That the company was very organized and on time. they picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. the bus was comfortable and the driver was good. we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with them and highly recommend it.
The trip went smooth according to the itinenary. The tourist guides are so friendly, kind and knowlegeable about the histories of Austria. The pick up taxis are on time too.. I am very satisfied with the service..
They cancelled the trip at 6 30pm the evening before, leaving me with no time to book anything else. I had booked my 3 day trip to vienna around this tour. They also didn't process my refund until a week and a half later, and I had to contact multiple times to ask for refund to be processed.
Marek was a wonderful and kind tour guide. He gave interesting facts and was accommodating to our small group. We drove from Vienna to Hallstatt (Marek picked us up at each of our hotels/Airbnb’s) and stopped about halfway at a gas station for facilities, a stretch and refreshments. The tour at Hallstatt was short but informative and we spent the remaining 2 hours solo, agreeing to a set time to meet back at our parking spot. The drive back matched the drive in. Wonderful experience, beautiful town and history. Highly recommend!
Day before the tour we received a message through Viator from the tour company cancelling the tour. No reasoning, just an offer of another tour that was not at all similar. We requested contact information, they never responded. Viator was great in working with us and we were refunded quickly. The tour company that handles this tour is nonresponsive, unprofessional and we do not recommend.
It was an amazing place to visit. Definitely worth booking the tour. Richard and Maros were amazing guides. The drive and bus were super comfy.
Nice town ,crowded small Nice guide But just consider you gonna be in a bus for 8 h for 3 h enjoy From 7:00 am to 7 almost If you have enough days
A long drive about 4 hours back & forth, stay in Hallstatt for 3 hours. Surprisingly, it’s superbly worth for the drive, so beautiful and peaceful there, like a quiet solemn stand alone place. Must go! Prettiest!
Overall, we were somewhat satisfied with the experience, but there are important points future travelers should know. This tour used to include Salzburg together with Hallstatt, but it was later changed to Hallstatt only. Unfortunately, Hallstatt was extremely crowded. We had to wait in very long lines almost everywhere, and during the winter season we ended up spending around 2.5 hours outdoors in the cold. Given these conditions, including Salzburg on the same day would have been a much more sensible and balanced itinerary.
Smooth transition and ride to Hallstatt. Very informational and seemless through the whole trip- recommend to anyone!
8 hours of traveling in a bus. 4 hours non-stop. There should be at least one stop to stretch legs. The person who spoke to us on the bus needs some education on Austria so he can speak about the country and the region. It was disappointing to travel that long and learn nothing. The tour of Hallstatt was very short. The guide was good but 35 minutes was very short. Hallstatt itself was beautiful.
Pickup was well organized and directions were easy to follow. Nice big comfy bus with a bathroom. The town was beautiful and a pleasure to walk around. Plenty of stores and places to eat. Breathtaking views all around. Would recommend visiting this place and using this tour.
The guides were very friendly, on time. The bus was confortable. Love that they give you little treats. Great experience overall
The tour operator never showed up. Viator was of no help. Think twice before trusting your vacation time to this company. Better to book through your hotel as they vett the local operators
Terrific experience. Driver picked up at hotel. He was friendly and professional Vienna to Salzburg 3 hours. Spent @2 hours in Salzburg before on to Hallstatt. Spent a couple of hours and then back to Vienna. Trip was good. Probably should only be to Salzburg. Driver spoke very clear English. He was attentive and engaging. Weather was cold and wet. That made the Christmas market a little chilly. But the Brawtwurst was good.
We’re sure this tour is absolutely amazing, but unfortunately we never even got the chance to experience it due to extremely poor customer service. We arrived at the pickup location 30 minutes early, exactly as listed on our ticket. As the pickup time got closer, we tried contacting the company multiple times to confirm we were in the right spot — no answer, no callback, nothing. This Hallstatt trip was supposed to be one of the highlights of our time in Vienna, and instead, we missed the entire tour because we couldn’t get any help or communication from the operator. It was incredibly disappointing and completely avoidable. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
Our guide, Richard, was fabulous! He even brought us pre-bagged waters. He was very knowledgeable about the area and accommodating.
This was a great excursion! We had a day in Vienna, and really wanted to experience a bit of nature. Hallstat was absolutely stunning. Getting to experience it at sunset while enjoying a mug of hot wine was the highlight of the day. Richard was great, even after an extremely long day.
Marko is an amazing tour guide. He knows his stuff and was great making sure the group got what they needed. Be ready to walk, and be prepared for a few hours in the van!
We had a fabulous day trip with Richard, ( our driver & guide). He was on time & courteous the whole day. We travelled in a comfortable Mercedes van that conveyed our group of 6 to the Alps & back. Whilst the weather didnt look to promising on the way to Hallstatt, it didnt deter us from getting some good photos .We had a generous amount of time in both Hallstatt & Salzburg. The view from the castle ramparts was spectacular. Well worth the trip
It is a van , not a bus, so it was cramped space. The guide was also the driver., which seems like a long day for him. The guide, Mark, was knowledgeable and caring.
Pros. Saw wonderful scenery especially near Halstatt. Nice driver Cons. Maybe misread the description. We are on our own in both Salzburg and Halstatt. In Salzburg, we missed seeing the castle as we were eating (had to leave Vienna before eating breakfast) Since the skywalk is closed, there is not much else to do in Halstatt.
The trip was very informative. Although it was a rainy day, everything was still beautiful. Our guide was great!
Marek was so kind and extremely knowledgeable. He made the trip so pleasurable . It was a long day but so scenic and he explained everything as we passed historic sites . I really liked Marek and would recommend this trip to all. It was absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful tour wonderful views, visiting very interesting places. I recommend this activity! Halzburg is worthy to be visited
Too much driving with limited time at 2 destinations…sites were nice but too little time… travel was cramped in mini van
Our tour guide, Richard, was excellent - friendly and well informed about the area. He indicated at the beginning of the trip that he would stop at the mid point but if anyone needed to stop to just let him know and he would find a place. The trip itself was wonderful but be prepared for a long day. Richard pointed out places of interest enroute to the destinations. He started each city with a tour highlighting points of interest in the city. He provided excellent recommendations for spots to eat and/or drink and sites to see during our free time in each spot. He was very clear about meeting times and places for the group and thankfully everyone was in the right place at the right time. In Salzburg, we decided to tour the castle. The views of Salzburg were stunning. Hallstatt was so gorgeous it did not look real. We ate at the recommended hotel restaurant at the patio. As I noted, be prepared for a very long day and many hours of driving. However, the vehicle was very comfortable and we were provided a bottle of water and snacks. The scenery to each destination was stunning so the ride did not seem very long.
An excellent trip with the tour guide. He does he best to introduce us the great restaurants and information of the attractions. I’m enjoyed the Hallstatt and Salzburg trip.
The experience was fenomenal - the guide very knowledgeable and ready to help when needed. We really enjoyed it.
A must do when in Vienna for a short time as you really get to cover a lot of the country. The tour was very well organised and attentive to all the needs of the guests.
We just finished this full day tour. Wow..do not go. To begin with the tour guide drove the entire ride at 145kmh/90mph, we were truly petrified. The “guided tour” was a brief guided tour. We are very unhappy that we spent so much money on this so called guided tour. After 14 hours, it resulted in about 20 minutes of it being guided. We learned nothing about Hallstatt and Salzburg. Plan to contact Viator for some sort of refund. Do not book. It was a terrible experience.
