Salzburg/Sound of music location tour was fun. It was a 3hour trip from Vienna so ~6hrs travel time total back and forth. Marek is an exceptional guide/driver. He’s knowledgeable on locations used and historical accounts of Salzburg. Will definitely recommend this.

Discover Hellbrunn Palace, Salzburg’s playful Renaissance gem famous for its legendary Trick Fountains—hidden water jets and surprise sprays designed to delight (and soak!) visitors for over 400 years. Stroll through elegant gardens, explore the picturesque grounds, and enjoy a fun, refreshing break surrounded by alpine scenery—an unforgettable highlight on your Salzburg & Sound of Music tour from Vienna.
Pause at stunning Leopoldskron Palace, one of Salzburg’s most elegant lakeside landmarks and a classic Sound of Music filming location. It’s a perfect photo stop and a true “movie moment” on your Salzburg & Sound of Music tour from Vienna.
Enjoy a guided walk through Salzburg’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, where baroque beauty, alpine views, and music history come together. Stroll past highlights like Getreidegasse, Mozart’s Birthplace, the elegant squares and churches, and scenic viewpoints toward the Hohensalzburg Fortress—while your guide shares the city’s stories, hidden corners, and the Sound of Music connections that made Salzburg world-famous.
After the guided tour, enjoy free time in Salzburg to explore at your own pace. Browse the charming lanes of the Old Town, shop for souvenirs and Mozartkugeln, relax in a café, or take a stroll along the Salzach River for postcard-perfect views. You can also choose to visit a museum, step into Mozart’s world, or simply soak up the city’s magical atmosphere before we continue the journey.

Marek was a fantastic tour guide, came and picked us up from our hotel, then got others and we headed into Salzburg with a stop ! The day went quick and Marek sure gave us plenty time for photos and helped people take their photos too. He was well versed with Salzburg history and the sound of music movie. He moved the day along quite quickly as well & just a general all round nice guy hosting us all ! Thanks Marek !
If you are in the area definitely take this tour. I loved the fact that we get picked up and drop off at our hotel. It was great that we are driven to all the stops with very little walking. The sites were beautiful like the movie and our guide Marek was excellent. He really know his history of Salzburg and the movie Sound of Music. He made a few breaks on the road for bathroom and to stretch our legs. Market square was wonderful to have lunch and do some shopping. We had a great time. It is a long day tour but I would definitely recommend this tour and our guide Marek.
We really appreciated Richard, our guide! The few Sound of Music locations were quite good to see, especially the gazebo and Mirabell Gardens! The other locations you had to sort out yourselves a bit due to lack of signage.
My husband and I chose this experience as I am a Sound of Music fan. This was a wonderful way to spend my birthday! Our guide, Richard, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The small group was friendly and fun and included other Sound of Music fans like myself. We enjoyed piecing together where portions of the movie were filmed. Thank you, Viator, for helping to make my birthday a celebration to remember!
Our guide was lovely- it is a lot of driving and while the train is faster to Salzburg, if you are not familiar this was the best way to see so much in a short period of time
My wife loved it….. I was the plus one! She got up close & personal with the gazebo and the steps & fountain for Do-Re-Me in Mirabel garden. We saw the house where the kids fell in the lake from across the lake as you cannot go inside or get close as it is now a hotel. In Salzburg we found the convent gate at the Nonnberg Abbey where the kids went looking for Maria. The archway entrance and road to the abbey is the archway where the family flee the home at the end. My wife was over the moon. Happy wife, happy life! The walk around Salzburg was also good. Mark (English name for our guide) was very knowledgeable and if you are a Mozart fan, he’ll have plenty of info for you. Overall a great day out. Be prepared for the ride there & back. It’s a 12 hour day.
The travel from Vienna to Salzburg’s is close to 4 hour drive there and back. It is a long day. Richard was a lovely tour guide and good at communication. The shopping section was a bit long 2 hours would have preferred another sight and shorter time at the shops.
The operator cancelled this tour with less than 24 hours notice after confirming it 7 days prior. Incredibly disappointing.
The tour operator cancelled my booking for a day trip with less than 25 hours notice after confirming it 7 days earlier. Completely unacceptable.
There’s not much in the way of “sound of music tour.” They show you the gazebo, Mirabel garden and the house where they fell in the lake but you cannot go inside or get close to what is now a hotel. Overall, it’s a nice experience to see Salzburg which is a beautiful place but don’t expect much connection to the movie.
We had an amazing experience with our most excellent guide Marek! He was polite, extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. Marek showed us several sites from the Sound of Music along with interesting information about the movie and also about Mozart. Marek gave us lunch suggestions and other options to see during our free time which were very helpful!. The ride to Salzburg was comfortable and pleasant. Marek also provided us with water for the ride. He really made our experience 5 star! I would definitely recommend this tour!
Marek was a lovely and informative guide. There was only him, myself and a young couple on this tour so it was very small and that made it really nice. This was a very long day, however, it should be noted that Salzburg is a long distance from Vienna. The only downside of the day, was that we couldn’t go into any of the castles we saw as there wasn’t enough time and the tour isn’t clear about that in the description and I would not have gone had I known that. I was expecting a little more emphasis on The Sound of Music but it was ok.
My friend & I had dreamed about visiting the movie locations for many years. Richard picked us up from our location in Vienna in a lovely clean car (only 2 of us) and was very polite and professional, took us to all the sites and then to old town Salzburg and even some shopping time. Although a long trip there and back was well worth the trip. We travelled back in a wild summer storm and Richard was able to get us back to Vienna as scheduled. We were each given a gift from Richard which was a lovely touch. Was a long but happy day!!
I got disappointed that they did not show up. Those people should not be tour operators if that’s how they are.
It was so fun to see the places where the movie had their on location sites. Our guide, Maros had photos from the film to show us the scene at the different sites we visited. He also pointed out Mozart sites and told us stories about Mozart. It was cold and rainy but a delightful tour. Maros was brilliant!
