Belvedere feels spacious even before going inside. The formal gardens, fountains and long views between the two palace buildings make the walk through the grounds a big part of the visit. There are plenty of good photo angles around the reflecting pool, though the main areas can get quite busy. The museum visit is easy to manage with a timed ticket, and the rooms themselves are worth noticing as much as what’s displayed in them. Families should be fine here, but younger children may enjoy the outdoor space more than a long indoor visit. I’d allow a couple of hours for one building and the gardens, longer if visiting both Upper and Lower Belvedere.

The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the world's leading museums, featuring an outstanding art collection from the Middle Ages to the present day. The impressive Baroque complex, consisting of the Upper and Lower Belvedere and their beautiful gardens, was built in the 18th century as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Later, Empress Maria Theresa transformed the Upper Belvedere into one of the world's first public museums. Today, the Lower Belvedere hosts temporary exhibitions. This ticket includes admission only (no guided tour). Visitors can proceed directly to the museum entrance and enjoy their visit at their own pace. Beautiful rooms, gorgeous palace. I knew there would be no guide but the listed meeting point was Hofburg Palace which is massive with different areas. Good thing we arrived early as it took us a while to realize we were meeting at the Sisi museum entrance.
I bought tickets through TripAdvisor and got a confirmation but when I tried to pull up the actual tickets, I got a message to check my email as the tickets had been sent separately. I was unable to find any separate email and had to buy tickets again at the museum.
We visited the Belvedere Museum in the afternoon, and it was a beautiful experience. The museum itself is a masterpiece, with its elegant architecture and fascinating art. After exploring the galleries, we wandered through the peaceful gardens, which are free to access and quite popular. It was a perfect way to end our visit, enjoying the serene atmosphere and beautiful views of the museum and its surroundings.
Our favorite place we went to in Vienna, as a family. The artworks were wonderful, and our children were so amazed to see works that they had seen only in books. The grounds were beautiful, but it was winter. I would have loved to see the outside in the spring or summer. It was well worth our time and money.
Just back from a 4 day Christmas Market city break in Vienna, during which we visited the Lower Belvedere Palace, including the Orangery, the stables, gardens and Messerschmitt and Brown art exhibitions. We spent about 2 hours there viewing the various art exhibitions and is certainly worth a visit. There was an exhibition of various famous impressionists art on display, (Renoir, Degas etc), as well as other contemporary and middle age exhibits. The Baroque interiors are fine examples, especially the Hall of the Grotesque, the Marble Gallery and the Golden room. Well worth a visit if that is your type of thing.
Amazing exhibits! I learned so much about Klimt's painting technique and Slovenian painters. Absolutely loved it, and recommend people to visit the Upper Belvedere and this place with the combination ticket.
Huge !!! The place offer beautiful landscape. Built in 1700 century the place offer amazing view. There are fountains , gardens , architecture or should i say complete package. They also have a app which help keep kids busy with a adventure animal searching game. Once it was a zoo and now they have hidden digital animals, Cafe is good but a little overpriced i would say. This is a must have in the itinerary
This building was incredible and MUCH less crowded than the Upper Belvedere which houses The Kiss. I’m a horse person, so seeing the stables and how they’ve been turned into a museum was pretty interesting to me. If you ask, the person working there will point out the fountain they used to water the horses. It’s not easy to find. I love strange art, and there was a lot of it there because some of the displays are much older (Middle Ages and Renaissance.) There was also a wonderful exhibition of Broncia Koller-Pinell whose work is GORGEOUS. I really adored her paintings, and I’m so glad I made it to this exhibition! The building itself is over the top (of course) and the grounds there are beautiful and hidden. I almost had the place to myself. It was worth every penny to me, and having fewer people there allowed me to spend as much time with each piece as I liked. Don’t miss this if you like to really take in the artwork at your own pace!
A must-visit when in Vienna! Both the collections and the garden were simply amazing. Excellent organization. We have bought tickets for the morning slot.
Skip the lower Belvedere and go to the upper one. The exhibitions were not interesting and not worth the admission price. One thing that was great was the cafe and the apfel strudel, try it.
Unfortunately, the upper and lower museum both have a number of rooms closed. In the lower museum the closures do not leave much to see. As such I am sorry that we bought the tickets for both. The one really great thing about the upper museum is the cafe. I had the grilled meat entree. Massive portion of beef chicken veal and sausage, with rice, French fries and salad. On a price to value basis, it was the best meal that I have had in a week in Vienna. (Also no coverage charge)
The architecture and where the palace is located has zero flaws. The gallery inside has a known and also unknown pieces. We enjoyed every minute we spent there. It felt surreal to be there
In the Lower Palace was a very rude staff. I didn’t feel comfortable even though I tried to talk with her about a situation. She even said “you don’t understand English or what?” So I decided to leave at the moment. The place is amazing and having this kind of staff makes the experience horrible. Please train your staff in how to give a good service
Upper Belvedere museum was interesting and gardens are really beautiful. However lower belvedere à d klmt exhibition was a total fealure. There was this guy at the entrance asking half of the people to queue (the other half didn t have to, without any reason) Also people had to go to the locker for any kind of bag, wallet, ... whatever the site! As à result, my wife had to queue 30min for her bag , then was asked to queue Alain 30min to the locker bécasse she kept her small handbag (i don t gave à clue hy the guy didn t tell her that this hand bag also had to stay in locker the fiesta time)... during this time another guy shouted at me since my telephone was too dark. We finally decided not to enter and lost our ticket price.
We stumbled into this palace as it was close to our hotel . A lovely autumns walk via the Botanical garden . We had sunshine today it made everything more beautiful.
The upper museum has brilliant Central European artists from Hungary and the Czech Republic. The lower museum had the Klimt exhibit and it was mesmerizing. The Belvedere is a “must see.”
If you really want to see the palace, you want the upper palace. If you want to see an art exhibit of Klimt, and just a few palatial rooms, this lower one may be your ticket. Note that it’s a full 8 minute walk back down hill to this entrance so you need not go to the other site first.
Forgot to book time slot tickets and as we walked to the location couldn't wait around for next available slot. Gardens and palace are impressive. Remember to book in advance
I enjoyed the exhibition and the medieval art! Ticket is reasonable, no long queues for it. I got discouraged by the long queue at the upper Belvedere, hence I only went for the lower. Overall it was worth it though
Beautiful place, must see and walk around, outside and inside. Great paintings and setting. Deserves high score on must-see!
Gorgeous palace with extensive grounds Very long line for entry on an April Saturday. A few interesting pieces besides the Klimts, but not an extensive collection.
A wonderful architectural design with beautifully coordinated gardens and fountains, and the inscriptions on the interior walls, statues, and painting on the ceilings are of high accuracy, and add to the place the beauty of taking, as it contains a lot of wonderful works of art.
If you want to see one of the most famous artworks of all time, Klimt’s Kiss, then this is where you should go! But that’s not the only reason to visit Belvedere. Among others are the amazing building and gardens, the great works of art that are hosted there and also if you’re lucky some very impressive exhibitions! Oh and did I mention how good the café is?
Very pretty! It's smaller than the Palace of Versailles, but it's very snug!!!
My entire visit to the Belvedere included going to the upper Belvedere, the lower Belvedere and the gardens. The upper Beveldere is fantastic. Beautiful construction and spectacular works. The lower one has a beautiful room and the collection has beautiful paintings. But if the time is limited I don't think it's an indispensable visit. The gardens cannot be commented. It was being replanted; there was no beauty caused by the coming of the year. But I believe that in spring/summer it should be beautiful.
Personally I didn't find it interesting. It seems like one of those places that would not be essential on a short visit to Vienna.
The first difficulty I had was trying to figure out where to go to find the museum entrance. I went to ask at the ticket office and they had sent me somewhere else, finally I arrive in the right place and I find a long line of people waiting to enter, all booked long before. Once you enter the odyssey began, people on the right people on the left, line for lockers. inside the museum there is no Guide where it says go first to this room and then to that but you are completely free to go wherever you want, so there are totally empty rooms and overflowing rooms with people coming from the right and left. in some places it also creates so much confusion I remember the exhaustion after turning the first floor of the museum. I felt really very tired and overwhelmed so I decided to sit and wait. I also sat on a bench inside the garden, which is really wonderful and that reassured me, I ended the visit.
We took a tour of the Belvedere. This palace contains magnificent Collections including of course Klimt and many others. The exteriors are also very pretty. Easy access (on foot) from Karlsplatz.
Belvedere Palace is more impressive on the outside than on the inside. Its reconstruction is far removed from the origin. As for the collection, interesting and with very representative works of Austrian expressionism.
The rooms are very impressive. So is the story about it. You can experience everything through audio or take a guided tour. The place can be highly recommended.
Exterior in the jetties, poorly maintained and barren gardens, little information about the history of the belvedere. If you like art it is beautiful, if not you don't have to go in here!
I went to visit the viewpoint because it was considered one of the things to do absolutely in Vienna, so I would have left it a little further down the list. There are nicer attractions and things to do. If you are a Klimt lover it is highly recommended, there are Klimt's paintings, if art is not your thing, I recommend you take a tour of the wonderful garden in front of the museum.
Vous avez vendu l’entrée de l’orangerie alors qu’il n’y avait pas d’expo ! Je demande le remboursement.
Art gallery whose permanent collection covers works from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age, the highlights being the rooms dedicated to Klimt. The exhibition is organized over three floors. There is a cafeteria, free left-luggage office, audio guide service (€5) and bathrooms. We found some closed rooms and others dedicated to a temporary exhibition. It is advisable to get your tickets in advance to avoid queues. Their gardens are beautiful and free.
In summer the garden is really recommended. It turns so green when Vienna's flowers bloom! A feast for the eye when you’re into colorful.
We made the upper and lower lookout. Since February the lower lookout is really to be done, 90 works by Klimt are there as well as Shiele, Monet, Matisse, van Gogh..... To do absolutely!!!!! The viewpoint from the top, the building is bigger but the works did not touch me as much... and by far. Art Corner restaurant right next to the entrance, fine.
Seeing him in pictures is one thing, live is quite another. The museum, the gardens, the orangery, all lovely. A collection of unique art. Not for nothing is the flagship of the museum is the collection of G.Klimt and his masterpiece "The Kiss". I mean, money well spent. The orangery displays seasonal collections, often by lesser-known authors. Must-sees!
