The brightly colored walkway to the building and its flashy doors and the sculptures in the gardens are pretty modern for Vienna. It was the perfect time to visit the Heidi Horten collection since they stay open late (til 19:00 daily; 21:00 on Thursdays). The fact that there is a Klimt painting among the collection didn't hurt. We saw works by Munch, Nolde, Kirchner, Warhol, Baquiat, Haring, Picasso, Magritte, Dufy, Lichtenstein, and Chagall, among others. There were definitely some contemporary works that make you think. It was worth the hour or so that we spent there.

So disappointing. Only a fragment of an exceptional collection, exhibited on one floor, without curatorial concept. major pieces missing and two floors used for an extremely average temporary collection about animals in the art. Never again
Impressive collection by European artists who may not be well-known, but are still exceedingly talented. Two special exhibitions including infamous/famous films from the 1920s which were superb. Gallery is not too big but easy to spend a lot of time here because so interesting, new, memorable.
The best experience in my 5 days spent in Wien! A wonderful collection of great artists, a real treat for the visitor, both visual and audio! Thank you, Heidi Horten!
I wanted to love this collection. I had seen WOW at the Leopold on a previous visit. This museum and it's collection is simply not for art lovers or anyone educated about contemporary and pop art. There is so much wrong with everything visiting is jarring and disorienting. The ground level - what they bill as the permanent collection- was selected by the public. What you get is NOT a collection but an " assortment." There is no cohesion or logic between the pieces which range from Klimpt to Basquiat. It's completely disarming and the cartoonist curtains and furniture on the walls feel childish and I'll conceived. Even more alarming is an entire room devoted to trying to forgive the Horton's and the museum for the source of the funding. This seems somewhat acceptable until you go on the website where they refuse to say who bought the building, who finances the museum. They hope you accept their apology but the transparency is limited. Then there are lines everywhere telling you not to step beyond. In one spot there's barely 24 inches for traffic to flow between rooms. Then there is the design. Everything is "open" so the very noisy and intrusive sound and light exhibit just echoes on the ground floor which is distracting and poorly thought out. The exhibit on floors 2 & 3 - sound, light and smell is equally strange. It's not historical, not a specific period or genre. It's a mishmash of what feels like they want an Instagram moment. And, at the end, you discover that's exactly what they want and they tell you with a floor to ceiling plea for your selfie. Some of the artwork is good. The Gerhard Richter pieces, the lone Cy Twombly, the Basquiat's. But everything feels out of place. They also tell you they are self funded but won't disclose financial info. And I paid 16 eu. So I was part of that funding. As one person said in their review, this feels like someone went on a shopping spree and just bought art. It's too bad as there are so many missed opportunities here.
A very pleasant experience for eyes and soul. The tour I visited was different to usual tours. Very lovely and individual!
I attended such a fascinating exhibition for the first time in years. Location is top (next to the state opera in the center of vienna) and the personal on-site was very kind
A truly a amazing collection of stunning art which complements the adjoining Albertina beautifully. Housed in a stunning building the art is displayed sensitively and imaginatively. If you’re in Vienna then don’t miss!
We were in Vienna for the weekend. We had some time after visiting the Albertina Museum that is why we started looking around which other museums would be worth to visit. I must say I am not a fan of Gustav Klimt, an artist.I primarily chose to visit the Heidi Horten Collection because I am interested in pop art - Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein etc. I was amazed that not only the collections were great, it was also possible to vote the creative works. In this museum you may not find all creative works - only the best of the best. So if you are in Vienna, make sure you visit this museum and bring your mobile (cell) phone when you are walking around to check the exhibits. Enjoy your visit!
Fantastic. The building, the works, the scope.
It was really a great event! All tours were very interesting! Clear recommendation! 😁
I was able to take part in a truly magnificent tour of the Animalia exhibition led by a cultural mediator. I never expected so much socially critical input paired with so much dedication and humor.
A fresh gallery in Vienna, opened relatively recently (22?). It's in the middle, next to Albertino. The building has been converted from garages into a very decent light structure. The courtyard is blooming and well-kept, and there are cute sculptures that create extra comfort. The gallery consists of paintings from the collection of the Vienna billionaire patron Heidi Horten. Represented by Klein, Klimt, Chagall, Picasso, Schiele. There are contemporary artists. The exhibition is not static. The exposures are changing. Looks like we weren't in the best of times. Reading the reviews expected more. The exhibition is small, not much time was spent on it. Which means it's not worth the 15 euros spent. It's just that the price is not commensurate with the quality. But that's my opinion. Here, in the reviews, many "experts" are thrilled.
Fantastic exhibition and extremely good and motivated guides...
The Heidi HORTEN collection is worth a visit in the immediate vicinity of the Albertina. The collected works include several eye-catchers to discover
Precise exhibitions with work presentations as in Vienna not to be seen a second time.
Great - always blindly passed into the Albertina - into the castle garden - seen for the first time - immediately in - and was really t.o.t.a.l thrilled!!!
The Heidi Horten Collection Museum is impressive and of the highest standard. Really worth seeing and contemporary art at its best. The architecture and detailed execution of the museum is also extremely perfect. An absolute must in Vienna.
The exhibition "The Line" is simply magnificent. The museum staff very friendly. Even if we got too close to a work of art, it was reacted to with humor.O TON : " MAY I PRESENT THE ARTWORK TO YOU?" If you listened to the museum educators, you could not escape the amazement. Appreciation and respect were as important as enthusiasm and desire for cultural mediation. I know about the historical background of the house nevertheless I want to rate the experience as simply awesome. THANK YOU
Very well put together, interestingly connected with the companies of the 20s, an extraordinary experience. I bought the annual ticket right away because there are so many short-term top events organized. The location is also very good next to Opera and Albertina, public or on foot/bike/scooter extremely easily accessible
Sensational! Greatly designed exhibition, many different artists, always worth seeing! Hope that the exhibition will be redesigned with other objects from the fundus!
Competent guidance of a dedicated art historian with subsequent implementation of an idea on the canvas. Entertaining, informative, creative with a great fun factor.
It is an important collection of contemporary art, with spaces also for educational workshops. In classical (but not only, think Hunterwasser, the Secesse) an element of less conventional art.
Fantastic museum, manageable, not as crowded as in other Viennese art museums, great selection of works of art by famous painters coupled with a well-curated special exhibition, friendly and helpful employees.
just great for adults and children. Great exhibitions and events. Exciting workshops for children. Super friendly staff. Thank you again.
Truly a nice discovery, with lots of modern and contemporary masterpieces, plus well-made temporary exhibitions!
We have the exhibition EXPERIMENT EXPRESSIONISM SCHIELE MEETS NOSFERATU and were delighted. Even if you are not the Schiele fan, he is extremely appealing in this combination. In addition, there are plenty of interesting things to discover, which is further underlined by the special architecture of the house. Only some spots could be oriented differently so as not to diminish the enjoyment of art. The inscription of the individual works is also very small and unfavorably attached. Nevertheless, no point deduction, as it was a beautiful art experience.
We were at the film screening Nosferatu with guided tour and live music, it was really great, we hope there will be another similar event soon
We had a themed tour "Vienna, Vienna, just you alone". The cultural mediator was very savvy and told some interesting anecdotes. Really pays off!
Great exhibits and very interesting architecture. Unfortunately, there was only one Klimt and it did not work out so well with the online tickets. They couldn’t be read out, the lady at the till took a picture of them 😁.
Always beautiful to visit the Hanusch farm. A little hidden, he must be found. Just the right way to rediscover the exhibition at any time and again.
Very confused. It is not clear that the exhibition only presents a painting by Klimt. Doc must be disappointed. The explanations of the Staff were also not most evident
We were at the evening opening on March 20th and took the tour to the exhibition LIGHT SOUND SENSES - impressive
The exhibition is comprehensive and very well put together. We had a guided tour and thus a very good overview of the exhibits. Top! Highly recommended!
bardzo dobre, muzeum ze zbiorami sztuki nowoczesnej i współczesnej, same perełki, warto odwiedzić, polecam, plusem jest że znajduje się centrum Wiednia
It was breathtaking! Thank you! Both the masterpieces from all over the world and the light performance. We really liked it!
Always nice to come to this great place! Inspiration, quality and creativity in one place. Remarkably the compilation
Wonderful ambience! An amazing spectrum of art! Valuable is the guided tour to experience with a guide!
A very nice combination of art exhibition and building. Modern art really comes into its own here. So you can really enjoy the time here.
The foundation was formed in 2022 by Heidi Horten, widow of a wealthy Austrian entrepreneur who had done business with the Nazis. The museum displays masterpieces of the twentieth century collected by the founder and her husband. For all the works is marked - as indeed in all museums in Vienna - the date of acquisition to signal that they are not property confiscated from the Jews and where the provenance is of this kind is indicated that the foundation has nevertheless reached an agreement with the family of the legitimate owners in accordance with the principles of Washington. The theme of the origin of the family’s wealth is addressed immediately at the entrance of the exhibition. The setting is impactful and there are works of the highest quality. Definitely a museum not to be missed.
The fantastic architecture alone, with its large, light-flooded rooms, inspires. The guided tour of the exhibition Light Sound Senses by a competent young art facilitator who fulfills his task with passion, who not only explains art but also makes it tangible, was outstanding. An enrichment for the mind that will continue to work for a long time.
The museum is bright and spacious. The staff are friendly. The collection is diverse and beautiful, the temporary exhibition of image and light is surprising. Too bad the shop is very modest. The images outside are fitting. Highly recommended!
Always worth a visit. Great exhibitions, lovingly and smartly curated. A special and interesting place!
International classical modernism, from Gustav Klimt to Andy Warhol... Insider tip! In front of the entrance into the castle garden, turn left into the courtyard.
Very worth seeing! Extensive collection of extraordinary art. I particularly liked the guided tour of the museum - very competent, informative and entertaining. I'll be back soon.
A wonderful exhibition with great artists! Wonderful ambience and a brilliant tour! Thanks to the whole team!
My visit to the Heidi Horten Collection was a fascinating experience that deeply impressed me. The collection offers a comprehensive insight into 20th and 21st century art. It combines works by important artists such as Gustav Klimt, Marc Chagall and Warhol. The architecture of the museum itself, housed in a former Archducal Chancellery building, adds to the special atmosphere. I will definitely come back and look forward to the upcoming special exhibitions!
Beautiful architecture, interesting exhibits, but the line through the exhibition remains very vague, and the explanatory texts are too frugal (you are left with the feeling that Ms. Horten just bought all kinds of things together). The Tea Room is a bit hidden, but worth some time.
Great new museum with interesting works that are beautifully displayed! Architecturally, the building is an highlight!
The museum, the presentation of the works, the wonderful works of art from various genres in the tea room (!) and the friendliness of the staff are extremely impressive! The building exudes the freshness of the art and the passion for collecting of the great lady Heidi Horten. THANK YOU!
