We had a very enjoyable and informative Belvedere experience. Ilse was an excellent guide - knowledgeable, enthusiastic and witty. Highly recommended.

Itinerary
The Belvedere complex is an architectural masterpiece of a bygone aristocratic splendor designed to project a sense of earthly harmony. This terrestrial utopia was founded in the first decades of the 18th c. as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy, the commander-in-chief of the Austrian army and one of the most successful military commanders in modern European history. Among the most significant buildings of the 18th c., the grandiose palace of the Upper Belvedere is a masterstroke of Baroque architecture while the surrounding formal gardens were inspired by classical antiquity.
Belvedere became one of the first public museums in the world with the intention to make the Habsburgs’ imperial collection accessible to the general public. Today the Belvedere Museum exhibits a world-class compilation of Austrian and international painting from the Middle Ages to the present day, including precious items of the Austrian National Gallery: masterpieces by including some of Gustav Klimt’s most acclaimed paintings: works from his golden period: “The Kiss,” “Judith,” landscapes from the Attersee series and sophisticated portraits of high society ladies.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Katarina. She is incredibly knowledgeable and gracious. She patiently answered questions and provided fascination detail. Worth every penny!
Most highly recommend our experience of Belvedere schloss with Ilse. She was energetic, extremely knowledgeable, charismatic, and easy to be around.
Wow what an incredible Art Collection you find here. The painting of Napoleon on its horse in real is amazing. The garden is inviting for a relaxing stroll and sit down to enjoy this beautiful Castle. The details in the artwork are stunning, and seeing such famous history up close is a wonderful experience. It is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon walking through the green paths and taking in the architecture. We thoroughly enjoyed our time looking at the collection and relaxing outside, and it is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates beautiful things.
Our guide , Annelie, was a real expert. We so enjoyed our time with her and learned so much. Not just about the art in the palace, but the architecture and history of Vienna. Her pacing was excellent throughout the tour. We never felt rushed and we were always able to stop and ask more questions. We very much enjoyed our time with her and would highly recommend.
She is extremely knowledgeable, excited by the subject matter and a pleasure to spend a morning tour with.
Lisle is great, very knowledgeable about the art and history of Vienna. She also tells many stories which deepened our understanding. She managed to boil down a huge art collection into 2+ hours of focused viewing, especially of Klimt and his period. And her description of the origins of the palace and Prince Eugen were great. Lisle is friendly, personable and very competent. She helped to spark our understanding of Vienna and Austria overall on our 1st day in the city!
It’s an additional 25 euro per person. The grounds are beautiful. I personally found it to be very expensive for a two hour tour.
Katarina was excellent! She was very detailed on how to run the tour and extremely knowledgeable of each and every room. The stories behind the painters and paintings were fascinating.
Beautiful, 15 minutes walk from Karlskirche Church, following Belverdere we went to the concert Belverdere is beautiful, the paintings are spectacular, the gardens beautiful. Book via the official website ‘imperial tickets NOT Weintickets !!! this company charge a huge commission. You do not need a guide, just arrive, we did however pay £5 each to download the Ap guide, which was very useful , sometimes a little tricky to use but easier than a guide. We walked to the Upper Belvedere first & took the tour it is a busy place due to its location, booking is essential. We then walked around the lower Belvedere smaller gallery, a lovely cafe The staff in the gallery/reception especially ‘Miguel’ from New Milton, Hampshire ! A great place if you time in Vienna is limited as close by The Vivaldi concert and Opera Take water as €4 is pricey & an umbrella
This was a brief visit in a 3 day trip in virnna, it was lovely to walk around the well preserved gardens and to the exterior of the palace which was in a central spot in vienna..worth it just to chill, people watch and see another glorious vienna building
The skip the line tickets are worth the extra expense. Best to visit during low season as it gets very crowded. Otherwise it is an extraordinary display of opulence, art, design tastefully done. It is amazing what people could do when they were not preoccupied with social media, looking at their phones 24 x 7. Highly recommend especially for the younger generations. A guided tour or an audio guide rental is highly recommended to understand the history of the building and description of various art and artists of the era displayed.
The Belvedere is a must if you're looking for Gustav Klimt works of art, many other well known artists are displayed here. It is very busy and booking in advance is advised. It will take upto 2 hours. Some nice walks in the gardens will finish your day at the Belvedere
We really lucked out with our guide. Stephen was so knowledgeable and Informative. His details made the art so much more interesting and alive. I will never see Gustav Klimt's paintings the same way again.
Had a wonderful tour experience with Barbara. She was a wealth of information on Vienna, history and of course art. She helped us understand not just individual paintings, but how they fit into the overall city's history. We also learned the history of the palace and the surrounding area. I highly recommend this tour to bring. meaning to the art. This museum is huge and without a guide I would have just wandered its halls and taken little away with me. Barbara gave us plenty of time for photos and to walk around on our own in each room before she moved us on. The tour ended with a walk around the building and down to the lower house as well.
If you want to learn about the history of the Belvedere Palace, understand some of the prevalent culture of its time, and experience some of art produced and collected in that period, this is the tour for you. Seline our guide was very well prepared, knowledgeable and entertaining. We enjoyed our tour and we highly recommend it.
This is a very well-curated tour. Barbara knows the history, the palace and the art and presents the highlights as well as the fun bits.
I was not instructed about where to meet. We went to 3 locations until someone called me and said to come to her green umbrella at the main entrance. That was a waste of time and stressful. All 4 parties on our tour had the same trouble. Asa result we started late. Tell people where to meet! Not difficult.
Loved the history of the Belvedere and Prince Eugene Savoy. The art of Gustav Klimt is a bonus. The Kiss is a must-see, along with his other works.
Amazing Experience! The guide was knowledgable and explained everything very well. The small group size meant we could have many conversations and discuss the art we were looking at which as absolutely amazing!
Our tour guide Regina, was so knowledgeable. A lot of insight of the palace, paintings and so on. Her English is perfect . Learn lot from her!
Extensive, informative delve into the art history of the Belvedere collection. Our tour guide Selin was knowledgeable and a great teacher. Of course, the highlight of the visit for us was the Klimt collection, but there really is so much more. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour.
very knowledgeable tour guide with total grasp of the pertinent history. Added value with IPad contributions of relevant extra details. Guide very helpful for elderly clients.
Breathing scenery , attended to with great care The museum.parts in two sections the upper and the lower. Both are worth visiting for. Get the full ticket access if you have the time to explore ( an hour may not be enough to explore this establishment)
Great tour with knowledgeable guide who knew the most interesting facts about the art, artists and building.
We had an amazing time with our tour guide at Belvedere! He was so knowledgeable and it is an experience we will never forget.
Booker the tour. Got there after walking a mile in the rain. Our reservation was never received from Viator to the tour company so we were unable to join after paying $280. We were refunded but the museum was sold out for the day. A full afternoon of our vacation was lost!
We had the pleasure of going on a private tour with Jan today to visit the Belvedere Museum/Palace. Jan was very engaging, interesting, and knowledgeable. We really appreciated his conversational style of speaking to us about not just the paintings but history. We have had other tours and other tour guides and quite often they are just regurgitating facts and dates to us. It so enjoyable when you have tour guide like Jan who clearly has a passion for art and seems to want people to learn and appreciate it. My husband and I had a really great time and we thank Jan very much for being such an awesome tour guide.
Ilsa was so knowledgeable about the history of Belvedere and all of its art, that we felt we had a historian and art history professor in one. She made the place and art work come to life with her fascinating stories. I can’t recommend her more highly!!!!
We had a wonderful morning touring the Belvedere with Stefan! It was our first day and he gave us a terrific overview of Austrian history, which gave a lot of interesting context for the whole trip. His engaging tour made the Belvedere so much more interesting and we learned much more than we would have if we toured it on our own! Highly recommend.
Our tour guide knew her subject and gave us interesting information about the history of the palace and the art at the museum. Great tour and highly recommended.
I usually don't leave reviews, but after visiting several museums in Prague and Vienna, I am not wrong in saying that Margit is the best tour guide we have ever had. As a librarian, she has a vast knowledge of Vienna’s history and art. Thanks, Margit for a lovely afternoon and a wonderful restaurants recommendation.
great guide; explained the history of the palace which houses the collection of art and also took us through all the important parts of the museum with substantial time in the Gustave Klimpt area. the klimpts were amazing and is a must see in Vienna
Our guide was wonderful very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the art, grounds and history of Belvedere. Would definitely recommend this experience
Peter is a fantastic tour guide! He has very extensive knowledge, brought visual examples for us to explore to grasp the elaborate work of the palace and its history. A great story teller and a lovely gentleman, Peter gave us insights into Klimt and the collection as well as other greats, such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Munch. The Palace itself is very grand, and in finer weather the views must be stunning ( it was raining.) The reservoir and gardens are very impressive. I consider this tour as one of the very best, Peter’s attention to detail and his personality and style is exceptional.
We had a truly wonderful experience with Katarina , a very thorough tour of the grounds and museum. Her command of Austrian history and art were remarkable. We did not feel rushed or stressed like we have on some tours . This was an incredibly worthwhile and educational experience. HIGHLY recommend!!!!
A little hick-up on the day, diligently and swiftly sorted out by Bonita from Insightcities, with a small re-scheduling of start time. Katarina, our super knowledgeable, specialised, local guide gave us a fact- and fun- filled generous 2 1/2 hours at this stunning venue. As an extra treat, 'Judith' by Gustav Klimt was actually in the house ! ( This painting is on tour a lot ) This experience is a magnificent treat for all art and history lovers.
Our guide Stephen was a delight. He explained everything as it relates to the identity of Austria. From the walk through the gardens and through the artwork. Stephen is extremely knowledgeable and the time flew by. We highly recommend this tour!
Excellent tour. Katerina our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very happy to share. She explained a lot of European history in addition to the art information. Would recommend highly.
We had an incredible experience with this tour. Annelie was knowledgeable and very engaging in both history and art. The group was small only 3 couples so it was perfect. I really can’t express how much we enjoyed it so much information and context for what you are seeing. Again our guide Annelie could not have been better!
After enjoying a great tour in Prague with Insight Cities (Beer and Baroque), I was lucky enough that Insight Cities was able to organise a tour for me at the last minute in Vienna. Alan was my guide. Knowledgeable, humorous and an afternoon of interesting conversation. Very much recommend. Went on to book two more tours with Insight Cities in Budapest.
The BEST TOUR EVER with Susanna! I have been fortunate enough to take tours the world over ,and can honestly say I have never experienced such an all encompassing, informative, personal, friendly, intuitive, educational tour guide as I ( we) experienced on this tour . SUSANNA WAS BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL! THANK YOU. To all tourists DO NOT miss THIS TOUR. Well worth the money!!!
Extremely knowledgeable tour guide. We were in a small group. She offered to extend our tour as well which was very nice. Very detailed. Def recommend going on a small group guided tour of Belvedere Museum. Learned about the history of Austria as well as viewed a lot of art. Very kind and nice guide as well.
Tour was very informative. Our tour guide explained things in a structured and detail manner. Tour length made tour a great value.
Alan was a wonderful guide and with tremendous knowledge and passion both for history and art. It was an added bonus to discover he is American and he had the unique perspective of having lived for decades both in and outside Austria. Very engaging and passionate about what he does. Highly recommend!
We had such a nice time on our tour! Our guide (Wolfgang) was very knowledgeable, and provided unique insight into the history of the palace. He made the palace come alive, and we would highly recommend booking a tour.
Excellent tour. This is what you must do if you want to truly understand the connection between Gustav Klimt and the other artist of that time. Our guide was an amazing fountain of knowledge of art and the history of the Belvedere. Thank you so much.
Our guide, Ilse, was punctual, accommodating, interesting and so passionate. She made the history and art come alive and really applicable to our personal histories and the impact of the times, people and events that shape us. I learned things I did not know and I studied art history. I cannot recommend Ilse or this tour enough. Deeply touching. Incredible place and history, wonderful guide.
Suzanne was excellent - smart, engaged and perfect English! She helped us appreciate what we were seeing and also offered helpful suggestions for the rest of our trip in Vienna.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Belvedere. We toured the ground for about 45 minutes. Then we moved to the indoor area. A lot of time was devoted in admiring / analyzing the art works inside the museum. I believe it would be more suitable for people who are very into art. This was not what I had expected so was somewhat disappointed.
