A highly recommended tour, both entertaining and informative. Our guide Ricky was charming, able to share his passion for the historic winery and it's gorgeous atmospheric drives. As a fan of Sparkling Burgundy it was great to see where it was first made.

Itinerary
Join a Seppelt tour guide for a fascinating glimpse into Australia's pioneering wine history as you explore the heritage-listed underground cellars, known as "The Drives." These hand-dug cellars, excavated by out-of-work gold miners beginning in 1868, took over 60 years to complete and stretch for 3 kilometers, capable of holding over 3 million bottles of wine. The Drives are the largest underground cellars in the Southern Hemisphere and a must-visit in the Grampians Region. After emerging from the underground, enjoy a journey through Seppelt's sparkling wines, including the iconic Seppelt Sparkling Shiraz, first produced in the early 1890s. Tours depart from the Seppelt Wines Cellar Door daily at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. A visit to the Grampians is not complete without experiencing Seppelt Great Western's historic cellars.

We had Mark as our tour guide/history advisor. He was fantastic, confident and passionate and the history of the venue is amazing. This is well worth the visit and time. I would highly recommend to any visiting the area.
This tour with Mark was a great experience including the wine tasting at the end.
Very interesting and look forward to what the new owners do with the place - plenty of potential
The history was very interesting and the guide Mark was very helpful and knowledgeable. He took extra care as my husband and myself need a walking stick to get around. The tour in the tunnel was great but as we are unfit it took a bit out of us. All in all we would highly recommend it to anyone to go and give it a try.
An amazing experience of such a unique location. Mark was very knowledgeable and shared interesting facts and tips.
A must do ! Our guide, Ricky, led us on an informative, well paced & fascinating tour - with his wonderful sense of humour! Can highly recommend Ricky & the tour.
Highly recommend booking in for this tour. Well organised and so interesting. Ricky was such a knowledgeable and entertaining guide. Wear something warm as it’s chilly in the cellars.
Fantastic experience. Mark conducted the tour and was very knowledgeable and entertaining with some of his stories. The Sparkling wine tasting after was also very thorough and informative. Enjoyable couple of hours being well looked after by Mark and Ricky Highly recommended
We had a great time. Ricky was a fun and knowledgeable guide and the history of the place is just amazing. We knew a bit being “semi-locals” but it was great to what and see so much more. The underground area is fascinating to see. Complimentary tasting was also great and the trying room/cafe is warm and welcoming. Loved the St Peters Shiraz!
We just finished the 1pm tour and tasting with Ricky after a spur-of-the-moment decision to stop in at Seppelts at Great Western. The tour was fascinating and Ricky did an excellent job. The sparkling tastes a lot better than it did during my teens! It was impressive to learn that the community had banded together to keep the history/hospitality arms of the business alive after a corporate change of direction. Thanks Ricky and well done to everyone who has obviously worked hard to preserve this fascinating piece of Australian history.
This was a wonderful . We were at the cellar door when one was about to start so the attendant asked us if we would like to join in . It was so interesting and Tyler made it also entertaining
Tyler conducted a very entertaining tour. Would highly recommend visitors and locals
I've been looking for a unique experience in the Grampians and found this tour. It was a truly unexpected and wonderful experience. Ricky was clear, insightful and kind enough to take the time to explain our complimentary drinks for us. Thank you for the wonderful time.
We had an amazing experience with Mark at Seppeltsfield Winery. He took us on a fascinating tour through the underground cellars and shared so much knowledge about the winery's history and winemaking process. His passion and enthusiasm made the tour incredibly enjoyable. To top it off, Mark recommended a local spot for dinner afterwards, and it absolutely didn't disappoint. Thanks again for a fantastic experience we'd highly recommend a tour with Mark to anyone visiting Seppeltsfield!
Our guide Tyler was amazing ! I was nervous about taking my 6 year old high needs daughter but he made us and her feel so lovely! Honestly a great experience and super cool she even enjoyed it Well done Tyler 🥰
Had a great Cave tour. Tyler was an excellent guide!!!
Tyler was a wealth of information. A wonderful, engaging tour followed by a lovely tasting. Love the famous sparkling Shiraz and Pinot Meuner. Also cellar door not only had wines but a great collection of local goods.
Taryn was an amazing guide, knowledgeable and friendly, funny and entertaining. Her delivery was faultless and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience
Ricky was a wonderful guide, very informative, witty, and obviously has a passion for what he does. We walked away with a far greater appreciation for what goes into wine making - he made it a far better tour than what we had expected. Thanks Ricky 🙂
One of the most interesting experience you will have. The tour guide certainly new what he was talking about and was very interesting.
The underground tour was pretty good. We enjoyed the explanation.
We were fortunate to meet Ricky who ended up being our tour guide. We went on the historical wine tour. What an amazing tour that goes down in tunnels that were dug in the 1860's. So much history.
Thank you Tyler for such a fascinating and animated tour. You are a fantastic story teller and our kids (9 & 11) said they had so much fun especially the occasional jump scare which has us all in giggles. Highly recommend this tour and cellar door tasting experience. Thanks again
Mark was our guide, very knowledgeable and easy to listen too.
Four days’ notice to cancel a ticketed event that people have planned travel, accommodation, and time off work around is not acceptable. We organised our weekend around this Underground Dining experience. When you’re attending something in Great Western, it’s not exactly around the corner — there are bookings, fuel, possibly accommodation, and rearranged plans involved. To pull the plug less than a week out due to “booking numbers” shows either poor forecasting or a willingness to shift the inconvenience onto your customers. While a refund is offered, that doesn’t undo the disruption. The cost isn’t just the ticket price — it’s the time, planning and logistics that have now been wasted. It’s disappointing because the concept is fantastic and the marketing promises a premium experience. Unfortunately, the execution in this instance hasn’t matched that standard. Will not rebook, I'd certainly advise you to not
Had a great tour of the cellar with Mark, finished off with a tasting upstairs. Great to find a vineyard in Oz with a cellar and was super refreshing to be able to cool off from the heat. Mark was great and kept us entertained throughout, definitely worth booking the cellar tour. We're driving back to St Kilda with the sound track of clinking in the back. Perfect day!
We went expecting to find out about winemaking at Seppelt and to tour the tunnels. We got a tour of the tunnels, which are now disused but didn’t find out anything about Seppelt winemaking today. Our guide didn’t seem very knowledgable. Maybe worth dropping in if you’re passing but I wouldn’t make a trip just for this.
We really enjoyed the visit. Our guide, Tyler, provided an informative, fascinating and entertaining tour. He also made sure to include the kids which was great. We also enjoyed the tastings and platter.
Was a tour well worth doing, was amazing to be told about the history of Seppelt Great Western and very interesting, our tour guide Tyler was full of a lot of knowledge
Great tour of the extensive caves underneath the vineyard. Mark was a great guide and had a wealth of knowledge. The tasting afterwards was a nice way to end the tour. Mark generously gave our hungry kids some cheese and crackers which also helped
Tarryn was our guide. Tarryn was very informative and enthusiastic about her role. I recommend this tour to everyone, you don’t need to be a wine lover to get something out of this experience. It is jaw dropping. There is so much history and Tarryn is in her element delivering the story. Also, call in to the Great Western Hotel.
The tour was perfect for a very hot day! Tyler was passionate about sharing the story of Seppelt. The tour was interesting and not too long.
The tour was excellent. Great to see how wine was/is stored underground. Ricky was amazing and knowledgable..
Excellemt service highly recamended must visit when ever get chance ricky sales guy he is very good for wine testing he explain every details of the in house wine .
Great tour of the vineyard and cellars with the history of the brand. Luxury wine tasting was superb, some great sparkling wines.
The underground tour of the Seppelts Winery is a must do. We were a family group of four and the group total was a very comfortable eight. The underground area is massive and extends for 3.3kms. It is a mystery to imagine all the hand digging , the deviations are hard to believe . Lined with the great drops from Seppelts the history is beautifully explained by our Guide . The Tour takes you through the tunnels for approximately one hour and you witness the famed dinner setting setting. Can’t speak more highly of the professional aspects of the tour guide , just sensational. A white wine tasting is included in the tour. Highly recommend. Take a warm jacket and be a little wary of some uneven surfaces , otherwise a very easy and enjoyable walk . Off peak is the ‘Go’ 😉
Ricky did a fabulous job remembering our names & providing delicious food & wines for tasting. We enjoyed the sparkling Shiraz.
Awesome activity. The cellar was splendid. I can imagine what it feels like to work there. The tour guide was good in delivering the background story of the place, added with humour and creativity.
The tour was very informative and a lot of fun. The guide was knowledgeable and made the experience really enjoyable. Highly recommended tour!
We did the tour with Tyler, which was very pleasant and funny. Even though he was new, he seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the history of the place.
We booked online for the Tour plus a grazing platter for 2. What a great way to spend an afternoon! We arrived a little early for the tour so had a drink and our grazing platter which was fantastic value for money. Tom was our Tour Guide and presented an interesting and engaging tour. The winery is very interesting but the underground tunnels are next level. Lots of tunnels to walk through and so fascinating. This is a must see attraction. Afterwards we had generous tastings and finished off our platter. Lovely day.
This is the third time we have visited Seppelt’s and done the underground tour and tasting it is outstanding. You learn a lot about the history of the Great Western area and champagne making. A bonus is tasting a range of their outstanding sparkling wines We did the 12.00 AM tour (.our Guide Ricky was knowledgeable and entertaining )and followed it up with a grazing platter lunch. The whole experience was excellent
Wonderful insight into the history of the winery and the people who made it. Brought to life by Tyler our tour guide. Followed by a fantastic wine tasting
Very nice viewing of their historical setting. Unique cellar experience. Makes you want to have one of your own. Mark and Ricky gave some awesome backgrounds of the wines and we had a wonderful general conversation. More like going out for drinks with friends than a tasting.
Running a bit late we joined Taryn and a small intimate group of people on an enlightening tour over 170 years in the making. Breathtaking images were captured during an educational tour that will be forever in our top places to visit. Well worth a stop if in the vicinity of Great Western.
An amazing experience led by our informative and engaging guide, Taryn. Our tour could not have been delivered better. My husband and I left Seppelt with a greater appreciation of wine and respect for the laborious work of miners digging out over 3 kms of tunnels to form the underground cellars. Highly recommended this experience. If you haven’t done it yet, book to be immersed in the rich and extensive history of Seppelt. We have had this one on our to do list for sometime and weren’t disappointed. Thank you Taryn for a memorable visit. You obviously love what you do….. a great tour followed up with beautiful service afterwards.
Excellent experience on the Wine tunnels tour. Ricky our tour guide was very informative and did an amazing job. Would recommend this tour to everyone.
Was a terrific way to learn about the wine how it is produced and the region and tasting some of the different wine produced at the end of the tour.
Absolutely a great experience to visit the history of Seppelt as well as the underground tunnels. Absolutely fascinating tour which was made more interesting by our excellent tour guide Ricky. We have done this same tour 2 years ago with Tamika and would say they both are equally brilliant in their own knowledge style and humour they bring to this experience. The 4 of us will definitely be recommending this tour not to be missed to all of our family and friends especially with these two wonderful people who have been our guides. 🙏🙏
