We are 2 backpackers from Germany who had a lesson with another couple from WA and our instructor Luci it was very fun. We did some surfing already on the east coast already so we got a tips from her and suddenly trimmed along my first 'green wave'. She explains things super easy so it clicks straight away. Very good energy the whole time, didn’t feel stressful at all. If I’m back on the Great Ocean Road I’ll definitely book again 🙌 (pic of sunrise from anglesea)

Best of the best of the best of the best! What an absolute joy to take a surf lesson with Go Ride a Wave in Anglesea. I booked a 1.5hr private lesson with local legend Laura who was such a brilliant teacher. I initially missed my morning lesson due to traffic and Cheryl in the shop managed to make it work for the afternoon. Cheryl and Laura really went out of their way for me and I am eternally grateful. Being able to jump into the beautiful Australian waters brought me JOY! The water was 59F and the wetsuit was excellent. I felt not even a chill - just comfort and pure fun! Thank you Cheryl and Laura!
Stopped by for a surf class while driving Ocean Road, I took a class with my 2 daughters (17 and 14yo). First time surfing for all of us. Great experience, convenient location (get dressed at their shop, pick up a board and cross the street. Great explanations, great staff, very large beach with no rip currents, perfect for learning. That was great!!!
Within control: the facilities were functional and clean, individual changing rooms. Instructor Kas was absolutely lovely - informative, enthusiastic and generally a damn fine instructor. Outside of control: the waves were so good! I reckon I'd still give a 5 star if the waves were messy, though. It's just great being out there.
Had a great lesson with Joel - only a small group which was excellent for getting space and time to develop our skills with the assistance and support and encouragement of Joel. Definitely our favourite teacher so far :-) highly recommend!
A great Christmas present for the grandchildren. The instructors were fantastic with all the kids- encouraging and getting all of them up quickly!
An excellent experience. Will was an excellent surf teacher, he made the surfing lots of fun and showed me the basics and gave loads of useful tips and feedback. Would recommend.
We had a great private surf lesson with Oa from Go ride a wave. She was amazing teaching our two boys at 8 and 9 years to surf and gave them their best experience ever. It was their first time surfing and she was a 100 % invested dragging them and their boards out to the waves and helping them onto the boards. She even taught them tricks and they are now hooked on surfing. Our boys speak little English being from Denmark but Oa made them feel very safe and brave in the water and they totally understood each other anyway. Thanks 😍
Great two hours! Our Instructors Charlotte and the guy (sorry didn’t get his name! started with D!) were excellent, they move around the group and give everyone one on one time and seemed genuinely pleased when someone did well. Will defo be doing this again
Despite picking one of the worst weather days for surfing, the instructors did a great job of making it interesting and giving us plenty of guidance. Definitely go with this group if you are in the area.
I had a fantastic experience learning to Stand Up Paddleboard today at Anglesea. Joel was not only a fantastic teacher but also very friendly and supportive. I was a bit worried that my only talent might be falling in, but with Joel’s fabulous instruction, patience and support I am able to say YES I can stand up and paddle. It was a great day and I highly recommend Go Ride A Wave. If this 66 year old can do it, anyone can!
We are complete surfing beginners but we loved this! Partly because surfing is a looooot of fun, and partly because our instructor (called Oa) was fantastic - she really knew what she was talking about, had a great attitude to teaching (and life!), she got in the water with us to give us tips up close, and she also did a mid-lesson "debrief" to point out things she'd noticed that we could work on. There were 5 of us in the class (my fiancee and I, a friend of ours and another couple we didn't know), which was a great size for learning, and the beach/sea felt also safe here for beginners. We just had a lot of fun, highly recommended :)
Me and my girlfriend had a private lesson with Joel and loved every single minute of it. It was our very first surf lesson and picked it up super fast due to our amazing instructor. 5 stars!
I was given a voucher for stand up paddle board lesson. It was fantastic. Joel was my instructor and he was the best! Very informative and relaxed. I had a great time with lots of laughs. Thanks Joel!
My daughter and I had our first surf lesson with instructor Joel. Learned so much, well worth the private lesson. Joel was a great instructor with lots of great advice around surfing techniques and water safety, all done with lots of fun. Highly recommend a visit!
The kids had the best week with the ride a wave crew, who made sure each kid had individual 1:1 time to hone their skills asked on age and experience. The crew made each lesson memorable and informative and most of all fun. Highly recommend to do with siblings or friends as a group
Cobber was a highly professional, friendly and knowledgable instructor. This was my very first attempt at stand up paddle boarding and I couldn't have asked for a more patient, encouraging and informative instructor. I had so much fun (and managed to maintain my balnce on the board) it was the highlight of my trip.
I was a little apprehensive undertaking a solo SUP lesson but I needn’t have been. My instructor, my guide, my guru was Joel and I was so very fortunate to be paired with him. We paddled around the waterways of Anglesea and we chatted like two friends would, it was effortless and so much fun. I really cannot speak highly enough of Joel and his positive and nurturing demeanour. I recommend a solo lesson, it was great to be able to have that one on one interaction and honestly, after a little while I could not call it a lesson at all as it was simply two people paddling around chatting and enjoying the experience, I shall be back in a few months for a one on one surf lesson, and I shall be requesting the Joel is my instructor!
It was such a fun, positive and engaging experience. Out surf instructor Tano was really encouraging and made the lesson fun. He was a relaxed and helpful teacher. I highly recommended Go ride a wave Anglesea 😀
Had a great time learning how to surf! Tim the instructor was brilliant. He was super chill but made you feel whatever you did was amazing , and gave you the confidence to try again! Would recommend highly learnt lots too about the ocean and swimming! Big thanks had a fab time 😍
This was the best day out!! We did a private lesson as a family (2 adults, kids 11 and 13). Joel was so incredibly reassuring and welcoming, made everything seem so achievable and ensured we all had success. Great facilities, lovely staff. We had heaps of fun and would def go again. Highly recommend!!
Fantastic experience for three German exchange students. The instructor was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, making the whole session really fun. It was a bucket list item ticked off for these boys.
Had an amazing couple of hours of learning at Anglesea this weekend. Zander was full of energy and was really detailed in his instructions and tips. Highly recommend Go Ride A Wave and Zander as an instructor. Planning on coming back to learn with them until I'm good to go by myself
We love Go Ride a Wave at Anglesea, always have. But I need to call out how wonderful my son’s last two classes have been. Both Etienne and Alex were nothing short of amazing, going out of their way to ensure my son not only had fun but improved his surfing technique. Alex even took us to a different beach today so my son could practice catching green waves. Thank you Go Ride a Wave, you are a special part of our family and a reason why we enjoy going down the coast so frequently.
Fantastic experience, hosted by great instructors who go out of their way to get you upright on a wave! Highly recommended, but do the full 3xlession surf course! You will not regret it!
Really fun and easy to book and all was very smooth flowing. Loved all of it and no complications whatsoever.
Friendly instructors, a great balance of personalised advice and being able to get in as much practice as possible. The process ran very smoothly from the start (booking online, etc) and as someone with absolutely no experience, it was super safe, as well as having people in the class with more experience. I'll be returning for sure
Zander was such a good teacher, he helped catch waves, encouraged and gave lots of tipps. I would definitely recommend this business.
Totally loved it. Everything was well-organised and my eleven year old son had a wonderful time learning to surf with Sid, who was patient and made the experience fun. He even managed to stand up on the board a couple of times which made his day. I would highly recommend this.
Definitely recommend to do if you haven’t! The staff are very lovely and the instructor Lucy was awesome at teaching, explaining and super cool.
My kids had a fantastic time in their surf lesson. Xander (their instructor) was really nice, super patient and really encouraging when my youngest was a bit nervous and eventually go there standing up (sort of) I highly recommend trying this surf school because you will learn a lot.
Outstanding service, from promptly answering questions we raised prior to booking, right through to the surfing lesson. Laura and Charlotte were fantastic instructors, really great with the kids, they were so welcoming, and made the kids feel at ease. They were knowledgeable, patient, understanding and encouraging, which made the lesson a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The kids had an absolute ball!! Thank you so much. Joel
Best surf lesson. Great teacher. Very encouraging and wonderfully pleasant. Thank you for looking after us. We will be ab j again December for refresher.
Bought a 3 lesson pack for my daughter and I. Loved the experience and the chance to build on our skills. Really helpful and kind instructors, beautiful location. We are now addicted. We’ll be back for another 3 pack.
Had a great time learning to surf. The instructors were fun, patient and informative. Can’t wait to put it into practice when next I go for a surf.
Lucy was fantastic and explained everything really well. She gave us all personalised tips and was really encouraging. Perfect conditions and a great experience.
This is a great experience for anyone looking to try surfing and a must-do activity if you are in Angelsea. Me and my partner did the two hour introduction to surfing and, it was so much fun the lesson flew by. The two instructors Xavier and Zander (I am probably getting their names wrong) were really friendly and great at explaining everything. They went through the safety procedures and basics of surfing on land and when we were in the water they took time with each person in the group giving them tips and making sure everyone caught a wave. The beach is very beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone that isn't overly confident in the water, It was a really fun experience and a great introduction to surfing. Thanks guys :)
The whole experience was great for my teenagers. Instructors were fantastic. Attention to detail perfect.
My two children aged 10 and 8 had an hour and a half lesson with Jack. He was thorough and patient and they were standing up surfing waves in no time. They absolutely loved it. Highly recommend!
Great service, great people - the Anglesea beach is friendly to beginners like my partner and I, we had lots of fun. Our instructor Zander was patient and very helpful in terms of pointing out where we need to improve. All the people in the group managed to stand up in the session. Would love to come back for another session and work on our skills.
Ride a wave Anglesea - We had a great time hiring boards and having a go at surfing at Anglesea Great people, great service, all round great vibes!
I joined the group session run by Jordon. He was excellent. Jordon gave equal helpful progressions to each group member. His skills analysis and coaching was spot on and yielded fast progress and results for all. Very worthwhile, professionally run. Highly recommended. As a 65 yr old first timer I was treated equally and well. Thanks. Loved it.
Skye and Jordan were absolutely awesome instructors to my 11 year old daughter. The lesson was not only fun but provided great guidance, support and enthusiastic feedback. Both the instructors were helpful, most friendly, engaging and fun! In no time at all my daughter was catching many waves. Highly recommended!! Will definitely visit again soon!
The idea of surfing had always appealed to us and Mum's school camps were instructed by Go Ride A Wide and their experiences were always great. Will, Dean & Fiona at Go Ride A Wave were all very supportive and constantly gave us assistance and feedback throughout the lesson. It was so much fun, 2 hours felt like 15 mins! An awesome and memorable school holidays. We'll definitely be back!
Fantastic way to spend a couple of hours! Heaps of fun and our surf instructor Dean was fun, patient and helpful. Would highly recommend and I’ll definitely go again.
Another awesome surfing lesson in Anglesea, the kids improved their pop ups and their friends who joined us this time had a ball 😊
We had a fantastic time! My partner and I had never surfed before and these lessons are great for beginners. Our guide Jordan was really friendly, super helpful and made the experience really great. Highly recommended.
Our 8 year old son and 7 year old niece had the best time learning to surf with Xander and Xavier! They were highly engaging and great communicators which meant the kids were successful in standing up on the birds! Very happy and tired kids after their session. Highly recommend.
Super friendly staff, first focus safety & customer service. Mr 14 caught loads of waves, I happily got pummelled. Great family day, highly recommend 👍
The team were very friendly, clear in there instructions and very helpful. Each time one of the instructors saw me ride a wave they would give me further tips to do better. Its the perfect way to learn how to surf
