Came here for the 2nd time with family to celebrate my mom’s 60th. We were all so amazed and we enjoyed every second of our tour. We have commented on how the ticket price is worth every money we spent. We also ate at the resto and we loved all of the food and the mocktails. We ordered the cactus cake and it did not disappoint. And this was despite the owner being short of hand on that day, she wasn’t only great at her job, she’s also very friendly and accommodating.

The gardens are stunning with a wide range of cacti to admire. Very inspiring! The artwork throughout is beautiful too, took so many pictures for inspiration for home! Still giving five stars but would love them to have more cactus food products in the store to take home, and books. I would have spent a ton if they did, but got some cactus honey. The menu in the restaurant was great with many dishes incorporating cacti. Definitely worth a stop and another trip to the plant store in the future!
AMAZING collection of cactus' in a mexican themed park. Just stunning to walk around and I love that it is dog friendly! I had the cactus ice cream which was delicious and bought myself a wee collection of cactus' to take home. Staff were also delightfully friendly. Well worth the drive from Melbourne!
Fun stop on a drive around Northern Victoria. Impressive array of cacti plus some great products in the shop to try - cactus cake and cactus ice cream for instance. Well signed paths and easy walking.
Me and mate drove from wagga and had a good day time seeing all cactuses. Tacos were nice to. The place was expanding. Some of the Cactuses were huge. Staff were friendly
Never knew how many cactus and succulents existed. We were searching for things to do whilst staying in Echuca and hubby came across this. So glad he did. It was amazing. We spent a few hours there as it is quite a large site to cover. Very well laid out and signposted. We’ve never been to Mexico, but it certainly felt as if we were there. They also have a cafe which serves Mexican food. We had lunch there, nachos with chilli con carne and chicken on the side. Thank goodness we decided to share as there was plenty of food, no stinginess in their servings. The staff were really lovely, friendly and very helpful. Also great for coeliacs, which my husband happens to be.
What a cute little gem this place is. Had heard about it & happened to be passing through the area so stopped in for a quick visit. Really unique experience, good value for money & staff were absolutely lovely :) walked the gardens & had nachos & a frozen slushy drink which were all really good!! Unfortunately we didn’t have much time spare, but will definitely be back to spend some more time on the tracks next time - definitely a must do :) got to purchase & take home a cute living souvenir too :) glad we stopped in :)
I had high expectations from what I had seen on Instagram. I was greatly disappointed. We arrived and firstly was blown over by the entrance price. It was over $80 for my husband, son, my elderly mother and myself, way too expensive for what it is. Then we had lunch on top of that. Lunch was good but not amazing, and the staff lovely. This is where the good ends. We spent half an hour walking around and that was enough. It was a repeat of the same thing over and over again. The grounds need a lot of love and attention. They look very unkept. A lot of weeds and dead cactus branches. It has the potential to be made more interesting. A better layout with better paths would be a start. Maybe have little signs up naming the cactus and where it is from. The photos I took were only of the good bits and do not show the full picture. The whole set up could do with a face lift as it looks very tired.
Love the variety of cactus on show very interesting specimens Visit the cafe for a drink & some Mexican food, the cactus cake & icecream are unlike anything else but very yummy Thanks to the helpful & informative staff for a great visit
Absolutely lovedddddd Cactus Country!! The layout was just phenomenal. The amount of extremely matured catci blew my mind. There is about 12 acres with more being developed. We stayed for lunch & had the chicken + the pork nachos, plus a frozen margarita & a cactus lemonade. Everything was sensational. I wish it was closer so I could visit more often. This place is dog friendly too!
Beautiful place to visit. Super friendly staff Excellent food with lots of vegetarian and vegan options.
Visited on a weekend on a beautiful sunny day. Love that it's dog friendly & we could walk around with our dog on the lead. Really enjoyed all the different trails & amazed at how many different types of cactus there are. Many were flowering when we visited & the colours were gorgeous. We dined there also, shared the nachos with pulled pork which was tasty & also tried the cactus cake & cactus ice cream. Staff friendly & welcoming. Recommend as a fun day out for all ages.
Really enjoyed cactus country. Very well set up and well worth seeing all the varieties of cactus and the beautiful murals.
We mucked up the times the garden was open and the lovely lady that worked there let us in, we had driven an hour to get there so that wonderful of her to help is out. The garden it self is huge and something unusual to see and I was surprised at how established and nicely it was set out and some of the cactus are beautiful when the flower. There are some fun photo op’s set up around the garden as well. We enjoyed our stroll around the garden. When in the area go see it, a little bit of Mexico at home.
ABSOLUTELY EPIC!! So many varieties of cacti that I have never seen before. The views were out of this world. Their cactus cake and cactus ice cream was so incredibly delicious and like nothing I’ve ever had before. So amazing
It was an awesome experience. We love cacti and succulents, and this visit booked online was a highpoint for us, for 2024. We wondered through the gardens starting with sections named pink, blue, white, purple, orange.....etc We were given a map by the lovely lady at the reception and directions on the sections with the most flowers at the time. There were cacti we had never come across before - some like snakes, some as tall as a mature eucalyptus tree, some like the many headed cobra from Indian mythology, some naturally shaped to different formations. They were certainly a delight to see. The sculptures of Mexican amigos and others strewn across our path, certainly added additional beauty and value to our total experience. At the end we sat down in the coffee shop to eat the delicious cactus cake and drink a chai latte. The cake tastes similar to a carrot cake and is served with cream and honey. We didn't try the cactus ice cream (but in retrospect we wish we had!). The area is being developed and there is a pink domed structure up a slope that gives an aerial view around the gardens. This is a good photo opportunity. When we were leaving, we noted the cacti plant sales area and purchased a plant that was unique to our garden! We were certainly two very happy people that day! The imagination and drive of the founder is certainly amazing. This is a visit that must not be missed if you are passing through the area.
Absolutely fascinating but would be so much better if there were mobility scooters available for hire. It is too big for those with limited mobility to really see it all.
There is an insane amount of cactus set in a well designed space with beautiful architecture and art. It was prettt mind blowing.
Visited in June, so not many flowers to see. Overall, an underwhelming experience. Whilst there are plenty of different cacti on display, the venue seemed very tired. Broken garden lights left laying around, sections where weeding had not been done for many months and at the lookout dome three empty herbicide containers just left amongst plastic barricade material on the entrance ramp - not a good look for a tourist attraction. In my opinion, not good value for $22.50 entrance ticket.
Amazing amount of cactus to see and easy to get around we Loved all the Garden and loved taking photos .so many highlights
We're disappointed that we paid $17.50 each, that was the concession price, to simply walk around the various garden areas. Sure the cactus is interesting but not that much. Similarly the cactus desserts on offer were expensive.
I follow these guys on Instagram so of course needed to come here one day, that day being this weekend. We booked an Airbnb nearby and visited for a couple of hours on Saturday. I adore cactus and succulents, I have so many at home but for some reason our visit felt both underwhelming & overwhelming at the same time. The scale of cactus gardens is impressive but you unfortunately get overstimulated by the scale of cactus due to areas not being well landscaped or mapped out so one section literally looks like the next and the next and so forth. If garden paths were better laid out it may have offered a better experience and distinction from one area to the next and there are no signs in each area telling you what each cactus is, no stories about the farm so the experience felt a bit soulless. Maybe this information was available via the online map but given the scale of the venue and the glare from sun the last thing you want to do was to have your phone out. It was kind of like going to the zoo but having no descriptions or indicators of what animals you were seeing or where they came from or what their story was so you’re left you to guess what you are seeing. There were literally no signs, no stories, no depth as to what you were seeing and there was a lot to see. The place also felt very run down, something Instagram does not capture. This place has huge potential and we were glad to have visited but to make it a place you may wish to come back to, it definitely needs some soul available to visitors, something as simple as signage within the garden to tell people what cactus they are looking at, disclosing the history behind the garden within each section discovering something new within that story - That would have made the visit more memorable and given the opportunity to then tell family and friends the story of where we had been. Instead the only thing I could say when asked how our visit went was that I was glad to have visited, things felt run down and soulless and that there was no real distinction from one area to the next despite there supposedly being a good 5 different areas indicated by staff. We could not tell the differences between the areas. Photo opportunities are plentiful, no bad photos could be taken but unfortunately a photo does not show a true reflection of the experience. We took a lot of photos which is why we were able to stay at the gardens so long (1.5 hours) but as we were all on our phones taking photos it felt like an unsocial interaction, kind of like when you go out to dinner with that friend that must take the perfect shot of the food before you’re allowed to eat. The 1.5 hour visit kind of felt like that unfortunately because everyone had their phones out and the funny or sad thing was everyone we saw there was doing the same thing. In a group but solo taking photos. If there were signs around the gardens you could at least read about garden history, cactus type etc, this could have offered opportunities where everyone could come together and learn about the gardens together. Had we not had our phones out we probably could have walked the gardens in a good 30 minutes. The cactus plant sales nursery was also very underwhelming as plants available were very small, very expensive and was not a good reflection of what we had just seen out in the gardens. It was not a nursery abundant in plants, it was kind of like going to a market stall and only having 10 small plants to choose from. The shop was also very small, soaps on sale were dusty, one had a dead fly on top of it and skin care products that were very pricey but no samples available so the skincare bottles were also very dusty as I’d imagine no one was buying these due to no samples on offer. Inside the cafe was bright and fun, exactly like what you see on Instagram but this space only makes up a good 10% of the scale of cactus country. The cactus gardens unfortunately does not share the same energy as the interior areas. Cactus country is a perfect location for those wishing to take the perfect shot for social media or those curious about the gardens based on what they may have seen on social media. Definitely a place worth seeing just that once and maybe in future we’d come back if things were designed to take in the soul of this place because after reading the history of the gardens on the cactus country website (we only read this after our visit) this place definitely has soul, it just can’t be seen on the grounds of the garden yet. Hopefully this review can be seen as a constructive true reflection of our visit experience and is in no way created to put people off attending these gardens. We are grateful for the experience we really do hope to visit this place again one day as there is so much potential here.
Beautiful experience, worth the visit. Cactus cake was exciting in their food menu. It is Open park so come prepared with Sun Lotion. They offer umbrella to save from Sun or Rain. Food Court ambience is good. Staff members are very friendly.
Friendly welcoming staff thank you Kotti. Excellent coffee and the cactus 🌵 cake and icecream was delicious 😋. The cactus gardens were well designed with plenty of information to work out the different cactus.
Beautiful experience, worth the visit. Remember to arrive early, as it can get very hot. We actually visit January 2021.
Good for family visit. Cactus cake amazing. Lots of puddles and unmade areas but okay I guess. Good weather so we enjoyed being under the sun.
The Cactus Country exceeded my expectations, I thought it would be smaller but it was 12 acres jam-packed of beautiful cacti. It was perfect to go with friends to take lots of photos and admire the beauty. The food was delicious and the decorations inside were beautiful. The map that is given to you is easy to read and follow and the staff are happy to answer any questions you may have. The cacti shop is full of gems to take home
Whilst there were cacti everywhere, and the ice cream and cake were great, it would have been good to have more signage and descriptions along each trail. I didn’t want to be trying to look at my phone whilst the sun was shining and I’m trying to enjoy looking around. It was quite overpriced for the tickets and my 6yo was over it in the first 5 or so minutes. The price of the cacti was quite expensive too.
Lovely outing and a hit if you're into cacti and succulents. My dad had a blast and it was the second time I've been. Was fortunate enough to see some blooms too! Huge garden with plenty to explore and a cafe to enjoy before or after! Also very dog friendly!
The range of cacti was mind-blowing and the flowering cactus were spectacular!! Go as soon as you can so you don’t miss the flowers. Eat the cactus cake with cactus ice cream. And book a tour with John to learn fascinating cacti facts and about the property. Great place for photography with the desert scape and Dr Seuss-like freaky plant profiles. The staff were friendly staff and we had a wonderful day in this unique and amazing place.
An amazing experience after travelling there with some uncertainty. Great experience of the senses with hundreds of different cactuses
We enjoyed the walk around and seeing so many varieties of cactus. Bought the cactus cake, was different but delicious.
The range of cacti was extensive and impressive and and well worth seeing. although it was not quite the same as walking the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. The entry price was far too high even though it is a place where you can purchase various succulents which also are not low cost. The other negative was the lack of signs describing the cacti. Overall good, could have been better and pricing is too high for that but purchase plants.
This garden is so impressive and I don’t like cacti that much. Cheerful friendly staff clean restrooms on a very busy Easter Monday, well done
Very expensive for what it is...$17.50, labels on plants needed. Messy..needs a clean up. But nice day out...staff super friendly, and have a cafe on site!
Great day so many varieties of cacti. Well set out and the people are very friendly and welcoming. We had a snack of nachos and the Gin very tasty such a quirky place would visit again.
So cool! Meticulously maintained gardens. The creator has really put an amazing amount of effort into this place and it shows. Such a funky place for a pit stop. The place is surprisingly big. Didn’t get a chance to try the cactus food as I was in a rush to get to a job. This place is an instagram influencers dream btw.
Hits: Huge variety of cacti within the sprawling property. The cement structure on top of a small hill offered respite from the heat - and we loved seeing the 360 view of the garden from here. There is also a nursery where you can buy potted small cacti. We tried the cactus cake and cactus ice cream and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Misses: There were lots of unattended areas with empty pots and spaces. Due to the rain overnight, there were lots of blocked flooded walking areas - we've had to cross through the cacti.
Over priced entry for what's on offer. Dog friendly which is a plus! Dining not available when we were there (apparently due to COVID-19) but told if we want to drive back into town and buy something we could bring it back and eat it there! What a joke! The beer was cold tho! Not a great variety of succulents or cacti on offer for sale and those that were were very poor looking specimens. A long day trip with not much to see at the end.
I will say from the onset, I am not a cactus fan, at all... I was dragged kicking and screaming to Cactus Country...it was hot...damn hot...44 degrees... in tow with our puppy... HOT... Let me say this...being met by the smiling faces of staff, with sincere empathy for the heat and type of day we had driven up for was amazing. They were terrific, kind, nice, pleasant and most of all understanding, their hospitality was second to none!! We were offered fresh cold water for ourselves and puppy, we took many breaks, sat in the shade, enjoyed the sprinklers, watered our pup and chilled...in the heat. We tasted the local Mexican drinks and overall...we had a ball... I may well have become a Cactus convert... The experience was amazing, truly, the effort and desgin is not to be missed, but moreso the various types, styles, themes and positioning of the Cacti were truly captivating. Take your camera!! We used both phones and a DSLR...you can never have enough pictures!! We will definitely be back...
My wife and I visited Cactus Country as we were in the area. It was easy to find and a joy to pass the signs as we entered down the driveway. I have not visited a cactus garden previously, so I really enjoyed the experience. I am not a cactus enthusiast, so some of the different varieties are a little lost on me but I certainly learned a few things by following the guide and the reference points. Staff were very cheerful, which left a positive feel.
What an amazing place, who knew there were that many different cactus. You really felt like you were in another place standing in the middle of these gardens. Highly recommend going here. Loved every part of it. The owners were lovely and very friendly. You have to try the cactus ice cream & cake! We will definitely go back. It is kid friendly & dog friendly
This was our second visit to Cactus Country, after feeling we were cut short during our first visit due to our friend needing to be somewhere at a certain time. This time, however, we left ourselves plenty of time to explore, eat cactus cake and buy a few cacti to take home. The garden is seriously impressive and a true pleasure to walk around. I had no idea there were so many varieties of Cacti. I'd love to come out for a night visit - I bet the starts are simply stunning! Keep up the great work, team! Can't wait to see how the gardens develop!
We drove to Cactus Country on the Anzac long weekend and really enjoyed our time here. The owners are doing the best to their ability to keep the plants alive especially over here in Australia, let alone Victoria. We all know how unpredictable the weather is here. But we both had a lovely time walking around, learning about the different cactus plants there is. Its nice to take the kids to go and have a nice family outing here, really spend some time looking at the different types of cactus we are fortunate to be able to see, that most of us wouldn't be able to unless we go see them in their natural habitat.
It's a very long way to go from Melbourne if that is all you are there to see, make sure you find something else to do on the drive. the entry price of $17.50 each is a bit steep for what it is, but it has a lot of potential. i understand they have been growing for up to 30 years and a lot f work is needed to make the gardens, but if you don't know a lot about cactus or plants in general, there seems to be just a lot of the same thing with a few interesting tall ones. the extension looks like it will be getting much bigger soon, with a shelter on top of the hill!!! Hopefully, it will be different to the rest. there is really no shade at all in the area they have there, so going on a sunny day over 25 deg is hot, (even though you can borrow an umbrella and a hat). The cactus ice-cream was really good and the cake was nice; for $10 plate.. overall, there are some interesting things to see that wouldn't be in other places, in Australia at least. all a bit dry and gets a bit messy in places, maybe a few signs in the gardens explaining the different things would be good.
Today we visited Cactus Country but were quite shocked at the price of entry so expected to find something amazing for the cost. The plants are every interesting and was great to see so many varieties, but the further you entered the premises sadly the experience was disappointing. Paths requiring maintenance, plants that had either blown over or died had not been removed and you could see this had not only just happened, it sadly looks very tired and unloved. I see a post to say that you are adding another 8 acres, great to see you are expanding, but please maintain what you have first if you are going to charge such high entry fees. The plants in the shop are great but again very pricey.
We attended with a 6 year old and he abosultely loved reading the map and directing us around the cactus. It is amazing what they have created with cactus and images. The hosts are friendly and the food was delicious. The cactus cake and honey ice cream was 100% DELICIOUS! The cactus cider was nice and the whole experience was one to keep. I am planning on coming back when its night time. What a experience to be had. Loved the paintings and images around the place. We loved the entry and the images leading to the car park!
This is a really pricey place for looking around. We went to Rich Glen Olive Farm with beautiful gardens and local produce.... free. Went to Byramine Homestead, cost $6.00 each to tour the homestead and we received free tastings of chosen locally brewed drinks. Arrived at Cactus Country at 3pm and it cost us $30 to get in, and that was seniors discounted! After you have done two paths then it all looks the same but I wanted to try the Cactus cake so we went to the cafe section and ordered an iced chocolate, an iced coffee and cactus cake.... we were the only people there but had to wait 15 minutes to receive our order. My iced chocolate had so little chocolate you could not taste it. The iced coffee was made with hot coffee and was not cold to drink. The Cactus cake with citrus syrup I enjoyed, even though it had been frozen and defrosted. All told I would not recommend visiting this place as there is no value for the high cost..... was good for the first 20 minutes but een that is not wrth the cost to get in.
We had a great trip we really enjoyed walking around the garden and the owners were really lovely people Positive The place was set up really nice and gave an Amazing Mexican vibe It’s really really maintained The tracks are easy to walk around and give a great tour of all the different regions of where the cactus came from It could be better if there was an there was a bit more information on all the different cactus such as information signs as you walk around otherwise the experience was 10/10 A must go to for families and groups
Incredible cactus and wild flower. They have wonderful and friendly staff, yummy food and cactus cider. This was the first time I had ever seen so many kinds of cactus like that in my life. I love their concept and decoration as well. Love the place so much! Must-list to do near Melbourne and highly recommended!
