It was an absolute highlight of my trip to VIC FALLS. I would recommend this activity for everyone that needs to feel alive. Wild Horizons was excellent. A special shout out to our guide Colgate. An amazing man with years of experience. He at all times put our safety first and that put my mind at ease. He also made sure that we all understood his instructions and also took a lot of pride in making the experience fun and memorable! Good briefing at the Lookout Cafe, before being taken into the park to the launch point. Be aware that the route to the launch site is steep and requires the use of ladders. In my view, this adds to the experience. The rafting was exhilarating and we were accompanied by amazing kayakers who were there to ensure our safety. We were given clear instructions on how we would progress through the rapids, and what to do in the event of a capsize and then went through rapid #1 at the bottom of Vic Falls. You will get wet. You will probably end up in the river at some point. It can be a bit scary at times but be assured that the team know what they are doing. But most of all, its great fun, and you will have the best time. The climb out of the gorge at the end is tough. I would also like to mention that the guides were very helpful to get us, safe up to gorge and never hurried us to get to get to the top. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the top on very steep rocky trails and homemade wooden ladders. It’s worth it though, as at the end you’ll get great food and a cold beer. Thank you to the team for one of the best days in my life.
Best experience. you will definitely enjoy the white water rafting. Steve was our guide and he was amazing . I was very nervous but he put my mind at ease explained each rapid and how we would approach it. The meal at the end was very good . Thanks to the whole team best day and would have done again if we had more time in Vic Falls.
WOW !! What an experience !! Be warned about the climb down at the start and the climb up at the end , can be tough. But it is soooooo worth it. Our captain was fantastic and did not take any slackers , you have to follow instructions but that gets you through. Would we do this again ? Oh YES !!!
It was certainly one of the BEST things to do at Vic Falls without a doubt. Good points: - The white water rafting itself was exhilarating! A huge adrenaline rush a really fun activity to do with friends! - Our guide, Stuart was GREAT! We really trusted him and he made us feel safe throughout. - Food was good and all safety equipment provided. Bad points: - When we signed up the Look Up, the lady at the counter was very unfriendly and cold. Not welcoming at all. Worse still, she didn’t put our booking into the system. - The next day we waited 1.5 hours to be picked up. We called 4 times before they found our booking and apologised for overlooking us and then took another 44 mins to find the house we were staying at. - the briefing about the activity was minimal - no information on duration or about the HUGE 600 m climb at the end. - we thought the activity was the whole day and would finish at 4pm, and then it ended at 1pm.
I have white water rafted in Italy, Albania, Slovenia, Iceland and Nepal. The Zambezi River was the best I have ever done. I can't recommend it enough. I also recommend Wild Horizons.
100% amazing. Every single aspect of the days adventure was simply fantastic. The briefing, the guides friendliness and helpfulness, the actual rafting, the walk out and how the guides helped those who needed it, the lunch, the people who were on the trip. The fun!!!! Absolutely the best adventure we've had in Zimbabwe. We booked through Shearwater - that I wouldn't recommend as they don't run it anymore, WH do it and so should have gone direct. Well done WH
What an incredible day!! We got picked up from our accom and taken to the meeting point (Lookout cafe). There we got a run-down and instructions on what was going to happen. It took an hour in an open truck to get to the site, loved seeing everything tho!! Next we walked down to the river, which took approx 45min, it’s rocky and you have to be sure footed!! Jumped in the raft with a family from the UK, got lessons and off we went!! Absolutely looooved it, every second of it! There were 3 other rafts near us, people from each raft, including ours, fell out! The water however was not ice cold like we imagined, wasn’t too bad at all given it is winter here! Next….the hike back up the side of the canyon….not easy AT ALL. It took us (mid-50’s in good health) to get back up to the top, exhausting, hot, hard damned work. When we finally got to the top we had a lovely lunch and drinks, then jumped back in the truck and headed back, of course it’s a diff way as we were at a diff part of the canyon. Dropped off directly at our accom. Had a shower, scrubbed very dirty shoes then rapidly fell asleep 😂😂. I would happily do it again but this time would train on a step-climber for sometime beforehand. I can’t feel my thighs or arse today 😂😂
saw 3 people get injured, and many others suffered from dehydration, severe muscle cramps, and exhaustion. There was very little assistance for people who struggled. COMPANY needs to do better built bettee trail fix with engineer . . I would not recommend it to anyone except those in excellent physical condition. If you have any heart, breathing, knee, or back problems, avoid it. Also breakfast sucks you must be well feed , the lunch was ok.
The rafting was great fun, and very exhilarating. The staff were great. Felt very safe due to the equipment and the staff in the boat and in support boats. Be prepared for a steep climb in and out of the gorge to get to the river, but it's worth it. We bought the photo's and they were good value, some great shots reminding us of good memories.
Our family of 4 - kids 23 & 16 had such an amazing day going down the Zambezi River with 12 different rapids; flipped on one (bit scary) & all scrambled back on; some free swimming with the current. Such a memorable day and very steep walk down & up to rafts !
It was a thrilling experience riding the rapids of the almighty Zambezi River. Fantastic highly recommended. Complimentary lunch was provided with beer and soft drinks was offered after activity. Guides were super helpful and kind. The only word of caution that unless you in really good shape the hike out of the gorge is grueling and will leave you exhausted.
We had an awesome experience! The team is highly professional. They insisted on maximal safety and security while not forgetting to make sure we had a lot of fun.
I have rafted numerous times and this was right up there with the best of them. Our guide was excellent and very funny the way he described the rapids and we had a great group who paddled hard so we stayed in the boat!! Stunning scenery and the best fun.
My first time rafting experience and surely not the last. It’s full of adrenaline and teamwork. The guides were on spot with safety and communication, very experienced in the river and very friendly. Definitely recommended. Also one of the best value for money activities in Victoria Falls Town, without a doubt.
Incredible experience! Just take into account the Really Though Hiking after rafting, with super high temperatures and killing sun. If I had to make it again I would choose shockwaves as they’re starting at the boiling pot including rapid #1, meanwhile we started in #2 with shearwaters, they simply skipped the beginning that is the most beautiful view without any explanation
My wife and I chose to do white water rafting at Victoria Falls, expecting a thrilling but well-managed adventure. What we got instead was a dangerously misleading and terrifying experience due to gross negligence from Shearwater. Deceptive Description of the Hike From the start, the company was completely dishonest about how difficult and dangerous the hike down to the rafts is—and even worse, the grueling climb back up at the end. They made it seem easy, but in reality, the hike is extremely demanding, especially for anyone who isn’t in top physical condition. The final ascent was brutal, with steep ladders and rocky terrain, making it nearly impossible for older participants or those with any health concerns. Incompetent and Dangerous Guiding The guide we had was shockingly unskilled. He failed to steer the raft properly, causing us to hit a rapid sideways—something that should never happen if a guide knows what they’re doing. As a result, our raft flipped in one of the most dangerous rapids. I was trapped under the boat for about 10 seconds, but my wife was stuck for a terrifying 30 seconds. The most appalling part? The guides made no effort to ensure everyone had safely surfaced after the flip. When I told a guide I couldn't see my wife, he brushed it off, saying she had made it out. It wasn’t until another passenger spotted someone still trapped under the boat that a guide finally jumped in to help. That level of negligence is beyond unacceptable. My wife was completely traumatized, and I genuinely believed I was going to drown. Crocodiles in the Water We were assured that crocodiles wouldn’t be in the areas where we entered the water—only to see one lurking near the rocks after a rapid. Another outright lie that put everyone at risk. Another Unexpected Grueling Hike As if the experience wasn’t difficult enough, one of the rapids was deemed too dangerous, forcing us into yet another exhausting 2km hike over tough terrain to get back to the raft. This was never disclosed beforehand, making it even more frustrating. Shearwater’s Shameful Dishonesty and Negligence Despite claiming their guides have 15+ years of experience, Shearwater failed at even the most basic safety protocols. They refuse to disclose how physically demanding this trip is, misrepresent the dangers, and fail to execute the proper best practices to ensure safety on the rapids. The Zambezi River is already an intense and dangerous place to raft, and the company’s carelessness makes it even worse. If you’re considering rafting in Victoria Falls, do your research. The river is infested with crocodiles, and there have been known incidents of attacks. The physical demands of the hike and rafting are far beyond what they claim. Shearwater should not be allowed to operate. Do not book with them. This was by far the most terrifying and mismanaged experience of my life, and I would never recommend them to anyone—especially families or those without serious rafting experience. Absolutely disgraceful.
Having previously rafted from the Zambian side, albeit a long time ago, I was keen to give it a go from the Zim side too. The organisation was excellent. Good briefing at the Lookout Cafe, before being taken into the park to the launch point. Be aware that the route to the launch site is steep and requires the use of ladders. In my view, this adds to the experience. The rafting was just as I remembered, except that we each had a paddle, and we were accompanied by three amazing kayakers who were there to ensure our safety. We were given clear instructions on how we would progress through the rapids, and what to do in the event of a capsize, and then went through rapid #1 at the bottom of Vic Falls. There were three rafts, two from Wild Horizons, and one from Shearwater, but they worked together as one, to make sure that everyone was safe, and we travelled down the river together. You will get wet. You will probably end up in the river at some point. It can be a bit scary at times, but be assured that the team know what they are doing. But most of all, it’s great fun, and you will have the best time. The climb out of the gorge at the end is tough. It will take you about 20 mins non-stop, on very steep rocky trails and home made wooden ladders. It’s worth it though, as at the end you’ll get food and a cold beer. Thank you to the team for one of the best days in my life.
Had the best time rafting!! James was so funny and kept us well informed so we knew what to do and when. Highly recommend! The walk out of the gorge is very tough so appropriate footwear!! The guides are so lovely, they stay with the slowest in the group (me on this occasion) and are so kind. They don’t make you feel like you have to rush and they give you plenty of breaks and water. Thank you James for an amazing experience and one I will remember forever!
Shearwater rafting by far the best company out there on the river! Had a amazing time with them, highly recommend this activity
Spent several days in Vic Falls doing trips with Wild Horizons (Flying Fox, Falls Tour, and Zambezi rafting). Cannot say enough good things about this world-class company. Everywhere we encountered the staff – checking in, doing the activities, guides that accompanied us) the service was helpful, friendly, informative, and highly professional. Having been a guide myself, I recognized the highly detailed procedures used to ensure everyone was utmost safe and cared for, and the equipment is all in excellent condition and carefully maintained. In particular, the day trip on the Zambezi was incredible. The Trip Lead, Sugar, and his crew of highly skilled boatmen (rafts and kayaks) are the utmost professionals. Everyone involved made sure all guests felt safe and happy while also having a blast on some of the best whitewater in the world. The team are trained paramedics in many cases and take safety extremely seriously, not something I have always observed when rafting around the world. I only wish I could come right back and do a multi-day trip, but maybe next year!
Whitewater rafting the Zambezi River is amazing!!! Getting there is a huge trip down the side of a mountain. Very small walkways, very steep slopes, and I broke 2 toes with a slip & fall. After rafting you have to hike back up. It is extremely difficult for the average person, I'm over 50. It took over 2-3 hours to hike very slim trails, very steep incline. The handmade ladders to climb are rickety at best. I would not do it again. Once in a lifetime experience but no way again. Be advised, difficult.
Dad and two teen daughters, what an amazing ride! Guides were knowledgeable and we felt very safe with them. They also had great senses of humor. Our guide, Bruce, took a little extra care of one of our daughters, who was a bit more nervous. The hike down and back up from the gorge, was tough but manageable, and the food when we got to the top was delicious! The ride itself was exhilarating! definitely a must do, to check off the bucket list!
We loved our day on the Zambezi River! The BBQ lunch afterward was simply delicious. Be aware that the hikes down and up were challenging.....start training on a stair climber now! Our only criticism was of the long and very bumpy drive back to our hotel. We were driving for more than an hour which felt even longer after our hiking and white water rafting. Suggestion: Your shoes will get very wet and muddy. Consider bringing an older pair that you can wear and then leave with the locals who help carry the boats and equipment.
We had an amazing time white water rafting the mighty Zambezi with Wild Horizons. Our guide was Colgate, who was clearly very experienced, friendly and inspiring for the more nervous members of our group. His constant checks of 'are we together?' was reassuring and became a mantra of our whole holiday. We had a clear briefing before we started rafting. The views through the gorge are amazing and we saw some crocodiles and monkeys from the raft. The rapids we got to do were massive and so much fun! The only thing to be aware of is that you do have to get down into the gorge and out at the end, which is a steep and hot walk requiring reasonable fitness. However we were greeted at the top with cold beers and delicious lunch! I would really recommend this activity with wild horizons, and we'd love to come back and do the whole stretch of rapids in the future!
Everything about my experience was spectacular. And I just have to especially thank all the guides on the tour especially my lead guide and PJ. Extremely patient and kind… they levelled up my already fantastic experience. Thank you so much. 100 percent id recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reliable company in the area.
Great experience. As water high unable to do the first 10 rapids or so. Be prepared to walk down from the plain the the river and back out again at the end of the rafting experience. Happy guides and good equipment. Water warm so no wetsuits needed. Very good day!
Exhausting you have to be very fit to participate in the climb to and from river. loved the experience
We conquered The Mighty Zambezi with our Fab Captain James he did a great job keeping us right when to padel and when to rest. Overall Amazing trip
I have rafted the river many times before. I had come with my wife in April 2017 but the river was high and closed. We were really looking forward to coming back and did so last week. Unforts the river was high again but instead of informing us (we had booked weeks in advance) the trip was modified (the first 10 rapids were avoided) and it was slightly extended. No one informed us before and the price remained the same. So basically it was rafting with two big rapids and the rest was well...yawn. Not what we expected or what we paid for. I know you can't control the river but if you are going to seriously cut back on an experience you should inform people and not try and hide the fact that it is not what you originally thought it was going to be. I feel ripped off.
We had so much fun! The guides were amazing. The experience was definitely an adventure and safety was a priority along with having fun!
Amazing amazing amazing tour, our guide Colgate was nothing short of spectacular- he was funny, patient and thought us how to really attack each rapid. He even gave us many times to jump into the river to swim because it was so hot at times. But beware as the hike back up to the lunch station was very exhausting and I questioned if i would even make it but i guess i did lol. Food was average good, tried crocodile for the first time and was great. Everyone was also very nice and made some nice friends there
Fantastic trip! I’m an experienced kayaker and wanted my wife to come and experience the river with me. I was in a kayak, she was rafting. Both my guide, Lowani, and the raft guides were excellent. Super safe and fun. Can’t recommend this operator enough. Hopefully more kayakers come and stay on the Zim side also in future years to come!
This was by far the best rafting tour we've been on. There were over 19 rapids, with maybe 1/3 of them being a class 4. It was so much fun! You do have to hike down to the river and then hike back up in the heat of the day. It is a very steep climb up with mostly loose rock/dirt. They do provide water during the raft, but no snacks, and lunch is after the climb up around 3pm, so make sure to eat a good breakfast! Great experience overall and highly recommend!
Did white water rafting (19 Rapid) and Devils pool. Highly recommend both of these and this tour company. On time, attentive, friendly and 100% worth while. Went as a solo traveler and these two trips made my stay in Zimbabwe and Zambia (devils pool) extremely worth while. Travel note if you do do devils pool with this company you must get a multi entry visa to avoid having to pay again coming back from devils pool at customs/border. I thought i was going to stay in zim the whole time but dont make this mistake and yes Devils pool is a must do!
This was a heart pumping once in a lifetime experience. Not for the meek or people who aren’t into adventure. 19 rapids many at level 5. Guides were amazing, knowledgeable, and very, very skilled. Many of us were thrown into the water but retrieved in an expert fashion. Several boats went over but due to the safety orientation everyone knew what to do. The only downside of this was the 250 metre very steep hike into and out of the gorge that had people of all ages exhausted. You must be very fit for this hike up and down. Nice wrap up at the top with beverages and food.
I went whitewater rafting with Wild Horizons on the Zambezi River out of Victoria falls in August. I was a little nervous however the professional and experienced team quickly put you at ease. I was picked up at my hotel by Bruce and then met the rest of the team at the Lookout Cafe where they gave you a safety briefing and a cuppa before heading to the river. We started at rapid 11 due to the high water. A long, steep walk down to the river where we boarded the rafts and practiced the key skills for the adventure ahead. The river is magnificent. we did about 10 rapids ranging from grade 2/3 to 5. It was so much fun. Exhilaration followed by sections of calm river where you could take in the amazing scenery with Zimbabwe on one side and Zambia on the other. Sugar, our rafting guide was fun and kept us safe. We fell out once but were quickly gathered back into the raft to enjoy the rest of the trip. It was a steep walk out however the guides are there to help you clamber over rocks and lend a hand should you need it. A nice hot lunch was provided after before being dropped off at your hotel. I am so glad i chose to do this. It made my trip to Victoria Falls and Africa. Wild Horizons were a great company to take you on this adventure. If you are thinking of doing it. DO IT! you won't regret it.
My 16 year old son and I had a wonderful time. The climb down to, and up from, the rapids was physically demanding but well worth the effort. Nonstop action. The staff was fun and attentive.
Easily one of the craziest experiences of my life. Certainly not for everyone since many rapids of the tour are class 4-5 (out of six) and the water is extremely powerful. Nevetherless, the staff was top notch and knew every inch of the Zambezi river. Stewart and his team were extremely professional and ensured that all of us had a great time from start to finish. So if you are keen on some adrenaline and don’t mind being tossed around by the rapids and to swallow some Zambezi water, I can only recommend you give this a try!
We had an exhilarating ride on the Zambezi under the expert guidance of Sugar - definitely more of a "rush" than "free" experience. He did a brilliant job of explaining what we needed to do and when. The highlight was definitely when Sugar had is wave to the videographer only for a surprise wave to flip the boat and all of us took a dip. I went with my 3 university aged kids - none of whom had been rafting before. The rafting requires a modicum of strength - but a fair degree of coordination otherwise paddling is at 6s & 7s. The walk in and out is another matter - going down requires a real head for heights while the hike out takes 15 minutes or so of strenuous activity, esp in the heat of the day and after hours on the river. We went on the same day as the California family who posted a 3* review and I mention this because it was obvious from the start they were going to be in difficulty: they turned up an hour late (missing the briefings on safety and the hike in/out) with the other 25 or so having to wait for them and the man of the party joked he was out of breath just climbing into the vehicle. That delay was compounded by the walk round: 3 disembarked from other boats and did it in 10-20 minutes the family took much longer with the other boats waiting in very hot sunshine while the other guides debated what to do - including walking back up or reorganising who was on which boat (everyone else did the full day so could get back with friends from 11-19). In the end they emerged. They didn't spoil our day but they certainly delayed all the other rafters with some having to cancel sundowner cruises because of the 2 hour delay. Overall this is great fun and well organised but participants should be mindful of their physical limitations - for their own safety and others enjoyment.
I must begin by saying this because had we known, we would have made a different decision…we booked this in the Wild Horizons office and this fact was never mentioned, which created an extremely difficult and potentially dangerous…. The trip begins with a long descent down into the gorge to the rafts. We did know this so we were somewhat prepared, but didn’t expect the sometimes slippery climb down which also included several metal stairways which had a few steps that were bent or in disrepair. One in our group fell during the descent and hit his head. Fortunately he was wearing his helmet already which provided protection. Unfortunately he dislocated his finger, but since he is a physician he was able to move it back into place. Sadly our guide was too far ahead to see, and didn’t inquire about the bleeding leg. There is a large group of rafters that go down the steps at the same time and at some points the slower people were passed which was scary on the very narrow paths. Since our raft was just our group, we would have been happy to have been asked to go behind the rest of them. We finally got down into the boat and our guide gave us a briefing. He explained the commands and paddling and how to “get down”, and we were off. The first 3 rapids were a lot of fun, but we had trouble hearing our guides commands. 4 people in our group had never rafted before and it was a little frustrating. He didn’t brief us as to what to expect and on the fourth rapid, we were all thrown from the raft when it got stuck on a rock. This was one of the most terrifying experiences of all of our lives. We were send flying out and into an extremely strong rapid that threw us against rocks and send us far down the river. Yes, this is an inherent risk in rafting, but we didn’t know what to expect should we fall of but for we should look for the kayakers. Again, I fully recognize that this is something that happens but none of us expected that ALL of us, including the guide might be thrown out in such a violent way. When I have rafted before one or two people might fall but I have never experienced something like this. This is where our first interaction with the OUTSTANDING river staff began. They got to us quickly with the kayaks and the other rafts guides that saw people in the water also pulled them in. Once we were all back in our raft we were pretty shaken but since there’s no other way but down the river, on we went. From the beginning we were told that rapid 7 was particularly difficult as the raft had to be guided between two large rocks. This information was provided to us in writing as was pretty clear about the risk, and we were offered the option of walking around the rapid and meeting our guide and raft on the other side. After our experience on number 4, there was no question as to what we were going to do, until we got to the “walk around point”. This was NOT a walk around. IT was a huge field of rocks that were sometimes slippery and required a great deal of physical fitness and agility to cross. And while locals may walk them barefoot, for people not used to the terrain, the “closed toe” sho requirement was completely inadequate. About half way though, the gentleman in our group who had fallen was in extreme pain and had to stop. I wish I had a photograph of what we had to climb through - as someone who grew up in Colorado and has been hiking in many places and even climbed in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu I have never seen this with the expectation that a typical person would be able to cross. One of the river staff finally helped him to the water and had a kayak bring him to the boat, but with the kayaks being very small they had him with his legs wrapped around leaning back in the water which caused him to swallow a great deal. Finally we got him back in the boat, and could tell he was very comfortable and not feeling well, but there was again no option. At this point I should mention another component of the activity that required a great deal of physical fitness. Our group was 3 teenagers, 2 women in their 50s and the gentleman who is 60. All of us are in decent shape, but the amount of energy and strength required to paddle in these conditions was well beyond what we could offer. Our guide seemed to be frustrated when we couldn’t paddle hard or fast enough, but we were all giving our best and were exhausted from the bouldering we had to do to get around the rapid. When he got back on, having the finger that was injured and then the pain from what had just happened, the guide handed him a paddle. We were thrilled to be almost done as we had chosen to just do a half day which meant we were done after rapid 10. We used every ounce of energy to row to shore…at this point one of the kayakers joined our boat and neither he nor our guide was rowing so we had more weight and 5 people doing the work (by then about three of us had enough energy to barely move our paddles…. We got our of the boat and the most harrowing and upsetting part of our day, which we had ZERO warning of, began. We were well aware that we had to go back up and out of the gorge, but what we were not told is that unlike the path down that had stairs and safety railings, this way out was extremely steep and included wooden ladders with rungs made of logs, server of which were loose and very dangerous for heavier people. We were told, in fact, that the path out was similar to the path down, but clearly this was in reference to the full day even though we were clear that we were only doing the half…. I consider myself to be very fit- I work out daily with cardio and weights, and hiking is not something I shy away from. However, this was difficult even for me and my level of fitness. For two of the people in our group, including my 17 year old daughter, this trail out was simply impossible to climb. Long, steep, slippery in places, rocky, and not at all what was expected from the climb down, we were ill prepared to handle this. My daughter and the gentleman with his injuries and pain simply could not do it. We had been rafting for 2.5 hours, hadn’t adequately prepared with the necessary hydration and calories required for such a physical day, and had never been warned when we booked that this was what to expect. Once again, the INCREDIBLE staff came to our rescue. Two men who had been carrying deflated rafts up the path saw the gentleman struggling less than halfway up. These awesome guys each took one side and taking 10 steps at a time, got him up the hill. At this point his feet - he was wearing closed toed sandals with minimal support because we were not told otherwise - were in extreme pain and his legs were practically numb. He had to focus to take each and every step. My daughter, on the other hand, was terrified (she is scared of heights but was able to do the walk down the gorge since it had handrails and stairs) and exhausted from the physical exertion. She was completely exhausted and passed out. This scared her even more and she was sobbing. Fortunately, one of the rescue kayakers saw us and helped to calm her down. Next thing I knew, the driver who was waiting for us at the top and knew something must be wrong because two of the teens had been at the top for over 30 minutes, came down with a bag of cold drinks. They told my daughter to sip a coke and stop drinking water because she had gone through a few bottles and they knew she needed some calories and that she shouldn’t have more water after the fainting..After taking drinks down to where the guys were helping a few feet down, the kayaker and the driver got her to stand up and helped her the rest of the way up. They talked to her the whole way and kept her motivated and focused. All I can say is that if it weren’t for the incredible staff, I do not know what we would have done. Had we been stuck on the trail for longer we would have likely needed stretchers to get the people out. We were, and remain, beyond grateful for the men who took care of us - we didn’t have much cash with us but gave it all to them and would have given more if we could. I wish I knew their names to recognize them here. That afternoon we were supposed to do the sundowner cruise on the river that we booked though Wild Horizons, but we were all exhausted, sunburnt and emotionally shaken from the experience. Despite the scary experience being throw from the raft, I would say that that majority of us really loved the rafting. We wished they had explained how difficult paddling these amazing rapids would be and taken into account that most of us were first timers. Had we not had the walk around, and especially the climb up, it would have been one of the scariest, but most exhilarating things I have ever done. And while I didn’t mind the physical aspects, I was beyond upset seeing my daughter and our friend struggle, and how upset and frightened everyone was for his safety. We were all in the Wild Horizons office when we booked and they saw our group. All they had to do was accurately convey the true nature of the physicality of the of the day and we would have been at least had the information to make the best decision, and for those of us who could handle it, we would have at least brought a snack for before the climb. By not telling us they put two people in physical jeopardy and created unbelievable stress for the rest of us. After reading the reviews here - which I generally do before booking but didn’t on this trip - they apparently fail to provide such a warning to anyone. I understand this is their business, and booking the tours is part of it, but this failure to provide full information is, in my opinion, an egregious error in judgement for a company that relies on tourism. I would likely have given 2 stars if it weren’t for the incredible staff we encountered throughout the day and the fact that they went above and beyond to help us.
This tour was crazy and so much fun! Our guide was super helpful and fun as we were beginners. Have never done anything like this. Amazing!
The guides were great they knew every rapid by heart and I felt very safe but it’s the world class Zambezi and your guaranteed to have a wild ride no matter what.
Without a doubt, the most professional rafting crews I have paddle with.. on the premier river in Africa (World?) Creto (Colgate) is virtually without peer as a raft guide: professional, technically excellent and screamingly funny. Calm under pressure, he and Gerick (safety kayaker) made sure we had the most incredible rafting trip down Africa's premier whitewater... For those interested, they will share the history of the rapids and key lines.. but otherwise plenty of discussions of the natural history and geology of the region. unforgettable.
Unbelievable experience. My wife and I did this trip, it required a decent level of fitness, nothing an average level of fitness can't handle. Our guide, Condry AKA Beast, was unbelievable. I can honestly say that I've never had a tour guide as talented as him. Beast knew the river exceptionally well, had an incredible knowledge of the indigenous wildlife and kept us entertained the entire way. There was not a single moment that we were not entertained. Would definitely reccomend this adventure to everyone.
Wild Horizons is the best tour operator in Zimbabwe. Our trip was booked and they provided all the services from transfers to and from the airport and all internal activities. James and Zondani were AMAZING. The whole operation is efficient and punctual. Zondani is very knowledgeable and his tour of the Vic falls was very informative. We also did a sunset cruise and white water rafting with them. Another James and Actor were the rafting guides. It was the best experience ever! Highly recommended 😁🥳!
Favorite part of our adventure? Condry, the Beast, our guide! We had the time of our life! His skill, expertise and knowledge of the Zambezi River was second to none! Looking at some of these rapids in the face made me question my sanity, but conquering them was extraordinary. The views of the gorge and this incredible river was also magical and breathtaking. We had so much fun!! Special shout out to the incredible team that made this happen: Eliam (2nd guide), Gerrick (safety kayak), Gerald (driver), Fanuel (on behalf of all porters), and Everson (Chef).
We had the time of our lives!! Our tour guide (Simon) was very knowledgeable and made us feel very safe out on the rapids. This was one of the most exciting things we did in Africa!! A must do!!
The 13 of February,we had a fantastic guide by the name of Conrry (Jack-Sparrow), he did a great job of proper briefing before we took off,and he was amazing during the rafting tour.he is a perfect Match for the job,we all felt safe the entire tour.
As a family of four visiting Victoria Falls in January 2020, we were a little unsure about what we wanted to do for the day - after taking in the Falls in all it's glory and spending a lot of cash jumping on a mandatory helicopter ride to see them from the air. However, when we went to visit the Wild Horizons team next to their look-out restaraunt, we were able to have a very long and detailed conversation with Skinner and his team about the river and what we would get out of jumping on a raft with them. Having rafted before I was in, but my daughters needed convincing. Fortunately, we booked and the day was everything we could have wished for - a sustained exhilirating experience, unparalled views of the Zambezi River (inside and out) and laughter all the way down the river guided by very experienced people. This experience is not for the faint-hearted (going down the gorge can be terrifying) nor the unfit (the climb back-out again is brutal!), but worth the time, effort and money for a unique experience. Definitely splash out on the video package they make for you and don't forget your sunscreen. A big shout-out to Skinner, Simon and the rest of the team for taking care of us so well and making sure we are still talking about our day on the river (and up the hill) weeks later....
