I am so grateful we chose to go on this small group tour. We go to see and experience the majestic Dynjandi waterfall by hiking up to the top and feeling the mist/spray coming off the falls. It was so beautiful and not too crowded. We also got to stop at several other places along the way that broke up the car ride and even experienced part of the longest tunnel in the world. So cool! No water or snacks are provided, but there is a stop where you can purchase some if you'd like. The first restroom is at the waterfall, so make sure you use the facilities before you board the bus!

Itinerary
Framed by steep mountains and wrapped around a quiet harbor, Ísafjörður is the cultural and economic hub of the Westfjords — and your starting point for today’s journey. Though small in size, this historic fishing town carries a big personality. Colorful 19th-century houses still line the old streets, and the harbor bustles with life, from working boats to adventurous kayakers. As we pass through town, you’ll get a glimpse of daily life here in Iceland’s most remote region — where modern life blends effortlessly with old traditions. If time allows, we may swing past landmarks like the old hospital-turned-cultural-center or the Maritime Museum housed in one of the oldest buildings in Iceland. Ísafjörður is more than just a gateway to nature — it’s a living community with deep roots in fishing, folklore, and resilience. From here, we’ll head into the fjords for a taste of Iceland’s wild, untouched beauty.
Rising like a shimmering bridal veil from the cliffs of Arnarfjörður, Dynjandi is not just a waterfall — it’s a full-body experience. The name means “thundering,” and you’ll understand why as soon as you step out of the vehicle and hear its roar echo through the canyon. At 100 meters tall, with a wide, tiered cascade that narrows elegantly as it climbs, Dynjandi is often called the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland — and for good reason. A short path leads from the parking area up toward the base of the falls, passing several smaller waterfalls along the way. Guests are welcome to hike as far as they like, or simply admire the view from below, where the mist dances in the sunlight and seabirds wheel overhead. Surrounded by dramatic fjord scenery, this is one of those places that stops time. Whether you’re snapping photos, soaking in the power of nature, or just breathing the clean mountain air, Dynjandi leaves a lasting impression long after the tour ends.
Tucked along the calm shoreline of Önundarfjörður, Holtsbryggja is a small pier and scenic viewpoint nestled in the village of Holt. This peaceful stop gives you a perfect snapshot of rural life in the Westfjords—where mountains meet sea in serene isolation. From the pier, you’ll enjoy a sweeping panorama over the fjord and surrounding peaks, often mirrored perfectly in the still waters below. If you’re lucky, you might spot seabirds gliding above or see locals launching small fishing boats, continuing traditions that go back generations. On calm days, the silence here is broken only by the lapping waves and the occasional call of an Arctic tern. It’s an ideal place to stretch your legs, breathe in the salt air, and take a quiet moment before continuing to Dynjandi. Whether you’re looking to snap a photo, admire the remote charm of the region, or simply soak in the atmosphere, Holtsbryggja offers a pause that feels like a world away.
Visit Flateyri, a charming fishing village surrounded by dramatic mountains and beautiful fjord views. Enjoy time to explore the village, learn a little about local life in the Westfjords, and stop at a local café if time allows.

This tour was terrific! Educational, entertaining, and breathtaking. And may I add, delicious. Flo, originally from France but having traveled the world, was a tour guide who knew a lot about the history, culture, and environment. We stopped for lunch at a small seaport in Flateyri. Enjoy the meat bagel at Bryggjukaffi; don't miss the carrot cake. I highly recommend Valkyrie Tours. Ask for Flo; he is the best.
Our guide, Flo, was great!!! He was very informative about all the stops we made. Welcomed any question and had good advice for enjoying the experience.
This trip was a great way to see the fjords and learn much about the folks who live in the area. Our guide Dorotea was a delight from beginning to end. We felt lucky to have her.
Flo was an excellent guide and was very enthusiastic about Iceland. We learned about seals, currents, avalanches as well as the waterfall
The waterfalls and small hikes were great. It is a bit weather dependent. The guide was excellent taking time to explain and show various highlights like where the seals were hanging out..
Great half day tour. Very scenic. Nice van. Very basic but just what we wanted. ………………………………………………..
Great tour and hit the highlights! The right length for a tour too. Flo was fantastic. Having a local small snack set up in advance upon arrival in small town would be great since there is no food.
Great tour. Guide was a local and gave great insight to the culture in Iceland . Small group tour was great.
The experience was wonderful. The van was well appointed and Flo was an informative and funny guide. We toured the falls, stopped to see wildlife like sea lions, toured a town a d more. Highly recommend this company and this tour.
New company and a little bus which felt a little cramped especially at thw back but my husband was allowed to sit up front to make room for the other 3 on the back row. The guide was a lovely young woman, Flavia, and we had a nice day. The waterfall was overcrowded and the queue for the toilet ridiculous and took up valuable time. We only just got up to the base of the fall and had to come straight back down because time was up...the path up was too narrow in places to cope with the amount of people walking it
this was a fantastic day seeing some incredible sites in Isafjordur. Tour guide Jake was entertaining and educational. Dynjandi falls was just incredible. We were able to see stunning views of the Fjords, a couple seals were spotted, visited a quaint fishing village and more. 100% recommend
Amazing is all I can say. Maggie our guide was the absolute best. She was very informative and gave the history of the area. She was funny and made the experience extra special. I highly recommend this tour.
We had an excellent small tour. The Dynjandi waterfall was worth the drive and the hike. We climbed to the top and were able to see a full rainbow when looking back at the fjord. We stopped at a quaint town with the oldest original store in Iceland and stopped at a few picturesque spots. We were able to stop and take pictures of seals.
Great tour and tour guide. I can't believe we actually saw a pair of seals.
Our guide was very informative and passionate about the countryside that we saw. The plan for the day was clear and we managed to see all that was promised.
Very nice tour, visited all the sites as advertised, Jake our tour guide Very knowledgeable and friendly
We had an amazing time on this tour. Once in a lifetime chance to see another part of the world. So glad we did this. A great tour group. Thank you.
Flo was our guide and he was brilliant… so many stories and information about Iceland, he went out of his way to make our trip perfect and memorable. The tour is fabulous, we had a great time. Stunning scenery and amazing photos. From a huge waterfall to a white sandy empty beach, and so much in between. Thank you soooo much Flo! (The carrot cake recommendation was spot on too!)
Very informative guide (Dorota)! Lots of beautiful scenery and good stops for photos. Very well paced tour. Never felt rushed.
This is. A great way to see the Dynjandi waterfall.. Flo our driver was so knowledgeable about about the history of the region and what life is like for people living here.Arriving at waterfall before the large buses gave us clearer paths to climb and take pictures which I appreciated. Our refreshment in Flateyri was cool to learn of their recovery from the disastrous slides in the area and how the towns work to protect themselves. Flo also took us to little cafe that served the best carrot cake I have ever tasted. Saw so much . Great driver. Memorable trip. Great tour company.
Guide was terrific. The waterfall was beautiful and we had such fun climbing to the top! Hot Chocolate and carrot cake at a small restaurant that we stopped at was amazing.
Stunning waterfall and our fav among the 3 we saw. Very informative guide, she is sassy.
Michael and the driver were wonderful and caring and helpfjl
We enjoyed a gorgeous day exploring the scenic Westfjords with Jake from Valkyrie Tours. Booking this excursion online prior to our cruise was easy and communication regarding pick up at the cruise port in Isafjordur was excellent. Jake provided an interesting and informative commentary of the sites we visited, which included the Holtsbryggja pier with its white sand beaches, the beautiful Dynjandi waterfall, and a lunch stop in the small fishing village of Flateyri where we enjoyed freshly made bagel sandwiches from Bryggjukaffi, and a browse through Iceland's oldest bookstore! We did experience some unfortunate mechanical issues with our mini bus after our first stop, but Jake was able to quickly arrange for our group to join another bus passing by who was also doing the same tour! A big thank you to both Jake and Magic Iceland Travel for saving the day!
The guide was very good lots of photo stops. The bus was small had small windows so hard to get an awesome view.
Our tour guide was an excellent driver, a fact we found to be necessary when traversing the roads outside of the main Iceland cities. The views were quite stunning. Our tour guide also took the time to point out sights that were not on the official itinerary such as seals.
The waterfall was beautiful and lunch was good
Pleasant drive. Photo stops give a nice perspective on fjord beaches and local areas Waterfall magnificent but quite a climb, If you want together a better view of the upper falls.
The waterfall is wonderful and worth the stairs to the top. Bring your own water as there are no facilities at the waterfall. Local guide with great stories added interest to the drive as well.
We had a delightful tour with Maggie. Knowledgeable and friendly, we learned a lot about the region with local history, legends, and amusing anecdotes. It was so nice traveling with a small group rather than on a large tour bus. It would be great if there were public toilets available at both tour destinations, which of course is not the fault of the tour operator. I would definitely use this tour company again
This was a great tour. Our guide was very informative. The waterfall was spectacular. We saw a lot and learned a lot on this tour.
We had very bad weather but it is a great small group tour. Our driver/guide was very informative and friendly. I would recommend not sitting in the back of the bus because the noise of the engine/road drowns out the microphone. The guide did the best she could but I could only hear snippets
Visited early August. This was a great tour. Saw Dynjandi and Hotlsbryggja, plus stopped for 30 minutes in a small town (Flateyri) with Iceland's oldest bookstore. You can walk up to the base of the falls. It's uneven footing so be careful! There are another 2-3 smaller falls coming down the mountainside below the larger falls. Our guide, I'm sorry, I didn't get your name, did a great job telling us all about the area. Highly recommend.
The check in process was terrible. The guy doing it was incredibly rude. He also said to everyone, “Let’s f**king go! Isn’t that what you Americans say?” No, it is not what we Americans say. It’s rude and inappropriate. We got there at 9:10am for a 9:15 meeting time (and a 9:30 departure) and all the seats were taken except for two in the back of the second van. The problem is that the two couples we were traveling with (and booked this tour with) were in the first van and were not permitted to save us seats. If the meeting time is 9:15am, then that’s when everyone should meet and begin loading the vans for the 9:30am departure. “But it’s okay,” we were told, “We’re all going to the same places.” Well, we all went to the same places, but we saw our friends for about a minute at the first stop as they were leaving and for another minute as we were arriving at the second (again, as they were leaving), and not at all at the third. Our tour guide (a lady) was wonderful and very nice, but we literally couldn’t hear a word she was saying for the entire trip, even though she was using a microphone. In fact, none of the six people sitting in the back section of the van couldn’t hear anything. All that being said, the sights we saw were very nice. It would have been a wonderful tour had we been able to experience it with our friends (and not had the other things happen that I mentioned above, of course).
It was a lot of fun. Our guide was informative. He came from this area allowing him toexplain everything in a relatable manner.
Made 3 stops at a beach, a small fishing village, and of course, the waterfalls. Had plenty of time at each place. The guide was very informative. Had option of being dropped off in town or back at the port. Was a very enjoyable excursion. Highly recommend.
Great tour lots of information about the region. Would recommend. The weather was a challenge but can't blame them for that.
The guide/driver was very nice and had good information and stories about Iceland and the sights. Dynjandi was gorgeous and we had a little over an hour there. We had a few other stops for photo ops. The bus was comfortable, we had 15 people on the tour. I would highly recommend this tour.
The drive to the main waterfall was beautiful. The tunnels are long and have interesting rules. Our live guide was not as talkative as others and did a good job. Plan for food before or after. The small restaurant was crowded and the other restaurant in town wasn’t open. Overall good day.
The dynjandi falls were beautiful but the white sand beach was not worth the stop. The little town of Flateryi was nice and it would have been nice to have more than 15 min there. The driver drove very fast and was an aggressive driver which made the drive very bumpy and stressful instead of relaxing. He also told stories that were gruesome and he cursed- and there were children in our group.
Was a very nice experience. There were 3 photo stops in addition to the waterfall. There was sufficient time at the waterfall if you are fit and ambitious, the trail with quite steep and rocky. My knees aren’t great so I only went part way up. Also note that if you go on a sunny day near noon, the sun will be right above the waterfall making pictures very difficult. Sun isn’t usually the issue in Iceland, but we had a lovely day, go figure. Guide was good, gave us little tidbits about the area.
So we were supposed to go on this excursion but our cruise ship was not able to tender. The company refunded our money before I even contacted them. Would totally book again with them.
Our port was canceled at Isafjordur, so I was unable to take the tour. I wanted to leave a review either way as this company was so easy to deal with, and they refunded my tour (and many others on board) due to the port cancellation. I highly recommend booking Valkyrie if you are on a cruise ship. Their customer service is exceptional, and they even empathized with us having our plans disrupted.
Pale, our guide, was excellent. Provide professional, friendly, and prompt service. Gave us many interesting historical facts about the area. Enjoyed the your.
We arrived at the falls to find 10 motorcoaches, multiple small busses and cars, so nearly 500 people at the falls. The path leading to the top was so congested it was not safe to climb in my opinion. The image and description mentioned seals, but there were none on this tour. All in all, a long drive for a mediocre experience. Our guide was excellent, I would take tours with this company again.
Great waterfalls, etc. The weather was wonderful--we really lucked out on that. Our guide gave us great information on the sites we were visiting, and was friendly and helpful.
It’s basically a trip to a beautiful waterfall but you have to be in good shape to climb up as the pathway is very rocky. Unfortunately we didn’t see any other wildlife and not as many photographic stops as I expected but overall it was a fine trip
Best tour of our 2 week cruise! Guide was terrific--knowledgeable, informative, well organized and on schedule. Highlights of tour were the spectacular Dynjandi waterfalls and a short stop at the small secluded village of Flateyri where we had the best most flavorful fish soup of the trip!! Well done Valkyrie.
The Dyandi waterfalls well worth the trip As they were spectacular but the other sites (photo stops) really not worth the time. A trip to the waterfalls and more time there would have been even more valuable. Tour guide a little difficult to u destined at times
