6 Wine Tasting In Valpolicella Classica: The Cradle Of Amarone

My husband and I were really looking forward to this tour. Received confirmation the day before, travelled by bus and taxi to winery and to our surprise nobody was there conducting a tour. In fact it took us about 20 minutes to hunt someone down at the winery. Apparently, they lost power in the morning but why we weren't notified was never explained. The 3 people we finally found at the winery were extremely gracious and helpful in getting us transport back to Verona. We had a slight language communication problem which we all worked hard to figure out. While waiting for our return taxi they poured us 2 glasses of wine and gifted us a bottle of one of their wines. Tripadvisor is refunding the cost of the tour, but we are hoping for an additional reimbursement for our travel expenses. I do not hold the winery responsible for this. The winery - Franchini - went out of their way to help us find our way back to Verona.

Lovely experience! The wine was outstanding. The tasting was on a beautiful property with the kindest hosts. They even recommended a local restaurant and ordered us a taxi. We had a case sent home. And it was truly a highlight of our trip.

This was an unforgettable experience led by Marta, who explained how the Valpoicella, Amarone and a unique blend are produced at Franchini vineyards. We would highly recommend this tour. Marta was kind, interesting and thorough in her explanations.

We had an exceptional wine tasting experience. Despite our tight travel schedule, we booked the 11:30 AM slot, and it turned out to be perfect. We were fortunate to enjoy a personalized, one-on-one session, where the hosts were incredibly welcoming and patiently answered all of my beginner questions about wine tasting. And finally we got some amazing wines to take with us back home! I highly recommend driving to the location rather than walking, especially on a sunny day. The setting is stunning and absolutely worth the visit!

Our guide, Marta, was excellent. We arrived far earlier than booked but she went ahead and took us on the tour, without any problem. She was very knowledgeable and always ensured we understood.

This wine tour was the start of our Italy trip and was our favorite. So much history in this vineyard followed by amazing, rich wine. the Amarone was superb. This is a place I would want to bring my family and friends in the future.

I really enjoyed this wine tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and had great energy. The wines we tasted were very very good and all different in taste and process. We bought one cheese and meat platter for 2 people and it was more than enough. We bought some wines and home made cherry jam at the end and the lady even called a taxi for us. I’d definitely come back!

FRANCHINI was absolutely perfect. Fantastic amarone and a true winery. We were looking for the “story” behind the heart of the wine and they certainly delivered. One of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Italy. We will be purchasing our wine from Franchini for years to come. Thank you!

We were very excited to do this trip after reading everyone’s reviews and we researched it a great deal. We got a taxi to the beautiful spot in the mountains where the views were spectacular. We had a warm welcome from a lady initially. But sadly she was not the one doing our tour. It was just the two of us, the tour lasted half an hour. We found the guide abrasive and she struggled a bit with her English. It felt very much like she didn’t want to be there. We also booked the cheese and ham platters which arrived after the second glass of wine. Having done other wine tasting we found it odd to be using just one glass to taste 6 different wines. She didn’t show us anything to buy. We felt rushed to finish as she took the liberty to order a taxi for us before we had even finished our last tasting of wine. There was no option to stay for another glass, buy anything or browse. Considering we spent over €100 on the experience, plus over €85 on taxis from Verona and back, we feel very disappointed with this experience which we didn’t feel was value for money or particularly enjoyable.

Great tour. Good late afternoon start time. Small Vinyard in hills with great view. The amarone for the tasting was nicely aged rather than just a new bottle.

This was an incredible experience. We were made to feel very welcome and the tour was amazing. It was a lovely, hot day over the hills and the house is so beautiful 😍. Loved seeing the ice house and the cellar. Well worth a visit and would definitely do it again.

Length of the tour was perfect. Sometimes we get too much info to digest, this time was just enough. The vineyard is gorgeous. The wine is phenomenal. The tastings and accompanying charcuterie were wonderful. We are from the US and we will be ordering some of this wine.

Just perfect. We booked the wine tasting and tour to celebrate our engagement and it was a fantastic experience. Our guide was so welcoming. We stayed afterwards for a glass of wine on the terrace and enjoyed the stunning scenery! 100% a must do if in the area! (Here’s hoping they do weddings…)

A fantastic afternoon spent in the beautiful Valpolicella region, with a friendly and knowledgeable guide: a member of the Franchini family. The wines were excellent and so much information was given about the history and culture of this classic vineyard. Highly recommended and the best wine-tasting I have experienced.

We booked this tour in Australia and expecting there would be a pick up option from Verona but no ! A taxi was the only option and it would have cost more than the tasting very poor to not highlight this as not everyone is driving we didn’t go so wasted our money we will be contacting Viator re a refund

To start to view is absolutely incredible. It's a short tour but you learn a lot and they really know what they are doing. It is gorgeous and breathtaking just being there! I don't like wine and I went for my sister and I adored it! It was delicious - we had 6 wines, they provided a basket of many bread sticks and we purchased for 5 extra euros on spot the charcuterie board. It was delicious. I would hand down recommend this. They were busy the day we were there so it did take time so make sure you are not in a rush.

Beautiful vineyard & winery. Our host (Katerina) is an expert at what she does. We learned a lot about the vineyard and wine making. Sampled quite a few wines that were very good! Would definitely recommend going to visit.

We really enjoyed this wine tasting at Franchini vineyards…wines were amazing and tour of the winery and tasting was historic and instructional. Only down side is that you are responsible to get to the vineyard. Round trip taxi from Verona Piazza Bra ran us about 75 Euros total. So just plan accordingly…this one may be better to do if you have your own transportation.

Great experience. Nice place and great and friendly welcome by the owners. The guided tour is just perfect: guide is very knowledgeable and friendly. You’ll discover the vineyard, the old house and cellars and end with the tasting. Every wine is very well explained and you’ll be prepared for what’s coming ahead! Don’t hesitate to combine the tasting with cheese&ham platter! ;)

Beautiful historic building and winery. Great explanation of the wine making process by Katerina, and the tasting was excellent. Visited with my wife and young adult daughter. We all truly enjoyed our experience.

Wonderful experience, amazing wine - we spent two hours talking about the history of the property, of the wineyards, about the winemaking process. It felt really different to be in a small , family owned winery in the midst of Valpolicella Classico region- as compared to huge, factory-like establishments. Giulio was an amazing guide (able to explain anything about Valpolicella and Amarone in three languages), so we learned a lot - and of course, enjoyed the wine tasting. This tour was one of the highlights of our two-weeks trip to northern Italy
