Venice: Commissario Brunetti Walking Tour For Donna Leon Fans

Valerio has bien a greate guide ,paying attention to what we like and adapting accordingly with ,as a result, 2 hours of pleasant walk in a different Venice .

It was exceptional. Guide was a lovely well informed local Venetian. Even my husband who has read only a few of Ms Leon's Brunetti novels enjoyed Victorio's informative tour.

Our tour with Valerio was great! I appreciated the depth that he added, explaining not only where certain sights were (“this is the Carabinieri building”) but then going on to discuss the three levels of policing in Venice and why there are three. I’ve read all the Brunetti books and now look forward to rereading some having seen the spaces that inspired some of them. Grazie, Valerio, for a wonderful morning.

Valerio was an excellent tour guide for my first afternoon in Venice in March. I was delighted to find that he offered a tour based on the sights and experiences in the Donna Leon novels, which I love. This tour exceeded all my expectations. I’ve been to Venice other times and taken other tours, and Valerio’s was the best. He took me to quiet hidden corners and calles and brought the Donna Leon characters, scenes and plot twists to vivid life as we stopped at locations featured in the books. It was really fun and different! The tour went way beyond the books, providing plenty of interesting information about Venetian life and history in general. We visited a really beautiful church, Santa Maria dei Miracoli, as well as a long-established wine bar that was favored by Commissario Brunetti in the novels. We ended our tour at San Marco, with Valerio giving me great recommendations for good restaurants elsewhere far away from the crowds. It was a great afternoon tour off the beaten path. I’d recommend Valerio for any tour in Venice.

Valerio gave us a brilliant tour of Venice with loads of interesting information about Brunetti and the city. Really enjoyed it Saw parts of the city we may not have made it to ourselves. Loved the coffee corretto stop!

Our tour guide, Valerio, provided us with an outstanding visit to several of the sites referenced in the books and provided interesting background and tidbits on the site and its relationship to Brunetti. He helped us to really “see” Venice from the perspective of Brunetti’s Venice. He was thoroughly entertaining and provided a wealth of tidbits on Venice itself. We’ve been to Venice several times and we really learned a lot of interesting facts. The sites we visited only encompassed a few of the books, but it was well worth it!

This was a great opportunity to walk the streets of Venice, away from most of the tourist spots and see where the locals walk, and eat and shop through the experience of local Venetian Valerio and Donna Leon's Police Commissioner Brunetti book sites. While walking we saw Brunetti's office, the State Police Station, his office view, the local patsticceria Rosa Salva where he stops for coffee, and the palatial home of his in-laws, now used for art shows and many more book sites. We learned about the history of many other Venice sites and the daily threat of the rising and falling water levels from the lagoon. A tour that should not be missed and one that can be done again and again as Valerio's endless knowledge of Venice is personal and current, so we will gladly book it on our next trip to Venice!

I spent last September on a two week art tour in Venice, and on this trip did a lot of art Biannale things, so my Donna Leon walking tour with Valerio showed me a different side of Venice. It’s been a while since I’ve read the books, and if you are a huge fan with places in them you’d like to see, mention those specifically. I just enjoyed various scenes from various books and Valerio’s enthusiasm.

Excellent and highly recommend this tour to any Commissario Brunetti fan. Valerio tailored the tour and it really was amazing to see the books and TV series come to life in the real world. Also, absolutely off the beaten path and away from crowded tourist sites. A must do. Highlights include the questura's, Rosa Salva and so many others.

As avid readers of the Donna Leon books set in Venice and having visited a few times before so main tourist drags under our belt this was a great way to explore some new areas of Venice we had not seen before and from a new angle. Our guide Valerio proved himself to be a great guide handling a majority German group with us as the sole Brits with no problem. We felt like we got an equal tour even if the tour is more skewed to those that have watched the german tv series. We came away feeling happy to have some new insight into the city including a locals take on restaurant recommendations and would happily recommend Valerio for any other guiding purpose In either language.

This tour is recommended for any Donna Leon fan. You visit iconic locations from her movies/TV shows and books, as well as charming, quiet areas of Venice away from the busy crowds. Valerio did a great job of giving the tour in English (for me), as well as in German for others in our group.

Lots of fun and information. Great walking tour. Try to watch the German television shows in addition to the books.

A wonderfully entertaining and exciting tour for Brunetti fans over numerous bridges and through narrow alleys. Valerio shows various filming locations with a lot of humor and knowledge about the Commissario and Donna Leon, and tells interesting stories about them.

The price for everything - travel, lecture, etc. - is not a highlight; no balcony; the service is not a real experience.

It was a great tour of Venice. Valerio took us on hidden paths to the locations of the Brunetti films. We were allowed to get to know a very different Venice. The pick up at the hotel was great, with the gondola then to Markus Square. We have been able to gain many insights and impressions. Interesting tour off the beaten track with details about the Brunetti film adaptation

A really great tour , away from the usual tourist streams. Valerio, our fantastic tour guide not only knows Donna Leon personally , no, he also has a lot of interesting and worth knowing about Venice beyond Brunetti's themes and locations ! Comprehensive presentation of Donna Leon film history. Lots of information about scene locations with background. Funny telling of the many details. Only Commissrio Brunetti did not show himself.

Great leadership. Interesting also the story how Valerio came to Donna Leone and Brunetti, because they are totally unknown in Venice. Unfortunately I was not fit enough for the distance of 4km. My husband finished it for us. Would have liked to have looked at the buildings, not just from the outside. Still very worthwhile.

Valerio Coppo took us intensively in the footsteps of Donna Leon’s Commissario Brunetti and described the “story behind” at various locations - always very interesting and sometimes with a twinkle in his eye...the two hours passed like in flight, especially since we were a small intimate round and could also exchange ideas bilaterally and trilaterally, Valerio also knew very well in the corresponding episodes which were recorded at the respective location. We would love to book this tour again and again.

We were in a small group with our guide Valerio "In the footsteps of Commissario Brunetti". Despite the great heat Valerio managed to show us many locations and also to tell us a lot about Venice in a very nice and entertaining way. We also know his favorite restaurants now (currently only from the outside, we still need to change 😉). Valerio's further tours we will certainly book at the upcoming Venice stays.

Valerio dived into the film shoots and their locations of Commissario Brunetti with us. Away from the crowds and always with many additional tips it was a highly recommended experience with Valerio.
