We will jump over centuries to understand how the lagoon have been shaped by the Republic of Venice to its own purposes and survival, creating herculean barriers from the sea, deviating rivers while keeping a delicate balance between human intervention and natural events.
Discover how the Venetian lagoon is connected with the Adriatic Sea through three port inlets, allowing the exchange of waters to enter and exit from the Adriatic Sea at the rhythm of the tides. This cyclical movement performs an indispensable function for the balance of its ecosystem: high tide becomes a problem for Venice only when it exceeds the level of 80 cm, the limit beyond we can speak of "Acqua Alta" ("High water")
Understand the complicated mix of phenomena causing Acqua Alta and why some are predictable and others much less. You will discover why rain has nothing do to with it and how lunar phases and astronomical tides, strong winds low pressure plays a much bigger role.
You will get explained how is possible that with 80 cm tides your feet keep dry and why a tide of 140cm is impacting the city so hardly.
Get back to the 60s, when a tragedy renamed the "aqua granda" occurred due to an exceptional wave of bad weather hitting all of Italy. Back those days Venice experienced one of the most tragic days in its history, with the tide reaching the highest peak ever recorded in the history. We will understand how this event impacted the development of the city and life of its inhabitants in the following decades.
Venice experienced a similar situation on the evening in 2019, making clear that natural events are more and more linked with global climate changes and over tourism exploiting the city. We will understand more about what happened visiting some places heavily impacted back on those days.
Venice experienced a dramatic situation also at the end of 2019, making clear that natural events are more and more linked with global climate changes and over tourism exploiting the city. We will understand more about what happened visiting some places heavily impacted back on those days.

We had a great time with Valerio! We took this tour on the first day of our visit and it was just perfect. A good balance between informations and fun facts. He is a true local Venitian and it makes the diffence, you can feel it like the way he shows you the streets. He gave us plenty of tips and recommendations for things to do and where to eat and drink. I will definitly recommend this tour if you wanna get the vibe of Venice!
Valerio, a local was very enthusiastic and showed us the non-touristic places as well. He was very knowledgable and fun.
Amazing experience. We had our own small family guide all day. We got lost in the streets of Venice with a local. We had our 10 and 12 year olds in tow. He made it exciting for everyone. I would highly recommend!!
Amazing guide. A true local who knows inside out. So friendly, very good english, lots of small anecdotes. Was with my 11yr old son and the level of details and tone was just perfect - not too much not too little. Also took the time to give recommendations for the rest of the trip So nice! 100% recommend Thanks Valerio!
Excellent experience with Valerio super Friendly and knowledgable. Great with kids 7 and 9 year old came Back to hotel with heaps of information they could share with one another on what they learnt.
Really good tour, learnt lots about the city and absolutely would advise anyone that hasn’t been to Venice before to book a private tour with Valerio.
Very nice moment spent on Dec 10th with Valerio. We enjoyed it very much. Valerio designed this tour for us, including authentic areas, interesting explanations, confidential churches and monuments, far away from the crowd. Exactly what we wanted to do. Many thanks for the list of restaurants, chocolate stores, café, gelato..
Valerio is an excellent, insightful and charming guide! We spent three hours with him exploring Venice like a local. He knows his way around the little alleys and offers us an experience like a local. He was outstanding with our 8-year-old son, involving him all the time and giving him a live long memory. If you want to visit the usual touristy places, a guide is not needed. Converter if you want to see everything else.and learn about the history and uniqueness of Venice in a casual walk, Valerio is your man! We will defiantly come back to spend more time with him!
The walking tour we did with Valerio was the absolute highlight of our time in Venice. He is the friendliest, most interesting guide and showed us more than we ever expected to see in just two hours, all the while really giving us the locals experience. This is the walking tour we will measure all future tours by!
Visited Venice for the first time with a friend for a much delayed birthday celebration. I arranged a private tour with Valerio on our first day to firstly see some sights off the beaten track which I love but also to get some recommendations for good restaurants etc. He was able to personalise a 2 hour tour for us and was flexible about changing this on the day when we threw other suggestions at him. He has a great deal of knowledge about the history of Venice but is fun and engaging. I think he would be good with kids too. All his recommendations for restaurants / cafes were great and not excessively touristy. I would definitely join him on another tour when I return to Venice.
Valerio is really great in what he's doing; it was a real pleasure being shown around by him. There wasn't a single question he couldn't answer (we tried hard!), and he mastered the almost impossible task of getting our 9 year old nephew interested in history! 😉 Oh, and his German is fantastic, so he's a great choice for any group with no/little knowledge of Italian or English. Highly recommended!
Amazing experience, a new way to enjoy Venice. Valerio has been lovely with us Absolutely recommended
Talking about a personalized experience! After just arriving in Venice, Valerio met me for a night walking tour of the city. Quiet streets and lots of stories made it such a joy to walk around with Valerio. Thanks also for the amazing bar stop where I had the best pulled pork roll ever! The best part for me was the personal connection, Valerio clearly speaks from his heart, which made it a very honest and open and enjoyable experience. Thanks!
Loved the warmth of our guide Valerio! He was informative and kept it interesting. Loved that we got to see the regular tourist areas but also the behind the scenes Venice! Totally enjoyable and worthwhile experience!
Valerio gave an interesting informative tour both through main tourist areas and off the beaten path. I was delighted in his presentation and would love to explore other areas of Venice with him.
Valerio is a good-hearted person. He knows his way around, not just Venice. We have received many tips also for our further holiday. Likewise, he has very specifically addressed our 10 year old daughter so that she does not get bored. All in all, a feel-good package with him.
I have been with Valerio Coppo for several hours, days in Venice, Murano and when I come back then he is again my favorite leader. Everything I wanted to see and know, I learned. Not only that, but all the tips he gave afterwards helped me. So if guided tours, only with VALERIO COPPO
Valerio exceeded all expectations with his kind and safety, experience and empathy to our group. So make the day of our silver wedding an unforgettable one. Thank you very much Janet und Thomas
Very well prepared, flexible in the choice and timing of the meeting (spontaneously brought forward during arrival), he managed to open “inaccessible exhibition spaces” for us with charm and tenacity. See you again in autumn...
Fantastic experience knowing Venice with Valerio. We had little time and thanks to the tour we did with it, we were able to enter the most authentic Venice away from crowds and understand a little of its history and essence. Great professional, it was a luxury to visit. Thanks for everything. We'll be back!
Valerio made the tour very interesting (asked questions, told the story of Venice, made jokes, showed us secret spots) it was very great! The 3 hours in the rain have passed really quickly, Valerio has booked a tour for me personally then with the Armenian island. Thanks for the effort! He managed everything great even though we were a school class of over 24 people👏🏻
Great, exciting tour. Cool insider tips from a real Venetian. The 3 hours through Venice have flown by despite pouring rain.
The goal was to get to know Venice from a different perspective, with a bit of history and knowledge. Valerio brought all of this to life for us. We were traveling as a family and were amazed at how many other sides of Venice there are. It was a lot of fun and it won't be the last tour with Valerio.
Everything was perfect, nice tour, great information, nice additional tips; thank you!! Route and guide perfect
My girlfriend and I contacted Valerio, through acquaintances who had already taken advantage of a tour and were enthusiastic, and he kindly made himself available to accompany us around Venice. His presence completely changed our experience in the city, at every corner a curiosity, a detail unknown to most people, making us feel in complete harmony with it, as if we were seasoned Venetians (for me it was the first time in Venice, for the my girlfriend didn't, but according to her she discovered many things she had no idea about). In short, Valerio allowed us to live a wonderful experience thanks to his competence and kindness that we will never forget.
The tour through Venice was perfect for us. We were shown Venice off the tourist streets. Simply TOP.
We had a Venice tour with Valerio - away from the tourist crowds. What can I say? It was just like that! Valerio is a friendly, nice and funny man! We learned a lot about Venice and its people! Absolutely recommended! We are already looking forward to the next tour next year! Grazie Mille Valerio!
It was wonderful today walking through the streets of Venice with Valerio Coppo. If you are looking for a top guide, be sure to contact him.
Before we found Venice beautiful now through Valerio Let's love it!!! He made our tour an unforgettable experience through his more than sympathetic nature. Valerio has fully responded to our wishes. Highly recommended and we are already looking forward to the next tour in 2024.
We spontaneously booked a guided tour with Valerio and were not disappointed. It was a guided tour away from the tourist streams that was also interesting and entertaining for our children. Valerio is very nice and does not let boredom arise. In addition, we got some great gastronomic tips at the end. Highly recommended!
Valerio taught us a lot about the history of Venice, architecture and art. It was mega interesting and entertaining. Time passed far too fast. All our questions during the tour and in advance Valerio answered us competently. Always back with Valerio! Thank you for the tour.
Valerio is a great guide to explore and get to know Venice off the beaten track. As a local he has a great background knowledge which he passes on with a lot of joy. It was unfortunately far too short and we would go back with him anytime. Highly recommended. Also the restaurant recommendation was great.
Great leadership, it has responded great to our interests. I'd love to go back any time. Thank you very much.
We had booked the guided tour “Off the beaten track”. Our guide Valerio showed us Venice from a completely different side. The two hours went by in a flash, it was totally awesome. Valerio told us a lot, it was super informative and entertaining. It was great to meet Valerio.
I booked a tour with Valerio at short notice. Valerio showed me sides of Venice that are off the beaten track. He made a highlight of my holiday with a lot of knowledge and wit. He is very personable, knowledgeable and very helpful. His tips for bars, restaurants and small shops are also top. Thank you and see you next time, I can only recommend Valerio
Great explanations and places away from mass tourism. Tips on bars and restaurants. Help with ticket purchase.
It was very interesting, entertaining and super relaxed. Great was that we were away from the tourists and that the story of Venice was brought to us very interesting
We did a guided tour at Valerio through Dorsoduro and San Polo. It couldn't have been better. Valerio is very spontaneous and can give great answers to all questions. We have learned a great deal beyond the tourist paths. Valerio calls this a sustainable city tour. Don’t walk and discuss St. Mark’s Square and Rialto Bridge for the 1000th time. But look at Venice from a different angle. We liked it very much and his offers regarding tour through Murano or ene bike tour on the Lido we will definitely still book. We make a clear recommendation for Valerio.
Super cool tour, lots of Insider information! Can also be made ideally as a family, the children were involved and enjoyed the tour, including the Venetian snack in between. Valerio also provided us with many tips afterwards when we were traveling alone in Venice.
Valerio was a great guide, he immediately responded to our needs and those of the children and told us great insights about Venice. I would book a guided tour with him again at any time.
The tour was entertaining, informative and personable. Valerio shows you the real charm of Venice next to the main tourist streams.
3 wonderful tours in 2 days with Valerio- and each of them was a holiday gem. Charming, detailed, funny, in between still recommendations for our “leisure” and the food. On time. Perfect match for our four travel companions. Very good German. I would definitely stay again.
The tour was really very good and the guide well prepared. The guide could answer any of our questions.
Very nice, entertaining, very good knowledge, accompanied by many anecdotes. Gave us a lot of interesting information. Was very punctual and reliable. Has also given very good tips. Due to the shortness of time (2 hours) Valerio wanted to show us his interesting tour completely, as it was raining quite a bit, a stop at a nice cafe would be a good alternative, which one or the other of our small group of four wished for and hinted at. All in all a very nice, competent and highly recommended guide
We took Valerio for a whole afternoon off the beaten track through Venice. He responds individually to wishes and questions and with his humorous, rousing manner he has brought us closer to Venice and its history. He has enormous knowledge and his enthusiasm is palpable and infectious. We will gladly come back and let Valerio accompany us through Venice!
We were already on the road with Valerio for the second time. After Dorsoduro last year, this time he showed us Cannaregio. It was once again very good. Valerio responded to all our wishes and can tell the history and present of Venice very well. Next time we will show him another sestiere (quarter of Venice). Oh yes: he picked us up, speaks perfect German and gave us some good restaurant tips as well.
Valerio is a great guide who showed us Venice off the beaten track. It was fantastically beautiful and we would book it again and again. Valerio, I'm sure we'll see you again 🤗🇮🇹
Great background information about the city that can not be found in any guidebook! All our questions were answered in detail and there were a lot of additional tips! Continue... On our next trip we will approach Valerio again! Thank you.
Had a very great afternoon in Venice with Valerio who told us a lot about the city and accompanied us through many alleys we would never have seen without him Thanks again to Valerio A 100% recommendation
