We were four friends with four different mother tongues. Valerio proved a marvellous guide in excellent English, German (& even Italian!), showing us parts of his home town which even the two of us, who thought they knew Venice very well, had rarely visited before and certainly never with such a well informed guide. We cannot recommend Valerio enough and certainly hope to be able to avail ourselves of his services again on any future visit.

Itinerary
Our journey begins in a charming Campiello near Ca’ Foscari, a gothic palace on the Grand Canal that houses the headquarters of the Venice University. While we explore Dorsoduro, a neighborhood full of art and local life, remember that our private tours offer ultimate flexibility! Would you prefer to visit other iconic districts like Cannaregio, Castello, San Polo, Santa Croce, or even the heart of San Marco? Just let us know, and we’ll tailor the route to your desires!
We’ll pass by the iconic Ca’ Foscari, a gothic palace that stands proudly on the Grand Canal. It is home to the Venice University, and its architectural beauty is a perfect example of Venetian Gothic style, with its stunning stonework and intricate details. The building once belonged to the wealthy Foscari family, and today it serves as a center for learning, blending rich history with the vibrancy of student life. It’s an essential part of the cultural fabric of Venice!
The Largest Canvas in the World Close to a Banksy Graffito We’ll continue our journey by entering the Church of San Pantalon, home to the largest painting on canvas in the world. This masterpiece covers the entire ceiling, leaving visitors in awe. Just outside, we’ll find Venice’s only Banksy graffito, cleverly reflected in the canal’s waters—an unexpected juxtaposition of modern art against Venice’s rich historical backdrop.
One Nightlife Hub: Campo Santa Margherita Next, we’ll visit Campo Santa Margherita, one of the most vibrant and beloved squares in Venice. It’s a hub of social life, especially in the evenings, with bustling cafés, local bars, and outdoor seating that create a lively atmosphere. The square is a perfect blend of authentic Venetian charm and youthful energy, often frequented by locals and students. Its open space, surrounded by beautiful buildings, makes it a great spot to pause, soak in the surroundings, and experience a side of Venice that many tourists miss.
Indiana Jones in Venice and Katharine Hepburn Falling into a Canal: Campo San Barnaba Next, we’ll step into the charming Campo San Barnaba, a picturesque square that transports you to another time. Known for its beautiful church and the iconic scene from the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, this square also features a stunning view of the canal. It's the location where Katharine Hepburn famously "fell" into the water, adding a touch of cinematic history to this tranquil spot. The atmosphere here is serene, making it a perfect place to pause and reflect.
A Mill Transformed Into a Luxury Hotel We’ll stroll along the San Basilio area, once the bustling maritime terminal for steamers in the 19th century, and enjoy the scenic view of the Canale della Giudecca. On our right, we’ll admire the Molino Stucky, a striking example of 19th-century industrial architecture. This former flour mill has been magnificently transformed into a luxury hotel, retaining its impressive industrial character while blending modern hospitality. The building stands as a testament to Venice's evolving history and its industrial heritage.
A Large Promenade This wide fondamenta, once known as "Carbonaia" for the coal unloaded here, was paved in 1519 and later named "delle Zattere" due to its role as a docking point for rafts—called "Zattere"—that carried wood to the Arsenale from the mainland. Today, the Zattere offers a beautiful, peaceful walk along the Giudecca Canal, providing stunning views of the water and the buildings that line the shore. It’s a tranquil space where you can soak in Venice’s rich maritime history.
The Heart of Gondola Crafting: Squero San Trovaso Squero San Trovaso is a hidden gem where the centuries-old tradition of gondola craftsmanship comes to life. Nestled along the peaceful canals of Dorsoduro, this charming boatyard is a living testament to Venice's maritime heritage, offering an intimate look at the art of boatbuilding. The picturesque setting, coupled with the sound of woodwork and gentle waves, makes it a must-see for those seeking to explore the authentic soul of Venice.
A Fortune Goddess Over the Dorsoduro Triangle Tip As we reach the tip of the Dorsoduro triangle, we’ll marvel at a fascinating combination of historical landmarks, all set in one of Venice’s most scenic areas where the Grand Canal meets the Giudecca Canal. Here, we’ll stroll by a majestic art museum housed in an old customs building, admire an impressive baroque church, and explore the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice. The highlight is the striking statue of the Fortune Goddess, watching over the tranquil scene, symbolizing both luck and prosperity for this beautiful corner of the city.

Today I had the pleasure of joining Valerio’s Off the Beaten Path Walk through Dorsoduro. I thought I knew this district well, but I left seeing it from a completely different perspective. One of the highlights for me was our visit to the Church of San Pantalon. I had been there before, but thanks to Valerio’s explanations, even inside one of its beautiful chapels, I noticed details and meanings I would never have discovered on my own. Valerio is exceptionally knowledgeable, but what truly sets him apart is the way he shares his passion. History, local traditions, art, and even the iconic films shot in the very places we were exploring all came together naturally, making every stop meaningful and memorable. What I appreciated most was that this wasn’t just a walking tour, it was an invitation to slow down, look beyond the obvious, and experience Venice in a much more authentic way. Thank you, Valerio, for reminding me that Venice always has something new to reveal when you explore it with the right person. I can’t wait for the next tour!
Valerio was fantastic! He is very knowledgeable, funny and kind. Had a wonderful time with him touring the city on a very hot day! Can’t wait to tour with him again soon.
Valerio did a great job. He met us outside of our hotel and was excited to share the wonders of Venice. He even sent a list of options for supper and helped us with our next days activities. This was a wonderful experience!
Was a great tour today with Velario! Thank you for showing us some hidden treasures of Venice.
We enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot about Venice with Valerio. Including places that are not the typical tourist destinations. Highly recommended!
Wonderful tour of Venice off the beaten path. Valerio was knowledgeable and entertaining and took us where regular Venitians live and shop. He showed us many local shops and food stores where we returned after the tour to eat, drink and shop! Great experience in Venice!!
This is my second tour with Valerio - the first was a private tour with a friend and this was a small group. Both tours took us to quieter parts of Venice away from the main tourist drag and explored aspects of Venetian life I was curious about. Enjoyed both equally although the private tour did involve a Select Spritz 😀Valerio has also been a great source of information about the best restaurants etc which helps when there’s so much choice. If you can see him early in your trip and then use his expertise to plan the best week.
Valerio was a very personable and knowledgeable guide. It’s a very good tour to do after you see the major tourist sites and are interested in something a little different.
We had a fun and fascinating couple of hours walking with Valerio, together with another couple. He is able to communicate not only his deep 'insider' knowledge of Venice and its history and buildings, but also his enthusiasm for the city. As promised he took us to to some less busy but still very attractive areas and gave us a valuable insight into the 'real' Venice, away from the crowds. A really interesting guy - highly recommended!
Excellent tour with knowledgeable guide who adapted tour to interests . I highly recommend seeing the other side of Venice - even more beautiful ( if that is possible ) than the well visited sites and certainly quieter!
Valerio was a terrific guide. We learned so much about Venice and he put everything into historical context which made the tour very meaningful. Highly recommend Valerio for your time in Venice.
Valerio is a very personable, informative, interesting and humorous guide. We were in a small group, but everyone was included. A truly off the beaten path Venice tour!
My husband and I saw so much of Venice in the two hours with Valerio! We LOVED our day and got the best secrets, while experiencing all the neat neighborhoods of Venice. I highly recommend this tour. Valerio is super helpful, kind and loves his town. Thank you!
We had a great time with Valerio and learnt more about Venice in 2 hours than we have on any other tour. He showed us some of the hidden gems of the city and gave just many suggestions/ recommendations for our remaining days. He also came and had a drink with us after, so it was nice to hang out with a local. We would recommend going on this tour on your first day in Venice so that you better understand the ins and outs of the city.
Very very nice tour but minimum of 4 hours and st. Mark is a most to see. And prepare alot of money.
If you want to learn more about Venice, If you want a private and personalized experience, If you’d like to talk and converse with a genuine born and bred Venitian, If you’re looking for of the beaten path, If you want to have a great experience, Book Valerio, you won’t regret it! I had the best time!

Jenny has been absolutely perfect. We really enjoyed the tour. We visited some hidden places in Venice. Thanks
We have been on tour with Valerio yesterday. He knows 'his Venice', loves it and serves it with enthusiam. It also helps that he has seen a lot himself, so he better understands where questions are coming from
We did the tour with Valerio yesterday. He was very kind and funny - it was like walking with a friend through Venice. Valerio knows everything about the city: history, little streets, interesting side facts and great spots to eat and drink! We would def recommend this tour / a tour with Valerio and would do it again - it was real fun! Thank you, Valerio!
Real nice tour with a friendly and helpful guide. We made a nice walk through the real Venice with lots of hidden places and secrets. A must for every visitor!
Valerio led us on a city walk through the Ghetto and Cannaregio and gave us a lot of information about life in the past and today. He presented his anecdotes and historical background in a very witty and funny way.
A very friendly guide brightened our day with an alternative, less touristy route, sharing details of daily life and giving us the chance to see unusual glimpses.
Excellent guided tour with professionally prepared, kind, flexible and nice person
We had a wonderful trip with Valerio away from the crowds. Our tour was absolutely top! Thank you for all the interesting information, Valerio.
Valerio is a sympathetic guide of the speaks very good German. The tour off the beaten track was very informative and fun. He gave us a lot of background knowledge. Thank you very much, we will be back.
It was a great pleasure to explore “his city” with Valerio away from the hustle and bustle and tourist crowds. Four of us followed him through narrow streets and charming corners that we could not have reached on our own. And it was so good to experience another Venice! He has interwoven the history of Venice with exciting stories about the city and people. Above all, however, he also responded to all our questions with great competence. We were happy to follow him, asked a lot and discussed ... and above all laughed a lot! THANK YOU VALERIO
Valerio guided us wonderfully for 2 hours through Dorsoduro, told exciting details and taught us orientation in the streets of Venice. This was exactly what we had hoped for from a tour away from the tourist attractions!
Valerio can tell you all about Venice. Two hours was too short because you're hanging on his lips. Highly recommended if you want to know more about the city and its history. Well worth the money.
It all worked out. Valerio is a great, very authentic guide who cared deeply that I or we (2 people, mega!) get a great tour. He had his plan but was also very flexible on us to take in our plans and questions. It was very entertaining and informative, highly recommended and a gift for the prize. Grace, Valerio!
Von Anfang bis Ende alles Super. Geniale Tour durch Gassen und Stadtviertel, wo du sonst so nicht hingehst. Andere Infos zur Stadt und tolle lokale Tips. Gern jeder Zeit wieder. Danke Valerio
Great tour away from the tourist crowds. We were lucky enough to be only three, so it was very personal. Valerio made the tour special with a lot of wit and charm. To top it all off, there were great tips on places to eat and other excursion tips via WhatsApp. Thank you Valerio, a great tour!
Experienced guide, friendly and punctual. Local guide with lots of curious news.Thank you See you soon. Everybody happy.
Valerio is extremely well versed and imparts his great knowledge in an extremely sympathetic way. The tour was a great experience.
I really enjoyed this tour away from the crowded areas. Valerio was very nice and funny and made the tour a great experience. I received a lot of useful tips from him via WhatsApp for other sights, good places to eat and how to reach them, so I always had them at hand, which was very helpful. I highly recommend this tour!
A really really nice tour, as booked off the tourist trails!! The guide, Valerio is super nice, showed us really nice places, which I, although I have been 5 times in Venice, did not know yet and probably would not have found alone. Valerio was not only VERY nice, he has a lot of knowledge and told us a lot of great things and could answer any question we asked. He also responded to us very individually. All in all, worth every cent you pay. It just doesn't get any better! Thanks again for everything!!!
Thanks to Valerio, our guide. This was the second tour with him in Venice... We have explored paths and seen corners of Venice, which can be found in m guidebook. We have heard great information about Venetian life, history, food, traditions - just fantastic. And with a flexible and authentic guide! We will gladly recommend you and your tours!
We had booked a tour off the beaten track and had a very competent companion with Valerio. He gave us a lot of interesting information during these two hours and drew our attention to many details that we would otherwise have carelessly passed. We have decided to spend the next holiday in Venice again and gladly book a tour with Valerio again.
Super tour, highly recommended. It was very interesting and individual. Valerio was able to inspire us for Venice. Ante and Ines
Valerio did a great job. Likeable, friendly and cheerful, he presented us with the charming corners of Venice away from the tourist crowds. He was able to answer our questions - whether economic, historical, political, cultural - at the touch of a button. He also gave us valuable tips for further city exploration. Highly recommended!
We were very satisfied and will definitely book again in the future with Valerio off the beaten track because he also offers this for other districts. Venice has not only St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge, but so many other beauties to offer! Thank you Valerio!! See you next year Andy and Eve
We have been to Venice many times, but Vitoriio was able to inspire with its really unknown corners for us. As a "real" Venetian he knows the city well and as a well-travelled man he can respond very well to the guests. We can only recommend the tour , you go home happy afterwards with the feeling of seeing the city as VIP info. Finally, the perfect ice cream tip and we were hapoy, because even this information converted 1:1 was sensational. Grazie Vitorio, we recommend you and the tour gladly !!!
Valerio, with his very in-depth expertise, led us to places in Venice, away from the tourist streams that we would not have found on our own. Very informative and recommended.
We had through Mrs. Dott. Fiona Giusto first took a water taxi ride and then a two-hour tour of Venice in the footsteps of Commissario Brunetti. Mrs. Giusto has been able to tell and show us everything important, informative and also many anecdotes in an excellent way. We had a wonderful 3 hours together. The guided tours by Mrs. Giusto are more than recommended. She also gave us more good tips for visiting Venice. We were thrilled and more than satisfied with the leadership
The name of the tour fits perfectly - Valerio led us - “around the corner” from St. Mark’s Square - to alleys and squares that one would hardly have discovered on their own and which give a completely different view of the city and its history. Coupled with knowledge and anecdotes, these are two entertaining hours that are absolutely worthwhile!
The tour “Off the beaten track” with Valerio I can recommend to everyone! We made them with friends and 1teenager. Valerio told everything exciting and interesting and managed to involve everyone personally. The tour flew by and we also received a few tips for our further explorations at the end! Always happy and thank you to Valerio!
Valerio has guided us charmingly, knowledgeably and entertainingly through Venice - we would book him again anytime! Mille grazie
