Prigioni was fantastic. She provided wonderful tidbits of information and context during the tour. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and a delight to spend time with on this tour. Highly recommend!

Listen to the myths and legends that still live inside these cold cells and halls. Along the route, you’ll enjoy the explanation of the powerful “Council of The Ten”, composed of the highest Venice Politicians that oversaw justice in all Venetian domains. Since the birth of the Republic, Venice has been always careful in the administration of justice, which used to do proudly with its judicial system. composed by courts, lawyers, and magistrates. One of the main points was the operating police used to resolve fights and punish the perpetrators of crimes. Nowadays the Palace, which overlooks the stunning Riva Degli Schiavoni, is home to an important Venetian cultural institution.

Miriam was amazing! The tour was informative and she was very enthusiastic.
We had an amazing experience on the Prison and Torture Tour at Palazzo delle Prigioni! Our guide, Mariam, was absolutely fantastic! She was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many interesting details about the history of the prison and the different torture devices used throughout the years. She explained everything clearly and made the tour both fascinating and engaging. It was such a unique experience and a great way to learn about a darker side of Venice’s history. We highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re interested in history! Thank you, Mariam, for such a wonderful experience!
Its a walk through museum where an old prison used to be. Super interesting. The one downside is that its promoted as family friendly. I attended a 3pm with my 7.5 year old and 2 .5 year old husband and dad. There was a man making comments towards me and my 2.5 year old because she was talking as a 2.5 year old will. The guide and the other guests weren't bothered. However the guide didn't intervene either. The situation became uncomfortable and I felt harrased, enough that I left the group with my 2.5 year old. I sought out support from the museum management and was told not to worry. With that said at thar point I was no longer feeling relaxed or able to enjoy the tour. It needs to be made clear when an event is promoted as family friendly that this means others should expect the dynamics that come with children. Perhaps offering an adult only version. So while I recommend the tour itself, as a family I would not attend.
Emma our guide was patient and helpful. We found this insightful and felt so lucky that we were the only ones on the tour so got to ask as many questions as we like. Emma was great at making sure she pitched the tour to the comfort of us making sure if we needed detail or not on various torture devices.
This was a great tour. Very macabre, thought provoking, sickening at times. Reminisce about the times when you could be accused of a crime by a neighbour and tortured without trial. This tour goes inside the prison next to the palace and next to the bridge of sighs, showing the cells prisoners were kept in and some of the original devices to torture to gain confessions from the guilty and the innocent.
Great to learn the history of the Venetian prison and cast system. Guide was knowledgeable and fun. Nice to be able to walk around the rooms to see the conditions
This was a wonderful one on one tour with Alex. Alex was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, the night lords, and various forms of torture implements. I’m glad I paid attention so she didn’t have to use any on me. Alex had the skill of a museum docent and curator who had been doing the profession for a decade, I was very surprised to learn she had only been doing tours for a year, I highly recommend booking this if you’re in Venice. Ask for Alex and tell her Mike sent you so you can avoid being put in the Big Venetian chair. Thanks Alex!
Julia was an amazing guide - I definitely recommend getting the guided tour. She had great stories, was extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, and answered all of our questions as we moved throughout. Very unique and cool experience!
Julia did an amazing job explaining everything and answering all our extra questions .
This is a very short, but interesting tour. It was really eye opening to the torture that people endured in Venice. Highly recommend!
I had an amazing tour with our guide Julia! She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience enjoyable from start to finish. she was happy to answer all our questions. I’m extremely satisfied with the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Julia for such a wonderful experience
Great efficient tour that’s intimate, entertaining and a relief from some of the other tours. My guide was excellent (ended up a private tour) and the history, knowledge and storytelling was great.
Great interaction with the Guide. Very informative and detailed orientated, with the right amount of humor and time for personal exploration
Our guide Leah is a friendly guide with professional knowledge about the palace and the history. 我们的导游leah人很好,知识丰富,导游过程中很耐心解答我们的问题
Anastasia was fantastic! Really great experience. Highly recommended!!!!
The man was so informative and explained every aspect of what we asked
I took a tour with Polina in March and had a great experience. She was very knowledgeable about the palace history and torture instruments, and explained everything clearly. The tour lasted about 45 minutes, covered two floors, and was very enjoyable. Polina was also friendly and welcoming. The exhibition was interesting, with some real objects she pointed out. I highly recommend this tour guide
Very interesting tour into Venice’s dark history, with lots of exhibits and artefacts. Our guide Paulina was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot from our experience! Highly recommend if you’re at a loose end near San Marco square :)
Very explanatory. Thank you Polina
beautiful experience, the guide Julia speaks really well and is very engaging (I recommend her 😉)
Interesting tour and very kind guide
1st time in Venice for me and my husband , It was a interesting and really informative tour, Been march the group was small so perfect for us, Overall just great and very recommended.
Had an enjoyable tour with Julia. Very knowledgeable and polite. Thankyou Julie!
Julia is the best tour guide i’ve ever seen in my life, her english is perfect, it was a really nice experience, thank u julia
Brilliant tour by Elia who explained all the different cells and the implements of torture that were used in the past. It’s chilling to think that some of these methods are still used in places around the world. Really interesting and thought provoking!
Very educational. Our guide Elia was really knowledgeable.
Awesome tour! Very informative and interesting. El is a great tour guide!
The guide was well informed and spent loads of time explaining the museum and sharing her knowledge of the prison and the history of prisons
Tour guide was great. She was very knowledgeable. She explained everything and answered any questions we had. Brilliant excursion
Very interesting and informative. Creepy, too! We had a small problem with the tour and Viator quickly handled it.
It was ok but underwhelming. Expecting more than what was offered re information and available things to look at. You won’t miss much if you pass on this tour.
Very good tour’s just be at pick up location on time and you will be fine, sometimes location dose not seem correct but someone will be there to meet you
I loved this tour. It's a little hard to find the entrance cause there are no signs. Google maps will take you right to the door. Inside the door is a booth where they will check your online ticket. It's a very quick tour, but very good with lots of replicas and some original equipment.
Giulia our guide made this visit memorable thanks to her excellent English and informative commentary. The visit details the umpteen ways in which prisoners of the place were made to suffer inhuman treatment and you can see replicas of the various torture devices and other products of man's cruelty to man. It is quite astonishing in scope. Giulia handled a commentary in Italian and an immediate and fluent translation into English. She was easy to understand and very thorough and passionate in her explanations. She invited questions and her answers were very informative. She made the whole visit a delight, in as much as a museum of torture can be a delight..
This is a great little tour. Loved our tour guide, she was so knowledgeable, good humor. There were some crazy torture methods back in the day. How many different ways can you use spikes??? If you love history, this is a great little off the beaten path way to spend an hour. Two thumbs up!
It says it's a guided tour but really you just walk around yourself, took about 15 minutes. It's cool to see but there's really only 2 areas, sounded like a much more extensive tour. You just see the torture devices, not where they kept prisoners or anything else it described. No sign at the entrance, just go up the stairs to find the one person working waiting for you. Unless you're really curious about medieval torture devices not really worth the money.
My family and I found this tour entertaining. Some of the devices and practices of older days might be useful to reduce crime today. Others were a bit to inhumane for me.
This tour was very interesting. It was just hard to find in the area. The lady was very nice and informative, but hard to understand for me. The only downside to this tour is the steps and the hot weather.
Very short tour. Only saw a handful of rooms with various torture apparatus which the majority came from other counties.
I had a hard time finding our guide. There was no company name on a sign being held up. We found our guide by asking other companies if they knew the one we were looking for. Our guide happen to hear us asking for the tour company and then confirmed we were with her. There was no type of company logo on her at all, just regular street clothes. She also had a strong accent and spoke really fast so it was hard to follow her most of the time. However what we did see was pretty cool. The types of torture devices were disturbing.
Great little alternative to the Doge's Palace, just on the opposite side of the bridge. The Prison Palace is where the 'new' prison was built as the Doge's side was not enough. You don't get to go on the Bridge of Sighs with the tour we had. We opted for the guided tour, called "Lords of the Night Prisons Palace: Cells and torture tools." It was such a good tour, really nicely run, informative, and ended up just being the two of us, so was like a private tour! We were told the history of the prison, given a tour of the cells and some great info. The tour was around 45 minutes long, and then we could explore at our leisure, which gave us time to read the information and look at anything not covered in the tour. It is definitely not for those who don't want to know about some of the more gruesome elements of life in medieval times, i.e. imprisonment cells, tools of interrogation, torture, and sometimes execution. We bought tickets 24 hours in advance, but there was no queue anyway, it was really empty, definitely somewhere that is missed because everyone goes to the other side of the bridge, where there was a huge queue. Lots of stairs and some uneven flooring in places. This review is also on Google with Viator referenced.
Go early and you could be the only people in the group and it's your own private tour. Very interesting things learned along the tour! Some of the things considered crimes make your jaw drop!
Guide informative but hard to hear as very quietly spoken and hard to understand with her strong accent. Didn't learn or see as much as expected.
Went there 10 minutes before the tour started. I asked the lady on the desk to go in. She said to wait outside and the tour guide will come to call me in. Waited over 30 minutes - no one came!! Do not recommend.
Interesting excursion, but no need to pay extra for the guided tour. You can just go to the front door and pay the basic entrance fee to get just as much out of it without the guide.
The tour was good. A lot of additional details and information provided by the guide. Charge for the tour was MORE using Viator than it would have been if we purchased at the door though (15 Euros vs 15.75 Euros). No discount with Viator.
Really good tour. Just the right length of time for children. The tour guide (sorry forgotten her name!) was really good and informative. Far more interesting than going in alone.
Sadly, no representative from the tour showed. We asked each tour company if they were a part of this tour displaying the printed copy of confirmation.. Each said no. Verified we were in the correct spot and took photos. If there was a change of location or time, we were not informed. We have used VIATOR many times successfully and will continue to do so as their tours are great. I'm sure VIATOR will handle this in a professional manner and encouage visitors to experience this most interesting venue.
Our tour guide was Marco. Very pleasant gentleman and very knowledgeable. Hidden gem in Venice and highly recommended. Gives an insight into life and law for ordinary people but extremely gruesome at the same time. Should book this tour. You won't be disappointed.
