It was too crowded and hard to keep up with the guide. She talked too fast and her English was not very good. We did not understand much of her narration. The Basilica was beautiful, however, and the tour was comprehensive.

Our guide Barbara was the best! Friendly, informative, moved things along without feeling rushed. Highly recommended!
She wasn’t very good and she was very rude! She didn’t explain anything of the tour! Not happy with her
There were four of us. First time to use trip advisor for a tour and was pleased. Price was reasonable compared to others. If you do not get skip the line, forget it. The lines were incredible and Venice is packed with tourists in June. Understand it gets worse in July and august. We enjoyed our tour although the basilica was also packed and difficult to walk around with so many people. Beautiful basilica, I cannot imagine going to Venice and not going inside the basilica.
The tour guide explained the historical value of the breathtaking history. In every direction was the wonder of the times
Going up to the dome was a great experience. Having the tour guide explain the facts made the tour worthwhile.
I’m sorry that I have forgotten our guide’s name. She had white hair, Hokas, and in great shape! She was wonderful! The tour was excellent.
Where you redeem the vouchers should be mentioned in the booking confirmation. It’s not well highlighted. There is no warning in the confirmation re dress code. I have booked a tour of the Vatican museums and it advises re dress code. I had to buy 2 scarves to cover my shoulders and knees 😱. I checked and re checked the voucher and it wasn’t stated. Guide was difficult to understand in English.
Our guide was 20 mins late. No apologies, no introductions. Talked very little. As a guide never said things like, ok, we are moving now. People were still looking all around and she would start walking through a very busy square. She didn’t ask who had tickets to the doges palace and who didn’t so we ended up following her (no explanation where we were going) and going through security to learn we were headed somewhere we hadnt purchased tickets for. She didn’t do a lot of talking other than in st marks and it’s not as much as I would have liked. We heard a lot of background noise from her headset, including her phone that kept going off. Very very disappointing to pay so much money for so little in return. We were a part of 4 (family) but kids were older than teens.
An amazing church, the mosaics are incredible! And the view of the square from the outside balcony is incredible. And the horse statues….haven’t seen anything like them in a church before. The basilica appears rather gaudy on the outside but seeing inside is definitely worth it.
Easy to find where to pick the tickets up. And meet the guide who was very knowledgeable about the tour. And took time to answer any questions
Reserved the tour through St. Mark's partner Headout two months in advance. I got a confirmation email stating my tour was booked and my credit card was charged. Showed up for tour only to find out St. Mark's was closed that day. Headout never notified me to potentially change my date and I had to leave Venice without seeing St Mark's. So take your chances booking this tour. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. You'll find out when you get there.
It was nice to be shown around, to get to go to the terrace and hear information. The spreader had a thick accent, but was short enough to be informative and short enough for teens.
Great guided tour to see the basilica. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would recommend.
Very knowledgeable guide and definitely worth it to skip the line and see this magnificent place. We did receive an email confirmation but no tickets via email. They give you an Address to meet and there is actually a ticket booth where you stand in line and show them your confirmation. You meet at 10:35 but tour is from 11-12 which is not clear in the tour description. There is a real guide and you get headsets to hear her. You must ask them to speak into their microphone if you can not hear. Don’t be shy about asking!
We met our guide (Diana) at the Meeting Point in the Palazzo. Our group was small and she used a microphone and we were all given earpieces so we were able to hear what was being said. She was very passionate and very informative with some humour added too. She also gave us some very interesting facts. We did 'skip the line' and worth noting that photography is not allowed. Would definitely recommend this tour - well worth it.
Our guide was excellent and we had a small group. However, it was nearly impossible to find the meeting place!! Viator has to do a better job of explaining where to meet their tours. We had difficulty in several cities. Probably we had a small group because the meeting place was so poorly explained!!!
Very informative. I have visited St Marks before but never with a tour. Highly recommend a tour makes it so much more enjoyable plus you skip the line!!
The ‘skip-the-line’ description of this tour is misleading. Our group did have to queue to enter the basilica for about 15 minutes, although our guide used the time to point out and explain some of the external features of the facade of the basilica. Inside we had to queue again to see the pala d’oro although our guide managed to push in half way up the queue. Explanations and commentary by the guide were interesting but could have been more detailed. Guide was in English and German.
Tour was supposed to start at 11:50. The ushered us back and forth St Marks square, then we stood around for 40 minutes. Once inside, it was impossible to keep up with the tour lady as it was so crowded. The audio headphones helped but the lady was difficult to understand and told the same stories over . The skip the line part did not work - the tour guide could not find the contact so we ended up having to wait with the regular line. A number of people left as they did not anticipate having it take so long. Very poorly organized. St Marks itself is beautiful - highly recommend but don't bother with this tour.
We booked this tour last minute so were not able to get in a small group, however there were only about 20 people in our group and the guide used a microphone & we all had earphones so we could easily hear what was being said. Our guide was very passionate about her topic and her city. She was informative and took her time allowing the group time to enjoy the beauty of the Basilica. She explained the mosaics and the history. We met our guide in the plaza and were able to go directly in skipping the long line. No pictures allowed inside so leave your camera behind or in your bag. I would highly recommend this tour.
Was very good. The tour guide was very understandable not a thick accent. She gave a lot of information that was interesting. The only down side was it was a little hard to hear through the head set and my ear piece got really hot but I could have just gotten a bad set.
Although we had a tour guide, our visit felt very rushed. We were told about the ancient floors, some have been covered. It was a shame we rushed around so much. One of the tour participants said she’d never been round a cathedral so quickly. Next time I’d rather go with a private guide so I can set the pace.
Good to book a tour as the queue to visit was very long. Beautiful building a lot to see. Our guide did not have the best English and therefore not all the information given was understood but you could soak in your surroundings and the artwork and architecture was amazing. Make sure of the dress code and bags before visiting as they can turn you away if not appropriate.
Probably one of the worst tours we've ever been on. A beautiful church inside with lots of stories illustrated in gold based mosaic, but very difficult to follow. The "english" guide was very hard to follow with extremely thick italian accent & limited english vocabulary. Lots of pointing up, sore neck. Basilica only, extras for balcony & museum. Our vote - don't bother.
Good value, incredibly informative, well organised. We booked for 12pm it’s an hour tour then headed for lunch straight after, perfect.
Great guide, very informative. Tour was short but inclusive. Highly recommend. St Marks is incredible. This is must see while in Venice.
Less the tour operator, more the church itself - this is one of those tours that could be passed without regret if time is tight. Great if it is the only church in Italy to be visited because there is nothing like it in the USA. On the other hand, if St Peter's Basilica in Rome came first, this one will be less impressive. My son learned about it in college so it was much more interesting to him and than to the rest of the family.
Before I say anything - if you are going to Venice, you must visit the Basilica and, if you are going to the Basilica, you should think about "skip the line" tickets as the queue is enormous and it may be really hot. That being said, our experience of this particular "skip the line' guided tour was terrible! We booked this tour of St Mark's Basilica essentially to skip the line - not for the tour itself. The arrangements were that we would meet at 11.50am at a spot on the other side of St Mark's Square and we were met by two young Italian ladies who were friendly and helpful. We then, as a group, crossed St Mark's Square to meet up with another 'organiser' who gave us a hearing aid which would allow us to hear the guide. We were also ushered to a bag drop place prior to going into the Basilica as they are not keen on big bags or backpacks (none of the historic venues seem to allow people in with these). We then walked, as a group, the exit of Doge's Palace where we were to wait for the actual guide. We waited and waited and waited. It transpired that our tour guide was taking another group around Doge's Palace an, once they were finished there, we were to join them to get into the Basilica. Given we arrived prompt for our 11.50am meet, this was now after 12.30pm - in hot and sticky temperatures - folks were getting a little fed up (my 12 year old included)!! We then got on our way, only to stop again to allow those in the original group to drop off bags (at the same place we had been 30 minutes earlier). Some of us who had joined the group had problems with the "hearing aids" so the tour guide suggested we return to the young ladies whom we had met earlier - however, she did not intend waiting for us!! We eventually got into St Marks and my daughter and I politely made our excuses and left the group. We wandered around at our leisure and it was a great visit - lots of amazing artifacts and things to see. Well worth a visit!! xx
tour was changed, had to wait half an hour for the tour guide, no skip the line and there was last minute change of plan
After reading several favorable reviews on Trip Advisor, and the recommendation of the concierge at the Bauer Palazzo, we were very pleased with the efficiency and ease of using this service. The concierge said that there are several services online that offer Skip the line, but he said to only book with the one that is specially,Skip the Line. It was Inexpensive and reliable. Be on time or you will lose your place!
We were completely misled, this tour was sold to us as "guaranteed to skip the long lines" however we were made to wait nearly an hour in 30C heat for the Tour Guide to show up, the tour was supposed to start at 11.50am. The queue was longer than the actual tour, complete waste of money, I wouldnt recommend this tour to anyone.
Tour started half an hour late, then we had to do a line for another half hour. So "skip the line" is not true. Tour itself was mildly interesting, but waiting for an hour in the sun ruined everything.
Our guide was excellent, but over half time of tour was spent outside the Basilica itself. Also no access to the balistrade above whereas other parties clearly had access to that area.
<p>Not really skip the line as we still had to wait on line as there had just been a major service, and access was somewhat limited...not really the fault of the tour group, but still unfortunate. The Basilica itself is spectacular, and at end of tour, make sure to also go to the museum upstairs too a few extra euro</p>
<p>The beginning of the tour was hectic and disorganized. We were divided into groups and ushered to another location, where we waited. No one explained what was going on, even when asked. Our group waited 40 minutes before we met our guide and were led inside St Marks Basilica. Once inside, the tour was very good.</p>
<p>A great way to see the basilica without waiting in the long lines. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. So beautiful and so much history!</p>
<p>I really loved the whole square around the Basilica there were other museums and restraunts that I would have liked to seen but we had the guided tour booked so we did that. It was a very packed church so it was good that we were with a group and could skip the lines but because the size of our group and the packed nature of the church we kept loosing people. The tour guide was quite fast and moved along regardless of weather or not you caught what she said or were up with the rest of the group. Also you couldnt take photos in most of it so that was kind of a bummer. If you can get in without a long line and just wander through yourself you will have more time to see the other great sights in the area. There is ALOT to see.</p>
<p>A must-see for all visitors to Venice. The advantage of doing it with a guide is that you don't have to queue up for hours with the general public as you have a pre-booked appointment, and you have someone telling you all about what you are looking at. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to ensure that everyone in the group around 20 was able to make the most of their visit even with limited mobility. You have a radio set and an ear piece and can hear the guide clearly all the way round. The Golden Altarpiece is included in the guided tour and is well worth a visit. Lovely views from the balcony and don't skip the museum either for an extra 5 euros.</p>
No waiting times, nice guide, lots of information about the church and anecdotes about history. The Basilica is an impressive church!
Excelente guía, muy buena opción para conocer esta maravillosa basílica. Recomendable al 100% Gracias
Prenotato in italiano ma ricevuta guida in inglese. Ho sfruttato il biglietto solo per l ingresso in basilica con salta fila
Cutting lines is very efficient. On the other hand, the audiophone that costs you 12 euros per person (at least since we paid 20 euros with the ticket without Guide). The provided QR code returns you to an app that you are unable to download. It is therefore of no use at all. That is 20€ per person, without comment, for the visit of the basilica and without the gold treasure! Disappointed
Good organization for the distribution of tickets , the guide was very good , and we heard the comments very well , the only catch c is that it was in English and we didn't necessarily understand everything ( maybe there are not many French guides)
Very good guide, competent and very clear in explanations. Duration of one hour but exhaustive visit.
Reimbursing me for the visit we did not make since the basilica is closed for work!!!! And how can I compensate myself for the time lost waiting for a guide who obviously never came?
Visite agréable avec un guide charmant rien que pour nous 2. Dommage de ne pas pouvoir visiter l'intérieur de la basilique en raison de sa restauration due aux dommages de l'acqua alta.
The cost of 70,- EUR (2 pers) for the tour has been settled, but the tour did not take place as St. Mark's Basilica is closed for sightseeing - and probably until the end of the year according to a lady at the back entrance of St. Mark's Basilica. There was no one available on site who could have been approached for guidance. Clarification of the facts with the organizer has been initiated. We hope there will be a refund of the costs. We are very disappointed!
Muy buena la guia. Contaba cosas súper interesantes. Lo malo es q teniamos una visita en español y al final fue también con un grupo de holandeses, y lo reoetua todo, en ingles y español. Lo demas perfecto
For those interested in art history, this tour is highly recommended! Really not a queue.
