Valerio had wonderful energy he took us through the windy streets of Venice sampling food my kids enjoyed. We experienced areas where locals relax and popped back into the hustle and bustle. This was a fun and informative tour.i would recommend Valerio .

Itinerary
Sant'Angelo Vaporetto Stop: A View of Brunetti's Terrace Our journey begins at the Sant'Angelo vaporetto stop, where we’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the famous Brunetti family terrace. This is the very spot where the family often enjoys large dinners and aperitifs, all with a spectacular view of the Grand Canal.
A Rosticceria Every Venetian Knows Next, we’ll stop at a historic Venetian rosticceria that has been serving the workers of San Marco since the 1930s. Here, we’ll taste some delicious fried Mozzarella in Carrozza or a tramezzino, paired with a glass of red wine. Brunetti himself would often stop here for a quick bite, enjoying the authentic flavors of Venice.
Rialto Market: Venice's Authentic Food Heart We’ll cross the famous Rialto Bridge and explore the vibrant Rialto Market, where the fishmongers’ stalls overflow with fresh seafood. Here, we’ll try some fried fish paired with a glass of Prosecco, just as the locals—like Sergeant Vianello and Officer Alvise—would do during their breaks from work.
A Stop in a Traditional Bacaro for Cicchetti Time for some cichetti, the quintessential Venetian snacks, served in traditional bàcari (cicchetti bars). We’ll enjoy small plates of seafood, meat, and vegetables atop slices of bread or polenta, accompanied by a glass of wine. Just like Brunetti, who would often grab a quick meal of cichetti when Paola wasn’t cooking for him, we’ll enjoy a taste of everyday Venetian life.
Dulcis in Fundo: A Historic Venetian Pasticceria To continue in sweetness, we’ll visit a historic pasticceria, where we’ll enjoy a coffee and taste freshly made pastries, just as the sweet-toothed Sergeant Vianello would. The air is filled with the scent of fresh dough, and we’ll indulge in Venetian treats like bussolai and fritole—a perfect way to treat ourselves in true Venetian style.
A Final Amaro: A Historic Trattoria in Dorsoduro To conclude our culinary journey, we’ll enjoy a local amaro in a historic trattoria in the Dorsoduro district, a place frequented by Commissario Brunetti himself. As we sip the bitter-sweet herbal liqueur, we’ll take in the view of the famous terrace of the Questura, where Brunetti, Elettra, and Vice-Questore Patta have often paused to reflect on their cases. This is a perfect way to wrap up our tour, savoring the essence of Venice, its flavors, and its mysteries, just as the characters of Donna Leon’s stories might do after a long day of investigation.
Tour Variations: Customizable Experience: Please note that the stops on the tour can vary. The shared small group tour is based on the German TV adaptation of Donna Leon’s novels, while the private German tour may include different stops depending on your preferences. The private English tour, on the other hand, is based on the novels and therefore includes different locations.

This was a great tour! Our tour guide was Valerio and he was amazing. He texted me in the morning with clear directions of where to meet. He was on time and truly made the most of our three hours. He was informative snd super funny. He made sure to ask us what we liked to eat and even tried to accommodate the picky people. I posted a picture of what my adult kids ate, squid and sardines… yuk, but they loved it. We got to try so many different foods and drinks in far out places in Venice we would have never known about. Definitely take this small intimate tour! You will love it.
I got more than I expected. Valerio was an amazing guide. I chose this tour to see the city and maybe have a snack or two. I left stuffed with food and full of drinks. It was an amazing experience, Valerio was funny and full of great information and we sampled so many good “off the beaten path” snacks!
Genny provided such a wonderful experience. She was super knowledgable about the restaurants/bars and shared some delicious Venetian treats with us. She took us off the main streets and introduced us to a quieter and truely magical side of Venice sharing history of the city and landmarks. And better yet, she was so much fun to be with, it was like meeting a friend in Venice for a tour.
Genny had such an amazing, kind, and laid back energy. We really enjoyed our ten tastings food tour through Venice. Venice is so beautiful and it was great to learn about the history behind some of the landmarks and things you’d never notice on your own just walking through the city. The tour was the perfect blend between delicious food, drinks, and historical landmarks/information. My husband and I both thought the walking to food ratio was great. Everything was timed well, so we didn’t feel heavy and stuffed at the end. Genny was able to answer our questions and give a great tour. She also helped us find some other nice activities later in our trip. You can tell she is very passionate about her city and she loves sharing the culture through both food and history. We would gladly take another tour with Genny and recommend her to anyone who wants to experience the beauty Venice has to offer! xx Thank you Genny!
This was the best way to start our time in Venice. Our tour guide Volario was amazing from pre-trip communication straight to the end of our tour. Everywhere we went was unique and we loved them all. Great way to eat, drink and explore this wonderful city.
We had a wonderful time with Valerio! He was a great tour guide and such a delight to talk to. He really knows Venice and all the best stops. We always felt safe and well cared for. I’m not big on wine or spritz so he got me a beer at every stop.
I can't recommend Genny enough. She took my husband and me on a private food tour and it was our favourite activity on our stay in Venice, without a doubt. She not only showed us fantastic food at all the locals' spots but gave us so much interesting history on the route and helped us with a gondola booking the next day. She is warm and a joy to share company with - everyone seems to know her and comes out to say hi :) Her tour is a true Venetian experience not to be missed!
Lovely unhurried ‘food tour’ with lots of extra history lessons on the way. Lovely way to spend an afternoon 🙂
We had an amazing time on our tour with Genny! Her upbeat personality is so enjoyable. She shared so much knowledge and culture with us as will as delicious food and drinks. Highly recommend her as she showed us the best time and wonderful local places to such as Bacarando!
Genny is personable, knowledgeable & a lot of fun. She guided us around the maze of alleys & courtyards to fabulous tiny bars and cafes. She is a font of historical & current information. A most enjoyable tour taken with an expert guide
Loved the tour! Even went back for more the next day! Would have never seen some of the places Genny showed us. She was so personable and welcoming! Would definitely recommend her to any friends going to Venice!
Genny is amazing! She is incredibly personable and friendly. She is very knowledgeable in the history of the city and food. Plus all the food spots she chose for us were local places only and had food I’m still thinking about! If we are ever back in the area we will definitely be reaching out to her again!
Our food tour with Genny was perfect. It was like touring a city with a good friend you haven’t seen in awhile. We had more than enough to eat at great places, learned offbeat Venice history, and shared drinks and many laughs. I highly recommend her tour while in Venice.
Henny was very nice! Took us to the best places and als knew allot about the city etc. She gave us a good time and we where very happy we booked her. Booked her for another tour after the first one!
Genny was the best tour guide ever! Went the extra mile to make sure we had an amazing experience! She is extremely knowledgeable and personable.
Genny is the best guide ever! She was really nice and we had a great time eating lot of great venecian dishes. The tour its really recomended
Genny Carraretto was a fantastic tour guide. We had a ball eating our way through Venice and trying things we never would have known how to find on our own. What a gem of a afternoon! Highly recommend and would do it again.
It was a great afternoon spent with Genny. We could discover places where we will have never entered and get some comments about Venice and its history. We had amazing food and drinks !
Genny is the BEST! We instantly felt like we had been friends for years. She knows her city in and out and took us to all the coolest spots. We had 4 young teens with us and they even had fun! Genny is so fun and knowledgeable!
This was the perfect way to explore Venice. But the best part was exploring it with a local. Genny shared the insights, secrets and habits of the locals - and their choices of food and drinks, served by nice people, at the venues where the Venetians enjoy them. Only fussy eaters or Mr Greedy would need a meal after this tour! Our host was friendly, flexible and tailored the tour to our needs. Highly recommended.
Being shown around Venezia by Genny is like being with a friend you haven't seen in awhile. Besides being very flexible with our dietary preferences, Genny is personable, friendly, bubbly, happy, funny, and also familiar (she has lived in the US before). The tour itself was fantastic and heavenly for fans of cicchetti and delicious aperitivi e vini, but the best part was having Genny around to eat and drink with us...like a friend you've know for a long time. Grazie mille, Genny. Alla prossima!
Genny was our tour guide! She was absolutely amazing. It’s so worth the money and you get to taste so many dishes! Really enjoyed Genny’s company. Best part of our trip
Genny our guide was outstanding. So warm and friendly and very knowledgeable. Genny contacted us before the tour to make sure she accommodated any of our requirements. The tour, company, food and drink were fantastic. Lovely to experience local delicacies. I highly recommend this tour and Genny. Genny went that extra mile for us going above and beyond even beyond the tour she helped organise a gondolier. Thanks again what a great experience.
This food tour was so fun! Genny was so personable and kept us laughing. We learned so much about Venice and enjoyed the wonderful food!
Had a great time! The guide was great and well versed in the history and got to try a variety of different types of food and wines. Nice walk through the city as well. Highly recommend.
My favorite part of this experience was trying all of the foods Genny suggested. I was so excited to try new things and she was so friendly!
We had a wonderful time with Genny, she was informative, knowledgeable and for us which was important FUN. She has a great sense of humour which made learning about the beautiful city of Venice more enjoyable. She gave us real a insight to the city, with old and new stories. Thank you for making our family time more precious. Oh and we didnt mention the pineapple.......
Genny could not have been better! We experienced the streets and alleyways of beautiful & historic Venice, along with exquisite food and drink! What a great way to spend the day. Genny was totally knowledgeable and so personable, we felt like we were spending time with an old (young) friend! She was delightful and knew the streets of Venice well, we totally enjoyed her company. She also gave us some great recommendations for shopping and restaurants. We would highly recommend her to anyone and will be telling friends and family to look up Genny for a tour, great way to spend a day!!
Genny was wonderful. She truly knows Venice inside and out answering obscure questions from a history buff like myself with ease. She personally knows all the local restaurants/bakery owners that she brings you to and only picks the best. She has great tips and recommendations about anything you might want to do in Venice. Very easy to talk to and and exceptional tour guide; she obviously enjoys what she does! Highly recommend! Bill & Olivia
This young lady took on a task of showing Venezia to a very strange mix of individuals and their cultural levels.... but she found the hidden spots and provided a new experience to our friends from Germany and ourselves... not the same old tour, so much more.
We had a wonderful time. Genny was easy to talk to while walking around getting bits of info on the buildings, restaurants and culture along with eating some delicious food off the beaten path. Very pleased
We loved this tour! My husband and I love to be guided in eating local and it also helps that we eat all the things so we were very happy to take all of Genny’s food suggestions! We ate items we wouldn’t have ordered on our own and absolutely loved them. That, to us, is the benefit of a local food tour. Highly recommend for adventurous foodies or those who want to ensure they eat hyper local dishes.
Strongly recommend you reserve your food tour with Genny. We were a family of 4 with two teenagers. She introduced us to many good spots that were off the regular tourist area. The food was so delicious and we could try as much as we wanted. She also made sure our glass was always full with the different Italian beverages. She always provided us the background story behind each dish and restaurant.
Visiting places off the beaten track but perhaps best of all the gems of information Valerio gave us on Venice
Best tour ever! Every time I travel and go to a new city, I try to do a walking food tour, so I’ve been on many of them. Genny, by far, has been the best tour guide I’ve ever had, we never have had so much fun as we did with her. She took her time with us, it was a combination for tour, history tour, and interesting sites tour. We felt like we go to see a different side of Venice and eat the food the locals eat instead of touristy places we usually get stuck with. We cannot recommend her enough, we adored her and want her to come to Las Vegas so we can show her around!
Genny was a great host. Great personality, we really enjoyed the tour and the food. Would definitely recommend taking a tour with her.
I experienced a delightful evening with Genny. She is warm and funny and speaks English very well. She is very knowledgeable about Venice and I was introduced to fantastic food I wouldn't have known about if I was on my own. I highly recommend this tour for an unforgettable experience!
It’s easy to get stuck in the touristy parts of town. Valerio showed us some of the best places off the beaten path that really give you a sense of the food culture in Venice. He told us about some of the history too. Would totally recommend this!
Genny did a fabulous job of customizing the tour to my specific tastes while mixing in interesting historical facts about Venice. She has a wonderful personality and specializes in sharing hidden gems I wouldn’t have been able to find on my own. I would definitely recommend Genny if you’re looking to discover special authentic places in Venice.
This was a great tour experience all around. Great balance of walking through the not-so-touristy parts of Venice, tasting the local foods and a little bit of history related to the key things you pass during the walk. Our guide, Genny, was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. She gave us an experience we would not have been able to piece together on our own. I would recommend this tour to everyone interested in trying some of the amazing local foods and drinks.
The best part of this tour, and there were many great highlights was our tour guide, Genny. She was AMAZING, interesting, knowledgeable, fun and personable. After a few minutes, we felt we were strolling the small streets with an old friend. Come hungry and be prepared to walk. This tour gave us a taste (pun intended) of the way people who live in Venice eat and live. Lots (really, lots and lots) of great food and wine. If you're going to do this, try things outside of your comfort zone - like deep fried mozzarella sandwiches with sardines or fried shrimp still in the shell. Everything we ate was delicious. If you want pasta with red sauce - stay home and go to Olive Garden.
Fantastic food and cultural journey, so much fun!!! Genny was awesome and lovely. We enjoyed a variety of local dishes and drinks, a beautiful overview of Venice as well.
We had a really great time with Genny. We tried very good Italian food and had amazing conversations the whole time! We recommend it to see Venezia from a different angle. Genny gave great insights about the history and landmarks as well as tips for the upcoming days
Very nice private tour for cichetti, wine and attractions. We enjoyed the company of our guide Genny. Genny was very nice and gave advice and recommendations to our stay in Venice.
Our tour guide Genny was so knowledgeable on the local culture. She was friendly and the tour was amazing
This was the best tour we took the entire time we were in Italy, and one of our favorite parts of Venice. Genny was great and has become a friend to our family. I would recommend doing her tour ASAP when you arrive in Venice so you have an idea where to go for the rest of the trip. We visited almost every place from the tour at least one more time before we left. I can't recommend Genny highly enough. You will love this tour.
We had a wonderful tour with Genny! Lots of funny little insights and we tasted some typical venician snacks. Would definitely do it again!
My experience with Adair was exceptional and the highlight of my 3 days in Venice. I had travelled from Zurich to Venice to spend 3 nights in July 2020 when Europe was very slowly coming back to life. As a solo traveller, having Adair’s knowledge and experience as a local was even more enriching. We had a lot of fun together and I got to visit so many cute bars and trattoria’s. The best part was being taken to the places that serve real Venetian food and not pasta out of a jar! I would never have known this without her knowledge. Experiencing the culinary heritage of the town is quintessential to travel in Italy and she made this possible. She also took me to neighbourhoods that I wouldn’t have otherwise known about, and this set me up for my explorations on the following two days. Couldn’t recommend her enough! Tip: do it early in your stay so you can visit her recommendations during the rest of your trip. Three days in Venice was not enough for me, next time I will need more! Adair was bilingual in her native English and learnt Italian and Venetian.
Delicious treats, hidden gem bars and restaurants, and part of town you might never have explored. Adair did a wonderful job keep the pace casual while delivering a large abundance of information on Venice’s in general. This easy going American had transformed into a true Venician . You’ll love her energy and appreciate her knowledge base. Great afternoon in Venice!
