Itinerary

Day
1

Day 1: Coastal Arrival – Vancouver’s Natural Welcome

Arrive in Vancouver, where mountains meet ocean in one of the world's most naturally gifted cities. The day is yours to explore at your own pace — wander the cobblestones of historic Gastown, browse the boutiques and patios of Yaletown, or stretch your legs along the Stanley Park Seawall with the North Shore peaks rising across the water. Vancouver rewards wandering, whether your interest lies in food, culture, or simply watching the light shift over the harbor. However you choose to spend it, this is a gentle introduction to a journey that will carry you from the Pacific coastline deep into the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

Day
2

Day 2: Rivers, Peaks & Valleys – Vancouver to Kamloops by Rail

Board the Rocky Mountaineer early and watch Vancouver's coastline give way to the greenery of the Fraser Valley, then to canyon walls and river gorges as the train climbs into British Columbia's interior. Hell's Gate churns dramatically below in the Fraser Canyon, while the Thompson River carves a path beneath rock sheds and steep, layered slopes. The landscape transforms hour by hour — lush to arid, forested to sun-baked desert — a preview of just how varied this province can be. As evening falls, the train traces the shoreline of Kamloops Lake into town, closing a day defined by constant, cinematic change.

Day
3

Day 3: Into the Rockies – Kamloops to Jasper

The journey turns north and east today, tracing the North Thompson River toward the high peaks of the Continental Divide. Watch for Mount Robson — at 3,954 meters, the tallest summit in the Canadian Rockies — piercing the skyline through the Monashee and Cariboo ranges. Pyramid Falls tumbles into view before the train climbs over Yellowhead Pass and crosses into Jasper National Park, one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the Rockies. Wildlife sightings are common along this stretch, and the mountain air noticeably sharpens as elevation builds. The train rolls into Jasper by evening, delivering you into true mountain-town territory.

Day
4

Day 4: Jasper Unplugged – Explore at Your Own Pace

Spend the morning exploring Jasper at your own pace — a smaller, quieter counterpart to Banff, with its own devoted mountain charm. In the afternoon, a half-day sightseeing tour reveals the best of Jasper National Park: Patricia Lake's still, glassy waters, sweeping views from the Jasper SkyTram, and the postcard scenery of Pyramid Lake with Pyramid Mountain rising behind it. This is Rocky Mountain wilderness at its most accessible, with turquoise lakes, dense forest, and jagged summits within easy reach of town. Free time remains for shopping, dining, or simply soaking in the surrounding peaks before settling in for the night.

Day
5

Day 5: Icefields & Icons – Jasper to Banff via the Parkway

Few drives rival the Icefields Parkway, and today delivers its full spectacle — Bow Lake's impossible blue, the vast Columbia Icefield, Glacier Skywalk's glass-floored views, and the cascading drop of Athabasca Falls. At the Columbia Icefield, board an Ice Explorer for a ride onto the Athabasca Glacier itself, one of the most accessible icefields in North America, with lunch included at the Discovery Centre. The parkway's scenery builds steadily — glacier-carved valleys, hanging ice, and endless mountain walls — before a final stop at Bow Lake precedes arrival in Banff by late afternoon

Day
6

Day 6: Banff Bliss – Alpine Adventures & Town Treasures

A full free day in Banff opens up the town's best-loved experiences to suit your pace. Ride the gondola to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for sweeping views across six mountain ranges, soak in the historic Banff hot springs, or wander the lively streets lined with outfitters, galleries, and cafés. Wildlife adventures and guided outings can easily be arranged for those wanting to venture further afield. Banff strikes a rare balance between alpine wilderness and polished mountain-resort comfort, and today is built entirely around discovering which side of that balance appeals to you most.

Day
7

Day 7: Back Through the Rockies – Banff to Kamloops

Rejoin the Rocky Mountaineer for a westbound journey back through some of the most celebrated rail scenery in the world. The train crosses the Continental Divide, winds through the engineering marvel of the Spiral Tunnels, and threads through Kicking Horse Canyon before climbing Rogers Pass. A stop at Craigellachie marks the spot where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, tying the journey to the railway's storied history. Glacier-capped peaks give way gradually to lakeshores and open ranchland as the day progresses, with arrival in Kamloops timed for evening

Day
8

Day 8: Canyon to Coast – Kamloops to Vancouver

The final rail day retraces the transformation from interior to coast in reverse, moving from the arid landscapes of the B.C. Interior back through river canyons and pine forest toward the Cascade and Coast Mountains. Familiar highlights return with new meaning — the rock sheds along the Thompson River, the whitewater drama of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon — as the Fraser Valley's green fields signal the approach to the coast. The train completes its full-circle journey with an evening arrival in Vancouver, closing out a week defined by dramatic, ever-shifting scenery

Day
9

Day 9: Journey’s End – Departure from Vancouver

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and enjoy a private transfer to Vancouver International Airport for your journey home. Reflect on an incredible adventure through some of Canada’s most iconic landscapes—from towering peaks and glacial lakes to charming towns and unforgettable rail journeys. While your Western Canada experience comes to a close, the memories will stay with you long after you return home.
