Christian was a superb guide, took time to understand our individual interests and adapted the tour to emphasise those specific areas. So knowledgeable about Valparaiso and such a vibrant, interesting tour. Loved it all! Recommend doing the authentic tour as well as famous Valparaiso, they offered something different and were both fabulous.

Truly a most wonderful tour that gives you so much knowledge about the city, its history, its secrets, and its fantastic vibe. Christian was the best guide, super friendly and took the time to explain and introduce me to his culture, his friends and the lace he loves and grew up in. This is such a special tour I really really recommend. I also recommend visiting for 2 days, doing the tour on day 1 as an introduction and spend day 2 going back to the places you liked and do some shopping. There are great affordable boutique hotels.
Great seeing a combination of both how the locals live and the street art.
Fun tour. Catalina was a great guide. Learned a lot about history and arts. We have a nice lunch too
LOTS of walking up and down steps and hills - but the only way to experience the scenic views and artistic treats across a beautiful city. A great opportunity to see the everyday lives and activities that occur in a busy port city. Catalena was a knowledgeable, entertaining guide who willingly shared her love of Valparaiso.
Cata was superb! We were “puerteros” or locals, in the first half of the day and tourist the second. A highlight was exploring the fish market which was fascinating! Going to local squares and neighborhoods gives a view of the life of Valpo. We used all different kinds of transportation. Later seeing the murals, artists and seeing Cata’s friends were all very interesting. Lunch at a little empanada place and our rollercoaster ride were highlights. The pace was very good for young and older people. Of note, if you come in via cruise ship, you must go all the way around to get to the meeting place bc of the immigration building is in the opposite direction.
Felipe is a good, friendly, knowledgeable tour guide . Feel safe. Overcome the language barrier with the help of Felipe. Know much more about the authentic Valparaíso.
Felipe did an awesome job showing us his city He took us via train, minibus, funicular x 2 We saw a working fish market, street art, street artists studios, beautiful views and ended with a Pisco bar He even accompanied us back to the terminal to be sure we got back to the cruise ship on time. Highly recommend this tour
Valpo in 1 day: Authentic + Famous! Semi-private walking tour & public transport - I was fortunate to be the only "passenger" with Catalina who was very friendly and informative, taking me via tram to the fish Wharf and market and then journey across town via microbus, funicular, taxi and foot exploring the heart of Valpariso. It was great to meet the people of Valpariso and learn about the history of the city. Catalina was engaging and able to answer all my questions, on all topics from history to politics!! Catalina suggested a good place for lunch and I was able to sample a freshly caught fish dinner. Catalina knew many of the people across Valpariso having lived there many years and I was introduced to many workers and craftsmen. I would certainly recommend this tour and I thought it was very good value.

This is an opportunity to see and experience Valparaiso in a way that would be impossible without the services of a guide. You see every part of this great city and are chaperones on to all forms of public transportation in the process. Our guide Cata was charming and genuinely enthusiastic to share the city. She didn’t cut any corners and was very knowledgeable about the various stops. One of the best city tours I have ever been on having used aviator many times. If you read this review and don’t book you will have missed a great experience.
We did the Valpo in 1 Day: Authentic & Famous Semi-Private Walking Tour on December 29, 2025, and it was hands-down one of the best tours we’ve taken in Chile. Patatour truly delivers an authentic Valparaíso experience, and our guide Felipe made it exceptional. He is incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about Valpo — its history, culture, art, politics, and daily life. Felipe shared fascinating stories you simply wouldn’t get on your own, while seamlessly navigating public transportation and the city’s famous hills and funiculars. The pace was perfect, the group felt intimate, and Felipe made sure everyone was comfortable, engaged, and having fun. He was also great at pointing out hidden gems, street art, local spots, and the best viewpoints for photos (which you’ll definitely want — this city is bursting with color and character!). This tour strikes the perfect balance between iconic landmarks and real local flavor, giving you a deeper understanding of Valparaíso beyond the postcard views. If you want a meaningful, well-organized, and memorable way to explore Valpo — this is it. Highly recommend Patatour and especially Felipe — we’d book again in a heartbeat! Photos attached — they barely capture how special this experience was.
Cristian made us feel welcome and showed us the city through his eyes. He shared personal experiences and took us to an abundance of different neighbourhoods using local transit. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful experience. Best tour we have had during our first 3 weeks in South America.
Uses different forms of transport in Valpa. Lovely guide called Catalina. Really enjoyable day seeing Valparaiso.
Our last and only day in Valparaiso started out with a lot of rain. We requested our guide Katalina to start late until the rain let up. She was very flexible. And we had a wonderful tour when the sun came out. Since it was only two of us, she catered the tour for what we wanted, which was looking at graffiti, nice neighborhoods, and art galleries. We fell in love with Valparaiso. Even though there was a lot of walking up and down the hills. I would highly recommend this tour.
Amazing! I loved every minute of this tour. It was the best thing I did while in the Santiago Valparaiso region. The combination of the local areas and the tourist areas was a great mix and we went to a lot of places that sold gifts and artwork. I was the only person on the tour so it was a bit personalized.
We LOVED our tour with Danae! If you are visiting Valparaiso, you need to take this tour. Danae gave us an authentic, local, and well rounded understanding of the city. It was cloudy and cold on the day we went, and we appreciated that Danae tweaked our itinerary to make sure we could still see all of the sights and make the most of the gloomy day. Riding along all of the public transit is a highlight, as it gave us a good understanding of the rhythm and day to day life of the city, as well as empowered us to navigate it on our own! Danae had an incredible understanding of the history of both Valparaiso and the art we looked at. The pace of the tour was great, and done well so you don’t have to climb to many hills or stairs! Once we mentioned we liked art gallery’s and music, Danae made sure to incorporate stops into the trip, introducing us to the different artists and store owners as we went along. It changed the trajectory of our trip, and I don’t think we would’ve come to love Valparaiso so much if it weren’t for Danae. HIGHLY recommend! Pro tip: do it on your first or second day in town! We spent the following days retracing our steps and revisiting the places she recommended to us, stopping to shop and eat and wander.
Amazing and fun day. Cristian was an excellent guide with outstanding local knowledge. We loved the fish market tour, many murals, historic neighborhoods, walking and use of different types of public transport. Highly recommended!
This is a fantastic way to spend a day in Valparaiso. Our guide, Christian, was terrific. He was born and raised in the neighborhoods we explored on foot giving us unique perspective. The excursion is about 7 hours but included a long break for lunch at a great but reasonably priced restaurant. We covered a lot of ground on foot and various forms of public transportation. Total steps walked was about 7,500 ( 3.5 miles) but not strenuous. The street art was fascinating. Highly recommend this tour of you want to experience the essential Valparaiso up close. Do it! You won’t regret it
What a fabulous day with Cristian on our Valpo in One Day tour of Valparaiso. We couldn’t have asked for a more fun and exciting day seeing the sights in the city. The fish market and street art were our favorites but we saw a lot of things with great explanations! ! We took a funicular, trolley, small bus and train to see everything. Highly recommend this tour!
We were locals for the day in Valparaiso! Wide buses, trains, funiculars, trolleys to navigate this beautiful art filled town. Christian is a local who loves sharing his city. He was so kind, considerate knowledgeable. Fun stops for traditional food and drinks! Highly recommend.
Great. Catalina was a great tour guide. Good English and happy to answer all our obscure questions. Gave us a good insight into history and ordinary life in Valparaíso
Our cruise ship was late into the Port by approximately 4 hours yet our guide Pablo assured us he would be waiting for us when the ship would finally arrive - and he was. Took us on an informative walking tour of Valparaiso. Well spoken and well versed on the the local sites and customs. If you are visiting Valparaiso then I recommend you use Pablo as your guide.
This tour became more personal and engaging as the day progressed. We were encouraged to share our expectations and the tour delivered- five stars!!
Best tour ever what an amazing day. I’ve done a lot of Airbnb experiences, and this was one of the best. We truly felt like a local super engaging, and fun. I had a special request for my husband who’s goal it is to play his song’s for people every town he visits and Cristian made it happen at this amazing restaurant where we stopped for the best lunch, my husband was introduced by the owner and played two of his songs on his guitar :-) the whole day we felt like we were hanging out with friends at the end we visited his wife’s art studio which was such a highlight. We booked as a day trip from Santiago and took the Turbus recommended by Cristian very easy way to get there - we highly recommend! Do not miss it!
Very authentic, Cata is a great Guide - friendly, Well informed. Only for people that like to walk and want to know also about History. Also you should be interested in art and artisans. Sehr leads you to some interesting artisans. And tobawsome places and views
The guide Cata, was extremely passionate about our experience in Valparaiso. She gave the everyday experience & the tourists experience. She is patient and knowledgeable. The smaller group is also a better experience. Cata gave the trip direction and purpose.
I’m happy to have trusted all of the reviews because they’re a true testament of how amazing this tour is. The experience is unique; in the morning, you are submerged into local culture & way of life and in the afternoon you explore Valparaiso with a tourist point of view. It’s a long day but it went by quickly. One of the best tour curriculum I’ve experienced. Catalina was excellent! She’s articulate in English, very knowledgeable and passionate with what she does. She exudes energy and enthusiasm for her culture. She also knows a lot of people in her community; bus drivers, local artists, etc. I highly recommend this experience and strongly suggest you do this activity as soon as you arrive in Valparaiso in order to become familiar with the city’s neighbourhoods, markets, public transport, restaurant choices, etc.
We love Valpo! The people are friendly. There are so many great restaurants to choose from and customer service is always really good. I recommend Industrial Revolution- try the pot pie! And Birdie's for breakfast. Stop into the Pour House if you like micro-brews/IPAs. Beautiful city!
The guided tour of Valparaíso was truly a unique and unforgettable experience. Catalina, our guide, was absolutely excellent—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the history and culture of this vibrant city. She brought the colorful streets and stunning views to life with her stories and insights. A huge thank you to Catalina for making this tour so enjoyable and special! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Valparaíso.
My whole day was one of wonderment and information. Montserrat was just amazing as a guide and I thoroughly enjoyed my whole day. Montserrat communicated with me via messages right up until we met, which is very reassuring when you are in a foreign location with no real language skills. We laughed and shared MY experiences throughout the day. I loved all the different transport options..and I loved the mix of the history and the current bohemian vibe. It would rate as one of the best walking tours I have ever been on.
We saw many cultural sites on this tour. Our guide Christian is a native of Valparaiso with an excellent command of the English language. He has an intimate knowledge of the city and its people. He took us to both famous and off-the-beaten path places. We also enjoyed learning the history of each area, the native plants and regional cuisine. Highlights include riding the funiculars and other local transportation methods. We saw parts of the city unable to view by bus or car. By far, the most informative tour we’ve been on.
Cristian was a fabulous guide. We went to places only locals go and travelled on funiculars, micro buses, and taxis. A great experience! The meeting point at muele prat was good, but perhaps wifi could be made available there so foreign tourists can access WhatsApp which is how guides communicate with clients.
Great tour led by Isaac. Because I was solo for the first half, Isaac helped tailor the tour to my specific interests. He had a ton of local knowledge to share which made the visit more intimate, and gave me a sense of the "real Valparaiso." Truly a great experience.
We went on a tour with Christian (Authentic Valparaiso and Famous Valparaiso) with our family (two teenage kids). The tour lasted from 10 am to 5 pm and we had a great time. He took us to places where we would not have gone as “normal” tourists, but which were very charming and interesting (authentic part). Afterwards we took the famous part, which included the more traditional, but not less interesting spots in Valparaiso. Christian took care of us the whole day and it was one of the best travel experiences of our trip to Chile. We highly recommend PataTour.
I couldn’t have asked for a better tour of Valparaíso. Cristian was friendly, personable, and funny. He was also very patient when I tried to speak in Spanish, offering gentle corrections when needed. (I will say that his English is incredible though. You don’t need to speak Spanish to thoroughly enjoy this tour.) Beforehand, I worried that it was going to be long day of climbing hills, but it was perfect! We used funiculars and other types of local transportation to travel up the hills. He started the day by asking what I’m interested in and what I enjoy doing. Then he customized the tour to include those interests. We rode a few funiculars, went to a fish market, walked through some residential neighborhoods to get a feel for how Poteños live. He told me about the history of some of the larger homes. Chilean’s celebrate their independence this month, so, at my request, we spoke about that history. We also spoke about the coup and the dictatorship. He seemed prepared to answer any and every question I had. I was very impressed. If I ever come back, I would do this tour again. There is so much to learn! P.S. There were sea lions!
The Valpo in 1 Day tour with Cristian was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody who wants to get a flavour of life in Valparaiso . His anecdotes about growing up here really brought the place alive. He took us on Micro buses, Trolley buses , trains and the funiculars exploring many local areas. We had a fantastic day.
This is one of the best tours I've ever been on. Paula is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and personable. It was a more culturally authentic tour than most I've been on which I loved
I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour, and Paula was a superb guide. We traveled on various forms of transport and stopped at multiple points of interest around the colourful city that I would never have seen otherwise: the fish market, sea lions and pelicans were an unexpected highlight for me! Her choice of restaurant for lunch was also good: great food and views of the city. I highly recommend this tour.
we had a great tour with Christian. as a local he knew all the great spots and people. was very flexible in adapting the tour to our interests, showed us good restaurants as well. thank you very much!
Perfect day with Christian, our guide. Loved the tour around Valparaiso with the fish market, the sea lions, the train/bus/tram transport, the grafiti tour, lunch etc. and very flexible. Highly recommended. Thank you!
We very much enjoyed this great full day tour. Cristian did an awesome job getting us to leave like a local for a few hours, using public transportation and telling us about his experience leaving here. We enjoyed the fish market and its liveliness. The afternoon gave us the opportunity to discover street art in old Valpariso. Cristian was excellent at having us learn about artists and discover different areas of the city. We highly recommend this tour
Loved this trip ! We got to see some different areas of Valparaiso that we probably wouldn't have on our own. And the guide was very friendly and also knowledgeable. Beautiful city. Highly recommend !
The tour itself was flawless Paula was warm, engaging and knowledgeable, giving just the right amount of information. our only misgiving was the restaurant chosen for lunch. It was beautiful, but the food was somewhat pricey and probably the worst meal we have had in Chile. I had the grilled scallops, which didn’t taste particularly fresh, and my partner had the congor soup, with tough fish and not very good flavor. All in all, though, it was a wonderful day with Paula.
We took this amazing full day tour. It was a very good value. A highlight was the fish market which we reached by tram. Another highlight was the street art. The photo opportunities were endless! Our guide was knowledgeable and provided interesting commentary. If you want a picture of life in Valparaiso, this tour is for you and highly recommended.
We like local walking tours and Cristian certainly delivered. We walked the streets he grew up in and he shared stories of his life. We went on four transit systems and bought lunch at a great restaurant he suggested. Shopped a bit, stopped where we wanted and places he suggested. You won’t regret booking him.
À guided tour using all the local types of public transport that we would never have tried in our own. Such an original experience and fun! Small group and and a great choice of restaurant for lunch with a fabulous view over the city. Our guide Paula was informative, friendly and professional. Highlight among many great insights was probably the lively fish market!
My wife and I really enjoyed this walking tour with funicular, bus and rail transportation included. However, The best part of this tour was the a-la-carte lunch because we can decide what and how much food and drink to order individually unlike most tours with meals where the food is always a disappointment. A shout-out to Christian. The tour was well organized, never felt rushed and plenty of time for a meal in a nice restaurant. : ) : ) : )
Paula hosted me like a family member visiting her hometown. As a native “porteña” her pride in, and extensive knowledge of, the city was evident.
In many years of traveling, this was the best tour I have ever been on!! If you are in Valpo and don't spend a day exploring with Paula, you are missing out. It is such a treat to be welcomed into a beautiful and unique city by a true Porteño who has such a genuine love for all it offers. Paula went above and beyond for us, inviting us to discover and taste local foods at the market, admire gorgeous murals and then later meet their artists, and so much more. Paula, thank you for sharing your stories and your city—we had SUCH a fun day exploring with you, and we miss our BFF&E already! <3
