For our visit to Malta, we knew that we wanted to do this attraction. We decided to buy on the website might have been our mistake. The instructions on our reservation was to redeem our reservations for ticket. But when we went to the meeting place, there was no one or a kiosk present. We just talked to the hop on hop off bus driver. But he did not have any information about the harbor tour and told us to do the tour at this stop. The bus tour operated as expected. For the harbor tour, when we did arrive at the port, there were several kiosks and we passed at least 3 from the hoho company. Each one told us to walk to the next kiosk till we arrive at the one of the harbor tour. When we arrived. We were told our afternoon tour was cancelled due to weather. We did request for a refund online and waiting for a credit on our credit card. To our surprise, the guy at our hoho company kiosk did offer us a harbor cruise tour but with a different company for 20€ per person. I asked the about the water condition, and he told us that the tour is with a different company. From what we learned in Malta, they prefer us to buy from them in a kiosk and not online. Especially if we have additional questions.

We were told where you get picked up is where you will be dropped.unfortunately when we came to our stop point the bus did not stop!!! I had to rush down to ask driver to stop!!! His reply" YOU SHOULD HAVE RUNG THE BELL STOP" Not I'll stop now!! He drove on for another 200 metres before stopping!!! No apology just nasty reply!!!💩💩💩💩💩 2nd problem, the plug in points on 3 different busses did not work!!! Walking extra 2 miles from the drop off point is not my idea of a happy ending.
Good route which include a number of attractions. But unortunately the iformation system is of poor quality only works occasionally, doesn't talk about all the numbered attractions Drivers doesn't tell us where we were. No announcements. Buses were over booked and returned standing. Missed return hotel dropoff due to delays so had to take Bolt taxi.
Honestly, this was the worst experience of our trip and I wouldn't recommend it. Malta is simply too hot for this type of sightseeing, especially when you're sitting on an open-top bus for long periods. The attractions are quite spread out, so you spend a surprising amount of time driving around between stops rather than actually seeing things. We quickly realised that public transport is a much better option. The buses are efficient, get you around much faster, and are considerably better value. There are also plenty of Bolt taxis, which we found convenient and cheaper than Uber. My advice: save your money and use the regular public buses and Bolt instead. You'll see more, spend less time sitting in traffic, and avoid baking on the top of a sightseeing bus! ☀️🥵 For us, the Red Bus was definitely not worth the money or the time.
Genuinely a strange and disappointing experience overall. The commentary was sparse, there were very few passengers onboard, and the service was poor in several areas. In other destinations, the Red Bus stops are clearly marked, but when we boarded in Mahallia we weren't even sure we were standing on the correct side of the road. We hadn't pre-booked and didn't have any cash on us, but the driver kindly allowed us to board anyway. Unfortunately, we then spent the next 90 minutes seemingly driving past hotels and various roads with no obvious purpose. The service felt completely lifeless until we reached Paceville when a few more people joined us. The commentary was interesting when it was available, but it was so sporadic that after Valletta we stopped bothering with it. We eventually paid in Valletta, and the staff were kind enough not to charge for my daughter, which was appreciated. Due to the timetable, we only had around an hour in Valletta before boarding another bus to Mdina. This bus was in a poor state, smelled strongly of urine, and the driver seemed to be driving quite aggressively while taking a route that again appeared to wander all over the island. After visiting Mdina, we needed to make our way back. The next driver was friendly and checked where we wanted to get off, which was outside the Topaz Hotel so we could get the bus back to our accommodation. However, we were dropped off in what didn't feel like a particularly safe location. The bus at that stop wasn't due to leave for another hour, and the driver wasn't willing to help. Eventually another bus arrived and we boarded that instead. The driver and the three other passengers didn't seem particularly pleased to see us, but they at least got us close to our hotel before dropping us off at a busy roundabout, which wasn't ideal when travelling with a five-year-old child. As a hop-on hop-off experience, I can't recommend it. The local buses were cheaper, the staff were generally friendlier, and the overall service felt more reliable. The Red Buses themselves were old, tired, lacked air conditioning, and at times didn't feel particularly safe. Looking back, we would have been far better off using the local bus network and planning the day ourselves rather than spending most of it being driven around distant parts of the island and tourist strips with little explanation or value. Overall rating: Poor. The few positives, such as some helpful staff members and the free child ticket, were outweighed by confusing routes, long journey times, poor vehicle condition, and an overall lacklustre experience.
Awesome Rambo elevated the entire experience
We only did the bus ticket but it was horrific. The driver was rude and yelled “give me money” as soon as we got on the bus, and drove dangerously (and I’m not just talking about a bumpy journey - he had to slam his breaks constantly and so did cars around us which beeped at us). We were going to Valletta and it took two hours from Qawra, but we didn’t make it to Valletta.. the bus was so unpleasant we got off at Sliema and got a taxi home to avoid getting back on the bus. At one point, the driver came down to my seat yelling and put his hands on my phone! As a young woman this was frightening and I ended up becoming very tearful. €50 for 2 people.. just use bolt!
Horrible experience ! We have been sold the bus gets to every stops every 30 min ! It’s a lie. It’s actually random ! At Medina we had been waiting 1h10 !! The driver was at the stop and the bus too but the driver was told to wait as up to them there weren’t enough customers (we were a family of 6 just us..) .. don’t believe what they sell... As we had our cruise ship to catch we had to skip visiting even the Valetta center. Don’t book with them !! They lie and refuse leave as expected as per schedule they promote when selling. To add to it their audio guide hardly works. It breaks here and there.
I wanted to be able to give a better rating for this but of all the hop on hop off buses I've don't across the world this is by far the worst. The buses are not on time, or anywhere close to being on-time, the downstairs has no air con and is uncomfortably hot and the upstairs is unbearably hot in the middle July. There is no announcement as to which stop you are at so you have to follow closely on the map rather than enjoy the sights. Due to low hanging branches sitting on the left hand side of the bus is a hazard and get ready to duck! We lasted an hour from Sleima to Viterosa before having to call it a day because of the sheer heat. Would not recommend in Summer months.
We used the hop-on hop-off bus in Malta over two days and were extremely disappointed. Having used similar services in Madrid, Valencia and Rome, we expected a much better experience. The audio guides were unreliable throughout, with several headset sockets not working, meaning we had to keep moving seats to find one that did. On our second day, we waited over an hour in Valletta for a bus before giving up and booking a Bolt to the Catacombs instead. It cost just €14.80, was air-conditioned, and got us there much faster. At €24 per person per day, this service simply isn’t good value for money. To make matters worse, I submitted a formal complaint on 19 June and, despite allowing plenty of time, I still haven’t received any acknowledgement or response. The lack of after-sales customer service is just as disappointing as the tour itself. I wouldn’t recommend this service. Save yourself the time and frustration and use Bolt or public transport instead.
Today, we took the red line from Vittoria. My husband and I. Then we changed to the blue line. At 4:30, at Sliema, the bus stopped and we were literally kicked out of the bus. The driver said that our trip of the day was over and he had to wait for turists coming from the ship. The driver told us to take public transport to Valeta (that’s where we intended to get off. Our ticket said we could use the service from 8:30 to 6:00 pm. We paid for it. We were suddenly left behind strainded far from where we wanted to get off. The bus driver was rude. Do you ever give your employees special training of governance? How to work with diversity ? The driver told us to take public transportation. We did. Super crowded and we are over 60. The first driver was also not friendly at all. Besides, on the top floor of the bus, the hand rail was falling. All the turists who were up on top floor had a hard time to come down. Dangerous. Do you have your buses maintained regularly? Doesn’t look like it. It was a very disappointing experience.
Did the HopOn HopOff bus as wanted to go from the cruise port to Aquarium. We asked how long it would take to get there on the North route and was told 1 and half hours and 40 mins to return to ship. We paid 25 euros each and had a 5 minute walk to get the bus. The bus headed off and after 45 minutes it stopped for a 10 minute break at the craft village. At this point we asked the driver how much longer it would be to get to the aquarium and was told it would be 1 and half hours. We told him that we were told that was the time from port to Aquarium but he said it is 2 and a quarter hours there and 1 hour 15 minutes back to port from there. We got off the bus at the next stop of Mdina, wondered around and then waited for another bus to take us back to port, having been told they come every 20 minutes. 30 minutes passed and still no bus so got taxi costing 40 euros, to take us back to the port. So in all, we were miss informed of the time it takes to get around and then how often buses turn up and ended up costing us more, due to having to get taxi back to port. I DO NOT recommend this Hopon Hopoff bus tour.
Despite of weather conditions, the trip was really nice. Reza and the crew did a great job
I bough a ticket on their Hop-On Hop-Off bus for me and my family. We got off on Blue Grotto station, and was planning to catch the last bus at 16.55pm back to our hotel in Sliema. We were waiting at the pivk up point from 16.45pm, but the bus didn't show up. As I was told by the operator on the phone, the bus was already gone. No compensation, no support was offered whatsoever. Not recommended at all!
Whilst the harbour cruise was excellent, the hop on/off bus tour which we did the following day was disappointing. Unlike other countries bus tours, due to the distance of the route including going to hotels at one end of the island, you can only really visit one or two sites at most. There are two routes, but buses only run every hour for each one. There are only two stops in Valletta, and it was not clear that we were at the correct location. Unfortunately on the day of our trip the road was closed for a procession, which meant the bus did not arrive and there was no communication. After waiting for ages, I phoned Customer Services, but was unable to speak to anyone. Fortunately, a guide from another operator who was at our location told us where to go for the other pickup site in Valletta. I would add that I am not sure why we were given headphones as there was little information provided regarding the local landmarks.
Awful service , left the ship at 9 am , got off at Mosta , looked round waited about 50 mins for next bus , got off Medina , looked round , waited a while for bus , stayed on bus as we were afraid of getting stranded, back on ship 5pm
Great trip and great stuff!!!!
In principle it’s a great way to see the island, but even with priority bus lanes, the hold ups are dreadful. If I had prior knowledge of this, I think I’d have saved my money and hired a car and avoided the places I wasn’t interested in seeing. It’s very crowded and it’s the same for every bus, which is quite annoying. Some of the headphone sockets don’t work and if you’re downstairs, the view is blocked by advertising stickers.
First of all it seemed expensive but because you got 3 experiences on 1 ticket we decided to do it. Well the bus takes a stupidly long time to get round the island and you seem to be driving around pointless places. I think we were on the bus for 3.5 hours to do the red route!! As well as this the buses are very infrequent with only 1 stop per hour so If you hop off you only get an hour at the place you stop or have to forfeit being able to do the rest of the tour because they also stop early, especially the red route. And if you want to fit both in on your day ticket you have to catch one bus at 8am and ride the bus round catch the other middle of the day and ride around all day without getting off!! To top it all off, they told us we can use our harbour cruise tickets up to 3 days after we bought them. When we went to use them they refused us on board because the cruise started at 12:30 and our ticket was scanned at 11:05 3 days ago… so got onboard and because our ticket had expired an hour 10 minutes before boarding they tried to charge us €40!! After spending €160 for the Gozo tour (which was not worth the money) and the bus tour we said we weren’t paying it and got off. My top tip for Malta is the public transport it’s very frequent and can buy a weeks pass for €27 which is unlimited use on any buses. Much better can go further and work to your own agenda. This company is a rip off and absolutely wish we didn’t spend the money we did with them.
The bus did not follow the schedule we were given for the tour. The first bus we boarded was completely overcrowded, with no available seats. Later, when it started pouring rain, people from the open upper deck tried to come downstairs, but there was no space since the lower level was already packed with standing passengers. We had no place to sit, and it was unclear how to connect to the tour guide system, as the driver did not have any earphones available. The bus itself was very dirty and had an unpleasant smell. The driver was unable to answer basic questions, such as where we could sit, whether earphones were available, or if anything could be done about the situation. Since we had to stand the entire time, we noticed that the bus was running on reserve fuel, with a constant warning sound indicating it needed refueling. Several warning lights were also on (including brakes and oil). The driver was wearing a raincoat, and there was a transparent sheet placed over the steering wheel because the bus was leaking. At every stop, more people tried to board, but the bus was already full. When they asked when the next bus would arrive, the driver had no answer. Overall, this experience was absolutely not worth the money.
We enjoyed our time. If you book, book the first appt of the day so that you have time to hop off at least once to see the sites and again for lunch.
Very excelkent and amazing Proffessional staff enjoying talking to them
Nice trip - well organized - friendly stuff
Good experience. Got too see lovely sights. Could do with a little more direction but good overall
hospitality was great! would recommend !
Commentary very limited, even worse when over 50% of seats don't have audio working. Had wait for a bus change after driver smashed nearside mirror. The worst hop on ever. Informed customer service, they were happy they had delivered a quality service. Be warned use other providers Had to get cab back as didn't know where we were! Total joke
If you want to experience Malta at speed this is the trip for you.. We zipped past heritage sites, towns and villages at speed. You're so busy holding on for dear life that it's difficult to pay attention to the views around you. While the weather didn't help.. As it was raining for alot of the journey, the downstairs windows needed a good wash so that we could actually see out! Plus, in the event of an emergency DO NOT use the emergency exit as it is bolted shut! A trip that will get you from A to B but blink and you'll miss your stop!
The title comes from my notes. We only did the bus section and basically found it to be too long between buses. The rough timetable was just that, rough! At one stop we waited over 30 minutes for the bus to arrive, and no answer or reason from the driver? So that was it we decided to stay on till our return to Valletta. Had a lovely sunny day to enjoy so a bit disappointed on the scheduling. The ticket needs to be 48hrs like a lot of other Cities plus with the size of Malta it's doable.
Save yourself the trouble Totally disorganised and quife abrupt and rude. If you wish to see Gozo and Comino find another way .
I booked a tour with iSee Malta and paid the full amount upfront. The tour was later cancelled by the company, yet they have refused to issue a refund despite repeated reminders and direct communication attempts. Their blatant disregard for customer rights, payments, and legal obligations is completely unacceptable. I have now lodged a formal complaint with the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) and will pursue all available legal avenues if necessary. This company’s behavior demonstrates a serious lack of professionalism and ethics. I strongly warn anyone considering their services: do not trust iSee Malta — engaging with them could result in financial loss and legal disputes.
Great way to see the sights of Malta. Various routes (blue/red etc) each covering a different part of the island. We undertook the blue route. There is also a hop on/off for Gozo. Highly recommended
the driver did not respect the schedule and did not stop at the bus stop. We made a stop in Mgarr and the last bus was scheduled to stop at 17:30. Ignoring the fact that the bus stop is over 1 km from the main tourist attraction, I mention that, on the way back to the bus stop, it was raining heavily so we entered a cafe, with our eyes on the street. 6 minutes before the scheduled time, the bus passed by without stopping at the bus stop. We got out and waved to him but he probably didn't see us,
Purchased online a few days prior to arrival. No clear instructions on hop on hop off locations. Bus late Downloading instructions could be made more clear No info on where to pick up the “free” Harbour tour.
Just the worst bus tour experience you could want. Busses never showed up on time, and always filled to capacity with people standing. Staff open to corruption excepting cash rather than checking tickets. Bus drivers stopping half way through for a cigarette break. Honestly it's abysmal and needs to be rethought. Routes are too long and dont show too much, and the later buses never showed for us despite waiting 30 minutes. Do not go! You might find it easier to rent a car instead
Horrendous, avoid like the plague! Avoid Maltas own!!! Citysightseeing ones looked less crowded! Malta sightseeing was over subscribed and with buses only every hour, you get too long in certain places and then the main tourist attractions have been chaos this week with not enough buses for the number of people using them. Lots of headphones not working, dirty buses, pushing and foul language to scrabble for a space where you might have standing room only. At the end of the day you risk being stranded if the last bus is full. Bus stops are not marked anywhere so it's a case of get back on where you got off which is no good if you wanted to walk between stops. Worst hop on/off bus tour ever experienced and we've done a lot! As I say City Sightseeing buses looked like they may have been better, we booked at a kiosk in resort (PS Blue Lagoon is also VERY commercialised)
The red route was very long, 3 hours. Not the most interesting route. Uncomfortable seats and audio worked spasmodically. Go the short yellow route
We did 2 hop on hop off bus tours from sliema going north and south. We were helped by Fiona at the St. Azur hotel and she was fantastic, with her advice and knowledge of what to do and where to go, highly recommend her for all forms of advice. Phil and Vicki Smith
We had cancelled this tour, so never actually did this tour . So no review or any details really apply at all
Bought tickets, the bus arrived to pick us up outside the Santana hotel, there is no sign to say it is a stop, so got on the bus for the North route, I don’t even really know where to start with this, I’ve been on hop on/hop off tours before and they go around and you see some of the sights, really didn’t see anything, I think my highlight was seeing the pawpaw trees from the jungle book, It seemed to go on forever then we entered what can only be described as a building site, I felt so unsafe there were cranes with stuff going over our heads and ppl working high above us no safety and on the other side a sheer drop where they had excavated to build down the way too. Totally terrifying. Lots of ppl on the bus moaning as we then were on the motorway and the breeze kept everyone cool but it was just hours of sitting sweating and didn’t want to get off as many of the places like the aviation museum and the golden beach appeared to be in the middle of no where.
We were in Malta in September-the shoulder season. I don’t know if the same timetable etc is run all year but it was totally inadequate for the number of tickets sold. The minimum wait between buses was 30 minutes but at some stops up to one hour. When the buses came they were overcrowded - generally with people standing. The commentary wasn’t operating in all buses and if you were seated in the rear seats downstairs there is no where to plug in to listen to commentary. The staff were rude. We paid 25 euro each for tickets intending to get on and off at several places - impossible to do as the timetable finishes early and the buses were too infrequent. We only got off once but were still out all day. Our second bus was hell on earth - Apparently an earlier bus had broken down and therefore it was more than overcrowded. However, curiously we kept seeing an empty bus (not the broken down bus - we saw that too) - with the driver snoozing on the back seat - then that empty bus with the same driver beat us to a stop down the route - still empty with doors firmly closed. When the bus was over full future passengers were forced to wait - for goodness knows how much longer - in the sun and heat. There are no shade shelters at many stops. The driver turned off the commentary and was yelling out - no Pa - the upcoming stops. There is no way people upstairs could have heard. If no one responded he didn’t stop. We witnessed at least one older couple who missed their stop and were put off the bus unceremoniously in the middle of nowhere 2 stops further on. Would be much better value using bolt, especially if there are a few of you.
Avoid, my partner and I had a wasted day last week in Malta, the bus spent more time stopped than moving, half an hour at the cruise terminal alone, in the blistering heat, no choice but to move down stairs, then no air conditioning, everyone giving out, we went another few stops had to get off as we needed water, food and bathrooms at this stage (5 hours on a bus at this stage).. I felt physically ill by the time we got off the bus and we had not completed the Red or Blue routes, ended up getting the public bus back to our hotel!!.. There was no maps and we had to move a few times for get a headphone system that worked, very poor information anyway.. Worse open top bus experience ever, AVOID AVOID AVOID
Awful, awful, awful. The wait time between buses is supposed to be 30 minutes (when you step off) but in reality it took a minimum of 50 minutes.
Great! amazing i really liked it. Enchanting crew and amzazing experience I really recommend it, specially with friends!
This tour left me disappointed for a couple of reasons. Firstly very poor or limited commentary. It was advertised as a 60 min tour and we were on the bus for over 3 hours. This meant we were exhausted, needed a bathroom and cool water and in addition we could not go on the North tour or the harbour cruise. Don’t advertise your tours incorrectly.
Shambolic Misrepresentation My husband and I often use Hop on Hop Off buses when visiting a new place and apart from this tour have always them very good. On July 4th we were in Malta for 1 day as we were stopping off from a Mediterranean cruise. On the port a representative from I see Malta was selling tickets for their Hop On Hop Off bus ( it did not include the harbour cruise). We, along with an almost full bus set off from the port at 0915 on what we were led to believe was a tour of the island with full commentary. This transpired to be an example of false advertising. There was no commentary due to some technical error. There were many very angry passengers on the bus who wanted to return and board a bus where there would be a commentary but the driver would not listen. I actually think he could not understand people. He merely said “ my job is to drive” and drive he did! We had no idea where he was taking us and we received no explanation of things we passed. After about 1 hour we all got off the bus very disgruntled and disappointed. We were only in Malta for 1 day and it was too late to join another trip. We intended to voice our concerns when we returned to the port (having had to make our own way back) but the ISEE Malta reps. we’re no longer there. Our 1 day in Malta was a great disappointment due to this experience. On our return I wrote a letter to the firm outlining our grievances. They did not see fit to apologise but acknowledged that there were problems with that tour and said as “ a gesture of good will” they would refund half the fare. I believe this to be an insult and despite a reminder from myself I have yet to receive it. I think this represents very poor customer service. An apology goes a long way. I would not recommend this firm.
I was genuinely concerned with how roadworthy the first bus we got on was. It made an awful noise when accelerating and the general state of the inside of it made me question whether it was adequately maintained - see photo of one of the seating areas below. Some of the stops got missed by the driver and information about which stop passengers were at was patchy. A microphone was left on which was catching the wind on the top deck making for an unpleasant loud noise on the lower deck. It would have been sensible for the buses to say which route they were running on to avoid confusion. As a result a large queue formed for one of the buses at Mdina only to find out it was a yellow route bus - I had thought only blue and red routes were offered and this confused lots of people. The stop in Mdina was also not appropriate, as the wait grew for a bus people were queuing alongside a horse and cart on the road - an unsafe practice. It was clear a deal had been struck with at least one of the cruise liners which is fine, but when you do that you need to put on more buses. T he drivers were clearly stressed and one of them was unnecessarily rude to passengers. Sadly we have already booked a trip with the same company to Gozo tomorrow and we already have a feeling of dread about it. These issues are all easily resolvable. Pull your socks up I See Malta, the other companies certainly look to be providing a better service.
Bus is filthy. No air conditioning and drivers did not know where we needed to get off to go on harbor cruise. Audio system does not work in many of the seats. We never got to go on harbor cruise. Worst hop on hop off bus we have ever been on.
On June 27, I bought 4 tickets for the HOP ON HOP OFF bus on the Northern Line. Two of the buses had no air conditioning — is that normal??? Two hours in the heat each way — it’s unbearable! The technical condition of the buses is poor, the drivers are unfriendly, they announce the stops in broken, unclear English, and the microphone is full of noise. I am very disappointed with this trip. If the air conditioning doesn’t work, customers must be informed in advance!!! The agents from OASIS TRAVEL (Preluna Hotel, Sliema) took the money and didn’t mention that the buses had no working air conditioning! It feels like fraud and deception, misleading customers. No one replies to emails or answers phone calls. Very poor service, unacceptable attitude towards customers! I do not recommend this company — don’t waste your time and money!
Everything was perfect. You get adviced on the cruise, which places you should visit. Staff is very friendly.lovely holiday with i see 4
Bought it in advance…could not find easily a bus stop…when i finally got on one of the buses i realised that there was no airconditioning in the lower deck of the bus…people already sitting there were sweating uncontrollably…so i stepped out and never took the ride because there was no chance to survive the ride with 35 degrees celcium and 75% humidity…and i was wondering how do you expect people that do not want to sit to the upper deck to endure this…
