Authentic Valencian Paella Cooking Class

We had a fantastic time with Raffa and Juli at Raffa’s country house in a small town outside Valencia, Betara. Raffa is passionate about the correct way to cook paella. The results were delicious. We also met a number of convivial people in the group. The entire experience, except for initial confusion about a pick up location, was terrific.

This was such a great experience for our family (parents and adult children)! The location was amazing! The instruction was filled with practical and cultural information! The food was excellent! It will forever be a favorite family memory.

This class was so fun. The tour guide, Julieta, was an absolute delight. Rafa, the chef, was very kind, knowledgeable, and funny. Youyou are shuttled from the city roughly 40 minutes into the countryside where you get to spend the day laughing, learning to cook paella, sipping refreshing sangria wine beer or soft drinks, and taking in the beautiful scenery of the orchard.

This was the highlight of our trip to Valencia. Rafa and Julieta were amazingly friendly and helpful and made us feel like we were at home. The paella turned out fabulous and was by far the best meal we ate during our entire trip. We didn’t want to leave and I would recommend this to anyone who visiting Valencia!

What a fabulous experience. We were picked up in Valencia and driven out to beautiful countryside. The cooking experience was both fun and interesting. The food and drink served was great prior to the paella being ready - and that was also delicious. Rafa and his team were wonderful and very entertaining. Great day - really recommend.

We had a wonderful time. Well organised and plenty of laughs and information. Juliet contacted us the day before with a reminder of our meeting point. The Paella cooking course is a little way out of the centre but all transport arranged and it was good to see some of the countryside. Rafa is brilliant at the cooking of Paella and offers loads of additional information. What was also nice was it was a small group around 10 of us so sitting down to eat our cooked Paella was liking sitting at a table with friends. Would highly recommend.

What an absolute joy to spend these hours with our tour guides, along with Rafa and his team. Communication from Julieta was spot on and appreciated. Meeting point clearly explained. The drive to Rafa’s home was comfortable and Julieta conversed about what we were passing while being a very safe driver. We were warmly welcomed by Rafa as soon as we pulled up, entered his patio, offered cold beverages and proceeded up into his garden to pick our fresh rosemary to be used in our paella. This was the perfect paella cooking class, out of the city in the beautiful countryside near Parque Natural de la Albufera. Rafa was a perfect host, an excellent step by step instructor and the best Paella Master…WOW WOW WOW!!! As Rafa speaks his native Spanish, Julieta interpreted everything he said and was able to carry out his sense of humor. They were a perfect team and enhanced the experience. We were all welcomed in to Rafa’s home just like we were truly his guests and even his friends. Rafa you are a gem! The cold beverages, tapas, PAELLA, Sangria, fresh made cake by Rafa that morning, watermelon and after dinner wine were all excellent. Rafa’s team moved about seamlessly, clearing plates, filling wine glasses and scrubbing our Paella pans. This experience was truly unforgettable and 100% worth it. Thank you Rafa and Julieta for your knowledge and humor.

Our host ( Rafa - sp.? ) was very hospitable, charming, knowledgeable funny!! His translator, Julieta, was a good translator, did not interrupt Rafa, was kind and engaged. The added portion of making sangria was a pleasant surprise and addition.

WOW WOW WOW! Highlight of our trip for sure. Rafa and his team made this cooking class so much fun and informative. We had SUCH a good time learning to make Paella, Sangria, and enjoyed some snacks/apps as well. They are. Generous with their time and Rafa is an amazing teacher. My rather and I agreed that this was easily the best part of our trip to Spain. We now plan to always incorporate some type of cooking class in our trips in the future. Lastly, Rafa’s home is amazing - it’s’ a beautiful backdrop and numerous people from the group who did city cooking classes recommended this one over all of the others. Glad I chose right! Julieta and Rafa made our experience great from start to finish. Everything is efficiently run and high on but hospitality and fun. The pick up and drop off was on time and we were transported in comfort to a lovely setting. We had an extremely educational, Authentic and fun Paella class with drinks and tapas provided, and your own Paella to enjoy when made. Rafa is a knowledgeable Chef with passion for his subject and conveys it with great enthusiasm. Julieta translates him clearly and we understood everything perfectly. Everyone at the event had a great time and we made friends along the way. The Paella was plentiful and delicious. It was an excellent experience that i would recommend highly. We had a great day! Rafa and Julietta were wonderful. What a pleasant environment to be at Rafa’s country home. You could smell the orange trees and the rosemary. Rafa was a wonderful and entertaining host and Julietta the ideal translator. The paella lesson was authentic and hands on. We were a group of four and had the pleasure of making our own paella under Rafa’s careful eye. It was a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Highly recommend. And did I mention that the result was delicious?

What an amazing experience! Julieta and Rafael were so amazing. Chef Rafael is so funny and made the experience a memory I will always treasure. You feel like you’re at home and the surrounded by beautiful orange trees. The paella honestly was just a bonus (and it was AMAZING), meeting people and interacting with Rafael and Julieta and the other people attending was the best.

This was SUCH a special experience. The location was perfect and it was only a short drive from Valencia. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to do a cooking class. Arturo and Julietta were wonderful. Rafa was a true joy. We loved our time with him in his home.

I purchased this for my brother and his partner. He is a know it all, who is difficult to please. I called him after this experience and he absolutely LOVED it. The person who led it was fun and sociable; the paella lesson was great; the snacks, wine and sangria were excellent; and most of all, the group was friendly and ready to have a great time. I had done this cooking class last year, and I wanted him to experience it too. I highly recommend this program.

The experience was freest because it was a small group and there was more personal attention to all participants. Rafa was indeed a master at his craft and made it fun to learn as well. His assistant Juliana deserves praise too for her attention to the group.

We thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Rafa was a very generous and entertaining host. He opens up his beautiful home outside the city to those that want to truly experience the authentic tradition of making paella. While the paella was simmering we enjoyed some wine and tapas - the hummus was delicious. Once we learned how to properly eat paella we got to enjoy our creation with some sangria. Excellent experience! The chef opens his house and we cooked paella outside. They also provided appetizers drinks and dessert. The food was amazing! Definitely recommend!

The pick up point was easy to find (we walked from the cruise ship). The kitchen in the orange grove was stunning. We all had the best time. It was a highlight of our trip. We would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful day in the countryside of Albufera, learning to make traditional paella. All we can say is, wow! wow! wow!, the paella was wonderful, as was the entire experience.

This outing was AMAZING!!!! We were on a 10 day cruise in Portugal and Spain and THIS was our favorite by far. Rafa was so much fun….entertaining and enlightening. You must go!

This cooking class was SO much fun and definitely the highlight of our València stop! Rafa was an exceptional host and very highly organized. Pickup and drop off, appetizers, beverages, drinks and desserts were all beyond great. The staff is incredibly friendly and the paella was authentically delicious! We have had the absolute best time learning and cooking traditional paella today. The entire experience was perfect, accessible and the end results soooo delicious! It was such a a joy to be invited into Rafa's house to learn all about true paella (everything else is just rice and stuff!) and to get to cook and eat such a lush lunch. The experience was beautifully designed and executed, beginning with an engaging introduction by Rafa on the history and cultural significance of paella. His charming country home in Corbera—just a short distance from the Albufera rice fields, where paella is said to have originated—offered the perfect setting. Rafa and his team masterfully guided us through the deceptively simple yet detail-rich process of making an authentic paella. While it simmered, we enjoyed a relaxed moment with delicious appetizers, refreshing sangría, and warm conversation, all while soaking in the views and fresh breeze. Rafa was funny, thorough, and genuinely passionate about sharing this piece of Valencian tradition. We left with full hearts, full bellies, and all the recipes to recreate the magic at home.

This class was so much fun! We have been to many cooking classes together but this was truly the best - much more than just "how to cook something." Rafa took us to his family home in the beautiful countryside. He and his team were so kind, engaging and funny! We learned about the history of paella and how to make it authentically. Gracias Rafa! This was our first time in Valencia, and since I love cooking, it was only natural to look for a paella cooking class. But we wanted to avoid the typical classes held in commercial kitchens - they can feel a bit sterile and impersonal. I was hoping instead to find something more intimate, ideally hosted by someone who isn’t a professional chef. That’s when I came across Rafa, and I’m so glad I did. He’s incredibly passionate about his paella and, on top of that, absolutely hilarious - so the whole experience felt like a cooking class and stand-up comedy show combined! The class took place outdoors at his home, about 25 minutes’ drive from central Valencia. Being in someone’s home, surrounded by orange trees, made the whole experience feel warm, authentic, and memorable. In fact, it turned out to be one of our favourite travel experiences anywhere in the world. We had the option of making either the traditional Valencian paella or a seafood version, and we chose seafood. Honestly, it was the best paella my husband and I have ever had - and we’ve eaten our way through many restaurants across different countries! Rafa’s seafood paella was unmatched. We also made our own sangria with Rafa’s guidance, snacking on cheese and chorizo while the paella cooked. All in all, it was a fantastic, one-of-a-kind experience, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Valencia. To Rafa, WOW WOW WOW!
