Absolutely a must if one has the day for it. Wonderful landscape and not a difficult trek. The lake was enchanting to say the least. The guide Josephina was absolutely amazing. Super friendly, knowledgeable, very accomodating and just a siperb personality overall. Made out hike easy and such a pleasure. Lunch at the Lake was also excellent Water and hot drinks were also provided. Overall, a marvelous trip and would highly recommend.

Itinerary
The Laguna Esmeralda is one of the most impressive natural destinations in Tierra del Fuego. Surrounded by a majestic landscape of mountains and Tierra del Fuego forests, its name comes from the emerald green color of its waters, which reflect the purity and serenity of the environment. The trail to the lagoon is a unique experience for lovers of trekking and nature. Along the way we also see the beaver dams and learn about the history of the beaver, an introduced animal, and its current impact on the ecosystem. We come across various birds representative of the environments we will be crossing. Finally, after a pleasant walk, we arrive at the incredible Laguna Esmeralda where you can admire its striking blue-green color due to its glacial origin. Here we take a break. We will have time to take photos, walk along the coast of the lagoon and regain energy with a delicious picnic on the shores of the lagoon and then return on our way to the city.

The trip to Laguna Esmeralda was spectacular. Great organization by Explore Tierra de Fuego and their guide, Carlos. An unmissable trekking experience!
Great easy hike makes you experience what you imagine Patagonia is like. We went in early spring so the entire hike was very wet and muddy so I would highly recommend leg gaitors and water proof gear as you will definitely get mud on you. Also the temperature changes all throughout the hike as you go up the mountain and descend into valleys so bring waterproof gear and layer. The lake was still frozen so you couldn’t see the green color but it was still worth the excursion.
This was a nice easy trek to the lake. In the winter the lake is frozen however the landscape is still beautiful!
the argentijn to detail behoren , suriname and after the trip surpassed our expectations. the trip overall was amazing and we really emhpyed our trekking to the fuegian valleys!
Great guide who took us the “hard” way up and the easy way down. Great knowledge of guide and sandwich was lovely.
I had a great time with my guide Fran! He selected a route off the beaten track whenever possible to avoid other groups. So we could enjoy the nature more calmly and without rushing. Fran explained a lot about plants and animals along our way. He also shared how it is living in Ushuaia as a local.
It was an awesome experience. The guide (Juanse) was very knowledgeable and detailed in explaining the sights along the trek.
Thank you Violet for your patience and company, it was a lovely trail and view!
This trek was very good. Our guide, Violet, was fantastic and very helpful. Our group was small which aided hiking and communication. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. You should book this excursion and request Violet!
Beautiful scenery. The trail is muddy and slippery which is why I thought the guide was very prudent in making sure all participants had appropriate clothing, shoes, etc. Otherwise the trail is quite easy to manage and not very challenging. The views are wonderful. The guide was extremely knowledgeabl, and I appreciate that she was local to the area.
A moderate level hike with some challenges. Beautiful scenery. A very engaging guide. A nice sandwich.
Customer service is incredible! Franco, our guide, was amazing and made the whole experience to Laguna Esmeralda unforgettable, rain and all! If it's raining for you, don’t cancel! Dress for the conditions and go, it's so worth it! Lunch was very good as well, the sandwich is a meal, hot drink and a tasty dessert! Thank you Explore Tierra del Fuego!
It was amazing! A beautiful hike to a gorgeous spot! Our guide Juan was so great, knowledgeable, and encouraging! We had the best group and really bonded a lot on the trail! Highly recommend choosing this adventure!
Great time. Emi was our guide and she was awesome. Knowledgeable and funny. She kept our group tight and made sure everyone was safe and having a good time.
This is a moderate hike both in distance and steepness. We went on a "dry" day in February. It had not rained in several days and the trail was dry and the muddy spots were small and few. The entire character of this hike would change with recent rain or snow--then expect mud and lots of it. The scenery is beautiful and the lake is cold and green. Dress in layers and expect windy conditions. Our guide kept a good pace and used rest breaks as teaching moments. It was a very enjoyable experience!
Great hiking, easy, excellent guide
We had a great 5-6 hour experience. The office was only a short walk from the cruise shop doc. Our guide, Julie, was great. Ask for her!
It was a beautiful walk through local forest to a gorgeous glacial lake, with stunning mountain views. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.
Great hike. We'll worth the effort to see such a beautiful place. The guide was very good, but I wish we would have taken a few breaks on the way back. It was definitely hard on the knees with all the rocks and roots going down hill. Would definitely recommend this tour, but beware it is definitely a little more difficult than the description says.
We had a great experience. We had a professional bilingual guide, very knowledgeable. We also took it easy, going at a reasonable speed for those who couldn’t go too fast. Know that there’s a lot of mud on the trails. Be prepared.
We were given trekking poles (1 or 2 depending on your preference) which I found helpful to steady yourself on the hike. It starts easy and flat, then you're climbing up through the tree line and it was rather steep in places but you can take your time and stop to rest. It's flat again crossing the peat bog (on wooden platforms) but then there is a very steep part just before reaching the lagoon. Your guide will assist you if needed in certain challenging spots and lend you a hand. The lagoon is beautiful and you spend up to an hour sitting and eating a sandwich they've given you and an alfajores cookie. You can also have coffee or tea to warm you up. Be aware that depending on the weather, you might get chilled sitting here so bring layers. The hike back is much faster as you're not stopping for photos like on the way in. Overall, it was about 2 hours in and 1.25 hours back. I'm not in great shape and while challenging in the uphill portions, was able to do it just fine with occasional stops to catch my breath.
The tour was well organized. The guide knew how to answer & explain every question that came to my mind and even more. Both the guide and the driver were charming and gave tips beyond the trip itself. And most importantly, the views were amazing! Even in relation to Patagonia, they were a pleasant surprise. I Highly recommend it!
Juan was a fantastic guide, the whole crew was professional, on time, and made the whole experience unforgettable. Gracias por todos!
This was a great excursion! Juanse was our tour guide and he did a great job getting our group settled in. He had lots of great knowledge about the history and terrain of Tierra del Fuego and it was so fun to do the hike with a group. I highly recommend!
It was a fun hike - not too easy, but not too difficult either. The views on the way to Laguna Esmeralda (and in the way back) were amazing and the Lake itself is just beautiful, especially when the sun comes out and turns the water a bright turquoise color 😍. The pickup and drive were flawless ad our guide Manu was excellent. He has a lot of background knowledge about the area, the beavers' history and the trail itself. A lunch package and coffee for the stop at the lake were included. The whole experience was 100 % worth it and I would recommend it to anyone.
Lovely gentle hike with great scenery . Our guide was Violeta . She was very informative and friendly. Tasty sandwich and biscuit and coffee for lunch.
Loved the experience. I was initially a bit apprehensive of whether this would be too strenuous for my physical stamina but it was so manageable and the guide was super nice and ofc, the breathtaking view was totally worth it :) .
This was a great hike. Gabriela was a capable and generous guide. The pace was perfect and I really appreciated her insights and knowledge of the region.
Our group enjoyed a beautiful day lead by our guide, Franco. The trail leading up to Laguna Esmeralda was very muddy but Franco was very positive and helpful with everyone all the way. He also provided interesting information about the area as well. The views once we got to the lake were stunning and was the perfect place to enjoy our provided lunch. It was a great hike, a little over 6 miles in total distance, but not difficult at all. Definitely worth the muddy shoes for the beautiful views!
The trek to Laguna Esmeralda was beautiful! We left out early in the morning and got to the destination when it was not over crowded which made for a really peaceful encounter. As we were hiking back, there were so many people hiking up, so I was grateful our guide took us early. We also beat the rain that set in on our way back. The whole tour was spectacular!
Excellent trek to Lake Esmeralda with Maya as our guide. Very knowledgeable and attentive to our varied interests. Pay heed to the gear recommendations.
Maya is absolutely amazing and this trek was a fantastic way to see the Esmeralda Lagoon. Maya was extremely informed about the land and how to be with the land. The sandwich and cookies and hot tea were delicious. The driver Javier was delightful as well. Maya was a solid communicator and so very kind! This trek is worth the exercise.
Excellent trip! Myah was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had a great time and the scenery was breathtaking. Thank you Myah
It was fun despite the huge amount of mud!!! The scenery was lovely and like the pictures. We had rain, snow, little wind, and a peek through of sun. Bring layers!!! Nice and tasty lunch, and I really enjoyed Luke (sp) and his knowledge of the surrounding environment! Thank you.
It was really great! Violetta was the best guide. She had a big proffesional knowledge about the place, nature and history. It was really a pleasure! Group was not big (8 people), comfortable bus and driver very nice. People from the agency are very kind and helpful. Strongly recommend all trips with Explore Tierra del Fuego!
Guide was experienced and knowledgeable, food provided was of excellant quality. Would highly recommend this tour to the lagoon
Working with them was very easy. All instructions were sent timely and responded immediately when I had questions. I booked two tours with them. National park visit with train ride and hike to Lake Esmerelda. I would highly recommend booking tours with them.
The trek to Esmeralda Lake was lovely. The scenery is beautiful and Violet was such a knowledgeable and friendly guide. The lunch was also delicious! The pace was pretty leisurely and casual. The whole experience was around 6 hours including pick up and drop off from the hotel. Make sure to wear layers, it was warm at the start but chilly by the lake. I highly recommend this activity!
Inspiring scenery, good workout, knowledgeable guide, lunch by the Laguna. Hard pressed to find a better way to spend five hours of a day in Ushuaia.
The journey to Laguna Esmeralda was fantastic! The company had good arrangements beforehand like asking the food preference, picking up location and time, and information for what to prepare for hike. And the guide (Franco) was also very friendly and informative Generally the hike was easy with few steps. And we were lucky to have a sunny weather. Everything was perfect. And the lunch that the company prepared for us was delicious too!
Our trek to Laguna Esmeralda in Ushuaia was absolutely beautiful, and having Juan as our guide made it even better. He was extremely knowledgeable and took us different route options to reach the lagoon and back so we could maximize what we experienced. Juan also tailored the entire tour to our group — adjusting the pace, sharing insights about the fauna and flora along the way, and making sure everyone felt comfortable. At one point, one of our guys who is a Leo, slipped on the trail, and Juan reacted immediately, helping him up. This made him a hero. Highly recommend this tour — and if you get Juan, you’re in great hands!
Very slippery and muddy. But worth the view! Great knowledgeable guide and fabulous lunch to enjoy once we hit the destination. Being picked up at our hotel was perfect.
Incredible hike! Violeta was a competent and informative guide. She managed multiple languages, taught us about the flora and fauna and helped us across some very muddy patches. Very much enjoyed the trek and the time at the lagoon.
The guide Violeta was wonderful. She knew a lot about the area and was very helpful towards people in the group who were struggling while walking. The hike itself was beautiful too with the highlight that is Laguna Esmeralda. Unfortunately the laguna was not in an emerald color because of the weather, but nothing we could do about that. Also a good lunch and tea!
This is a fantastic tour and Juan did an amazing job. He’s knowledgeable, patient, and flexible to the needs of all levels of hikers. The views were incredible!
One of the best tours I ever took. Ushuaia is a beautiful destination, Luciano was a great guide and friend! Definitely recommend visiting Ushuaia with them, Laguna Esmeralda is a great spot, one of my favorites!
El tour y la guia con su experincia fueron muy bueno y muy recomendable
Excellent experience, very good information for the preparation, providing details about the clothing and the type of footwear. Violeta, our guide, was very pleasant and explained to us A lot about what we were seeing! Highly recommend the tour with her.
Excellent excursion to Laguna Esmeralda. They picked us up right on time and both the guide and the drivers were always super willing and had a great vibe. They provided us with all the elements we needed to do the trekking and were attentive throughout the entire experience. The lunch at the lagoon was delicious, and the hot tea and coffee were an incredible treat for the cold. The atmosphere was super relaxed, fun, and had very good energy. We had a great time and enjoyed the experience a lot. Highly recommended! Without a doubt, an excursion to do again. ❤️
