Hikes are short distances (30 minutes to 1 hour) and not difficult. Wear waterproof shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear appropriate clothing and anticipate rainy and windy conditions. Our guide took us through the magical fairytale-like Patagonian forests. The scenery in the TDF national park is breathtaking. Our guide Nico was outstanding! He is a tremendously nice and knowledgeable person. He did a great job describing the history of the Tierra Del Fuego region, geology and natural history of Patagonia and history of Ushuaia. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! Also . . . The treats by the shore of Lago Roca were delicious!
We had a wonderful day with Nicolas from Alma Calma tours. He speaks very well english and knows everything about the area. And he is also a very nice person. He drove us around Ushuaia and the Tierra del fuego national park. We made short walks to beautiful view points. Nicolas takes your wishes into account. So it will be a day as you like it the most. Nicolas is the best and nicest guide we could wish for.
Great tour of the park. Our Guide Nicholas is very knowledgeable and made it all really interesting. He’s also a great guy and made an effort to take us to see the things that interested us and do it all at our own pace. He added on time so that we could get it all in. Highly recommend him. A bit expensive for a couple to take this tour, but if, like us,this is likely tio be your only time in Tierra del Fuego, it’s well worth it.
This was a great find. Nicolas is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the whole area. He also gives so much information about the flora and for a plus the wildlife. If you want a tour in Ushuaia then I suggest you contact Nicolas at Alma Calma Tours.
This was a wonderful day spent in nature within Tierra del Fuego. Nicholas gave the best tour ever. He took us on so many short walks through the park naming plants, trees, waters and anything else we came across including the road ending at the southern most point of the world. We were 11 people so quite easy to cover alot of ground and to hear all the commentary. Loved it all!
My wife and I experienced the Tierra Del Fuego national park on a small group tour with owner/guide Nicholas and his trusty driver Raul. Taking us down scenic trails and alongside lakes that were really the ocean, Nicholas revealed the spirit of this amazing land through stories and history. Within a sheltered cove, we re-fueled with pastries and our choice of coffee, tea or the popular mate. Yes, a taxi driver could transport you to the park and back. But only a local Ushuaian with an obvious love for this land and passion for bringing it to life for his guests could transport your soul as Nicholas did for us. We highly recommend visiting the Tierra Del Fuego national park with Alma Calma tours.
We had a fantastic time. Nicolas was so passionate and knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the park that one couldn't help but love it, too! The outing was well planned to avoid crowds, and we even had a wonderful picnic. We did have an early ship departure, so Nico was careful to tailor the tour to our needs. He was warm, caring, and had great communication. Highly recommend.
Nicholas was an excellent guide. He wanted to show us his favorite spots in Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia avoiding the tour buses. He provided an Argentinian snack /picnic that was greatly appreciated . He was prompt and wanted to meet our needs. Don’t hesitate to book with Nicolas!
My husband and I used Alma Calma for a private tour of Tierra del Fuego the day our cruise ship was in port. Nicolas was easy to work with to plan out our tour based on our preferences and get it booked. Before we got to Ushuaia, he sent us directions for where to meet our guide. Our guide, Martín, was right where Nicolas told us to find him. This was by far our best and most memorable tour on our South American cruise. Martín gave us lots of information about Ushuaia and the surrounding area as we drove to Tierra del Fuego National Park. He knew where to start our tour so that we wouldn't be with the crowds that were visiting from the two cruise ships in port. He led us on three different hikes, showing us all the touristy places and the not-so-touristy places in the park. His English was excellent and while he told us so much about the area, he also shared a lot about Argentina in general, a lot about the local culture, and quite a bit about where he has traveled. We shared many stories with him, and we shared many beautiful places with him. There was never a rush to see the sites. After our last short hike and a snack break, Martín took us back to Ushuaia, drove us down the main shopping area and shared his thoughts on the various stores and restaurants, and then dropped us off at a place where we could easily walk around before we headed back to our ship.
Our tour was PERFECT! We were on a cruise on Celebrity Equinox. Our schedule shifted multiple times. Nicholas (Owner of the Company) was great about being flexible with the changes in dates. Juan (our driver) and Carla (our guide) showed up at the port to greet us, well before the alloted time. By the end of the tour, I felt like Carla was my BFF! We were on a private tour, just our family. She was responsive and proactive. Asking us if we wanted to drive, or walk. She geared our experience to our family's individual preferences. She was knowledgable about the flora and fauna. She conveyed history about the places we traveled to. She enlightened us with intimate wisdom about occurances the place, only a local would know. While she was a native Argentinian, her English was impeccable. She offered to take photos of our party at multiple sites. While being very conscious of our time, she even squeezed in a little bit more. As our son got down on bended knee to propose to his partner, Carla seemed vested in the experience! Nicholas, Juan and CARLA made this an unforgetable day in all our lives. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Alma Calma Tours Rocks!
Booked a private tour for our group of 7. Bottom line - amazing experience. From our booking, the Alma Calma group were extremely communicative. Carla and Juan showed up on time ready to go (~10 minutes before our agreed upon start time of 9am) and were easy to find off our cruise ship. They were immediately warm and friendly Carla was very well informed about the area - beyond the history of the city, she knew all about the regions ecology and its challenges (I.e the negative impact beavers have had on the region, which species were native vs invasive, etc). Her and Juan were also very flexible, offering options between driving or walking certain stretches with accurate estimates of how long a walk would take. Juan drove safely the whole time, and made getting in and out of the van at highlights very easy. I proposed to my girlfriend on this trip and they were extremely accommodating of this additional request as well - with the owner even checking in over text to make sure things went well! 10/10 experience, if we’re ever in the area again we would do another tour with them in a heartbeat!
My two kids and I had an amazing time exploring Tierra del Fuego with Nicolas. He is kind, knowledgeable, and great with kids. He knew all the best spots to take us, and we enjoyed every minute! Highly recommend!
Guide spoke English well, was attentive, courteous and knowledgeable. It was a fun day. Highly enjoyable.
We really enjoyed our experience with Nicolas who is very knowledgeable. He showed us different sections of the Tierra del Fuego national park and told us about the local history, flora and fauna. Highly recommend.
We did a private tour with Nicholas and it could not have been better. He was knowledgeable, interesting, thoughtful and we learned so much more about the area than we could have imagined. Every detail of the 2 tours we did with him was superb. I would recommend that anyone coming to Ushuaia gets in touch with him. 5 star plus
We did a tour with Carla who was such a good tour guide very passionate and informative about our tour. Scenery was amazing would highly recommend this you won't be disappointed!!!! Thanks again for a memorable experience🙂
If you’re looking for an exceptional, personalized experience in Tierra del Fuego National Park, look no further than Catherine from Alma Calma Expeditions. From the moment we met her in Ushuaia, her warm and engaging personality made us feel like we were setting off on an adventure with a close friend rather than just a guide. Catherine has an incredible ability to read her group and tailor the tour to suit everyone’s interests and energy levels. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a nature enthusiast, or someone who simply wants to take in the breathtaking landscapes at a relaxed pace, she ensures that everyone has a meaningful and enjoyable experience. Her knowledge of the region is truly impressive. She brought the history and culture of Tierra del Fuego to life, sharing captivating stories about the indigenous Yaghan people, the early explorers, and the impact of the region’s rugged past. As we walked through stunning trails, she pointed out native plants, explained their ecological importance, and helped us spot wildlife we might have otherwise missed—from soaring birds to the antics of red foxes. Beyond her expertise, what sets Catherine apart is her passion. You can tell she deeply loves this land and delights in sharing its wonders with visitors. She answered every question with enthusiasm and made even the smallest details fascinating. Her energy was contagious, making the experience not just educational but truly magical. By the end of the tour, we weren’t just in awe of Tierra del Fuego’s natural beauty—we felt connected to it, thanks to Catherine’s storytelling and deep knowledge. If you want more than just a tour but rather an unforgettable journey led by someone who truly cares, Alma Calma Tours and Catherine are the way to go. Highly recommended!
Arrived in Ushuaia on a Princess Cruise. Our family booked a private tour with Nic (Nicholas Wolaniuk) the owner of Alma Calma. The day was outstanding. We had planned to visit the Tierra del Fuego NP and later have a crab lunch in town. As it turned out, we were having such fun photographing scenery and birds and talking about the history of Ushuaia that we decided to forego the lunch. Nic is very personable an amazing guide/host. Born and raised in Ushuaia, he knew all the out-of-the-way trails and scenic spots to avoid the big group tours offered by the cruise ship. We learned about all the flora and fauna and how the land and bogs were formed. We even picked and ate a few wild berries and mushrooms. Then drove to the very end of the Pan American Highway which starts in Alaska. The walks were all on groomed trails... not very strenuous. And on one of the walks, Nic packed in snacks and drinks where we learned about (and drank) the famous Argentina Mate hot tea. We enjoyed our time in Ushuaia with Nic, I highly recommend him as a guide.
Best tour in Ushuaia! Best tour guide Nicholas! We had the best time and learned alot about history. Beautiful sceneries. And enjoyed the picnic with mate, argentinian pastries and a beautiful view. Happy we reserved this private tour!
Nicolas collected us from directly outside the ship, arriving 10 minutes before the arranged time. His car was immaculate. We had a fantastic tour, seeing various aspects of the local area and his English was extremely good. He even managed to magic up a viewing of a minke whale at the post office at the end of the world. He was personable and full of knowledge of the area, the history, culture and clearly passionate about the region. I wholeheartedly recommend him as a tour guide and communication with him was very easy.
Nicholas was an amazing guide who took us through the park taking time to explain the history of Ushuaia, geological history of the park, with some short hikes out to fantastic views.
Nicolas was my tour guide and he also owns his own local boutique tour agency. He was very knowledgeable and accompanied me every step of the way during the tour, taking the time to explain Patagonia’s history, landscape and flora/fauna. I learned alot from him! There was also a nice coffee/tea break midway through. Nicolas was very thoughtful, offering tissue/sanitizer in his car, along with bottled water. I enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend looking for Nicolas if you are looking for private, customized local Ushuaia tours.
My husband and I were part of a 10 person group on a tour with Nicolas from Alma Calma Tours. Nicolas is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Ushuaia and the Tierra del Fuego National Park. His timing was impeccable so that we saw all the highlights of the Park with little wait time. He even provided us with a picnic of mate tea and pastries. Julio, our driver was great about getting us close to all the areas and helping us on and off the van. I would highly recommend Nicolas if you want to experience the best of Ushuaia!
We created a private 12 person tour through Cruise Critic as we were on the Princess Sapphire, South America, Antarctica cruise. Nicholas met us right at our ship and took us on a wonderful five hour trip to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. He pointed out all the sites along the way and we saw amazing scenery. Nicholas is a registered tour guide from the national park and made sure that we went everywhere ahead of the large Princess tour buses. He is extremely knowledgeable. If you want a good experience in Ushuaia, you can’t go wrong with Nicholas of Alma Calma expeditions.
This tour was top notch. Nicolas is a very gentle soul, very much in tune with nature. Our driver, Julio, was very patient and always accommodated those who didn’t want to get out and walk. We started at the pier and had a short delay while two of the group of 12 (all of us unknown to one another, however this was a private tour that a “cruise critic” arranged) was missing. After a lot of searching for the missing couple we continued on without them. We made our way to Terra del Fuego National Park. Nicolas explained the geography of the area using maps for reference. We also had an explanation of how Ushuaia came into existence. We had several stops to get out into nature, they were all fairly flat and easy to walk. Nicolas told us about the different flora and fauna as we walked. There was a stop for a quick snack (ham and cheese empanadas) and they take credit cards or USD. We saw a lot of birds, had many beautiful vistas and took a lot of pictures! We visited the peat bogs and had a picnic at the “Post Office” at the end of the world. The picnic was lovely and set up by Nicolas and Julio while we roamed around taking pictures. On the way back to the ship we stopped at a few different points for pictures. Then we had a short drive through the town where some people opted to be let off to shop and make their own way back to the ship. Others were dropped off directly beside the gangway. It was a terrific tour. The vehicle was spacious and being sort of a mini bus we didn’t have to climb over each other like those in a multi passenger van.
We had such a great day in Tierra del Fuego National Park thanks to our awesome guide, Nicolas. He arranged for us to take the train and then met us at the end of the ride. I'm so glad we used a private tour guide instead of doing it ourselves or joining a big group. He was able to take us off the beaten path, at our own pace. He showed us all the best highlights. Nicolas was fun, friendly, professional and spoke perfect English. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
We had a day in Ushuaia and wanted to arrange a hiking tour with our family. Nicolas was fantastic at assisting us plan our best option which was the Tierra del Fuego. Nicolas was a fantastic guide with wonderful knowledge of the environment and plants. He had great patience with my very curious sons who had lots of questions all the time. He was absolutely professional at all times and a pleasure to deal with. We had such a memorable and beautiful excursion that we will always remember.
Such a great experience! Nicolas was very patient, respectful, and spoke great English. He was very informative on the tour. Nicolas accommodated our requests and made the tour a little more personalized to our photography needs. The coffee and pastries were a pleasant delight. Worth the extra money. We enjoyed a private tour for 2 people. Thanks again Nicolas!
I contacted Nicholas at Alma Calma to set up a tour from our cruise. He provided all information and set everything up. I collected a group of people on cruise critic and Facebook and they all contacted him individually for the tour. We were picked upon time with a nice clean van and excellent driver at the dock. we drive to Tierra Del Fuego. he provided history on the town and information about the area and the sites. His engish was excellent and he provided interesting information and answered all questions. I indicated wwhen I set up the tour it would be nice to do a little hiking or walking, so we did two nice walks in the park, none more than maybe a half mile. Farily easy. There was one passenger who was a little slower and he made sure the person was moving along fine (the person knew there would be walking and just took it at their own pace, and it worked well for all of us). He brought a snack of Mate tea (which we had all been wanting to try) and nice pastries. The cruise ship offered a similar but shorter excursion for about double the price. All participants were very happy with the tour. I would highly recommend setting up this tour with Alma Calma.
Our group of 14 enjoyed the excursion more because of our superb guide. Will not hesitate to recommend him. He is knowledgeable and will take the trouble to give in-depth answers, he is passionate about his role and managed the group activities very smoothly, while being flexible at the same time. Great communications skills and a most pleasant personality.
We absolutely loved our day in Tierra del Fuego National Park with Nicholas. He patiently and promptly answered my many questions prior to the trip and helped us create a custom itinerary around our limited time in the port of Ushuaia. We enjoyed everything on our wish list plus more. Nicholas’ passion for this part of the world was contagious. He packed a homemade lunch which we enjoyed in a tranquil, gorgeous private setting. We did not want to leave. It was a pleasure to be guided by a professional, experienced pro who felt like a new friend.
We did a private tour of Tierra del Fuego national park in Ushuaia with Nicolas. It was such a fun, enriching experience! Nicolas clearly loves and respects this beautiful environment, and this was evident in his explanations, his knowledge of the area, and the spots he took us to in this area. Nicolas was very pleasant, patient, and knowledgeable, and took the time to show us little details and answer all the questions my family (including 3 kids) had about the park. He identified various birds and berries, which my kids really enjoyed. He gave funny stories about the history of the area while also giving us a great education on the park at the same time. The tour felt authentic, not some generic tourist trap, and we really felt like we got a good exploration of that section of the national park in the time we had. I cannot recommend this enough if you want a relaxing tour of the Tierra del Fuego park in Ushuaia with a guide.
Our private trip was wonderful, the weather was so good. Our guide, Sergio is very professional and friendly and we had a very good picnic along the riverside. The whole trip was perfect.
Outstanding experience, all-around. Nicolas is a native of Tierra del Fuego and knows the area, its history, culture and customs extremely well. He’s very good-natured and delivers his insights with humor. He has degrees in Hospitality Management and Business Management, and it’s clear he paid attention in class. His communications were excellent and thorough before, during and after our excursion, when he followed up promptly with a photo he’d taken of our group. Nicolas’s driver, Miguel, made the experience smooth, as well, including on the park’s gravel roads. He and Nicolas scheduled our excursion to get our group to the park’s sites early so crowding was at a minimum and we could truly learn about and enjoy the key elements of this wonderful area. I would recommend Almacalma without hesitation. Nicolas and Miguel, thanks for an excellent day and all the best to you, both!
I highly recommend this tour with Alma Calma Expediciones. Katherine and Julio packed in an amazing combination of hiking and scenery stops, being mindful of the varying capabilities in our group of 9. The pastry and tea break served on a log on the shore of a magestic lake was, somehow, unforgettable, as was this very special day. Prior to the tour, Nicolas was very communicative and worked to assure expectations and preferences of the group were integrated. Pricing was very clear and payment very easy. This is a well-run organization.
This was a really nice tour. Katherine (Kate) was our tour guide and regrettably I don't remember our drivers name but both were excellent. We saw a lot in our 1 day private tour from our cruise ship. Book with Alma Calma and you won't regret. They are on time and concerned for your safety and are sure you will have a good time. We certainly did! Tierra del Fuego is a wonderful diverse park, you could spend so much more time there, we'll just have to come back.
Our tour guide met us at the ship and right on time. We took a quick tour of the city, stopping at a lookout for a beautiful view of the city and harbor. We then drove to the Parque Nacionál where we took a short hike to a beautiful overlook, traveled to the end of Highway 3, stopped at the visitor center and train station, saw a couple of the driver’s favorite spots, and purchased and mailed post cards from the southern most post office in the world. After returning to town, we toured a little more, stopped for coffee and sweets, and at the end of the tour had King Crab for lunch and walked back to the ship. The day was lovely.
Tour was great from the start. Nicholas met four of us at our boat and took us to Tierra del Fuego National Park. In the park we stopped several times for short hikes, with Nicholas giving explanations on what we were seeing. He was very knowledgeable and gracious! We enjoyed picnic on the lake with mana tea and yummy local treats. We would highly recommend this tour!
Nicolas is an exceptional tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about the local history, wildlife and flora/fauna. He did a great job of customizing the tour to meet my interests. I highly recommend this tour.
Nicolas from Alma Calma was great!!! He was punctual and considerate. He explained everything we saw and had incredible knowledge of the area. He spoke good English and made everything work perfectly. I give him my highest recommendation
I am travelling in Argentina with my sister, who I haven't seen for 3 years due to COVID. We are visiitng Ushuaia in April and came to Ushuaia for the very first time in our lives. As we planned to go to the Tierra del Fuego National Park, I started searching some tours on tripadvisor and this Private Tour by Alma Calma Expediciones came to my attention, as I thought it would be good to have a private guide to lead the way and provide an exclusive experience. We decided to go on Wednesday and I contacted our guide the day before to pick us up from our hotel at 8:30AM. As we came downstairs the next day morning, he was already waiting for us at the lobby and we left 8:30AM sharp. On the way to the park, our guide made a few stops along the route to explain the terrains and the glacier. The guide is very thoughtful throughout the trip and he wanted to make sure that we wanted the experience exactly as we wanted it to be! The first stop was the Tren del fin del mundo, we learned a lot about the origin of the station, the prisoners' role in the establishment of Ushuaia, etc. The guide asked us whether we'd like to take the train, which we opted out in the end (I can't say too much about the train as I am not so much of a train lover) as we wanted to spend more time in the park and do more trekking and sightseeing. Before we start each trekking route, the guide would make sure that we are okay with the difficulty etc. The park itself is very beatiful and the view goes without saying, but the tour guidance and stories from the guide reallly made it different, the atmosphere was very relaxing and we were just amazed by how knowledgeful the guide is. We had a lot of engaging conversations about Ushuaia's history, geography, culture, biological ecosystem, fauna, the entire trip felt like as easy-going as it could be and at the same time we really leanred a lot. And can I say, the coffee break by Lake Roca was so good! He provided lots of kinds of snacks and coffee/tea, which all of them were delicious! Overall, I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to have an in-depth experience in Tierra del Fuego National Park, and I would definitely go with Alma Calma Expediciones again the next time I am in Ushuaia, if there is a next time!
Nicholas of Alma Calma tours was absolutely outstanding. He is extremely knowledgable about the region and passionate about delivering excellent service. Cannot recommend him highly enough.
This was a private tour with Emanuel as our guide. Emanuel was very knowledgeable. He gave us a lot of information about Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego National Park. His English was very good as he had lived in the USA for a few years. After a walk in the National Park, we had coffee and Argentinian pastries. This tour was set up through Nicolas Wolaniuk, the tour operator. Nicolas always responded promptly to any of my inquiries. I can highly recommend this tour operator.
Nicholas picked our group up from the cruise terminal and we embarked on a 7 hour tour of Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego National Park. Nicholas is a native of Ushuaia who provided us with the history of Ushuaia, explained the topography, trees and animals in the region. He took us to several beautiful places in the park as well as the Train to the end of the world, the southernmost post office and the end of the Pan American Highway. We had a fantastic day and ended it with a cup of Mata and some delicious pastry. Highly recommend Nicholas.
I will leave this review anywhere that I can! My family and I visited Ushuaia in February 2023 and arrived by Cruise Ship. We did the private tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park with Alma Calma Expediciones. Our guide was the very best we could've hoped for. He arranged to pick us up at the cruise port and then took us to the national park. His knowledge of the area and the history of Ushuaia was amazing and insightful. We learned so much about the area. He was very kind and funny. The places he took us were beautiful and one of a kind. The hiking spots we did were also amazing. The terrain in some spots is unlike anything I've ever experienced. On top of everything he was very accommodating. From taking us to places we wanted to see (like the post office and train station). We traveled with 2 small children and he was accommodating with them as well like extra bathroom breaks and getting them involved by asking for their help with making the tea when we stopped for a picnic. It really made them happy. We had such a great day thanks to our guide. I would recommend this tour and company to anyone and everyone.
My wife and I and two friends had an excellent tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park and Ushuaia with Alma Calma Expediciones. Our guide was thoroughly knowledgeable in the history, geology and natural history of the area and we learned far more than we would have on one of the large bus tours. He also offered great service, helping us transfer our luggage between hotels in Ushuaia and providing a lunch of coffee, tea and pastries. We had several opportunities to walk/hike in the park away from the crowds. If you have time in Ushuaia, the National Park is a must see and a tour such as this is by far the best way to see it.
We had a fantastic private tour with Martin of the national park. He took us to all of the fantastic sites to see in photograph. The park was truly magnificent. The company set the tour up and we had a wonderful time. They met us on time at the pier. I would highly recommend them and our tour guide.
Nicolas was an amazing guide. Knowledgable, funny, playful and very interested in ensuring we enjoyed ourselves. It was a 6 hour tour and it was nothing but pleasurable. He made proper arrangements for us to the places we wanted to visit and gave us options during the tour if we wanted change. Will definitely look him up again!
Very Knowledgable guide . Beautiful scenery and wildlife . End of the world post office and also end of the Pan American highway .
