Lucas is an excellent guide and driver. He is one of the best tour guides we have ever had. Lucas stopped at multiple sites and explained each place as we drove along. It included the history of the Canadian Beavers in the area and also the glaciers. Lucus is kind and considerate and helped us with every detail. Our 4 course seafood lunch was so amazing. We had ceviche, mussels and the main course was crab. The dessert was a flan like coffee meringue dessert. It's was some of the best food we have had in Ushuaia. We had already seen the penguins so we did not go on the boat tour but visited a waterfall in the area instead. We were offered tea and coffee and snacks at the end of the day and mate on the way home. I highly recommend this tour.

Itinerary
Hammer Island, known as penguin, is inhabited by colonies of Magellanic and Papuan penguins. On this excursion the experience will be unique as you visit a zodiac ensuring you get much closer to the coast, providing exceptional views of the penguins in their natural habitat. You will enjoy more time watching these amazing and curious birds as they move along the beach or swim in the water. The proximity to the fauna, combined with the thrill of sailing in a zodiac through the waters of the Beagle Channel, makes this excursion an intimate and exclusive adventure. On board a zodiac, we sailed for an hour and a half along a narrow arm of the canal, until we reached the island of penguins. There we stop to observe and learn about them and the fauna of the Beagle in a wilderness environment.
The adventure starts from Puerto Almanza, a charming coastal town. Along the Beagle Channel, you can see marine production areas, with buoys dedicated to mussel cultivation, boats in full activity and traps for the centolla, known locally as 'red gold'. Following the iconic “Route of the Centolla”, we enter the village and walk along its only street, until we reach the dock where the boat awaits us. After the excursion, we headed to a local fisherman’s restaurant, where we enjoyed lunch with fresh produce from the region. Between talks and pleasant moments, we share our experiences before embarking on a return to the city.
The stop in Laguna Victoria offers a moment of tranquility in a unique landscape, surrounded by mountains and Fueguin forests. This lagoon, located in an extensive peat field, stands out for its natural environment and dark water. During the visit, in addition to enjoying the environment, we will have the opportunity to learn about this fascinating ecosystem and its importance in the region. It is a perfect place to connect with nature and better understand the crucial role of peatlands in environmental balance before continuing on our adventure.

It was a great experience with an excellent guide, Luciano.
Really enjoyed this trip and recommend it for a day when you don't want to be as active (vs a day hiking for example) or want to see the landscape around Ushuaia. The smaller group size is a big plus. We were able to get much closer to the penguins than larger boats. The food for lunch was also fantastic - i recommend choosing the Beagle menu if you like fresh, local seafood cooked to perfection.
On the day we were to go to see the penguins the winds were very strong. Those tours departing from the pier were cancelled as the winds were too strong in making navigation on Beagle Channel too choppy. However our navigation was from Puerto Almanza and we were able to proceed with the trip. At the town we were treated to a delicious local lunch. Sebastian was proficient in making the tour a memorable one for us.
Amazing! It was a complete experience, we were able to see snow during summer time and we were given enough time to enojoy it! The food was delicious we were able to go to Isla Martillo see the penguins. It was nice to watch them from the boat, you get real close respecting their space and environment. The whole team were very kind from before the tour, by asking about food preferences, during the tour giving information and time to enjoy each and evey stop. Would really recommend if you want to see the penguins, best choice!
The schedules were respected very well. The itinerary was just as agreed upon with the company. The experience was excellent! The guides are very polite and know the region very well. I highly recommend it!
Great trip. The Laila tour is great and explains everything during the trip to Puerto Almanza. Driver Léo is also very helpful and made a very smooth journey. We managed to spot some penguins, it was incredible. The lunch is good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended! I hired Explore Tierra del Fuego to tour Ushuaia and had a beautiful experience. The guides were very attentive, kind, and professional, always mindful of every detail and providing excellent explanations about the places we visited. Since I was traveling alone, they helped me take photos to have memories of these incredible landscapes. 🥰📸 Also, they pick you up and take you back to the hotel, which makes everything much more comfortable. Thank you for the attention and for making my experience in Ushuaia even more special! Without a doubt, I recommend them and would choose them again. ❤️🏔️
It's so cool to see penguins, especially gentoo penguins. There weren't many, but it was very interesting. The boat to the island was good and protected from cold winds. Lunch was okay in a house near the beach.
Great tour, one of the best I have done. After the initial pickup, we traveled along Route 3, where we stopped at different panoramic and winter spots in the city of Ushuaia. Afterward, we took the road that goes toward Puerto Almanza where we were able to see different beaver dams, lakes, rivers, and forests typical of the region. Then in Puerto Almanza, we ate at a place with a great vibe, where we shared a great moment together with the group. And then we went out on the little boat to see the gentoo and Magellanic penguins. On the same trip, a nice group was formed, and very well guided by Luciano for both those who spoke Spanish and those who spoke English.
It was spectacular! We loved everything. Congratulations to Explore Tierra del Fuego for the excellent service. We highlight, in addition to the excursion which is excellent, the warmth and kindness of everyone who makes it possible. Unmissable. We highly recommend Explore Tierra del Fuego to get to know the beauty of this southern province.
An incredible experience from start to finish! Franco is a star and a true expert; it is very obvious how much he knows about the region. The group of tour companions was great; there was a wonderful vibe at all times. The food was excellent, and I really appreciate that they took our dietary requirements into account—a great touch! And well, the penguins... simply spectacular. Highly recommended!
The penguin tour was everything and more than I expected The guide Luciano gave us excellent service and the trip to Almanza was spectacular The penguins are beautiful!
Marcelo was our guide on this tour and we learned so much about history! He is very kind and fun! It was truly a spectacular experience to see the penguins so close and the beautiful landscapes of the mountain range.
Sensational, people have a lot of experience, arrived at the right time on the island. To see the penguins return from the sea to the island. They are beautiful, thanks, swimming and jumping on the beach, walking on the island.
We did the unknown king crab route first with Lucas and then the visit to the penguin colony, and we loved it. Super approachable, fun, and attentive, with 10/10 explanations throughout the entire tour. You can tell that he knows the area very well and that he enjoys showing it off. A 10/10 guide and totally recommended! 🦀🐧 Asier and Ane.
There are excursions that show you a place... and others that make you feel part of it. Yesterday we experienced one of those unforgettable experiences with Explore Tierra del Fuego, heading to Puerto Almanza, a small fishing village where time seems to pass differently and nature sets the rhythm of life. From the first minute, the love with which Lucas and Mara do their work was evident. It was not just a tour: it was a close, personalized experience, full of stories, time to contemplate, and those stops that truly invite you to connect with the vastness of Tierra del Fuego. Each landscape seemed to surpass the previous one. The Fuegian valleys, Laguna Victoria, the beaver dam... each stop was an invitation to pause, look, and enjoy, understanding a little more about the history and nature of this corner of the world. Before we boarded to see the penguins, we had lunch at El Gran Chaparral. Araceli, its owner and cook, welcomed us with incredible warmth. Everything was homemade, prepared with dedication and local products. We tried king crab for the first time, and it was simply a delight. A place I would return to without hesitation and that I recommend with my eyes closed. And just when we thought the day could not surprise us any more, the moment to visit the penguin colony arrived. There we understood that nothing had been left to chance. Explore Tierra del Fuego organizes the excursion to arrive at sunset, just when the penguins return from the sea to the island. Seeing them appear in groups, walking towards the shore and reuniting in their natural habitat, with the warm light of the sunset tinting the landscape, was one of the most exciting scenes I experienced. A moment of contemplation that remains etched forever. And as if nature wanted to gift us one last magical moment, the return was sailing under an immense full moon that illuminated the entire journey back. A perfect ending to a day that we will hardly forget. I take away much more than photos. I take with me the memory of people who deeply love this land and know how to convey that love in every detail. Thank you, Lucas and Mara, for making it so that we not only got to know Tierra del Fuego, but that we could feel it. Without a doubt, I would choose this experience again and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Ushuaia.
Excellent experience, personalized, and above all, a lot of quality in the services received!
We had an amazing experience booking our activities with Explore Tierra del Fuego. All the guys on the team are the most! They know a lot and you can tell they like what they do. We did several and excursions with it, the groups are small which makes the experience much more enjoyable. Thank you so much for everything! 10/10 definitely!!
The guys in the company are wordless.
Our guide was Luciano, with him we could appreciate our landscape more since we are Fueguinos. A unique experience from another perspective, highly recommended. We had lunch at Yatayten, the food was exquisite and the attention a luxury. The navigation was great and they were very friendly with us. Every part of the tour was lovely.
Great experience 100/10 recommended. The tour is very complete takes you to see landscapes and we ended up in Almanza where we ate delicious and closed with penguin sighting that was a pass because they were very close.
Excellent tour. Super punctual .10 for Luciano. In every detail he was, he made it very enjoyable, we learned a lot. Recommended 100%. The sea menu by Araceli, amazing, fresh and tasty. We're going for more tours with Explore.
We visited Puerto Almanza and Penguinera with our guide Franco and it was spectacular: the human warmth, the attention to detail, the information he shared with us along the way,... EVERYTHING was excellent, a great guide. Certainly small groups make a difference compared to other offers. Fully recommended, we are happy to have chosen them.
We enjoyed this trip. From the beginning to the end he was very well organized. Our guide Sebastian was very open, absolutely friendly and his remarks very informative. He has the best knowledge of nature and answered all our questions professionally. On the way to the starting point of the boat trip, he already offered us insights into the varied nature of Patagonia. The fascination of seeing penguins in the wild is what this excursion brings with it. Through the combination of bus and boat trips you can experience the diversity of Patagonia's nature. There whole is rounded off at the end with a very good meal in convivial round. Highly recommended!
It was a super nice and welcoming excursion. Lucas, the guide, the whole tour was talking to us and told us about Ushuaia, the beavers, the scintillas and as my partner Enzo said he left us in evidence of how little we knew about geography hehe He made us walk on the peat, showed us a beaver and finally we arrived in the village of Almanza, with an incredible landscape and where he took us to eat the rest yatayten where we ate super rich! The golden clasp of the excursion is taken by penguins and sea lions, a sighting that is made in a small boat and allows you to see them super close.
The tour is excellent, Javi and Santiago were stellar, our guide, Santiago, knows everything, literal everything, explains everything in detail, super punctual with the information. The restaurant was a surprise, delicious food served in a spectacular way, overall an unforgettable experience, super recommended. Thanks for everything.
Wonderful and quiet excursion to learn about the history of Ushuaia, take spectacular photos of the mountains, eat rich and see sea lions and the adorable penguins. The Santi guide of the best we have had for all the desire to explain and all the history I knew.
