Enjoyable day out including a grilled lunch. Picked up at our hotel by our guide Cristian and we were then joined by three other people in town before our trek. While a bit discouraged by a gray day that became rainy, the sky cleared and we were treated to a pleasant windy day and amazing natural scenery. Cristian was always mindfull of the group's comfort and had a wealth of knowledge of the area throughout. The off-road portion of the trip offered beautiful views and quite a few opportunities for some light hiking. Lunch was a comfortable barbecue with appetizers, wine, and dessert in a small dining hut. Of note, we were fortunate that we were five people (two couples and a single person) for the excursion. While the SUV could have fit at least one more person, we were comfortable with five passengers. One more person in the middle row would have been a bit tight.. Additionally, Cristian asked us to rotate seating for everyone’s comfort. Highly recommend.

The lakes 4x4 excursion and Natural park visit.
Had an amazing 4x4 adventure in El Calafate! Chris was friendly and knowledgeable, the views were breathtaking, and the ride was comfortable and safe. A perfect way to explore Patagonia off the beaten path. Food and tea/ coffee was arranged on the way. Highly recommend!
Great guides, fun drive, and an excellent lunch! We had a great afternoon driving between the lakes.
Far better then I expected. I had actually driven half of the treck a few days earlier myself and the tour was still worth it. Franco was very knowledgeable in english ans answered all my questions and then some.
This was a great day out along an interesting and beautiful route in a 4x4 vehicle. The driver/guide was knowledgeable and informative and went out of his way to be pleasant and helpful. The lunch stop was a pleasant surprise - great food and wine on the house - a cabin in the woods! We enjoyed the whole day immensely. The only slight downside was that the car was cramped with six passengers, especially when we hit the rough roads. For the price, I’d say you should not have anyone in the middle of a rather narrow back seat. It would be virtually impossible for even slightly bulky people, which none of us were.
Excellent experience. The guide, Franco, was very friendly and with great knowledge of the area, also very expert in driving the 4X4 truck through the uncovered area. The excursion includes lunch and Patagonian wine, which were provided inside a cabin located in a wooded area. It really was a great experience, and the guide put his humor and joy into this excursion. Beautiful Lakes Escondido y Fangano
Laura is a great guide with a PhD in local biology she’s the person to talk about fauna and flora of the area. She’s given us great explanations throughout the day plus we walked quite a bit soaking the views in. On top of that the lunch was fantastic, a lot of tasty food and great wine. Highly recommend
I have booked a trip (10/2) with you after reading great reviews but have had no confirmation at all I have tried to contact you but no luck. Could you contact me Trip for 2 adults
Picked up from the hotel and my seat in the four wheel drive vehicle was in the back row, suitable for children but not for an adult who has paid good money to do a 4 WD trip. I shared the seat with a young lady who had a bad leg and was really struggling. There was very little leg room and very limited visibility out the tiny rear side window. The guy in front of us was not happy with the situation and said there was no way he was spending 6 hours cramped in the small space. I certainly felt like a “sardine in a can”. If you are going to put 6 people including a driver in a vehicle it needs to be a large 4 WD like a Toyota Landcruiser. The customer who was not happy with the situation asked to be taken back to his hotel with his partner as they would not be participating. The driver explained that at each stop we would be swapping seats so that we all got a fair chance, but he was still not happy and we dropped the two off. We were able to rearrange the seating with just the driver and 4 passengers: 1 passenger up front and 3 in the middle row, rotating the person sitting in the middle, since the back row was so uncomfortable and had such poor views. I felt for the first half of the trip that I was on a tour bus with the constant running monologue that seemed canned. There was a lot of driving, probably 40 minutes on sealed roads, then another 30-40 minutes on a dirt road, before we got to the lake and started real 4WD. The first stop on the sealed road was an overlook of a lake, which we skipped due to weather, stopping there on the return instead, showing good flexibility. At the second stop we got to walk along the lake, stretching our legs and admiring the views. The third leg of driving to our lunch stop included some moderate 4WD in mud ruts, deep puddles and the shallows of the lake; before being dropped off for a hike along the lake while they prepared the lunch. Lunch was delicious and the highlight of my trip, we had bread, cheese and sausage with olives and egg plant followed by a very tasty sausage sandwich, then the steaks which were huge with salad and potatoes. Desert was a very tasty local bread pudding. Lots of local Malbec wine in a shed in the middle of the Forrest and we got to see a grey fox who appeared outside the window just after we had finished the meal. The 4WD driving just before and after lunch was fun and I wish we could of done more of it in a bigger 4 WD. I would recommend that it would of been worth paying more to have a private tour and if we return that is what we would do.
Great experience and beautiful country. Many people just head west to the national park. But this area was stunning. Thought Canal did a great job with the trip- was very easy to check their site for trip options, they were very responsive by email and answered my questions quickly, was easy to book and pay. They arrived perfectly on time. Their vehicles were very comfortable and reliable, which I'd appreciate later when another outfitter vehicle broke down and left us stranded on the road for a while. The guides were very friend and super knowledgeable. I learned a lot about the area on my first day. The best part was the lunch they provided at a private cabin along the shore. It was like a 4 course meal, not just a snack. Was a great trip all around.
The time spent driving off-road was by far the best part of this trip. The scenery, especially the lakes with mountains in the background, was spectacular. The experience was made all the better by our guide/driver “Christian” and the vast amount of local and regional information and history he shared. There were 5 passengers in our group, and we were able to make frequent stops at points of interest and viewpoints. Near the mid-point of our journey, we disembarked at a lake and were able to spend about a half hour walking along the lake shore road while our driver drove ahead to the “Refugio” where an incredibly delicious barbecue meal was being prepared. We were allowed ample time for a relaxing (and filling) meal and conversation, after which we continued our trip back to Ushuaia. If you have a few hours to spare while in Ushuaia, I highly recommend this tour. It was well worth the cost.
FRANCO, the amazing driver/guide was helpful and very informative. He made the trip very enjoyable. "Rosita" managed to make it through all of the challenging terrain. I never though that riding in a 4x4 through the forest and lake could be this much fun. The scenery was spectacular and the lunch, with some nice Malbec, added to the experience.
It was a very nice trip and our guide was very helpful. The food served was excellent! Highly recommended. Obs: given it’s a 4x4 ride it was a quite bumpy ride so those back problems should not take it.
What an amazing day, the views, the food, the adventure and big shout out to MARTIN our guide who was professional, friendly and made it super fun! don't forgot to TIP guys!
This was a "real" 4-wheel drive experience. We went thru some pretty rugged terrain and our guide Martin (not sure if I spelled his name right) is a competent driver and gave us only confidence. Lunch was fantastic and both Martin and the other guide did a great job.
Eduardo was a fantastic driver and guide for our adventure. Beautiful landscapes! The trails and lake front (as in driving through 2 feet or more of water) were fun. Eduardo was very knowledgeable the flora, fauna, and the history of the park. Lunch was very enjoyable. Steak, sausage sandwiches, salad and wine in a wooded alcove near the lake. The 4x4 was a Brazilian vehicle military model that could traverse a more challenging trail (lake frontage) than the Toyata cars so I highly recommend booking that vehicle. Great experience.
Friend and I did the 4x4 and decided to sit in the back of the car as it’s the part that moves the most - BEST DECISION EVER! Diego was an awesome guide and constantly checked on us whilst we were getting thrown around hahaha - the lunch after was incredible! Heaps of meat and snacks! Best thing I did in Ushuaia to be honest.
Lakes, forests, mountains - real country yet so close to Ushuaia town. Edwardo was a great driver and informative guide. Super day
We spent Christmas day with our guide Eduardo and 2 more guests in the 4x4. Eduardo was extremly kind, explained everything about Tierra del Fuego and made us all feel comfortable. After a nice ride, we took advantage of the 4x4 and even drove through a lake. Everything was topped off with a shared, super delicious asado. Thank you very much!
What a great tour—fun and exciting and beautiful and yummy. Eduardo was the best guide. He made sure we all felt included and took us on a great off-roading adventure that included getting stuck in the mud and using the winch to unstick us which was really fun! The lakes and countryside were beautiful. And the lunch was soooo good. Fava bean and eggplant starter, sausage sandwich, perfectly cooked steak. The Canal Fun tours are the best. Don’t miss this adventure :)
Everything went smooth, they came in time for the pick-up, car was confy, driver was talkative, new what he did. The only problem we had: weather. Come on, this is Cape Horn, how is it possible no wind, 22°C??? Some parts of the tour really required 4x4, lunch was excellent, could not eat to much stake as the beginner course was already sooo big.
We loved it so much we did it at the beginning and the end of our Antarctic adventure!! Canal Fun provides a great off roading experience with a fabulous lunch! The office staff is both professional and attentive. All emails and texts were responded to very quickly. The actual 4x4 experience with Eduardo was GREAT! He provided us with lots of historical information, but more importantly, lots of laughs. We enjoyed every minute of it both times! Highly recommend.
Our guide, Franco, picked us up from our hotel. One couple was already there and we picked up another couple. We rotated seats so everyone had an opportunity to sit in the front or next to a window. I think a group of is the max but that would a snug ride. Our group had a ton questions and Franco patiently answered everyone. We stopped At a peat bog-wear your hiking boots! There was a quick stop at the first lake from a viewing area. Then we drove through forests which started our off rode adventure. The ride was bumpy and recent rains made it muddy. If driving in these conditions were an Olympic sport, Franco would take home gold!!!! We stopped when we arrived at the second lake and had time to explore. The vehicle was comfortable and was driven in the lake, through huge puddles and across streams. It added some excitement. When we’re close to the cabin, we were let out to explore an area and then had a short hike to meet up with the drivers. They went ahead to start cooking lunch. Lunch was amazing’ potato chips, cheese cubes & olives, marinated beans & eggplant. There was water (no gas-maybe it could be requested) Malbec wine& Pepsi. They brought out Choripan-it’s similar to a hot dog but my son thought it tasted like Polish Kielbasa.then salad & steaks were brought out. I’m not a big fan of red meat but I ate my entire steak. Then with full bellies we set out to See a beaner dam. Then went back to our hotels or anywhere you wanted to go in Ushuaia. I would highly recommend this. It’s a must see activity!
FANTASTIC explains it all. Franco our driver entertained us all the way with great local knowledge and history of the Island. He is a very compitant driver on and off road. Lunch was also a big highlight and suprise, more like a banquet. May seem expensive, but worth every peso (dollar). Definitely recommend as 1st priority touring in Ushaia. Thanks to TripAdvisor readers for their reviews which helped us choose this Adventure. Leigh & Narelle
It was one of our favorite tours in Ushuaia. We had a lot of fun. It was really a 4x4 tour, not like others that we had taken in other places. We strongly recommend this tour. It was amazing and our guide was very nice! The lunch was good too!!!
Incredible experience with Canal Fun in Ushuaia! We were honeymooning and joined a 4x4 trip with 2 solo female travelers & 1 older couple. The vehicle was roomy enough for all of us, and our guide made periodic stops to ensure we all had a turn in the front seat. The off-roading was insane - through the lake, over hills, and all very safe. The views were absolutely stunning. Unparalleled. And lunch at the shelter was incredibly delicious!! We were stuffed and happy about it. The food was amazing, the wine was perfection, and the crew was friendly. We made friends with our tour mates and had one of the best days of our trip. I would recommend this excursion to people of all ages and activity levels.
Your guide picks you up in town and takes you out to several lookout points before going off road. Be prepared for many bumps, splashes and a drive in the lake before coming to the cabin where you'll enjoy a great lunch. Our guide Frodo was very informative and passionate about the region.
Pick up was right on time. We have an unusual sunny day. Total 6 people in our group. Eduardo - fantastic skill driver and Camilla - wonderful tour guide. They work as a great team. Very knowledgeable and informative of the areas and answer all our questions. They make sure we enjoy our trip and all our needs are taken care of. We have so much fun slipping and sliding driving through the mud. Then up the hills, down the hills, through the streams and cross the lake!!! Eduardo and Camilla also cooked our lunch. Great chefs, starting off with great appetizers - chips, olives and cheese, sausage dog, etc. than follow with salad. Our main course was bbq rib-eye steak. Great local wine. Can’t ask for more in the wildness. Highly recommended.
I was in Ushuaia for only a couple of days and travelling alone. I found Canal Fun through trip advisor and they met every expectation and more. I took two trips with these guys. Highly recommended. They are fun, friendly, knowledgeable and well organised. Couldnt fault them and would definitely do it all again! Brilliant.
I tried several different companies on my recent visit to Patagonia and I must say Canal Fun & Nature was one of the best. I thought I'd try something different rather than conventional excursions and I was not disappointed. A fun-packed day in a 4x4 sliding about in the mud and splashing along lake shores - not for the faint-hearted. What I particularly liked about the excursion was the friendly nature of the guides, no pretensions, no showing-off. They had a great attitude, showing us what they knew and could do in a natural manner. Thanks guys!
First we booked our lakes bus tour with Tolkeyn Patagonia agency ,but when we got to Usuaia we ask Tolkeyen to change it for 4x4 full day tour. It was right decision we were with Camila (guide) and Edo ( excellent profesional driver ) and another young couple from Brazil ,it was nice sunny day and so marvelous drive through forest and on lake shore, and than generous lunch with pleanty food and wine. Very recomend ,it cheap but it worth to do.
I found Canal Fun through an internet search for "outdoor activities in Ushuaia in August." After looking at the website, I emailed them directly to ask for more information on what we would see/do since we would visit in the winter and we do not ski. Carlos responded right away to my email and answered all of my questions thoroughly. We booked our 4x4 adventure about a month ahead of time and again, they were very responsive and professional and patiently answered all of my additional questions (how to dress ("like an onion, in layers!" do we need hiking shoes/boots, "yes!"). We were picked up at our hotel exactly when they said they would. Cami and Eduardo were the best guides - so lovely to spend the day with, very knowledgeable about the area. The off-road part was the most unbelievable part of the trip-the Brazilian military vehicle was amazing going through the mud, water, on the trails. It was so much fun. Our teenage children loved meeting the sled dogs, riding the sled and the snow cats. Lunch was delicious and Cami encouraged conversation with the other group - that day was the highlight of our 10 days in Argentina. If we could visit again, I would book another trip with Canal Fun!!
My brother and I had booked the guided bus tour for Lago Fagnano trip before arriving in Ushuaia but after being there a couple of days we decided to change it to the 4x4 off-road experience and that was probably the best thing we did in the entire trip. We began with Llanos del Castor, played with their sled dogs and rode a snowmobile through the woods. Then, via Lago Escondido sipping mate and into the woods for the off-road part of the trip arriving at the campsite next to Lago Fagnano for lunch. Shoutout to Camilla, our amazing tour guide. Very friendly and helpful. Some awesome conversations we had together. Eduardo, the driver/masterchef. Even with all the gorgeous views we had, that lunch at the camp was the highlight of the day. And Lucia, the super chill host at Llanos del Castor, Thanks for the dulce de leche. I did bring back a lot of it. A day well spent with all-round awesome people.
A must if you go to Ushuaia. We enjoy the trip and whole experience. We had a great day. Thank Sergio for the experience
We took this tour due to the very good reviews it had. It wasn't cheap and I'm still battling to say if it was worth it or not. We went on a 4x4 with other 4 people to a couple of lakes and stops for pictures. It was erh...ok. If you have never seen a lake or southern landscapes probably this is a good start, however that wasn't our case so we felt paying a little expensive for something not that special. Now the lunch was GREAT, they make the BBQ and offer lots of food to everyone, nice conversation and leisure time. In conclusion the lunch was great but the lakes just average.
Great tour with breath taking Lake and Andes views, fun by the Beaches and excellent barbecue with local wine. The drivers are great and very knowledgeable too. I loved it and strongly recommend this activity in Ushuaia !!!
We booked 3 trips with Canal Fun: National Park ( half day), Laguna Esmeralda trekking + beavers and Off road Lakes. They also helped us to reserve the Wlaking with Pinguins in Martillo Island with a third party company Pira tour, the only company that has permissions to get off on the island and allow you to walk with the Penguins. Our contact with Canal Fun was very easy.Carlos was very kind and patient in answering all our emails. Our guide Joaquim was amazing! He was very knowledgeable about the places we visited. He integrated the whole group, sent photos to our emails, and made everyone feel very comfortable. Eduardo was our off road driver and guide! Very special experience .He and Joaquim cooked us a great Christmas meal, parrilla Argentina, delicious beef and chorizo plus Fin del Mundo Malbec wine in a cabaña in the middle of the forest!! Canal Fun thank you very much for a wonderful time!!
My son and I opted for this tour as a lighter stop on our itinerary of more physically demanding treks. It was fun and relaxing, with loads of beautiful landscape overlooks, most especially along the coastline of Lake Fagnano. The 4x4 aspect was pretty exciting and the multi-course meal cooked over an open fire was one of the best we had in Ushuaia. Strongly recommended!
We never had that much fun with a car like this. Amazing what our driver did during this tour. Also a great barbecue in a nice shelter.
at first you may : "yeah, 4x4 it's just gonna be a ride in the woods or so with beautiful landscapes". But it's way more than that, it's really fun! And you get the real utility of a 4x4 vehicule, screaming, laughing and being like "we'll never get through this it's impossible!!". And, you still have the incredible landscapes. A must do.
If you expect a super trekking trip, here, with all the fury, out there you will walk only a miserable kilometer. Almost all the crossing is above the 4x4, you will enjoy the landscape of the route and the forest at high speed without the possibility of taking photos almost. Only 3 stops: at the Garibaldi viewpoint, at Lake Fagnano (east) and again at Fagnano (west), every stop no more than 15 minutes. Then eaten in a hut: a minced not out of the ordinary, a piece of meat practically raw to the veneer (they never said if it was cow, lamb or what) with a couple of sliced potatoes (they were delicious) and dessert was a tiny square of bread pudding with a cream and caramel (it was good). The guide... well, he's not a guide, just a driver who was raised in Ushuaia, but don't expect much information about the fauna and flora of the places visited because they don't have much idea of that. What is rescued is that you cross hostile terrain in the middle of the forest. If you don’t like walking or taking interesting photos, it’s the ideal excursion.
Spectacular with the guide Cristian we enjoyed his knowledge, love for his place and the warmth of a great host and Cheff! Exquisite and unforgettable lunch. Excellent driver. All recommended
Great and unique 4x4 off-road tour with the driver/guide Christian. Super imparting knowledge of nature, landscape and culture in excellent English.
We did the 4x4 tour to Lake Fagnano. The guides were super attentive but the reality is that the 4x4 vehicles are not at all suitable for 7 adult seats. We had to occupy the subsequent places of children, with the corresponding discomfort and lack of vision. Moreover, the promised trekking is practically non-existent, as we did not walk more than 400 meters.
Safety pin!!!! From the moment we hired, we were always very cordial. They picked us up on time with the impeccable truck!!! Carlos (Chuky) the driver, guide and cook 👨🍳 really excellent, very correct and cordial, in the other van Cristian was also super friendly!!! Beyond the Landscape accompanies this excursion, the finishing touch is the refuge, chopped, choripan and the best chorizo steak in recent times, we close with coffee and return to Ushuaia with a soul full of so much enjoyment, it is worth every penny!!! Do not miss it
We really liked it, we went in winter and there was snow along the way. There is a stop at a beautiful viewpoint, we took a photo of the sunrise! Wonderful! The entire stretch is very beautiful, including the road. We took another route (away from the main road) with a beautiful landscape (complete with a soundtrack in the car). We passed by the edge of a beautiful lake with the banks all made of flat stones. The car passes well into the lake a few times to get past some obstacles. The guide leaves us on the road to enjoy the landscape and take photos. After a light walk we arrived at a hut where the guides themselves made lunch including starters (cold meats) and unlimited wine, choripan and beautiful roast meat. The guides are excellent, very friendly and fun. We went with Juliano who is a 10!!! I recommend the tour.
Safety pin!!! One of the best things we did during our stay. First we went on a snowmobile ride, something wonderful because of the activity and its surroundings. Then we went on the 4 x 4 journey, everything was incredible. First class guide Cristian (Tierra Turismo), explaining at all times. We got out of the 4 x 4 and after a 20-minute walk we arrived at an incredible shelter, where we ate a tremendous barbecue. The excursion lasts all day, it is really worth it.
Really excellent an excursion hired through unmissable free time from start to finish very good predisposition in the case of our two drivers always seeing that you pass it first , good handling , knowledge of the whole route and at lunchtime in the refuge some geniuses
Estupendo súper recomendable. El guía Martin súper majo y el tour muy entretenido con gran comida final en el refugio
