A whole day of amazing experience, with multiple activities. The scenery views, the canal, and the penguins were an awesome experience.

Itinerary
From our office, or from your hotel, we leave Ushuaia to visit the eastern part of the peninsula. The attractions we will enjoy during the activities we propose will make for a unique experience of the wildest area in the Beagle Channel.
This place offers the first glimpse to a very different area when compared with others to the West, be it Ushuaia or the National Park. We are now close to the starting point of our canoeing activity!
We will paddle through the channel as the native people did for thousands of years until we reach our refuge on Gable Island. This experience is to be lived instead of written about!
Our stop here will add to this full-day active and adventurous tour the opportunity to see the penguins on the beach, from a ver close distance, a few metres away from our boat docked on the beach.
This is the place where you will get to see what's the end of the world all about. During the next hours we will go for a hike in a pristine landscape, after an excellent lunch cooked on site.

Tour was amazing. Facundo is very knowledgable, funny, and a great communicator. He clearly knows the ecosystem there above and beyond the average tourguide and we learned a lot along the way. The balance of activities was great, lunch was superb, and of course, the penguins were amazing!
Don't let my review title intimidate you. But you WILL be doing a significant amount of exercise, on land and on water! They picked us up at about 9am in Ushuaia. Once they have picked everyone up, the day starts off with a 1:15 drive to the east edge of Tierra del Fuego, then you walk about 15 minutes to get to the start of the paddling. The paddling segment is in a group kayak for about 2 miles, in a setup like white-water rafting - everyone gets a single-ended wooden paddle, and we're seated along the sides of the large inflatable kayak. The tour company provides waterproof pants and boots, and stores your own shoes and any bags in dry-bags they transport for you. At the end of the kayaking (takes about 1 1/2 hours), you have a delicious, fresh fish lunch they prepare for us, and rest for about an hour. Then it's time for another hike, this one is about 3 miles long through stunning scenery through an uninhabited island. Wear good hiking boots, recommend water resistant/waterproof if possible. Then you get into a boat and they take you to an isolated beach where the penguins are hanging out. You watch from ashore for a good half hour or so, and the guides were great about "circulating" where people stand so that everyone on the boat gets a good front-row view of penguin action! We saw Magellanic and Gentoo penguins this time. At the end, the boat then takes you to your final stop, and the tour van takes you back into Ushuaia. It was a great day. We didn't get back to our hotel till close to 7pm. We really enjoyed learning from our guide, Facundo, who is a Tierra del Fuego native! Great tour and highly recommended!
We did three tours with Canal Lakes and Fun. This tour, the Full Day, and two 4x4 vehicle tours to the National Parks and the Lakes area. Every tour featured excellent communication, organization and equipment. All the guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The Full Day Tour is a great day out. After an hour ride we geared up in boots and water proof pants and jackets. We paddled for 90 mins through gorgeous Tierra del Fuego scenery to our lunch spot. The views were spectacular and we enjoyed fish and local mussels for lunch. We relaxed and the group broke up into two hikes of two and a half hours and a flatter one hour hike. A boat picked up both hiking groups and we went to see the penguins. We were close to them and we had plenty of time to appreciate them. The boat continued to an interesting Tierra del Fuego outpost where a small bus picked us up to head home. A full, interesting and varied day. Highly recommend working with Canal Lakes and Fun.
Canal is a very professional and efficient tour operator. They have a great variety of options that expose visitors to many aspects of the beauty in Tierra del Fuego. The guides are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and are all bilingual. Their treks offer epic views and once and in a lifetime experiences. Canal is a 5 star company in every way. I recommend them to anyone who wants to experience the magic of Patagonia from a base in Ushuaia.
Excellent full day small group experience. Guides were very knowledgeable and the pace of the day was perfect. Great lunch prepared on site in the great outdoors. Very nice hike on Gable Island. Day ended with an up close and personal visit with the penguins of Marilou Island
This was as described as all other reviews. If you only have a day, do this tour. The tour Guide Valetine was so great. He was very kind and very knowledgeble. The penguins were so cute. And really you don't need to walk on the island. They are all really close and you can get great photos. So glad I trusted the reviews and signed up to the tour.
Had a phenomenal experience with Canal Tours in the Gable Island and Beagle Channel trekking and canoe excursion. Santiago was a perfect guide. Very friendly and informative and organized. Sol was a great driver. Mauro and Olmo were also wonderful guides with the canoe. I highly recommend this experience and these guides!
The most knowledgeable guide we've had on our entire 2 week trip! Was a lovely time and got to spend an entire day adventuring around
I loved everything about this tour. The guides were fun, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The activities were the right pace for us and the kids. The small group size was just right. Their food was great! Gable Island is stunningly beautiful. The penguins were really fun to watch. It was a perfect day and the highlight of our trip to Ushuaia.
This was a terrific trip from start to finish. Pickup was timely, the guides were friendly, informative and helpful and lunch was excellent (and enormous!) The paddling was not too demanding and we were fortunate to have decent weather and to see a great deal of wildlife. Truly a first rate outfit.
It was a great tour. Tamara provided fantastic commentary, views and lunch were beautiful, while canoeing and trekking not strenuous. Together with amazing fellow travellers it was an extremely memorable trip. Highly recommend!
Seeing the penguins first and foremost. Rafting down river was enjoyable and paced to take in scenery
The guide was great with a lot of information about Ushuaia and the surrondings. Everything went according to plan. A lot of scenic spots for great photography
I did the Gable Island and National Park Canoe tour with Canal Fun, both were fantastic. Friendly and professional guides, food was very good. Highly recommended!
We booked this tour with my wife. It was a great experience. The guides were very informative and knowledgable. The organization was really good and the guides managed to establish a great connection amongst all of us in the group making it feel like we were all one. The visit to the penguins is really as long as it should be. You do not need more time nor to walk among them in order to enjoy them. Some of the places we visited were really astonishing in terms of natural beauty. Highly recommended!!
We initially did this tour because there was no availability to walk amongst the penguins. In the end I think this was actually the better tour though - A variety of fun different things and you still pulled up on the beach where the penguins were (you just stayed on the boat but could lean over the side for great photos). Lunch was fantastic - The vegetarian pie was absolutely amazing. The island walk was also great and we learnt lots about the history of the channel. By doing this tour I actually felt like I got a good overview of the beagle channel, and could’ve skipped the boat tour we did the following day with a different company (since other than the sealions you see basically the same stuff..). Staff were really knowledgeable and friendly too!
Wonderful guides, amazing three course warm lunch, fun time canoeing and hiking. Definitely recommend for families with young and active children!
A fabulous trip. Paddling down to the Beagle channel was tranquil and the sea was kind to us. Walking on the sandbar was special and loved arriving on the island under our own power. Great lunch by Martine at the shelter - 3 courses and vino tinto. Enjoyed the hike and boat trip to the penguins 🐧 who were adorable. Valentino and Mauri were fabulous guides.
The weather was beautiful. The locations were stunning. The food was delicious. The guides were fantastic (so friendly and funny). The absolute highlight was when we were going out on the boat to see the penguins, and saw humpback whales in the bay. A dream come true for me. That really was one of the best days of my life.
This day trip was super fun for our family with 3 teens (even though it rained the whole day and we leaned our jackets were water-resistant not water-proof). They picked us up from the hotel in a van, then picked up other guests from their hotels. We had a choice of canoe or not (inflatable rafts with canoe paddles). It was nice to see the landscape from the water and Mauricio was full of information about the area (and a sense of humor about the weather). Pato served a delicious warm lunch in the middle. And we saw penguins (the few who hadn’t migrated to warmer waters), a sea lion, other sea birds.
It was a last minute decision to go on this tour but we didn't regret it. It started with a 1.5 hour bus ride where people doing the canoeing got off and the rest (only 4) continued to the estancia for a tour of the grounds and the museum. We then took the speedboat to a beach with several Gentoo and Magellan penguins and Gable Island. Unfortunately we were not allowed off the boat to get a closer look. At Gable Island lunch was served and after a short rest we started the hike across the island to the pickup point for the boat. Along the way there are several viewpoints of the Beagle Channel and the island.
What a delightful day in Tierra del Fuego! Met friendly and interesting people and friendly and curious penguins. Valentino led our little group with good spirits and excellent organisation. The hikes were easy and with incredible views all along. The canoeing was amusing and gave us the chance to see things from the water.
I traveled all Argentina in this trip and by far, this tour was the best. All the details were taken care to the dot and organizers were very friendly and helpful. Anna is the best guide you can find in Ushuaia , thanks to her local knowledge and her multiple language speaking abilities, the whole group enjoyed this tour.
Very nice walk trough Gable Island with Joaquin & Pato, delicious meal and amazing experience with the penguins. IT is possible to spend less time in the Estancia?... it is interesting but too much time. Thank you!
We apparently finished up the season with the last trek to Gable Island. We had Marin guide us as well as a few of her friends for the last trip of the season. The rafting was beautiful,we saw many waterfowl and expansive views of the channel. The weather was perfect. A little disappointed that we got the other guide who didn’t speak English. The rest of the trip though Marin was full on English speaking guide even with her friends. The penguins were up close, and we even saw a humpback whale close by! Lunch was very good on Gable island in a rustic hut (This was the other place that we felt like the third wheel among a group of friends - the guides and their friends did not interact with us at all during lunch) The hike was very nice with good views and excellent information about the island and area from the guide. The shuttle was clean and smooth.
Amazing experience! The guides Quique and Joaquin were incredible! We had an amazing time! They were very friendly and helpful. Lunch at the refuge in Gable Island was a once in a lifetime experience.
Thank you Canal Fun for a brilliant tour! We loved everything about it! The paddling down to the Beagle Channel, watching the penguins, the delicious lunch at the cosy wood cabin and the magical walk across Gable island. Our guides Anna and Maori were charming and great fun - they even shared their mate tea with us!
We are 2 couples . We saw a lot of penguins in their island , very close to us, to the boat, but respecting their privacy. We enjoyed a lot in the nature, just in a few people with a professional guide.
Canal Fun were great from start to finish Especially Claudio our guide on our first excursion and the lovely Camila on our Gable Island hike The small group tours made it even more enjoyable and all the staff were so friendly and helpful we would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone researching their trip to Ushuaia’
Canal Fun & Nature has masterfully curated this trip. The trip to Gable Island was a once in a lifetime experience. We got to see penguins, sea lions and an assortment of birds. We also had an amazing lunch located in a old ranch building in the Beagle Channel. Although we were in an amazing place, the experience was further enhanced by the knowledge and personality of our guide Frasco. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone considering a trip to Gable Island.
We are a family of 5 (13 y/o, 11 y/o and 8 y/o). The day started early with a canoe ride on the Beagle Channel to get to the Gable island. Continue with a gourmet lunch at the "refujio", where Chupe, Esteban and Mauri treat us like royals. After a fantastic lunch, we went for a hike through the island with impressive views of the different harbors of the island and the beautiful Port Williams on the chilean boarder. There is so much history on the island and the channel that you are in constant learning. Last but not least, we took a speed boat to see a colony of penguins, amazing experience Although it is a full day trip, the kids never complained and enjoyed every minute of the adventure. Thank you so much Esteban, Mauri and Chupe for sharing your knowledge and your beautiful landscape.
We traveled to Ushuaia for the 4th time to do this tour, for me at almost 87 years old, it was now or now. The experience and value it had for me and my wife, Rosa, exceeded what was expected. The kindness and service given by Santiago and Aldana from our first contact by phone from Buenos Aires 2 months before and once in Ushuaia, was unbeatable. During the Tour we received the same quality of service and kindness from Olmo, the main guide, Pablo, the secondary guide who was my guide (because of my age) during the 8K walk on Gable Island, Pato, the driver and chef. the excursion and, Mauri, the canoe manager. THANK YOU A THOUSAND TO THE WHOLE CANAL GROUP.
Wow!
Beautiful day. Our guide Maya was really great! The activities and meals were very nice and seeing the penguins so close was beautiful.
Cute experience, especially sailing in the beagle, the penguin also very nice activity..
We spent a spectacular day getting to know unusual places in Ushuaia, accompanied by great guides.
We took beautiful memories of the two excursions we made with the people of Canal: Gable Island and Vinciguerra Glacier. Both very beautiful and enriching experiences. The guides and drivers very friendly and ready to enthusiastically share their knowledge about the region and the nature around us. We are very grateful to Canal!! Human quality and professionalism!
I took a two day and one night trip to Gable Island and the Beagle Canal and I could only recommend the organization Canal Fun! We were with family (a group of 6) and we spent two unforgettable days between us + the staff. I never felt like I was in a rigid tourist attraction and on his watch, than vice versa! Stewards and guides mixed well with the group and were attentive and open. We went canoeing, hiking and kayaking. Many thanks to Joaquin & Gonzalo (and everything else!) for the attention they paid us throughout the stay. Top organization and delicious food, thank you again!
A very nice trip with fantastic guides. Knew a lot about the area and told about flora and fauna. Many birds seen including penguins, but also terns and others After a delicious lunch a walk on Gable Island. And having sailed on the Beagle Channel is a great story!
the gomon rowing with our instructor Mauri was enjoying nature, condors included, Marine (I think it's called that) excellent guide. with explanations that make the ride a plus. thanks from good airs, excellent attention and cordiality. recommended for different ages. shirley and jose
What we especially liked is that you go to a completely different part of Ushuaia. Less in the woods but more in the "river country" so to speak. Everything was better quality and better organized than in the rest of argentinie. Good guides, excellent lunch and a nice diverse trip.
In my opinion, this tour operator is the best in Ushuaia. We participated in two different days of canoeing and walking in Tierra del Fuego National Park. The first trek allowed us to discover the beautiful landscapes of Patagonia with Valentine, Olmo and two adorable dogs:) The second trek took us to the post office after crossing the forest and beaches of the national park, with Flore and our canoe captain (the first name escapes me:s ) For the two lunches it was Gaston who regaled us with his excellent dishes prepared home! Thank you to the rest of the team for the Welcoming and discovery of your beautiful region. El Canal is recommended at more than 1000% in view of the quality of the service. A thousand thanks!
It is a very complete and different excursion, as you navigate the Beagle Channel and Lapataia Bay which is a unique experience. The two guides and the driver very friendly, the food very good and very abundant. They make for a truly unforgettable day. Thank you very much Canal Fun!!!
The tour is very well planned and conducted. The attentive and safe guides. The boat ride on the Beagle Canal, the view of the penguins, the delicious lunch in the cottage and trekking are a dive into the nature of Patagonia.
They can not stop doing it, it is excellent, always considering that the trekking is long, but wonderful, there is everything trekking, rowing, boating, food, the best as always guide them
Both the canoe trip and a jeep tour made with canal fun. Very well organized. Very nice, good English speaking and good guides. After all the effort you will be treated to a delicious lunch.
Excellent excursion, fully recommended. Flower, the guide, a genius, good disposition, attentive and re good vibe. Duck, the driver and chef of the day, a gracious one too. And let alone the group that made the excursion, very friendly and sociable all. The tour is very good, the passage through the flag trees is beautiful, the Harberton stay is very nice and quiet. On the other hand, the boat ride to Gable Island is great. Finally, the route along the island's paths is very good and the views we have from there are sublime.
The excursion is beautiful and the service of Canal is unmatched, certainly the best way to know a place, is when they make you be part of it.
Excellent excursion. The activity I did consists of a trekking around Gable Island and a visit to the Harberton + Hammer Island room (you can see the penguins from the boat, do not get off). Only this Enterprise has permission to visit Gable, so throughout the trek we were alone, enjoying incredible scenery. I think the excursion is very representative of what you have in mind when you say "end of the world", you expect something more rugged like what you see here and not the large contingents you can find in Tierra del Fuego park. I didn’t find trekking very demanding, you just have to feel like walking and be well equipped with appropriate shoes and clothes. I wouldn't recommend it for families with very young children and everyone knows if they'll be able to hang on for more than an hour walking or not. Lunch is served at an island retreat, and lunch is super hearty and delicious, much better than many downtown restaurants. The guide, Mauri, super professional. Very attentive to all the participants of the group, clearly and pleasantly told us about the history, flora and fauna of the place and other generalities. The driver, Pato, also very professional and very good co-equier of Mauri to integrate the whole group. While the activity is expensive, it is absolutely worth it. I recommended them and will continue to recommend them.
