This audio tour didn’t work consistently (you seem to need a good/better internet connection) and it was very hard to follow. Both my husband and I were often confused about where we were supposed to walk or what we were looking for. I don’t recommend this - go with a live guide instead.

Itinerary
The Etruscan Arch, or better defined as the Monumental Etruscan Gate, was probably built in the 3rd century BC and is located on the north side of the ancient city walls of Perugia that extend for 3 kilometers. The two main gates were the Etruscan Arch, or Arch of Augustus, to the north, and Porta Marzia to the south, which I will tell you about later.
The construction of the aqueduct, which extends for about 4 km, began in 1254 with the aim of transporting water from Monte Pacciano to the Fontana Maggiore, which I will tell you about later.
The Etruscan Well, located in the historic center of Perugia in the basement of Palazzo Sorbello, was built in the second half of the 16th century and acquired by the Bourbon di Sorbello family in 1780. The palace is currently still owned by their descendants.
Piazza IV Novembre represents the true heart of the city: a symbolic and cultural place that has been at the center of political and religious life for centuries. Significant events take place here, such as Umbria Jazz concerts, Eurochocolate stands and conferences during the International Journalism Festival, which hosts important Italian and international journalists.
The majestic Cathedral of San Lorenzo stands on the site of a previous 12th-century Romanesque church, which in turn occupied an area of the ancient Etruscan and Roman acropolis, now underground. Let's discover this amazing church!
Braccio Fortebracci da Montone was a skilled and determined leader who managed to expand his dominion over a vast area of central Italy, pushing as far north as Bologna, and in 1416 he obtained control of Perugia after defeating Carlo I Malatesta, chosen by the Church as “Defender of Perugia”. In 1423, a year before his death, Braccio commissioned the Bolognese architect Fioravante to create a loggia overlooking Piazza IV Novembre and including a staircase leading to his stately residence.
Corso Vannucci is the central avenue of Perugia and represents the historical and cultural soul of the city. Named after the great Renaissance painter Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, the avenue crosses the historic center and connects Piazza Italia to Piazza IV Novembre.
Rocca Paolina is a historic 16th-century papal fortress. Built by order of Pope Paul III Farnese between 1540 and 1543, the Rocca Paolina represented the papal dominion over Perugia, consolidated after the victorious “Salt War” against the people of Perugia. Designed by the military architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, the construction of the fortress entailed the demolition of about a quarter of the city. The structure was divided into two complexes: a larger fortress on the Landone hill and a smaller one, called “Tenaglia”, located lower down and connected to the first by three fortified passages.
The Belvedere del Borgobello is one of the most fascinating panoramic points of Perugia. From here you can admire the buildings, the historic center and the typical Umbrian landscape. It is also a meeting place for young people and families, a typical meeting place for the locals.

Really great fun way to explore Perugia! Lots of interesting detail to bring the City to life and easy to use.
These walking tours are hard to follow. They are rarely in order and there is barely any narrative Moving from one destination the next I would expect to hear some narrative about what I am looking at I am always looks for the map in the app beCause it disappears On my way! en if it’s free I would not recommend
This experience was perfect for us, because we only had a few hours in Perugia. We were able to skim through the itinerary as we went, modifying it to spend more or less time depending on our level of interest and how quickly the time was passing. Contact from the organiser was great, and access was super easy.
The tour was very informative and took us places through the city we never would have found. We were able to move at our own pace and enjoy the beautiful day.
could not change from driving to walking although the tour was also not easy toni’s with multiple play buttons
This was a great and cost effective way to learn the highlights in Perugia. Internet connection can be tricky so it was helpful to be able to read about the sites and then visit them. You have all day to access the website and tour which turned out to be a plus! I ended up stopping to enter several of the sites for a few hours including the Capital museum, Perugia Underground and the National Gallery and then read more about them later. I returned the next day to get a closer view of the last of the sites mentioned on this list after reading about them. Very helpful for a first time visitor to Perugia!
We did this tour in about 3 hours and found it very interesting. You can do it at your own pace. We happened to be here for the jazz weekend.
Grest tour, lots of interesting facts. Suoer to have audio, the transcriotion and photos.
Excellent walking tour. Very easy to use, took us to places we would have missed. Will definitely use again
Absolutely fantastic. Great value and very entertaining and informative.
You can pause the tour and resume it afterwards. You can go back on it. Very convenient. Saves money, flexible on time.
It makes such a difference to know a bit of a history and more details about the most important and interesting places in a new city and this guide provided exactly what we needed! It was easy to follow, the option to either listen or read the information was really helpful, the map integrated with Google Maps made it all so easy! We loved it and I highly advise whoever missed the Free walking tour option to come and pick that guide - it is practically the same but with your own pace and without the crowds!
Easy to use and just the right amount of information. Would recommend!
The walk was fine for those short of time and the information provided was very detailed and interesting; more than signs that you can read at each site.
The walking tour helped us to be organized so that all the important information we wished to gather was accomplished. A great tool for all
I really enjoyed this walking tour. It was good value for money excellent information with excellent background history very easy to use on the app and I like the fact that it connected to Google Maps when I needed to go to the next point in the tour it would walk me there. It was a really great way of getting a feel for Perugia and its the history and making sure I saw all the sites in one day.
Surprised that in Perugia there is no guided "free walking tour" we downloaded this audio guide. It worked well and between our various devices we could follow the trail from one site to the next.
Downloaded and was on the tour within minutes. You can do the sites in any order; I did them all. Very interesting tour. Would highly recommend :)
Great to do at your own pace. Informative and not overwhelming. Highly recommend. Easy to navigate. Looking forward to using it in other cities
Perugia was just beautiful, the audio guide was great, it gives you the flexibility to do the tour at your own pace, time & spend as much time or as little time as you like on each thing.
Experienced fascinating views and locations of Perugia that would not have been seen otherwise. Highly recommend seeing this medieval city from this perspective.
Absolutely amazing ; so well structured and illustrated that it exceeded all our expectations . In realty it was far superior to a personal guide which we have been using previously not only here but also around the world.
You do not need to go to the “meeting place”. You can start the tour anywhere. We found the program challenging as you have to toggle back and forth between the map and the info
Really enjoyed our tour, there was plenty of information for each stop, from the history to present day. It was a fantastic way to learn about Perugia and the surrounding area.
We discovered places that we wouldn’t have stumbled across by using this self guide. It was very informative and easy to use. Perugia is a very interesting place with some beautiful buildings:churches and scenery. I would definitely recommend the self guide because you take it at your own pace and can take a break whenever you like and just pick up again when you are ready.
The explanations were good if short but kept cutting out. We probably visited places in Perugia that we otherwise wouldn’t have. The last place inside the fortress was fascinating
This tour has a good balance of information, without overloading the listener. A hood feature is that you can either listen to the episodes, or read them. Some extra useful informtion is added at the end. We found it relaxed and easy to follow.
Good knowledge about history but we have used better audio guides. Was ok but not the best narration
This is the best value you will find! Matteo has plotted out a terrific itinerary if you want to see the highlights of Perugia in a half day. The technology worked fine, thanks in part to free public WiFi everywhere. We recommend it highly!
We arrived in Perugia after spending time in much smaller towns in the Umbria region. Since Perugia felt so much bigger, we felt a little lost! We knew there was much to see, but we couldn't find the (well hidden) tourist information office to get more information. We finally discovered an app called Perugia in App that I downloaded. I have to say, it was so poorly done that it was useless. So I went onto Trip Advisor to see if I could find a walking tour and I discovered this self-guided version created by Matteo. It was great! Not only did we see everything we wanted to see, but it was super easy to use, very informative and fun! I would highly recommend it!
Great tour with interesting local insights. The maps linked were handy to get to the next place on the itinerary. Good value for money.
This walking tour of Perugia is a great economical way to learn about and see the historical sights and churches of the city at your own pace. All the important areas to visit are included along with the history and directions to the next listing. It also includes recommendations for eating and a discussion of the famous chocolate baci. I would definitely recommend this audio tour of Perugia.
The audio guide was a very helpful and inexpensive way to see the major sites of central Perugia. We read guide more than listened but both convenient. More actual street directions would have been nice as I resorted to Google Maps for precise directions but map with guide pointed us in the general direction just fine. All in all well worth it and it allowed sight seeing at your own pace.
A good to the point city tour for all who don't have much time in Perugia. Exactly what I needed in my short visit. I do recommend.
My husband and I opted for the self guided audio tour because we want to go at our own pace and stop along the way if we wanted to. We downloaded it at our Airbnb and began the tour at the suggested starting point. It was very good and informative, and the pictures were helpful to make sure we were looking at the right landmarks. It was helpful to have their prices and times of opening of the museums. The only challenge with the self guided tour was getting from one place to another. We had to leave the app and put in the next destination in our Google maps. And one of the churches - that was suggested was a mile walk- The Basicala of San Lorenzo was closed when we got there - and we went on a Sunday ! But neither the app nor the web site listed hours and it was our chance we took. Otherwise - it was good - just try and have all the landmarks in your maps before you begin as it will save you time from each destination!
We loved this self tour of Perugia. The tech worked perfectly (reading and listening), covered all the main wires with a good level of detail, a map was provided and links to googlemap that were super helpful, and we enjoyed the extra info and recommendations on regional foods. Beats a real guide which is certainly more expensive and not usually very interactive. This allowed us to go at our own pace, take breaks and slips bits we didn't fancy. Highly recommend :)
The instructions for activating the guide are not very clear, especially if you purchase multiple guides and the email only goes to one person. To get started, in the end I had to call the operator (the only positive note... they answer the phone), copy a link from the email, copy a very long password, and all this in the middle of the square in the cold. Unbelievable. Then the guide accompanies you to places and describes them in part, but to enter you have to pay and at that point it is better to take the guide of the place you are visiting (much more complete).
Experience absolutely not to be repeated. The way to start the tour if you buy two tickets is unclear. To get the application to start, I had to copy and paste the link into the browser and type the password (very inconvenient if you are in the cold in a square and above all absurd given the efficiency of other operators). The guide's explanations were quite in-depth, but in many cases the things to see were paid and therefore if you go to visit them you get the dedicated guide. The only positive note is that they answer the phone in case of difficulty starting the guided tour and I must say that the operator who answered and guided me through the steps was patient and it was not a given.
Sometimes the audio wouldn't load, so we couldn't listen to the guide. Otherwise everything was good, very interesting and practical to manage.
Well organized and very accessible. You have to count on about 7 km of walking. Only downside, we were given an appointment at No. 81 Arco Etrusco even though this location has been closed for many years. I don’t know why this appointment. We manage without it.
I didn't particularly like it, because I expected the audio guide to lead me to the different places, but that wasn't the case; I had to look for them myself and then the different places were explained to me. For this reason, I am only giving it 3 stars
You have to be online to be able to use the guide. Since I am not online all the time, I could not use the guide at all. The help was also not accessible that way. Telephone contact is also not possible.
The plus? Observing places and monuments while listening to explanations, without having to read them!
Very well prepared, can be used as preparation for the visit, during the stay and afterwards.
A convenient and cheap way to visit Perugia
We did not know this service but were pleasantly surprised. Very easy to use. Google maps links take you directly to the point of interest where it is explained briefly but comprehensively. Highly recommended
Very well structured tour, both in clarity for use and for visiting the city. The stages are easy to identify and reach, very valid link to Google maps for the route. the explanation is fast but exhaustive, Very valid also the support of the photos within the explanation so you can not go wrong and misunderstand
100% recommended, this guide is great to do at the pace and time you want. I made a stop in between to go to eat at one of the places he recommends, then I continued to visit the village at my own pace and it was spectacular.
100% recommended, a very good guide through Perugia to be able to do at the pace you want. I really liked being able to stop it when I needed it and even in the middle of the guide I stopped to eat at one of the stalls he recommends and then I finished visiting the village.
